Incorrect translation
Application: totem

Incorrect text:
In all languages except English, does not appears translated the Go - Skip
to.. option.

Should be:
In the source file src/plugins/skipto/totem-skipto-plugin.c, if we change the
line:
{ skip-to, GTK_STOCK_JUMP_TO, N_(_Skip to...), ControlK, N_(Skip to a
specific time), G_CALLBACK (skip_to_action_callback) }
by this:
{ skip-to, GTK_STOCK_JUMP_TO, _(_Skip to...), ControlK, _(Skip to a
specific time), G_CALLBACK (skip_to_action_callback) }
and compile it again, appears translated those strings. That is, we must remove
the N for leaving translated these two strings.

Thanks and excuse me for my english, but I'm spanish :P

The use of N_() is correct here. The proper fix is to add the missing call to
gettext() in the place where the string is used. Reassigning to totem.

Yes, should be possible by adding variants.

The larger problem with Kashmiri is that it needs Unicode
points for certain vowels that have no equivalent in Arabic.
This is something that we learnt from folk at the University
of Kashmir, who are working on a font including these changes.
A proposal to add these points to the Devanagari script is

Hmm, I am by no means an expert on this, but the Kashmiri

are apparently vowels that have no equivalent in Arabic,

new strings in at-spi

2008-09-19 Thread Matthias Clasen
I've committed the fix for the blocker bug 535827 to at-spi.
Technically, this breaks the string freeze, since it adds a schemas
file which has two new translatable strings.
It should be a purely statistical problem though. The only place where
these strings ever show up is in gconf-editor.

Yes, that's what we have (had?) for Serbian as well. The locale string will
have to include a script part, such as @Latn for latin scripts. Note that
the GNU C library and ISO people do not agree on the identifiers used for
scripts (e.g. @latin versus @Latn).

hard code freeze break request for eog

2008-09-19 Thread Claudio Saavedra
Hi,

There's a bug in the Eye of GNOME since the gio migration that won't
allow a user to set an image as the background wallpaper[1]. Even worse,
a user setting the wallpaper will get an ugly plain color as
background...

We have a patch to fix that[2], but unfortunately we didn't manage to
review this in time before code freeze. Even worse, there are two
strings that need to be added in order to fully fix this:

- Only local images can be used as wallpapers
- To be able to set this image as your wallpaper, please save it
locally in your computer

These strings will only be shown when a user tries to set as wallpaper
an image that is not locally in the computer, but the patch is required
also for local images.

The Eye of GNOME team, therefore, requests to break all possible
freezes, and in return, we compromise to:

1. Translate these strings to es, de, and pt_BR ourselves.
2. Get a really kicking ass image viewer for the next releases,
3. Buy Vincent some icecream in next guadec

Hey All,

This email has reminded me: can someone from the i18n teams please
take care of updating the i18n section of the release notes?

Murray also suggested that a placeholder paragraph be inserted for
translators to be able to insert a translation credit. Does someone
know how to do this?

I think I'm mostly done with the text (although I might add a
section or too). If you want to make a start on the translations, it
should be ok.

I still need some help collecting a few screenshots, volunteers
appreciated (grep for SCREENSHOT) also there are a few FIXMEs that
should be looked at (grep for FIXME).

Hi!

Why not just copy it for them automatically? Isn't there a standard
background directory now to put things in anyway?

Copying would indeed be the best solution, but it would require proper
user feedback during the process. This would make the patch more complex
and is something I would prefer to do in the next cycle.

Still, it would be nice to get some feedback regarding a default
background directory. This could make things easier. :-)

  Hi,

I have two warning messages at Spanish DL page:
  * gnome-power-manager

apparently I don't see any problem with those modules, they pass msgfmt

  Am I missing something?

  Thanks and cheers.

It's strange that theses strings pass msgfmt at your computer. Maybe you
 should upgrade intltool.
Thank you very much. Apparently msgfmt doesn't say anything, but when I
reviewd those strings with gtranslator I got a msgfmt error message,
weird.

Anyways, yes, I should upgrade intltool.

 Regards,
Cheers.

Re: Issue with script for Kashmiri Localisation

Hmm, I am by no means an expert on this, but the Kashmiri
language folk at the university gave us a detailed
exposition on exactly what codepoints were needed. These
are apparently vowels that have no equivalent in Arabic,
 Urdu, etc.

Well, the GNOME Foundation is a member of the Unicode Consortium, and
as one of the liaisons and someone who has proposed quite a few Arabic
characters to Unicode and got them accepted there, I would love to
help to pinpoint the characters or help push the proposal with the
consortium. (BTW, scans of documents showing the characters is usually
the most useful.)
