String freeze break request

2010-06-21 Thread Fernando Herrera
Hi,

I would like to request a string freeze break for libgail-gnome.

Currently, this gtk module is not loaded because during GNOME 2.2x we
changed how gtk modules were set up. Now we need to provide a gconf
key under /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules. So in order to get
this module loaded we have to add a new gconf schema to libgail-gnome.

Here is the bug and the patch:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=622284

Probably it is too late for this GNOME 2.30.x release, but I would
like to get this approved for the next release.

Thanks!

Nautilus string freeze break request

2009-02-18 Thread Alexander Larsson
I'd like to fix:

Bug 565610 – Replacing folder with file from within that folder destroys
both: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=565610

However, the fix includes showing an error dialog, so it introduces a
few strings:

_("You cannot move a file over itself.")
_("You cannot copy a file over itself.")
_("The source file is overwritten by the destination.")

Patch and bug is described in bugzilla.

Is this ok?

As this release might be the last in the 2.30 cycle, and as this change
would create a new module just for 2 schema strings (seldom visible to
the user), I suggest that you go ahead without setting up an i18n
infrastructure in libgail-gnome.

Just wait for a second approval from the i18n coordination team.

Minor string freeze break request

2010-09-02 Thread Guillaume Desmottes
Hi guys,

A translator reported [1] that the account widgets automatically
generated are not properly translated. Those are considered as fallback:
they are used when Empathy doesn't have a proper widget for the protocol
(as Gadu Gadu for example). We can't properly translated them as the
labels are generated using the Telepathy parameters from the connection
manager but we could easily improve the current situation by translating
the most commonly used parameters.

I cooked a branch doing that:
http://git.Collabora.co.uk/?p=user/cassidy/empathy;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/translate-param-628601

It added 4 translatable strings:
- "Account" , "Server" and "Port" but they were already translated so
that's fine
- "Password" which is not translated.

Note that "Password:" is translated so I guess that shouldn't be an
issue to add it.

Thanks,

G.

Hi,

I'd like to request a string freeze break for cheese, in order to commit
the patch available here:

Basically it seems that some mnemonics was removed from cheese menu
entries, as well other entries are using wrong strings (for instance
Help Content instead Content, or Save As without ..., or _Preferences
instead Prefere_nces).

>From translators point of view it should be a simple task (restore some

OK to commit

Boxes string freeze break request

2012-09-18 Thread Christophe Fergeau
Hey,

I'd like to request a very late string freeze break for code that I'd like
to get into Boxes 3.5.92. This is to fix bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=684224, which causes Boxes to
seem to be hung in some error situations.

The first patch in this bug adds one new string _("Connection to '%s'
failed") which will only appear in the UI when an error occurs after
clicking on a box in the collection view to try to connect to it. It will
not be user visible when all goes well.

The patches are still under review, so I'm not 100% sure yet they will go
into 3.5.92, but since it's getting late I'm asking for approval before
they are fully reviewed. If this break is approved, I'll let you know when
these patches get committed.

Thanks,

christophe

Evolution string freeze break request

2006-08-26 Thread Daniel Gryniewicz
Hi, all.

As part of working on the fix for bug #349966 (1), Srinivasa Ragavan and
I have decided that a new gconf key needs to be added. This would break
string freeze, so I'm requesting here, before anything gets committed.

Here's the background. As part of the change that switched evolution
from using gnome_file_entry to using gtk_file_chooser, a bug was
introduced where, under some circumstances, a URI could be saved in the
gconf key /apps/evolution/mail/save_dir, which was later passed to a
non-URI accepting function. The discussion around the fix for this
resulted in my producing a patch to convert all users of that key
(except one) to using only URI based file access, allowing remote access
over, say, sftp:// URIs. Srinivasa and I agree that this is a very
desirable feature to have in 2.16, especially since the mixture of local
paths and URIs has caused problems in the past.

However, there's one piece of code in evolution that still uses
gnome_file_entry for it's dialogs, which won't take URIs. This is the
code to add a specific alarm audio file to an alarm in the calendar.
This code was also using the /apps/evolution/mail/save_dir key, which we
consider to be a bug. Adding an alarm file shouldn't change the
directory used to save attachments. In addition, changing this to use
gtk_file_chooser was deemed to large a change for this late in the
release cycle. It will occur in evo 2.9.

The solution to this is to add a new key for the alarm audio file
dialogs to use. This key will be /apps/evolution/calendar/audio_dir.
The schema (2) added for this breaks string freeze.

If this freeze break is granted, I'd like to add another request to it:
the key /apps/evolution/mail/save_dir, which has existed for many
versions, currently has no schema. I would like to add a schema (3) for
it, which would also break string freeze.

Totem string freeze break request

2008-02-29 Thread Philip Withnall
Hi,

After talking to Bastien about the (now reverted) accidental freeze
break in revision 5187, we've decided to ask for a proper freeze break
for it.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454642

We're requesting addition of one string ("Time seek bar") to add an
accessibility label to the seek bar --- an important part of Totem.

The same label used to be in Totem before we switched to GtkBuilder, but
was lost when converting the glade files; there's the possibility that
some of the .po files still have commented-out translations of the
string, if that helps. (From a quick grep, maybe 20 have it present but
commented out.)

The patch itself has been tested, and carries minimal risk. This would
stop Totem's usability regressing due to the GtkBuilder conversion, and
as such we think it's an important change.

The patch is attached.

Philip

Orca: String-freeze break request

2014-09-06 Thread Joanmarie Diggs

TL;DR: No good deed goes unpunished. Please, please grant this request.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=736214

Proposed strings (3):

+# Translators: Orca's verbosity levels control how much (or how little)
+# Orca will speak when presenting objects as the user navigates within
+# applications and reads content. The levels can be toggled via
command.

+# This string describes that command.
+TOGGLE_SPEECH_VERBOSITY = _("Toggles speech verbosity level.")

+# Translators: Orca's verbosity levels control how much (or how little)
+# Orca will speak when presenting objects as the user navigates within
+# applications and reads content. The two levels are "brief" and
"verbose".

+# The following string is a message spoken to the user upon toggling
+# this setting via command.
+SPEECH_VERBOSITY_BRIEF = C_("Speech", "Verbosity level: brief")

+# Translators: Orca's verbosity levels control how much (or how little)
+# Orca will speak when presenting objects as the user navigates within
+# applications and reads content. The two levels are "brief" and
"verbose".

+# The following string is a message spoken to the user upon toggling
+# this setting via command.
+SPEECH_VERBOSITY_VERBOSE = C_("Speech", "Verbosity level: verbose")

Detailed explanation:

"Clickable" elements are those which have an onClick handler. Sadly,
these elements tend to be text spans that are not focusable, not
discoverable, and thus inaccessible. Orca now announces their presence
and provides means to navigate to them and activate them. As a result,
these formerly inaccessible elements are now accessible. This new
feature was added during the 3.13/3.14 release cycle. And there was much
rejoicing. Until

From user testing, I've recently learned that certain sites, see Voice
of America's "learn english" content as an example, makes pretty much
EVERY word clickable so that (sighted, mouse-using) learners can click
on a word and have that word's definition pop up. This unfortunately
makes the content unreadable at Orca's "verbose" level of speech
verbosity. ("This clickable makes clickable the content clickable
unreadable clickable at Orca clickable 's level clickable of speech
clickable verbosity clickable ."). :(

Such sites indicate that it is no longer the case that there is a single
verbosity level that should JustWork(tm) for the user. It needs to be
toggle-able. I've made this change and committed it to master. I'd
really (really, really, really) like to commit it to the 3.14 branch.
Please and thank you. :)

[evolution] String freeze break request

2015-03-03 Thread Milan Crha
Hello,
there are currently filled two bug reports:

   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=745338

where the first shows an ugly typo in a translatable string (my
fault), and the second asks to add context to a string, to distinguish

String freeze break request for Vinagre

2009-02-18 Thread Jonh Wendell
Vinagre has the ability to connect into a machine which requires an
username, besides the password. This feature was added some time ago.

Today I realised the dialog that asks that information wasn't well
"secure" against "deep" users, who could send an empty string as the
password.

So, I gave some love to that dialogue, and, as a result there are 5 new
strings:

"All fields above are mandatory"
This is in glade file, tells the user that [s]he must fill all fields.

"Authentication error"
"An username is required in order to access this machine."
"A password is required in order to access this machine."
These three above are messages displayed in an error dialogue.

"_Authenticate"
This is the new label for the button in the authentication dialogue (it
was just "OK").

Thanks,

Typo, should be "hard disk"

Hej Alex,

Can you please describe exactly what "The source file is overwritten by
the destination." means? Is it something that is happening, will happen
or has happened already?

Its what would happen if we continued, but we've detected this and are
showing an error dialog saying this.

Perhaps not an ideal string, any improvements are accepted gladly.

This sentence:

"The source file is overwritten by the destination."

...implies something is about to happen, but from your explanation I
understand that this error is shown when something was *prevented* to
happen. So, I'd suggest changing it to something like this:

"Source file cannot be overwritten by the destination file."

Does that make any sense?

The main error message is "You cannot move a file over itself." and then
there is a secondary message describing this which is "The source file
is overwritten by the destination.", i don't think using cannot a second
time is a good description.

However, maybe we can do:
"You cannot move a file over itself."
"The source file would be overwritten by the destination."

String freeze break request for Vino

2009-02-26 Thread Jonh Wendell
In order to fix bug 330691 [1], a new string is mandatory:
"Others can access your computer using the address %s or %s."

The good news is that it's just a variation of another string that already
exists:
"Others can access your computer using the address %s"

Summary: Currently we show the IP address of the machine. With the append of
the string "or %s" we show the avahi hostname as well.

String freeze break request for Vinagre

2009-03-20 Thread Jonh Wendell
Hello, guys.

I fixed bug http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574134 . The bug is that
Vinagre allows you to create two itens in bookmarks with the same name. This
would lead to a confusion.

I really would like to have this fixed for 2.26.1, as I do not consider it as
'trivial, can wait'.

So, the fix introduces two new strings:

=> The name "%s" is already used in this folder. Please use a different name.
This one is exactly the same as found in nautilus. (Maybe it helps the
cut&paste)

=> Invalid name for this item
This one is marked as fuzzy, because it's similar to an existing vinagre
string: "Invalid name for this folder".

So, may I commit the fix?

Thanks,

String freeze break request for Empathy

2009-08-27 Thread Jonathan Tellier
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,

I am an Empathy developer who has been working on the accounts
management dialog lately. I have been fixing some bugs related to the
new design of this dialog. However, in order to improve the user
experience, some messages had to be added. Unfortunately, I have not
been able to complete my modifications before the string freeze and I
have to request a string freeze break. Here are the new messages added:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=593054
In the patch intended to address that bug, a string representing the
default display name is created. The format of that string can vary
depending on the protocol. Without this patch, the user could be
confused if he has multiple IRC account or multiple accounts where there
is no notion of "username". By default, the display name would be the
"username" but in the two cases I just mentioned, all account would have
the same display name. Here are code snippets where strings have been
added:

[...]
/* To translators: The first parameter is the login id and the
 * second one is the server. The resulting string will be something
 * like: "MyUserName on chat.freenode.net".
 * You should reverse the order of these arguments if the
 * server should come before the login id in your locale.*/
default_display_name =
g_strdup_printf (_("%1$s on %2$s"), login_id, server);

[...]
/* To translators: The parameter is the protocol name. The resulting
 * string will be something like: "Jabber Account" */
default_display_name = g_strdup_printf (_("%s Account"), protocol);

[...]
default_display_name = g_strdup (_("New account"));

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592997
To address that bug report, some messages have been added to inform the
user that the modifications he has made to an account are about to be
lost. He can then choose to proceed or not. There is not really another
viable alternative that can be used to inform the user of the situation.
Showing him those messages is pretty much the only option. Here are code
snippets where strings have been added:

[...]
message = g_strdup_printf (
_("There are unsaved modification regarding your %s account.\n"
"You are about to create a new account, which will discard\n"
"your changes. Are you sure you want to proceed?"),
empathy_account_get_display_name (account));

[...]
message = g_strdup_printf (
_("There are unsaved modification regarding your %s account.\n"
"You are about to select another account, which will discard\n"
"your changes. Are you sure you want to proceed?"),
empathy_account_get_display_name (account));

[...]
message = g_strdup_printf (
_("There are unsaved modifications regarding your %s account.\n"
"Are you sure you want to close the window? "),
  empathy_account_get_display_name (account));

Please note that the actual content of those three messages might change
a bit. The branch containing them has not yet been reviewed. The final
version of those strings could be merged tomorrow at the latest.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience that this string freeze break can
generate.

String freeze break request for Empathy

2009-10-15 Thread Cosimo Cecchi
Hi GNOME translators,

I hereby request a string freeze break for Empathy, for the following
strings, which were introduced some time ago in the gnome-2-28 branch in
order to look nicer on the Moblin platform.

"Do you want to remove %s from your computer?"
"L_og in"
"This will not remove your account on the server."
"Respond"
"_Next"

Note that these strings are turned off in regular builds, and are only
used when Empathy is built on the Moblin platform. Thus, translators
should feel free to ignore them, or give them a low priority.
This is explained with comments before the strings.

In another thread, I already got an (informal) first approval from Gabor
Kelemen.

Cheers, and sorry for the confusion this might have created.

I herby declare that as "string that was not marked for translation"
because besides the technical issues, that is exactly what it is. The user
isn't any worse than before when the string isn't translated. As such - no

String freeze break request for Orca

2010-09-03 Thread Joanmarie Diggs
Hi all.

I'm afraid we've been told that one of the strings in Orca is too long,
at least in Hungarian. [1] The person reporting it is both a translator
and an Orca user.

The proposed solution is the removal of the long string in favor of a
shorter one:

-_("Enable notification message list mode. " \
- "Press Escape to exit or h for help"))
+_("Present notification messages list"))

I am requesting permission to break string freeze to address this issue.

Thanks in advance. With apologies,

string freeze break request for eog

2010-09-13 Thread Claudio Saavedra
Hi,

Bug #534348 requires us to add a new string to eog. This string reads
something along

"The image \"%s\" has been modified by an external application. Would
   you like to reload it?"

This bug can be a bit annoying specially for ubuntu users, due to some
patches they have to allow direct access to an external editor from the
eog ui. We've got plenty of noise because of this in GNOME bugzilla, so
I rather have this fixed soon than getting more bogus reports from
Ubuntu users once their 10.10 is out.

The region panel of control center allows the user to change their
configured locale. The problem is, the string says:

Select a display language

but the effects don't take effect until next login. This is pretty
confusing. We'd like to something like:

-Select a display language
+Select a display language for next login

to make things a lot clearer. Is this okay?

String freeze break request for folks

2011-09-12 Thread Philip Withnall
Hi all,

Could we have a freeze break for one string in folks please?

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=658730

The string “Imported %u buddies from '%s'.” needs to be ngettext-ised,
and as a result the singular form, “Imported %u buddy from '%s'.”, needs
to be added.

The bug report has a patch.

String freeze break request for seahorse

2012-03-19 Thread Stef Walter
I accidentally released seahorse 3.3.92 from git master instead of the
seahorse gnome-3-4 branch. We had merged several translation fixes to
the master branch, including three minor string changes.

In order to remedy my mistake. I'd like to ask for a string freeze break.

It also seems like several translators committed updated translations to
the master branch instead of the gnome-3-4 branch. So in general I would
posit that the seahorse master branch is in better shape for a GNOME 3.4
release, despite the string changes.

Attached is a patch with the differences between the gnome-3-4 branch
and master.

Cheers,

Stef

The string changes are:

Nautilus UI/string freeze break request

2012-09-06 Thread Cosimo Cecchi
Hi all,

the new search feature in Nautilus 3.6 is supposed to order the
results by relevance automatically, and pre-select the first result.
This currently works correctly in list view, but a bug [1] breaks this
model for icon view.
I attached a patch to that bug, which adds a new menu item in the view
menu and two new strings, and would like to commit it for 3.6, so I'm
requesting an UI/string freeze break.

Thanks,
Cosimo

Nautilus UI/String freeze break request

2012-09-14 Thread Cosimo Cecchi
Hi all,

I apologize for the many freeze break requests for Nautilus this
cycle, but I have one last request to commit an UI/string change.
Currently we have two mimetype columns for List view: one (enabled by
default) displaying its description as a (typically long) string, and
another one displaying the "raw" mimetype string.
Bug 683722 [1] proposes to change the default column to use a more
generic and compact string describing the mimetype; for instance, all
the images would be displayed as "Image". The goals are to make it
possible to group objects of the same family when sorting, and to
reduce the horizontal space such a column takes in the default list
view layout. The raw mimetype string would still be available
unchanged as a view option for more advanced filtering.

The patch is available on the bug and introduces a bunch of new
(short) strings. I think this would add a good extra polish for
Nautilus 3.6.

To me, this sounds mostly cosmetic.
I would be ok with it if we could just steal the translations from
nautilus, but the mnemonic and the docs being affected make it sound
like we should perhaps hold off with this.

String freeze break request for Glade

2014-03-04 Thread Juan Pablo Ugarte
Hello guys I would like to request some string freeze break for glade

I recently added a lots of strings in a user survey in which I
introduced a typo (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=724835)

Besides fixing the typo I would like to add the following strings which
are currently untranslated on the sever side.

"Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey, we appreciate
it!"
"Name and Email fields are required"
"Ops! email address is already in use!\nTo update information you need
to provide the token that was sent to your inbox."
"Ops! Error saving user information: %s"
"Ops! Error saving survey data: %s"
"Ops! Error accessing DB: %s"

I think moving the message to the client (Glade) will be easier for
translation.

The only thing left to translate would be the mail sent to the user
after it completes the survey (its a php file on people.gnome.org)

Any suggestion on how to translate a web site?

I guess I could add those string in the client and manually move those
translation to my people.gnome.org account

thanks

String freeze break request for nautilus

2008-02-21 Thread Vincent Untz
Hi,

To bring the "Connect to" dialog back, we need two new strings in
nautilus:

 + "Bookmark _name"
 + "Add _bookmark"

Without this, the "Connect to" dialog won't be able to save where people
connected to, which is a regression from previous GNOME releases.

string freeze break request for epiphany

2014-09-05 Thread Emmanuele Bassi
hi all;

I filed this bug[0] for epiphany to update the "incognito mode" string
to include a warning about the fact that browsing incognito won't
prevent other actors from tracking your activity. I think it's a good
thing to notify the users about this detail, and other browsers do the
same.

there are two strings to translate, so I'm asking for a string freeze
break to land this before 3.14.

For the record approval from the i18n coordination team is enough for
string breaks; a notification to the release team is enough.

Hi,
thanks, I made the commits:

Bug 745486 - Correct translatable string typos "an task" and "an memo"
   https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?id=9222173

Bug 745338 - Disambiguate string "_Replace"
   https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?id=43bd4b0

I also noticed that the strings in e-util/e-html-editor-*-dialog.c
used for a window title were mostly marked as N_(), not _(), thus I
changed it in a follow-up commit. I didn't add "dialog-title" context
to them, to not make too many changes in the translated strings.

Bye,

String freeze break request for Polari

2016-05-06 Thread Florian Müllner
Hey everyone!

For the upcoming 3.20.2 release, I would like to include the change in
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=766066, which introduces new
strings:

"Upload “%s” to public paste service?" and
"Uploading “%s” to public paste service …" (in both cases "%s" is a
filename)

I can work around the freeze break by reusing existing strings ("Upload
image to public paste service?", "Paste %d lines of text to public paste
service?" etc.) if necessary, but would prefer the new strings.

As mentioned in a quick chat with Alexandre, I'd be happy to do a .3
release in the future when some translators miss 3.20.2.

Cheers,

gnome-software string freeze break request

I promised in my last email that I'll request freeze exceptions for any

We have a new redesign for the Software Repositories dialog in 3.28 and
I'd like to add one more repository there for GNOME Shell Extensions

[dconf-editor] String freeze break request

2018-08-16 Thread Arnaud Bonatti via gnome-i18n
Hello everybody!

There’s a string freeze running, but I’ve spotted a mistake of my own
in the dconf-editor module I maintain. There’s a new information about
“forced range,” as the range of a numeral key can be forced or not,
and I’ve used an already existing translation for the “forced or not
forced” (“True” / “False”) info. But, this existing translation was
from a completely different context, and the result looks stupid in
some translations (Chinese where I’ve spotted the bug, but that is
probably not specific).

I’d like to correct that by pushing to new strings, “Yes” and “No,”
that would be even better in English and that would solve the
contextual translations problems. Is that doable?

Arnaud

gnome-software string freeze break request

2018-09-14 Thread Kalev Lember via gnome-i18n

Hi,

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/commit/f915a08f5a2d7952bdc44a66e4a21503ef9c5b53

It breaks the string freeze and adds the following strings (mostly
adding singular forms of existing strings):

"%s has been updated."
"Please restart the application."
"%s and %s have been updated."
"%u application requires a restart."
"Includes %s, %s and %s."

String freeze break request for Iagno

2019-09-13 Thread Arnaud Bonatti via gnome-i18n
Dear translators,

The French translation (my natural language) landed in Iagno two days
before the 3.34 release, and it helped me spot a quite imprecise use
of words of my own, that creates some misunderstandings and a bad
labeling for a function of the game in probably more than one
language.

I used the string “Highlight _turnable tiles” in the “Appearance”
submenu of the hamburger menu, and similarly “A flag to highlight
turnable tiles” as a gsettings summary for a key. This function
highlights the tiles *that could be turned by a play* (in reversi,
pieces have two sides, one of your color, and one of the opponent’s;
and you capture by turning the piece); but it has been translated, and
probably in other language than French, by “Highlight playable tiles,”
making what the function does quite confusing.

I’d like to clarify that in the 3.34 branch (I’ve done master first,
but if you have better suggestions, I’ll change it there again also),
by replacing “turnable” by “capurable”, so: “Highlight _capturable
tiles” and “A flag to highlight capturable tiles,” strings that look
definitively more correctly worded and more descriptive. Do you think
that would be possible?

Arnaud

String freeze break request for Epiphany

Hi, I'd like to request a string freeze break to fix the title of the

If approved, I'll backport that commit to the 3.38 branch. Epiphany

It looks like an important fix, so the patch has my approval from a

should be ready to go.
Please let translators at gnome-i18n@gnome.org know (that they should

Why not use "_Login" here instead of "_Authenticate". We use "login"

As a verb (which is what a button label ought to be), it
should be two words: "Log In". (Both capitalized because
we use header capitalization on button labels.)

Probably people already have translated this one correctly. It's only a

It's the first day of string freeze and he asked politely! Approval 1 of

1i8n Approval 2/2.

For bonus point you may s/hardisk/hard disk/ in all .po files as well, but
makae sure you DOUBLE CHECK you only touched the "msgstr" lines! Hint: "svn
diff" is very helpful here. If you're not 100% sure what you're doing, then
please don't do it.
