Re: Syntax for grabbing all episodes of the new season of Celebrity Master Chef
While I don't disagree with much of your text, I believe you're wrong about the BBC terms of reference. My understanding is that if you access iPlayer from an Apple device, then that 30-day limit doesn't apply. All get_iplayer does is emulate (or simulate) that Apple environment, thereby avoiding the 30-day limitation. - Regards, Paul Thornett On Mon, 6 Jul. 2020, 11:09 VeniVidiVideo, wrote: > > Boy, the hypocrisy here is stunning. Re: Syntax for grabbing all episodes of the new season of Celebrity Master Chef
On my Freeview HD PVR I can record anything the BBC broadcast and keep it as long as I want. And it is a higher resolution and bit rate recording, often with 5.1 sound which iPlayer never provides. If I have to use iPlayer for some reason, I am already putting up with reduced picture and sound quality. Why should I also have to put up with a limited retention time? -- Owen Smith Cambridge, UK > On 6 Jul 2020, at 02:11, VeniVidiVideo wrote: > > Boy, the hypocrisy here is stunning. Boy, the hypocrisy here is stunning. The BBC allows time-limited downloads, but does NOT allow downloads without an expiration date. Every single license payer here is violating BBC's terms of service by using GiP to download files that do not expire. Yet heaven forbid someone from outside the UK violate those same terms of service. Plus, every US participant that has ever spoken up has observed they'd happily pay the license fee if they could. It is best NOT to do that. That is not what get_iplayer is for. Re: Syntax for grabbing all episodes of the new season of Celebrity Master Chef
In article , Geoff Smith wrote: > Bravo, Jon. > Giving Americans freebies at our Licence payers' expense is disgraceful. > "Grab" = "Steal". FWIW I'm also unhappy when people use get-iplayer for purposes like this. Not only because it means some people are making use of what the rest of us happily pay a license fee to support. And find use of gip very handy as a way - in the UK and having paid the fee - to watch and listen to BBC output. But also because it increases pressure on the BBC to block gip access, which for me - and many others - would be a real blow! Demise of get_iplayer PPA
I noticed in the Release Notes for v3.26 the announcement of the demise of the get_iplayer PPA. I have, for a number of years, been packaging and publishing my own software for Debian and Ubuntu. So far I have done the same for get_iplayer on Debian but only for my own consumption. With the demise of the current PPA, and given that I would continue to package get_iplayer for myself, I thought it should be straight forward to extend that activity to a PPA and a Debian repository. So, FWIW, my PPA now builds packages for Bionic, Eoan and Focal, and my Debian repo has packages for Stretch and Buster. Ubuntu PPA == https://code.launchpad.net/~m-grant-prg/+archive/ubuntu/utils If you wish to use this then you should remove the old PPA. Then add the new one:- sudo add-apt-repository ppa:m-grant-prg/utils sudo apt-get update Debian Repo === Please follow the instructions at:- https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=home%3Am-grant-prg=get-iplayer A Couple of Points To Note == * This is a packaging-only project, no upstream project file will be amended. * Packaging-only issues can be addressed, software issues should be addressed upstream. * get_iplayer has substantial functionality. This fuctionality cannot be tested as part of the package build and publication. * This is, of course, best effort only. Any feedback would be appreciated.
