[gentoo-user] problem with asus a6tc and nvidia sound chipset

2007-06-18 Thread bayrouni

Hello all,

I have an integrated sound chip using snd-hda-intel driver.
The chipset is MCP51 High Definition Audio

I used this page to set my soundcard:
http://kompi.homelinux.org/home/patrick/asus_a6tc-howto/#sound

But still I have not the correct sound devices.

I am under gentoo.

The sound is working fine, but the pc speaker and programs using oss
does'nt work.
modprobe snd-hda-intel model=asus-laptop position_fix=1 or
position_fix=2 does not resolve the problem when launching alsamixer for
example.

Thanks

All right.
dnsdomainname and domainname -d --->  myhost.my.domain

Yes, after adding a.b.c.d myhost.my.domain myhost in /etc/hosts,
hostname --> myhost
and hostname -f -->  myhost.my.domain
:)

but domainname --> (none)

Anyway, thanks for you and all others

I added this line in /etc/conf.d/net:
dns_domain_lo="MY_DOMAIN"

I restarted the net.lo but still the same result:
# domainname
(none)

# hostname and hostname -f
MY_HOST

My DNS server is running but it works only as dns cache server.

So, do I need to configure it as DNS for this machine and the others in
LAN to have hostname and domainname commands working correctly?

Thanks

[gentoo-user] hostname and domainname

2007-02-19 Thread Bayrouni
Hello all,

cat /etc/conf.d.hostname
# /etc/conf.d/hostname

# Set to the hostname of this machine
HOSTNAME="MYHOST"

and cat /etc/conf.d/domainname
DNSDOMAIN="MYDOMAIN"

The hostname service is added to the /etc/init.d/ with rc-update,

but the commande hostname give:
#hostname
MYHOST

and
# hostname -f
MYHOST

I tried to add the domainname service:
sudo rc-update add domainname default

Use cdparanoia to rip from CD audio to wav
and oggenc to encode from wav to ogg.

Both cdparanoia and oggenc are easy to use after reading their man pages.

You can also create a script to do the work for you.

This is only for command line lovers .

What do you like Gentoo for then?

Ease of administration? That's my main reason, it's always been pretty

I do not think that binaries are hosted anywhere, but I know that some

In my case it's building newer packages for older hardware using a newer

At the first step, I shall install Gentoo using GRP.
Later with newer machine I shall install gentoo using the stage1.( this
the main reason why using gentoo:) . All is configurable .

posting the complete ouput, try searching bugzilla for
mjpegtools-1.6.2-r3, you'll find the solution to your problem, along
with the status of this already known bug.

Christoph
There is a bug while compiling media-video/mjpegtools.
It is referenced in bugzilla.gentoo.org as NEW.
k3b depends on mjpegtools so k3b emerge fails.

Hello,
I try to run xbindkeys on startup
I put it in /etc/conf.d/local.start
I have a .xbindkeysrc in both homes (me and root)
When I launch xbindkeys manually, it starts normally and I can use the
resource file (.xbindkeysrc).

But I have this message at each reboot:
Error: xbindkeys not found or reading not allowed
please, create one with xbindkeys --default vers //.xbindkeysrc.

It's anyone's guess whether that'll compile (dependencies etc.) though;

But this prog have not update until now.
I shall try the old version because I haven't any choice.

consistent config.

Thank you very much.
I configured the kernel like this:
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SIS5513=y is now enabled
CONFIG_IDEDMA_ONLYDISK=n is now disabled
I am now recompiling my kernel.
I shall send the result after rebooting my system on the new kernl .
Thanks :)

I had compiled a new kern that support dma, restartd my gentoo, and now
the dma is on.

CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI=y
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_FORCED is not set

CONFIG_IDEDMA_ONLYDISK=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA=y

CONFIG_IDEDMA_AUTO=y

when running hdparm /devhda , the dma is off.
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA=y
CONFIG_IDEDMA_AUTO=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI=y
CONFIG_IDEDMA_PCI_AUTO=y
idem for hdb

Hi there!
I think it'd be CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP, yes. But if you set it to "y",
it's compiled into kernel and isn't a module.
If you want it to be a module, set it to "m".
In menuconfig, it's Device Drivers -> Block Devices -> Loopback device support.
At least in 6.11.x.

OK.
