Re: [Geoserver-users] How feasible is it to run GeoServer in 512mb ram on linux?

2013-05-08 Thread Rahkonen Jukka
Hi,

For me 612 MB of memory on Ubuntu was not enough for Geoserver and PostGIS.

Hi,

I hadn't run GeoServer on any Linux box with less than 1 GByte.
It may run with less but you're going to hit a lot of Out of Memory issues IMHO
Having PostGIS on the same machine will lower the memory available gor
GeoServer. I don't think on such a limited hardware you're going to use huge
amount of data, I would stick to shspefiles.

Cheers,

Stefano

The server would just be handling wfs and wms and only point data stored in a

on setting up and running some JMeter tests to see how well it stands up, I
just wanted to know if this is completely impractical. The pricing really jumps
up quick with when you start adding ram.
Also would it lower or raise ram requirements if I used a SHP file instead of
PostGIS?

Hmm... it also depends on how much functionality you need.
For example, you could save some memory by stripping off the modules you
are not using, keeping in mind that WMS and WFS cannot
really be removed, you could get rid of gwc (delete all *gwc* jars), WCS
(all *wcs* jars), restconfig (*rest* jars), and you'd also do a good
service to your
memory needs by stripping away all user interface (all *web* jars),
provided you can edit the data dir with another GeoServer and
upload it to your server when it changes.

And then probably install control-flow so that the server does not take up
on too many WMS requests at a single time.

With that setup you _might_ be able to run it on 512MB.

Cheers

No, I think this is the wrong log file.

The geoserver log file is named "geoserver.log" normally.

Re: [Geoserver-users] Tiled or singletile?

2013-05-08 Thread Victor Eriksen
Thank you both Tom and Jonathan for your replies!

So far I have used integrated WMS tile caches in general. I had overlooked
the HTTP Response Headers setting, will definetely try that, That would
also be useful for basemaps created as a layer group. As I understand that
setting is not available for the moment.

Either way it seems like a difficult decision. If I go for tiled it will be
expensive during initial load and shifting between zoom levels. But I will
benefit when panning and revisiting the same areas (using client side
cache).

I've solved it!

To allow access only for the clients connecting from localhost add the
following lines to webapps/geoserver/WEB-INF/web.xml (and restart tomcat7)

Remote Address Filter
org.apache.catalina.filters.RemoteAddrFilter

  allow
  127\.\d+\.\d+\.\d+|::1|0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1

I see a lot of errors like

Caused by: org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: Connection refused. Check
that the hostname and port are correct and that the postmaster is accepting
TCP/IP connections.

Did you configure your postgres to allow connections from any user and any
host ?

In your connect parameters, I see

Is the password "postgre" correct or should it be "postgres" ?.

Please go to Settings->Global on the left main menu.

Change the logging profile to

GEOTOOLS_DEVELOPER_LOGGING.properties

Press submit and restart geoserver.

Reproduce the error and send me the log file (you should zip the log file
before attaching).

There is a Null Pointer Exception during the calculation of the extent of
your image.

I think this happens because your SpatialTable has no rows at all or the
"geom" Attributes in the table are null.

Yes christian

There is no row inserted in my spatial table.
but I didn't get why this is happening. When I run java utility to import
the image data through command prompt, it runs properly and it shows the no.

But when I open the spatial table from the pg_admin, it shows the table
empty.

please guide me regarding this. How could I resolve this ?

Thanks

Re: [Geoserver-users] How feasible is it to run GeoServer in 512mb ram on linux?

2013-05-08 Thread Walter Deane
Thanks for the advice. I was really hoping there was a super secret way to
configure so that it would run in 512k that only a few people knew about.
LOL. I am going to have to bite the bullet and charge a little for the app.
Hopefully cost don't go to high and I lose my shirt.

[Geoserver-users] Fwd: How feasible is it to run GeoServer in 512mb ram on linux?

2013-05-08 Thread Walter Deane
Thanks for the advice. I am going to assume I really should be planning on
1gb of ram and trying to figure out how I am going to pay for it. I would
like the app to be free but it looks like I am going to have to charge
which means it probably won't be used as much as I would like. Bummer.

I am a volunteer firefighter so I had big hopes for this app to be adopted
by other firefighters.

Thanks again, for the advice,
Walter Deane

[Geoserver-users] GEOS-4930 --OpenLayers Map Preview always points to localhost

2013-05-08 Thread cmaul
Hello list,

updating our geoserver instance from 2.1.3 to 2.3 I found that the preview
stopped working. Looking at the reasons I found the issue GEOS-4930, a bug
fix. However, I don't think it is actually a problem that has been fixed,
but rather created. The bug that was fixed was that Openlayers (in the
preview) went back to the localhost and not to the proxy, if a proxy is
defined. It occurred in 2.1.2 and fixed in 2.1.4. In all other instances in
2.12 and 2.13 it went back to the proxy.

Our Geoserver sits behind a proxy (a catalogue). The consequence of the fix
is that the display on the preview does not work, because after the initial
request the Openlayers requests goes to the proxy and not to the server. The
proxy obviously doesn't have a clue about the Openlayers controls etc. So,
it stalls after opening a window and drawing a frame.

The preview in Geoserver is a preview for the administrator, i.e. me, nobody
else is supposed to use it. I do not use for production purposes but to
check new layers or sld's or switches between databases, new stores etc. So,
I need to remove the "proxy base url", check and put it in again.

Is that the desired behaviour and if it is: Is it sensible?

Cheers

Christian
