Check again your configuration of the monitor. If it is correct then you
can always give the details for the various screen resolutions using the
Modeline option in XF86Config. Another thing you can try is to lower a
bit the numbers for the maximun Vertical Refresh and/or the Horizontal
Sync in XF86Config. Hope that helps! :-)

Well, I'd presume windowed mode would still work: 'smac --windowed'.
At least until you find out what the problem with the config file is.

Does anyone have Alpha Centauri running under xfree 4.3? For me it works only
under 4.2. With 4.3 emerged, I get a "over frequency" message from my monitor
when smac is launched, but the exact same config file works fine with xfree
4.2.x.

thx for the tip! but i get an error during install (with your
installer). after mounting my cd drive, it wants my first NWN cd - i
know it is in my drive, and if i mount it manually, i can read its
contents w/o a problem...

is this a known issue? some help?

The installer at
http://icculus.org/~ravage/nwn/ worked for me just fine. I did have to mess
with the nwn script a bit to get things to run correctly, and launch it with
artsdsp. Other than that, it works very well (so far).

Hi Matthias,

check the forums (both Gentoo and Bioware). There is an installation
tool written by some guy and you can find links in both forums. Don't
forget to get the special file so that it installs the German version.
I haven't tried it (had the game installed on Windows before) and I am
not sure how it handles the upgrade that is necessary. But there are
reports that it works,

Thease are all linux native. I suggest looking at

see all there is. There are many more than I've tried. This list is
simply the ones I've tried with high rankings.(typically 4-5 stars) I'm

Adonthell is available in gentoo but they don't warn you that you need

Unreal Tournament
Quake

Simcity 3000
