Re: Percentages in eog
Hi Alexandre, The code these strings are in is based on a similar widget from Evince where they are translatable as well. So I kept them translatable thinking that there is a reason for that. If you don't need to translate them I can unmark them. On a second thought it might actually be the better solution as the value that will be displayed after selecting one of these strings is actually formatted using "%d%%". Regards Felix Am 23. New translation contexts in eog
Hi, while it probably wouldn't need an announcement, I just wanted to let you know that I just pushed a workaround for bug 654548[1] (the one I asked for input ~two weeks ago) which added translation contexts to two existing strings in eog's preferences dialog. The situation is a GtkSpinbutton which is injected in a sentence (which then is actually split in half). This was difficult to translate at least into Zulu, as one label would end up empty. To avoid ambiguities the contexts now came in. As I don't know if other translations were affected by this (and didn't tell anyone) I didn't touch any translation but I guess for most teams it should be enough to remove the fuzzy markers. The longterm solution will be to replace the current UI with a better one possibly using a scale instead of the spinbutton. Regards, Felix [1]: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=654548 ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n
Translating labels with inserted widgets
Hi *, I'm looking for some input regarding bug 654548[1]. The bug's problem is a spinbutton widget that is inserted between two labels in eog's preferences dialog. This is problematic to translate at least into Zulu as the label that is after the spinbutton would be empty. Is this an issue to other languages as well? If yes, how did you solve/worked around it? As we currently can't come up with a better solution/string to solve it, the proposed solution is to assign translation contexts to the labels to allow setting one of the two label strings empty (avoiding problems if one subsentence is used elsewhere). Also tranlator comments explaining the situation to translators can be added. Would that be a viable translation to you? Thanks in advance, Felix P.S.: Other proposals to solve it are of course welcome too. ;) [1] https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=654548 ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n

The problem with this and actual focal length is that they are pretty long. As we already have a width issue in EOG's property dialog I tried to keep it as short as possible and the proposal for this variant looked pretty good to me. String addition to EOG
Hi! As string change announcement period starts today, I thought I make you aware of some strings I just added to EOG's trunk (Sorry, I know it's pretty close before release) which might be a bit tricky. In an attempt to fix bug #543171 I added the following two strings to EOG which will be shown in the image properties dialog: + %.1f (lens) This one means to describe the actual focal length of the lens used while taking a picture. This is the value that was displayed up to now. + %.1f (35mm film) This one is also the focal length but assumes you used a 35mm film camera. This is apparently the prefered value by photographers because it is comparable while the lens value is dependending on the camera. The bracketed descriptions are added for differentiation because both values are displayed in the same line using Focal Length as description. String change: Eye of GNOME
Hi, I just want to inform you about some string changes I just made to EOG yesterday. The first one corrects the plural form when talking about w x h pixel(s). There I changed the singular form to actually be singular. This required changes to eog-window.c and eog-thumbview.c. To save one translation I adapted the similar one in eog-file-chooser.c to match with the other ones. See rev. 3882 for details. The next one simply fixes a typo in eog-window.c: Help On this application - Help on this application. I also removed some unnecessary translations from eog.glade. But I guess these are uncritical.
