[gentoo-user] best CAD app for industrial machining/molding?

2021-04-18 Thread caveman رجل الكهف 穴居人
hi.

i want to design complex shapes, and then
send them to some manufacturers. so my
drawings need to be very accurate, and
compatible with the manufacturers.

plus, it would be nice to have the ability
of being able to test how structurally
strong my design is. e.g. how well it
supports loads, and where are the pressured
points, etc.

a piece of extra information in case it helps:
my 1st project has to do with car parts.

thoughts on what to use? should i use
autocad? else? how should i think? any
tips?

notes:

- i'm on linux.
- i'm not a very RMS-moral person.

i'm not against that. in fact, this goes in the
list of the productive things. remember, i said
"not limited to"? i literally stated that my list
of productive things is not exhaustive.

spending time with family is productive, since
it's an opportunity to inspect the situation of
family members to help them become even better
people. this happens implicitly even though
dad/mom doesn't say "hey kids time for annual
performance inspection!".

it's part of us which we inherited from evolution
that actually helps maximise our survival. there
is a reason why we've evolved to like it.

but, worthy to note, not everything we like is
good. e.g. there are bugs in evolution. e.g.
some people enjoy drugs up to a point they become
addicts. this is not inline with survival
maximisation, so we can say this is a
vulnerability in evolution that drug dealers try
to exploit.

hi. i just want to help a bit by sharing a
thought that i think is useful to the civilisation
of life forms in general:

- new year celebrations are wasteful in
several ways (e.g. waste on needless
  purchases [aka gifts], useless fireworks,
useless trees with socks on them, etc).

- the vacation is nice to allow potential good
use of it. but even this is usually abused
by most people as they end up just wasting
it alongside their money for purely doing
silly things such as purposeless tourism.

- i hope that, one day, humanity won't do such
useless things, and --instead-- we re-direct
  the otherwise-wasted resources into actually
useful things such as (not limited to):

  * contributions to scientific
research.

  * foss projects.

  * ...

  * purchase of scientific books/tools for
smart kids that love science, but live in
situations where their parents are unable
to afford as such to them.

i personally think this last point to be
the best investment in the long-run. most
likely today we lack potentially great
scientists because they simply got wasted
due to lack of funding during their
childhood. likewise today's science
potentially lags centuries behind what it
would've been if we had taken this point
more seriously centuries ago.

it's never too early to start acting better.

sometimes i disable javascript only to solve the
easier captcha, then once i solve it, i get the
malfunctioning site, but at least the cookies get
installed! then i enable it again and refresh the
site.

sometimes this doesn't work, as goog sometimes
calls me "malicious activity" (how dare me disable
js for a few seconds). it works sometimes though.

i found that if we disable javascript in your
browser, then goog will show us a more friendly
captcha that is much easier to solve.

also as a side note, before you doubt your vision,
i must say that these captchas themselves contain
an intrinsic error.

e.g. i solve them correctly, and know others that
solve them correctly, but they keep declaring that
we are not humans! imagine a machine telling me
that i'm not a human? we are already being
oppressed by the robots!

i've actually learned to intentionally do some
mistakes, to seem more human. for example, i try
to avoid selecting small edges of requested
objects because i guess most people who click on
the captchas are normal people that are still
blessed with natural stupidity (something we nerds
eventually lost as we evolved with the PC).
