How many people talk in this language?
If there be a Gnome Translation of your language, how many users will use it?
In what areas of world people speak/read this language?

What if it was a fake language?

I know a person that tried to get a language (FA_AF and prs) to use as a
FA_IR alternative...

Why you must let a translation team for a language with no use be started?
How you guarantee that it will not be misused?

Hi,

Because there was a person that wants to take a language coordination for
a language that was not his mother language, EVEN he did not know it! If
you look at the list history you can see mails from a person that tries
to get fa_AF and prs!

Just to clear the situation: I think there should be a method to validate
language team requests.

How can I benefit from gnome.org facilities like svs? Can I have latest
changes to strings?

I just started a branch for my own, but the problem is that it is hart to
keep in sync with gnome strings (new strings).

Do u have any solution?

As you can see in the history, there was a long discussion about this
problem.

I am optimistic about the progress and think there is no need for new
fight.

You can start translating and post them to bugzilla and wait for
submission.

Depending on the result (of course after a reasonable time) we can take
new decisions.

Re: Slowness in farsi translation

2008-06-25 Thread Mohammad Foroughi
Mr. Hesabi:

Roozbeh Pournader has made a significant contribution to persian
translation, farsi fonts, and fribidi and many other projects.

He was active till 2006, but I do not know why he become inactive
during 2006-2008:

http://tinyurl.com/4o2p5x

He just become re-active by my emails to the list.

But it seems that he is very monopolist, and do not let others to join
his team. He think that gnome is his father's inheritance, and he and
his guys are representation of All Iranians In The World!!!

I wanna know how many hands he have?

Can a person manage all these:

Developer on FriBiDi
  * Contributor on Fedora Project
  * Contributor on Pango
  * Contributor on GNOME i18n Project
  * Contributor on Translation Project
  * Contributor on GNOME
  * Contributor on GTK+
  * Contributor on Mozilla
  * Contributor on Evolution
  * Contributor on FarsiTeX
  * Lead Developer on Sharif Linux

http://www.advogato.org/person/roozbeh/

This causes that all things are blocked and in domination of a single
group.

It is better to take coordination from him and give it to an
organization in iran, and that organization decide he DESERVES
coordination?

Roozbeh says that I do not deserve attention,

I SAY that HE DO NOT DESERVE COORDINATION?

Witch one is true?

How you can decide?

Can gnome boys that are not Native persian Speakers decide?

No, iranians should deciude?

I propose, you (gnome founders and admins) make an email to an Iranian
institute that is responsible for translation (or similar things) and
aks them: "If roozbeh is a competent person?" Or make a connection to
sharif university and ask them about roozbeh.

I strongly insist that roozbeh and his team must change and the new team
coordination should be given to an institute instead of a single person.

this way, an arrogant person can not play with a nation's benefits.

Best Wishes,
Mohammad Foroughi.

Slowness in farsi translation

2008-06-23 Thread Mohammad Foroughi
Hi all,

It seems that the process of translating gnome into persian is slow. I
asked Behnam Esfahbod and he told me that there is only 2 active members
in the team: Mr. pournader commits translations and his wife reviews
them.

 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?product=l10n&component=Persian
[fa]&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED

In the above link you can see the amount of work done but did not
reviewd or commited.

Why mr. pournader do not allow others to review or commit? It will
speedup translation process.

He can use experienced translators from HIS team, like Behdad Esfahbod,
Behnam Esfahbod and others.

And if they are busy too, he can use people like Mirdamadi and others
from ubuntu persian team (coordinated by behnam esfahbod), it seems that
they have free time and can work, also they are EXPERIENCED TRANSLATORS.

So, Roozbeh, please let others help you...

Best Regards,
Mohammad Foroughi

In my header, I just deleted it and now everything is OK.

Tanx for your concern,

I used this command:

And this is the output:

Tanx,

It works, I downloaded the file:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~mvo/bzr/gnome-app-install/gai--main/po/gnome-app-install.pot

Then used these commands:

>touch ./tmp.po
>msgmerge tmp.po gnome-app-install.pot -o gnome-app-install.po

Then Translated the 'Add/Remove...' String, and finally run this
command:

>sudo msgfmt ./gnome-app-install.po
>-o /usr/share/locale-langpack/fa/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-app-install.mo

And Now my menu is Persian!

Thank you very much.

A coordinator with very long response time

2008-05-13 Thread Mohammad Foroughi
Hi,

Here is a list of unconfirmed bugs:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?product=l10n&component=Persian

13. 2008-05-04 13:50 UTC (this is mine;)
14. 2008-05-04 13:52 UTC (this is mine;)

And now the date is: 2008-05-14 !!!

Mr. Poornader is very busy, why he didn't manage bugs?

He also asked other translators not to submit anything to svn for me,
here is the link of his message:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2008-April/msg00122.html

He said:

>translations or patches to the SVN without a review by another more
>experienced translator, please! GNOME doesn't do that for code, and it
>shouldn't do it for translations either.

So PLEASE tell me how can I contribute to gnome translation?

Hi didn't submit my translations (http://417.ir/po) and asked others not to
submit

If he is busy, he SHOULD resign and you must select another coordinator.

problem with translating totem

2008-05-04 Thread Mohammad Foroughi
Hi,

I translated totem to persian (to tell you the truth, I completed it's
translation), but I am unable to translate a string: '_Skip to...'

 Here is a picture of it's ui:http://417.ir/img/totem-skipto-problem.jpg

In the file nautilus.HEAD.fa.po, I found an entry:

>#: ../src/plugins/skipto/totem-skipto-plugin.c:216
>msgid "_Skip to..."
>msgstr "_پرش به..."

But it seems to be incorrect!

There was a similar problem with 'Play / Pa_use' string. I downloaded
totem source code and saw that line number was incorrect, correcting
that solved the problem.

But with totem, correctign line number did not solve my problem.

is the line '#: ../src/plugins/skipto/totem-skipto-plugin.c:216'
important?

Please help,

Hi roozbeh,

 I just started translating gnome-panel.

I translated it's first 1600 lines, but before completing it, wann know

Please chek it for me and tell me:

  Is it acceptable for you?
  Should I continue?
Do you submit it to SVN for me?

 Here is its link: http://417.ir/gnome-panel.HEAD.fa.po

Also There is a little question:

 The page
at:
http://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/LocalisationGuide#head-74c781537477caa1e5d82f2725a6104b16f1a144
says that we should not translate frases like \"red\" in the text:

If so, you are true. But there is just a little question of mine: I was

totem and all other thigs are completely translated. My question is: how
can I have a translated mozilla (or totem or other things) in my ubuntu,

Hi

Actually I need your po files and you glossary to be able to contribute
efficiently. I start using pugzila but it seems that there are too many
bugs in gnome and posting a bug for every of them seems not to be
reasonable.

Instead I want to have all current po files+glossary. May I have them?

To tell you the truth, I'll say "you are completely true" ONLY WHEN I
get all po files of Sharif Linux, abd be able to post all of them to SVN
(myself of through a team member).

I belive that your did valuable contributions in past.

Re: start a new translation team

2008-04-13 Thread Mohammad Foroughi
Hi,

You can see Sharif Linux's persian translation here:
http://www.farsiweb.ir/wiki/Image:Application_Menu.png

And there is current translation of ubuntu 8.04 here:
http://417.ir/ubuntu-8.04.jpg

Did you noticed the difference? Even non iranian readers can see the
difference! Their is lots of english labels in the ubuntu 8.04
translation.

Why their translation in their *commercial* linux is completely
different from ubuntu? I know the answer: because they do not distribute
their translation to your svn!

I just want to start a NEW TEAM, and do my contribution to persian
translation.

They did not update their translation from 2 years ago, even if they
decide to start working after 2 years they can. I just want to start a
new team (not to stop their team!).

Please ask Mr. Poornader: why their linux's translation is completely
different from ubuntu's translation>

Dear mr. daneshvar: please see this persian forum link:

start a new translation team

2008-04-13 Thread Mohammad Foroughi
Dear sir,

I want to start a new translation team for Persian language. You me say
that there is already a team for persian, yes I know thatm bust it is
about 2 years that the old team did not act any usefull action. If you
take a look at their web site (http://www.farsiweb.ir/wiki/Main_Page),
just at the very buttom of the page, you can see that it's last update
is: October 2006!

Another problem is that they do not distribute their translation to the
gnome community: if you take a look at their distribution (Sharif Linux)
screenshots (http://www.farsiweb.ir/wiki/Screenshots), you can see that
their translation is really complete! And all the environment is
translated into persian! But if you look at gnome's persian translation
or install a distribution like ubuntu or debian or fedora and see it's
persian environment, you will see a very poor translation! Do you know
what? because their linux distribution is not completely free! And they
do not spread their works completely.

So, PLEASE let me help the gnome persian translation.

Best regards,
Mohammad Foroughi.
