[Geoserver-users] Help on tutorial from Geoserver pages

2013-10-08 Thread Rodrigo Nascimento Hernandez
Hello,

Using a fresh Geoserver 2.4.0 installation:

Im trying to test the 'J2EE Authentication' following the page
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/security/tutorials/j2ee/index.html
but im stuck in the step n. 7
At this point the page informs 'Select “Web UI” from the Request type
drop down.' The fact is I cant find the drop down menu 'request type' on
the main page 'Authentication', under the 'Filter Chains' section, as
instructed by that tutorial.

There are chances that im doing something stupid, Im stuck anyway,
apreciate any help on clues how to do to get it done.

Thanks,

Re: [Geoserver-users] Avoiding invalidation of GeoWebCache tiles

2013-10-08 Thread cmaul
Hi Andrea,

I think there would be a use case. If you tile a layer you would do it for a
number of reasons: it is frequently called, you want to speed up your server
and/or want to relieve the database server or - which would be the most
common reason - you want to provide a basemap. In that case you want to
check the style in conjunction with others until you are satisfied that they
work together. Or, if you have a data custodian model like we have and the
custodian says I want the feature green you would need to convince him/her
that it isn't a good idea because something else is already green on the map
and might be mixed up with his feature. In that case you would want or need
to wait until this check is done.

Good enough reason?

Cheers

Christian

Thanks for the information. For now I'm going to just leave the setup as
is; it's not important and was just for logical separation of data - 200
layers is quite a lot for one generic workspace.

Cheers,

Production wise, the annoying part is replicating the connection pools,
something you can counter if you setup JNDI based ones (there are some
indications in the GeoServer tutorials), because many stores can use the
same connection pool shared by the web container.

Very much so I'm afraid, it would take a few hours or work just to make an
estimate.
In the past a concept of "Maps", as collection of layers, was discussed,
that would allow to generate virtual OGC services out
of random collection of layers, however it was never implemented due to
lack of funding.

That's definitely sub-optimal. Moving stuff around I could probably manage,
but it's the fact we'd need about 3 or four stores which are identical
other than the workspace they're assigned to; as you can imagine that's
quite redundant.
I'm guessing it'd be a significant piece of work to change that?
Cheers,
Jonathan

As you already figured out, the workspace association is done at the store
level, cannot be done at the layer level.
So yeah, if all the tools you have are the GUI, you'll have to create a new
store and re-create those layers I'm afraid.

If you can do some light programming/scripting though, you could use the
REST config API to change the featuretype reference from
one store to the other. It _should_ work (never tried it personally)

[Geoserver-users] Moving layers between workspaces

2013-10-08 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi List,
I was wondering if it is possible to move layers between workspaces. From
what I can gather reading around the subject, it I'm gathering maybe not.

I have a lot of layers in a single store that I'd like to send to other
workspaces. Do I have to create a new store and assign that second store to
a new workspace? Or is there a better way?

I want to move probably 100 layers to new workspaces; they're all in the
same store.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Re: [Geoserver-users] Print GIF from Geoserver 2.2.x Print Module

2013-10-08 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi Ben,
I'm not using the GeoServer Print module myself but a separate
stand-alone install of MapFishPrint (which is where the print module comes
from).
My own one does include output formats in the info.json output:

{"scales":[{"name":"1:250","value":"250"},...,{"name":"1:10,000,000","value":"1000"}],"dpis":[{"name":"300","value":"300"}],"outputFormats":[{"name":"bmp"},{"name":"jpg"},{"name":"wbmp"},{"name":"jpeg"},{"name":"png"},{"name":"pdf"},{"name":"gif"}],"layouts":[{"name":"A3
Landscape","map":{"width":1005,"height":780},"rotation":true},{"name":"A3
Portrait","map":{"width":780,"height":1020},"rotation":true},{"name":"A4
Landscape","map":{"width":675,"height":542},"rotation":true},{"name":"A4
Portrait","map":{"width":535,"height":700},"rotation":true}],"printURL":"
http://wppgeog3:8090/print2.0/pdf/print.pdf","createURL":";
http://wppgeog3:8090/print2.0/pdf/create.json"}

Also you can define the YAML to include all output formats with this:

formats: ['*']

You might want to try the stand alone MFP - it's significantly newer than
the one GeoServer uses. You can get a compiled snapshot from:
https://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/snapshots/org/mapfish/print/

Or maybe someone else can help you resolve the issue relayed in your post.

Regards,

Jonathan

[Geoserver-users] Print GIF from Geoserver 2.2.x Print Module

2013-10-08 Thread Ben Hayward-Browne
Hello,

I have been a Geoserver user for a couple of years (2.0.2 and now 2.2.5)
and have recently installed the Print Module
(Geoserver-2-2-SNAPSHOT-printing-plugin.zip) from the
geoserver/2.2x/community-2013-08-19 folder on the build server. I have
installed this, can run the demo page and print a pdf from it without any
problem.

As part of my current project's requirements I need to be able to print
GIFs as well as PDFs and from doing a bit of research came to the
conclusion that I needed to add a list of formats to my config.yaml file in
the Data_dir/printing folder, added as:
formats: ['pdf','png','gif'].

This I did but at no point does a list of outputFormats get returned in the
json output from server/geoserver/pdf/info.json (below). I have made no
other modifications to the config.yaml although I did experiment with
adding extra scales/dpis which were returned successfully.

{"scales":[{"name":"1:25,000","value":"25000"},{"name":"1:50,000","value":"5"},{"name":"1:100,000","value":"10"},{"name":"1:200,000","value":"20"},{"name":"1:500,000","value":"50"},{"name":"1:1,000,000","value":"100"},{"name":"1:2,000,000","value":"200"},{"name":"1:4,000,000","value":"400"}],"dpis":[{"name":"75","value":"75"},{"name":"150","value":"150"},{"name":"300","value":"300"},{"name":"600","value":"600"}],"layouts":[{"name":"A4
portrait","map":{"width":440,"height":483},"rotation":true},{"name":"Legal","map":{"width":440,"height":483},"rotation":false}],"printURL":"server/geoserver/pdf/print.pdf","createURL":"server/geoserver/pdf/create.json"}

After further investigation I came across a similar problem GEOS-5095 (
https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5095) and a patch, which I believe I
have successfully implemented into the printing module in the
community/printing folder in the Git 2.2.x branch. After rebuilding this
using mavern (3.0.03 on Mac OS X, unit tests were skipped during the build
as these were failing thus I could not produce a jar file) I copied the
output printing-2.2-SNAPSHOT.jar to my WEB-INF/lib directory but this
generates a runtime error in OpenLayers.js (IndexSizeError: Index or size
is negative or greater than the allowed amount, line 225) when I go to the
Printing demo page
server/geoserver/web/?wicket:bookmarkablePage=:org.geoserver.printing.PrintDemoPage.

Running the server/geoserver/pdf/info.json still does not provide any
outputFormats either which I guess is the problem with OpenLayers because
the formats JSONStore would be empty in the demo page. Thus I assume my
problem to be around getting these formats into and out of the Printing
plugin.

Geoserver is installed using the default Windows setup.exe and is running
on Windows 7. The plugin work was done on Mac OS X Mountain Lion because
this already had most of the requisites (mavern, eclipse, git, patch etc)
available and the output jar file was just copied across. Geoserver
information is as follows

Version 2.2.5
Git Revision 8ab0318e82ed874a2198f7771ea85d52687ae3a2
Build Date 25-Feb-2013 11:43
GeoTools Version 8-SNAPSHOT (rev 2aa9dae0f9a3e7d926918b3873b5d1ec59ab5efe)

JVM version: Oracle Corporation: 1.7.0_25 (Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM)

Any help, thoughts or pointers would be greatly received. Please let me
know if any other information is required.

Many thanks,

Ben Hayward-Browne

Personally I prefer this behaviour - Recreating the tiles takes a while and
a lot of processing power and I'd prefer to do it on my time.

I believe it is. Probably the code fails to relate the change in style
contents with the layer groups that
contain it... which is much more likely if you have them nested, given that
nesting is a recently added feature
in GeoServer

Re: [Geoserver-users] Avoiding invalidation of GeoWebCache tiles

2013-10-08 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi All,
I may be misunderstanding this issue, but my own TMS tiles don't expire
when I alter a SLD that is a component for them. I have "Enable direct
integration with GeoServer WMS" disabled, but am using the TMS aspect
(which is obviously enabled).

If I alter a SLD then new tiles will use it, but the old tiles will still
be unchanged.

But my layers are nested several layergroups down from the TMS layer
itself:

Mastermap Layer -> "MasterMap LayerGroup" -> "Vector Basemap Layer Group"

It's the "Vector Basemap Layer Group" that the TMS calls.

Is this behaviour incorrect then?

Cheers,
Jonathan

Re: [Geoserver-users] GetCapabilities Filter by Layer

2013-10-08 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi Both

@Rodrigo,
I believe in this case you're wrong. Fundamentally you're right in that
that is the purpose of GetCapabilities, but per the page Milo linked,
GeoServer does allow filtering, either by workspace, or apparently even by
layer (I've not done it myself). The notion is that you can use these as
"virtual services".

@Milo,
Having just tested it, this does work for me (Using both GeoServer 2.3.5
and 2.4.0)

This returns all layers within a workspace
http://wppgeog3:8082/geoserver/OS_Rasters/wms?request=GetCapabilities

This returns one specific layer within a workspace
http://wppgeog3:8082/geoserver/OS_Rasters/25_Colour/wms?request=GetCapabilities

As noted, both work fine and return the correct GetCapabilities subset.

I'm not sure why you'd get all of the results.

Jonathan
