Yes, it bothers Paula and I, too.  We always stand at our seats and sing the

No cut & pastes from me, so this will be short & sweet. The refs blew the call.
The pass was toward the line of scrimmage, therefore a forward pass. The
position of the player doesn’t matter. Even after that being said, I fail to
understand why there was no cornerback outside watching for a fake. LSU
routinely runs a fake FG. And – the play of the safeties and corners on deep
routes was not good at all. Someone should have stuffed the receiver at the
LOS.
Last – a member of our Gator Club counted the roster and there are well over 50

[gatortalk] Addazio question

2010-10-11 Thread Jerry Belloit
I know of no one who thought that our offensive line would not be the
strength of this team this year. I think few would argue that they have
been a disappointment so far this year. Based upon previous years, I would
rank Addazio as one of the best offensive line coaches in the nation.I
think the Gator's offensive line talent is among the most talented in the
nation. Given that most of our offensive line has had some quality
experience going into this season, I have to ask the question, why are they
not performing as well as in the past? What has changed this year? The
only thing I can think of is that Addazio has the added responsibility as
assistant head coach. Could it be that those duties have been taking too
much time away from his offensive line coaching? Even workaholics have to
sleep sometimes. Could it be that our offensive line is not getting
"coached up" enough?

2010-10-11 Thread Randy Platt
LSU was out of timeouts when Toliver caught a 28 yd slant to move from the
UF 31 to the UF 4. Just saying the timeout for the review was irrelevant,
the clock had stopped for the first down, without the review, LSU would be
lined up and spikes the ball, which would have taken less than 6 seconds and
therefore there would have still been time to get the td play off. Again,
there are too many plays that could have, would have, should have to dwell
on. Like someone else said, I have come to the realization we are currently
an above average SEC team, time to sit back and enjoy the ride, see where we
go from here. We still have opportunities and I will still be in SEC 318
Row 1 Seat 2 on Saturdays. GO GATORS!

It's pretty crappy about the booing. Gator fans don't boo. Or, shouldn't.
That's
what you expect from semis or worse, Philadelphia fans.

I shudder to think what the recruits' impression was.
And, it was so fickle. Read Pat Dooley's account of that last scoring drive. It
was something like, boo boo cheer cheer boo boo boo, etc.

We had a lot of good recruits there too. That's not helping get them signed.
It's not our birthright to win the NC every year. I'm reminded why Spurrier
left. Zeb, do you think he'd even consider coming back to UF? Anyone think

I find this quote interesting, usually Meyer says that all playcalling is a
discussion and he has final say.  This time he says I'm involved...

Meyer said he heard the fans booing the play calling at Saturday night's loss
to
LSU.
“I think (Steve Addazio) has a tough job,” Meyer said. “Obviously he can handle
it. I'm very involved in the offense as well. ... An offense minus big plays is
tough in this day and age. How do you create big plays? You get guys loose and
hit ‘em when they're open.”

Plenty of work to do, Meyer says

By Jeff Barlis

Floridacoach Urban Meyer knows his team is lacking in some areas, but work at
practice is the key to turning around a struggling team, he said.
“We win championships as a team, and we fight through adversity as a team,”
Meyer said Monday. “I just want to make sure we avoid the poison that affects
college football teams.”
Meyer addressed several points at his weekly meeting with the news media Monday
at UF:
“I don't feel like we played great defense.
“Red-zone efficiency is not where we want it. Lack of explosive plays ... we're
void of those right now. And taking care of the football. Those are the core
values of how to win a game.
“We're not having those home-run shots. (Jeff) Demps being banged up, we see a
guy like (Andre) Debose can get some things done.
Meyer was not happy with the production of his offensive line.
“I don't think we played great,” he said. “Very inconsistent. It seems the
moment you get one group back, then the skill positions get banged up. We're
anxious to get everyone back.
“LSU became a blitz-a-thon. There are ways to relieve pressure ... but we
didn't
do those things very well.”
On the injury front, Meyer said Demps is feeling a lot better, but wasn't ready
for the LSU game. Offensive lineman Jon Halapio is doubtful after surgery on
his
fractured finger Sunday. QB John Brantley has a sore shoulder to go along with
sore ribs and a sprained thumb. Safety Matt Elam and wide receiver Deonte
Thompson have concussions and are day-to-day.

Here is where you and I differ. UF is just like everyone else. As much as
I want it to be different, it is not. We have those who think we should be
undefeated and playing for NC every year. We have those who are rude to
opposing fans. We have those that boo at games. We have players that break
the law. We are just like everybody else, UF is not, or should not be
considered, elitist when it comes to our sports programs. For the record, I
don't boo, but at the same time, I can't think of a more profound way to
communicate to the program, specifically Foley and Meyer, the
dissatisfaction with the product on display. I pay close to $3,000.00
annually for my tickets. I would sure like about 10 minutes of Meyers ear
or an explanation of what we are trying to accomplish, since neither of
those is forth coming, vocal demonstration seems to be the only alternative.

The only problem I see is that even if time runs out there would still be
one untimed play, b/c of the penalty, and eventually LSU would be so close
to the goal line that they would just run it in. I don't think they kick a
field goal for a tie, they were playing to win. If we stop Toliver on the

I find this quote interesting, usually Meyer says that all playcalling is a
discussion and he has final say. This time he says I'm involved...

Meyer said he heard the fans booing the play calling at Saturday night's
loss to LSU.

"I think (Steve Addazio) has a tough job," Meyer said. "Obviously he can
handle it. I'm very involved in the offense as well. ... An offense minus
big plays is tough in this day and age. How do you create big plays? You get
guys loose and hit 'em when they're open."

Florida coach Urban Meyer knows his team is lacking in some areas, but work
at practice is the key to turning around a struggling team, he said.

"We win championships as a team, and we fight through adversity as a team,"
Meyer said Monday. "I just want to make sure we avoid the poison that
affects college football teams."

Meyer addressed several points at his weekly meeting with the news media
Monday at UF:

"I don't feel like we played great defense.

"Red-zone efficiency is not where we want it. Lack of explosive plays ...
we're void of those right now. And taking care of the football. Those are
the core values of how to win a game.

"We're not having those home-run shots. (Jeff) Demps being banged up, we see
a guy like (Andre) Debose can get some things done.

Meyer was not happy with the production of his offensive line.

"I don't think we played great," he said. "Very inconsistent. It seems the
moment you get one group back, then the skill positions get banged up. We're
anxious to get everyone back.

"LSU became a blitz-a-thon. There are ways to relieve pressure ... but we
didn't do those things very well."

On the injury front, Meyer said Demps is feeling a lot better, but wasn't
ready for the LSU game. Offensive lineman Jon Halapio is doubtful after
surgery on his fractured finger Sunday. QB John Brantley has a sore shoulder
to go along with sore ribs and a sprained thumb. Safety Matt Elam and wide
receiver Deonte Thompson have concussions and are day-to-day.

Exactly, and of course I wasn't trying to pick on you.
I guess there's really nothing I can do about the boos either. It just pisses
me off. That makes UF just like everyone else.

2010-10-11 Thread Randy Platt
You missed one play. The first down play after the fake field goal gave LSU
1st and 10 at the UF 31 yard line give or take. On the first play after the
FG review, LSU hit Toliver on a 28 yard slant that gave them first and goal
at the UF 3. LSU immediately spiked the ball, rare for them, and completed
the fade on 3rd down. But I get you point.

Subject: [gatortalk] What bugs me

Is not the forward/backwards pass issue.

I am somewhat bothered that we didn't see the play coming. We did in
our living room. The distance was longer than the kicker had ever
completed in his career, and - even if successful - would merely have
given LSU overtime on the road against a loud raucous crowd. It
seemed obvious that Mile would try to win the game in regulation.

What bothers me is that, when the first down as picked up, LSU
players were running to the line to spike the ball on 1st down to
stop the clock. I think that LSU was out of time outs at that point,
having used its last to set up the fake previously.

Had normal football been played, 6 or so seconds would have run off
the clock and LSU would have spiked the ball on first down; leaving
it three tries (and not a lot of time) at the end zone. There is also
the outside change of a penalty on the offense for not being set,
improper alignment, too many players on the field, as often happens
when one tries to run to the line of scrimmage to spike the ball and
stop the clock.

Instead, the official review acted as a "free" LSU timeout, giving it
a chance to freely substitute and be set when the clock started. More
importantly, LSU no longer had to waste first down on the spike -
giving it 4 shots at the end zone instead of 3.

LSU scored on its fourth try; a try it would not have had but for the
official review.

I have made comments about Adazzio's lack of confidence in his o-line inside
the 10 and on short yardage situations. We keep running gimmicks and wildcat
in those situations. Its as if he doesn't even believe they can line up and
play hardnosed football.

So yeah, I was shocked. And it worked! Maybe we should use our qb in the red

Rivals in opposing SEC towns might not think so, but they should count their

Thanks. We managed to squeak it out. I think we had as many holes in
our feet as y'all did... Thirteen penalties for 108 yards... Fumbled
pitches... Receivers not breaking off routes when they should, leading
to an INT... Sheez... One penalty against Mallett was just stupid. He
was sacked and the defender just stayed on him, probably jawin' at
him. Mallett tried to shuck him off with his elbow and got called for
a personal foul. Sheez, even when we have SEC officials and play a Big
12 team we get shafted... Still, we had over 300 yards passing and
over 100 yards rushing... Aggies really only had 10 points
offensively, as one TD was setup by an INT return to our 2 yard line.

We gotta play much better on offense. Sometimes I think we try TOO
hard to run the ball. If we're efficient enough throwing it, and can
get into a rhythm, we should stick with it...

Sucks about the LSU game, y'all... Man, I just knew y'all would
win... :(

I completely agree on our not seeing the fake. When they called that
timeout, I recall wondering why they would do that... then the light came on
and I started yelling at the monitor, "Watch the fake!". It is completely
unimaginable that our coaches wouldn't see the same thing. Heck, I'm not an
expert and it seemed obvious to me. I mean, this particular fake they do is
like our jump pass. They pull it out two or three times a year in just this
type of situation, and the timeout was a dead give away.

On the free timeout while under review, that was indeed unfortunate, but I
think the replay rules solve more problems than they cause. In this case, it
was just our bad luck that it worked against us that way. I guess I'd be
more incensed about that, and the bad fake punt call, if I felt that we had
outplayed them and that we really deserved the game. In my mind this loss is
all on the coaches.

I'm also a bit more relaxed than in earlier games because now I can finally
just accept that we're not a very good team this year. They're still my team
and they still have my full support, but I can finally stop worrying about
polls and national championships and just take it one game at a time. It'll
be interesting to see if we can beat Mullen.

followed by the usual logjam at 7-5.

Let's hear it for Chris Weathers, who finished all alone in first place
Saturday at 9-3. Bill Perpich, Ed Chase, and T.J. Hammond were second
at 8-4, followed by the usual logjam at 7-5.

For the year, Kevin Fraze has now pulled into a tie for first with Jerry
Belloit, at 44-28. Second place is another tie among Art Wroble, Brian
Hicks, Ed Kling, Ryan Marcus, and Teebo Fischer, all at 43-29.

We'll play again this week. Maybe it'll be a better week, if y'all know
what we mean. And you probably do.

To be fair, they did ge a first down at the 3 and scored on 3rd down with 6
seconds left. If they had missed that play, they still had one more down to
go.

Is not the forward/backwards pass issue.

I am somewhat bothered that we didn't see the play coming. We did in our
living room. The distance was longer than the kicker had ever completed in
his career, and - even if successful - would merely have given LSU overtime
on the road against a loud raucous crowd. It seemed obvious that Mile would
try to win the game in regulation.

What bothers me is that, when the first down as picked up, LSU players were
running to the line to spike the ball on 1st down to stop the clock. I think
that LSU was out of time outs at that point, having used its last to set up
the fake previously.

Had normal football been played, 6 or so seconds would have run off the
clock and LSU would have spiked the ball on first down; leaving it three
tries (and not a lot of time) at the end zone. There is also the outside
change of a penalty on the offense for not being set, improper alignment,
too many players on the field, as often happens when one tries to run to the
line of scrimmage to spike the ball and stop the clock.

Instead, the official review acted as a "free" LSU timeout, giving it a
chance to freely substitute and be set when the clock started. More
importantly, LSU no longer had to waste first down on the spike - giving it
4 shots at the end zone instead of 3.

LSU scored on its fourth try; a try it would not have had but for the
official review.

Halapio started the first two games of the year and Saturday’s

Here are two brutal examples of the Gators hurting themselves with
penalties:

– Third quarter, first possession. Florida unleashes its longest
drive to that point, moving from its own 22-yard line to LSU’s 1.
On second-and-goal from the 1, Mike Pouncey gets a 10-yard penalty
for holding. The Gators followed that by breaking the huddle with
at least 12 players on the field. Suddenly, second-and-goal at the
1 became second-and-goal at the 16. That drive ended with Chas
Henry missing a field goal.

How tough is it, on 2nd and goal from the 1, to run a QB sneak three
times in a row?

The shotgun to the wildcat is insane in that situation.

I watched USC beat Alabama earlier in the day. Shockingly, A QB under
center can gain a yard almost automatically.

Something tells me we should keep an eye on the Gamecock's coach; he

I don't disagree that we lost the game and could have played better.  I do
disagree that after we made a miraculous comeback, the game is decided on a bad
call.  You have to keep all of this in perspective, we could have made more
plays, they could have and the officials could have.  End result, we lost.

And while yes we are 1 game away from wait till next year, we are also on track
to win the SECE and have a shot at an SECC and BCS bowl.

Re: [gatortalk] Debose sighting!

2010-10-11 Thread wildeart...@gmail.com
There you go... that's just what Oliver was suggesting. I think I'd be a little
more definitive on the cause of the 'detour'. It'll be more convincing that
way. The indignation is a great touch, though. What do you think, Oliver? Is
that better? :-)

[gatortalk] Pick 'em results

2010-10-11 Thread John Bowers
Let's hear it for Chris Weathers, who finished all alone in first place
Saturday at 9-3. Bill Perpich, Ed Chase, and T.J. Hammond were second at
8-4, followed by the usual logjam at 7-5.

Um, (please!) Go Gators.

As usual, quick to come to Randoo's rescue:

Here are the coordinates of where Steve parks his car: N 29 degrees 38.615';
W 082 degrees 21.755'. The next time you want to party with Steve and
friends just punch that in and push 'go'.

When you get to this spot, look to the south (don't forget the compass
feature on the GPS). That wet spot is Lake Alice. And, get off of Steve's
car.
