This changes .la files, which means that their checksums no longer match the installed versions so portage doesn't remove them. It arises here because fix_libtool_files.sh modifies the .la files. O_O I'll be too old then though. I'm working on a fresh install on another hard drive now. That will clear out some cruft. I copied my make.conf file and one other config file and that is it.
