[Gimp-developer] Marching Ants successor?

2012-10-22 Thread Gordon Edwards

Presuming unlimited GPU power, how should unfilled shapes/selection
outlines be displayed?

The noisy selection in noisy-217b.gif did not offer any real
delineation -- although most people would not manually work right up
close to the border, but that's not the point.

Is it possible to shadow (darken) the _unselected_ portion of the image?

Gordon.

[Gimp-developer] SmartDeblur

2012-10-22 Thread Luke Benes

Vladimir Yuzhikov has release his SmartDeblur program under the GPL at
https://github.com/Y-Vladimir/SmartDeblur
Yuzhikov worked on two common cases: blurring due to incorrect focus and
blurring due to movement. Each of you knows very well, he points out, they
are very difficult to repair. In fact, the examples used as samples by
Yuzhikov are impossible to fix using current commercial technology. You can see
these amazing results
here:http://gizmodo.com/5953601/incredible-csi-enhance-technology-fixes-unfocused-photos
If anyone has the interest to port this into the plugin system, it would make a
huge addition, giving GIMP something no other editor has.

That looks truly impressive, but it will have to become a GEGL op,
not a GIMP plug-in to be included. A GEGL op is also much more
useful generally.

Is Vladimir interested in working on that?

[Gimp-developer] Many thanks!!!!!!

2012-10-22 Thread Gertenrehn, Cecilia
Hello!

I am a teacher in sweden, and i just want to say thank you for the great work
you do.
Me, and the people i know who work with art in school (I work with the age
12-15).. are so happy that gimp exist.
Since we have no budget to buy programs to the kids computers, Gimp saves many
art teachers work.

There is a school law that says that the kids have to learn picture
manipulating programs in school, so without gimp, i think many teacher
wouldt be able to complete their mission as teachers.

I just want you to know, how important your work is. It i not only a fun
tool… it is necessary. The kids learn how to work with pictures. They also
understand better how media fools us with adds on skinny girls and perfect
skins. This makes them feel better about them selves and they become more
critical to pictures they meet in real life and in media. (Also the kids love
to work with gimp.)

I am an advanced user of photoshop, and i never thought it would be possible to
teach something that close to photoshop to my students.

Also you do an excellent job on developing the program. =)

I am going to donate the little money i have left this year on the art-school
budget, if i am allowed to do so. =) And i am going to tell the art teacher
colleagues i know on our internet page, to do the same. You deserve that.

I wish you all a great day, week, year.. and so on. Hug each other and
celebrate yourself.

And when you have a bad day, think of us, struggling teachers in sweden, which
have an easier job, thanks to you.

BIG HUGS FROM SWEDEN!

Thank you Cecilia, we are all collectively blushing!

It's really nice to get mail like this, in between all the
complaints :) About the donation, that would of course be
appreciated, but if you can spend it on something else that's
useful for the kids, go ahead and do that instead :)

 Hi all,

 I made some futile attempts to build git on SuSE 12.2 but as soon as I try and

 So far I hacked up some scripts, the babl script for example looks like this:

 #!/bin/bash
 export PATH=/opt/gimp-git/bin:$PATH
 export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/opt/gimp-git/lib/pkgconfig
 export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/gimp-git/lib
 export ACLOCAL_FLAGS=-I /opt/gimp-git/share/aclocal $ACLOCAL_FLAGS
 export XDG_DATA_DIRS=/opt/gimp-git/share

 cd babl
 ./autogen.sh --prefix=/opt/gimp-git  make

 which then results in babl being installed in /opt/gimp-git

Not unless you also run make install? ;)
If that is not the problem, check that babl.pc ends up in the
expected directory ($libdir/pkgconfig) and that PKG_CONFIG_PATH is set
accordingly.

Ahem, of course I ran make install :}

 If that is not the problem, check that babl.pc ends up in the

  Found babl-pc in /opt/gimp-git/lib64/pkgconfig:

dexter@shodan:/opt/gimp-git/lib64/pkgconfig$ cat babl.pc
prefix=/opt/gimp-git
exec_prefix=${prefix}
libdir=${exec_prefix}/lib64
includedir=${prefix}/include

Name: babl
Description: Dynamic, any to any, pixel format conversion library
Version: 0.1.11
Cflags: -I${includedir}/babl-0.1
Libs: -L${libdir} -lbabl-0.1 -lm

  When I check on PKG_CONFIG_PATH from console, it is empty.
I think that's the problem, but I'm not that deep into the field that I'm
sure. Could be some gtk devel files are missing. gtk2-devel is there, but I
wouldn't know what else I need.

[Gimp-developer] [GSoC] Mentor stipends, GSoC mentors

2012-10-22 Thread Michael Schumacher

Hi,

like in the past years, Google is issuing stipiend of $500 each for
every GSoC project an organization has been running (whether
successfully completed or not).

Unlike donation to GIMP, these are payments for services provided
(mentoring the GSoc students), and we may use the money more liberally.
This means that there are the following options:

1. mentors may request to have the money transferred to their own
accounts and use it as they please

2. mentors may choose to let the money reside in the GIMP account
handled by GNOME, just like any other donation

If you want to have the money be transferred to you, please let me know
about that before Nov 4th. If I don't here anything, I'll assume you're
going with option 2.

Ok, I expected the last line before the error to be the culprit and did not
look further up. Heat of the battle.
Installed gtk-doc and some libs that were missing, now I come as far as this:

rootme=`pwd`; \
destdir=`cd ../..  pwd`; export destdir; \
