Probable bug in gtk and need clarification/context

2022-03-23 Thread Andika Triwidada via gnome-i18n
Hi All,

While reviewing translation, I wander here:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/blob/main/gtk/gtktexttag.c#L1102

  ADD_SET_PROP ("word-set", PROP_WORD_SET,P_("Word
set"),P_("Whether this tag represents a single
word"));  ADD_SET_PROP ("sentence-set", PROP_WORD_SET,
P_("Sentence set"),P_("Whether this tag represents a
single sentence"));

Maybe the second set should be like below?

  ADD_SET_PROP ("sentence-set", PROP_SENTENCE_SET,
P_("Sentence set"),P_("Whether this tag represents a
single sentence"));

... and not to be OOT, how should we translate those strings?

Word set -> does it mean "whether the word was set or not"

or "a set of words"?

Same question about "sentence".

Andika

Not sure how to treat this:
https://l10n.gnome.org/module/evolution-data-server/
said "This module has been archived. It is only kept for statistical
purposes. Please don’t translate it any more."

But why is it still included in GNOME 42 (development) UI?

Hi Claude,

Not sure if this is a problem or not.

Those gnome-devel-docs are not in GNOME 41 Documentation section anymore,
but they are still in GNOME 40 and GNOME 3.38's Documentation section.

Re: Fwd: Submit Help Translation on GNOME Terminal

2020-10-31 Thread Andika Triwidada via gnome-i18n
Hello, I think this problem is well known for Documentation translation. If
a language has not been translated, required directory help/language-code
will not be there, and DL can not automatically create it. Then in turn, DL
will not present "submit to repository" on pull down options.

Currently, we face this problem on these modules:
*
https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/gnome-user-docs/master/system-admin-guide/id/
* https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/five-or-more/master/help/id/
* https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/iagno/master/help/id/
* https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/31/27/89/ (gnome system monitor)
* https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/gnote/master/help/id/
* https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/gthumb/master/help/id/
* https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/gucharmap/master/help/id/
* https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/shotwell/master/help/id/

We would be very grateful if someone who has git write access to those
modules can help us create those prerequisite directories and language
entry in config files.

Application is not available

The application is currently not serving requests at this endpoint. It
may not have been started or is still starting.

Possible reasons you are seeing this page:

The host doesn't exist. Make sure the hostname was typed correctly and
that a route matching this hostname exists.
The host exists, but doesn't have a matching path. Check if the URL
path was typed correctly and that the route was created using the
desired path.
Route and path matches, but all pods are down. Make sure that the
resources exposed by this route (pods, services, deployment configs,
etc) have at least one pod running.

Is this expected?

I haven't tried other than .po, but allowed attachment on D-L are .po,
.gz, .bz2, and .png.
Problem is, those files can only go to po/ directory, so if you need
to upload .png

 This is fallout from updating gettext on damned-lies to the newest

 are now extracted *correctly*, therefore we get new strings in
 gnome-shell. I know it's tempting to update old branches to have 100%

 no new releases on anything older than 3.10, so updating master should
 be enough. If you absolutely need to do that though, that's also not

 And big thanks to Andrea Veri for updating gettext! We really

 more freedom to translate the whole block and make it more fluid in a

 having one less error source, but reducing flexibility for

You can add some notes for translator, explaining relations between those

I think it will be easier if you choose Reserve for translation at start,
then Upload the new translation to upload your translation to DL,
before requesting help for commit.

That way, you only need to provide single URL since anyone
can easily get URL to translated files from there.

You can follow up real commits with Inform of submission later,

That string resides in a vala code [1].
Would anyone comment/review my patch? It was to make that string translatable.

Google Code-In 2011 time in hours

Hi Andre,

After you have converted all estimated time from days to hours, it seems
that every task,
even the simplest one, need much more time than initially. For instance,
when I wrote

 am I wrong?

yes, they're very low level

 Let me ask in other words. In the context of GNOME platform release notes,
 what is the main information? What does it bring to developers? Is it a new
 API? A new facility? Or a performance improvement? Or just a warning that
 internal changes may now break things? Is it targeted at glib developers or
 application developers?

I guess you need to check http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.2/
to see how those PO lines will be grouped together for final presentation.

There are section for end users, another section for developers who has
concern to glib, another one to gtk+, and so on.

What is the point of translating language names in http://www.gnome3.org/

I think they are needed by visitor who prefer to read in his/her native

 When you translate the release notes, you do not need to translate
 these language name strings, so you just copy the original string.
 The reason why they show up in the .PO file is that it needs some
 effort to mark them as 'untranslatable' (may not be possible either).

Ok. Thanks for explanation.

 I generated pot file from nowdays gtk+ 2.20 revision and it contains no
 New, Copy, etc... strings.

I believe they are in libgnomeui

Now I have a question to all translators:
Since not all strings which appears in an application comes from that
application itself,
or sometime we doesn't even know what application is running and displaying
a specific string, is there a web based service/standalone application
which can help us
finding which module contains that string? Do you have to search that

Comments were confusing. Indonesia uses 24-hour time format. But if package

 It seems that Transifex is committing on git.packagekit.org, not
 directly on freedesktop repo. I don't know how repositories are
 organized/synchronized. You should probably ask packagekit maintainers.

 Indeed, this is the case. git.packagekit.org is the repo used by
 committers, and the freedesktop repo is the one publicly available for
 reading. It updates almost every day, AFAIK.

I think the main problem is that no one on Malay team has git commit access.
Why don't you as coordinator has one?

If you have git commit access, then you can execute your translation

bigger problem.

legal notice must not translated?

2010-04-28 Thread Andika Triwidada
Hi,

I read something we (Indonesian translators) have been done differently than
this rule for GNOME:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/FAQ#Should_I_translate_legal_notices.3F

Should I translate legal notices?

No. You must never do that. The exact wording of the legal notices is
very important and a translation not approved by lawyers is very
risky. Red Hat is the legal representative and primary sponsor of the
Fedora Project and does not have the resources to cross check every
single translation. Just leave the original English notice in tact
when it covers legal matters.

What is GNOME l10n's policy about this?

Thanks

 Usually the legal notice (usually GPLv2 or v3) shouldn't be marked for

Umm, maybe I misunderstood what legal notice means.

 pencil icon next to the Details title on your team's main page.

Ahh, ok. I missed that. Thank you.

  Could someone explain how do we make sure that our setup for handling
  bugzilla bug reports was properly done?

 Currently both the Default Assignee and the Default QA Contact is set up
 to your personal address.
 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=l10n

 Several team choose to request a Bugzilla alias (e.g.
 l10n-fr-ma...@gnome.bugs) so each registered Bugzilla user can simply
 receive all bugs email by watching the alias (configurable in Email
 Preferences).
 If you want such an alias, open a bug report against the
 bugzilla.gnome.org product (or ping someone on #bugs).

 Claude

 Ok. Thanks again
