I agree that their defense is good. Statistically they are #7 in the country, but I believe that if you look at the national rankings of the offenses they've faced, you'll see that the lofty ranking may be a bit of fool's gold. The highest ranked offenses they've faced are in the 50s and they've had some trouble with them. We're coming into this game ranked #18 on offense, and on a roll. Sure - it's a rivalry game and in those anything can happen, but if we just settle down and play our game, don't give them short fields or der\fensive scores, they shouldn't be able to stay on the field with us. --- On Tue, 11/25/08, NZ Gator [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: NZ Gator [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] [SUN]: Notebook: Meyer veteran of UF-Florida State rivalry (Aschoff) To: Gatortalk@googlegroups.com Date: Tuesday, November 25, 2008, 10:34 PM FSU isn't a mediocre defense; it is the #7 defense in the country. They don't match up well against us in any phase of the game. Even with the injuries on the DL, we will be going against a weak SOW OL.Will they be jacked? Absolutely. Will they win? No way. This Gator team is too mentally tough to have a let down with the prize in sight. And if any of the WRs involved in the fight are suspended, it will be over early. Some people are saying this sets up like 1997 (Go Quez!), but I don't see it. Yes the SOW was a top tier team that year, but the Gators were nowhere near as bad as SOW is this year. Some people are saying the SOW is playing their best ball of the year - they are 2-2 in their last 4 games. His team is so amped for Saturday’s game in Tallahassee that Meyer admitted after The Citadel game that some of the veterans on his team had already turned their focus to the Seminoles by halftime. I think that FSU is a lil better than they were last year, the main reason being Christian Ponder who MAY provide a bit of a challenge initially. FSU's D is (supposedly) better. We will see. I think we win and probably cover... but Im not so sure (yet) that we will roll. Although, ideally the more we RUTS.. .the better our chances of making the NC are. Well it’s all about our team. FSU can’t begin to keep up with us if we’re on our game, so the only risk is that we overlook them and come in there playing flat. It’s always possible, but I have a sense that these guys really took the loss to Ole Miss to heart and that they understand the need to be mentally prepared for every game. If they were going to go flat, I think this last Saturday is when they would have done it. I am nervous too, partly because of the loss of Marsh in a very critical position, but mostly just because I know the ‘holes’ will be looking at us the way we looked at Georgia going into that game. They’ll want to win this so badly they’ll have been dreaming about it all week. For a mediocre team, knocking your biggest rival out of the MNC race would be the highlight of your year. They’ll play a very tough game and won’t give up ground willingly. But, in the end, I think our guys will prepare well, and will be up for the game. If they do, we’ll be fine and yet another leading defense will have its stats shot all to heck.
