i was forgetting: for a full multimedia experience install mplayer with win32codecs enabled as written on the gentoo-wiki howtos/tips and mplayer-plugin for the browser. at that point you'll be able to view also the wmv and asf embeded video on the internet. 2007/8/10, A. Re: [gentoo-amd64] Java Firefox plugins
you have to install nspluginwrapper, flash32 plugin, follow this wiki: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AMD64#nspluginwrapper relatively from the nspluginwrapper part and for java just install the emul-linux-java libraries and java1.6 plugin and you'll have a functioning amd64 firefox with 32bit flash plugin and 32 bit java (yep, the java plugin is only for 32bit, for what i know). there is the jaa amd64 but not the plugin for firefox. still, you cannot use shockwave, that isn't supported for linux. 2007/8/10, A. Re: [gentoo-amd64] Java Firefox plugins
Hi, Beso wrote: 2007/7/26, [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I think that emul-linux-x86-java doesn't work with 64-bit firefox browser. It just works with mozilla-firefox-bin, which is 32-bit. that's incorrect the emul-linux libraries are 32 bit libraries that are to be used with firefox amd64 not firefox-bin for the conversion of 32 bit plugins to 64bit plugins or better explained, they're a layer for executing 32bit plugins on 64bit firefox compiled that's why they're a dependencies for the nspluginwrapper library anyway, just use the howto flash9 and java with firefox on amd 64 from http://gentoo-wiki.com/ You're both not correct. emul-linux-x86-java is, like stated at the description of the package the "32bit version Sun's J2SE Development Kit". So, firefox, which is compiled for 64bit can't use the plugin directly, but mozilla-firefox-bin, which is also 32bit can use that plugin. The reason is, that no application compiled for 64bit can be linked with something complied for 32bit. Some people wanted however have 64bit firefox/konqueror/... and also use 32bit plugin's like flash. (blackdown-jdk for 64bit has a nsplugin, which don't work with current firefox versions anymore. So in the past, that wasn't a problem, 64bit firefox and java.) So they wrote nspluginwrapper, which allow to use any 32bit nsplugin. This means, with nspluginwrapper you can use emul-linux-x86-java's nsplugin in 64bit firefox. As a side note, the emul-packages bring some precompiled 32bit libs, which are often present on any linux system. Those are needed for packages, like opera, skype, wine, ... which are only available for 32bit. Search the list for more detailed answers about, why emul packages exists, this was often discussed in the past. Greetings, Jean-Marc Hengen -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
