Re: [GNC] Ver 5.5 for Windows import issue

2023-12-31 Thread Adrien Monteleone

Gyle,

Your messages are not appearing twice for me. You may want to log in to
your GnuCash Mailman account and adjust the preference for mailing
yourself a copy of your own messages. Alternatively, turn off saving a
copy of sent messages in your e-mail client, but you may not want that
for all messages for that e-mail account, so doing so in your Mailman
preferences is likely the best solution.

Adrien

Re: [GNC] Discount / Coupon question - How to apply?

2023-12-31 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Is this screenshot taken while viewing the AR account? That error
message usually means you don't have a split in the transaction that is
AR/AP.

Can you turn on View > Transaction Journal and send another screenshot?

Be sure to commit the transaction first, then try right-clicking to
assign the payment.

If it still won't work, you might have to employ some intermediary accounts.

One option is to create a contra-income (sales) account for something
like "Discounts & Allowances", and then issue a Credit Note for that
Customer with a line item posted to that account. (the Credit Note
itself will post to AR)

Then process a payment and select the Credit Note & Invoice to offset.
('pay' the invoice with the Credit Note)

Then do a manual transaction between the Discounts & Allowances account
and your desired expense account. (moving the amount from contra-sales
to expense)

Adrien

Re: [GNC] Ver 5.5 for Windows import issue

2023-12-31 Thread Kalpesh Patel
For number of the CC issuers, I've observed that that there is subtle changes
to the description in last few months which differs from what was provided
previously. I am seeing this when I download it for entire year and try to
reimport it to validate that all transactions are accounted for. What I have
seen is that the date (or part their-of) is appended that is way far out on
right side that might not be visible in the importer screen. Also there is a
very good chance that the CC issuer re-did the description text as part of
migration and/or merger which will throw off the confidence for the matcher.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I've been away. It is possible
some of the settings you mentioned have been changed, but I'm not sure. Do you
have info for all the default settings, so I can reset? I know some of them
are in the tips that pop up and I can change them, but some of the others don't
say.

As an aside, I see that on my email, outlook.com, all my messages and replies
appear twice. Is that happening when you see them and if so, do you know how
to fix that?

There is a bit of a learning curve with the process of importing files into
GnuCash, and a major part of it is learning how GnuCash reacts to the
particular text that the financial institution uses in the file. I have found
that I need to treat files from different banks quite differently. One FI even
reverses the signs of purchases vs payments compared to the rest of the world
(even from other merchants using the same credit card servicer) in their OFX
files.

OFX/QFX, and QIF files all use the generic importer for the bulk of the import
process and CSV imports use a different process depending the purpose of the
import.

If you find that there are any quirks that appear to be wrong or strange come
back here with specific questions.

[GNC] log file descriptions

2023-12-31 Thread Eric via gnucash-user

Hi,

I am looking for details of the GnuCash log file structure.  In
particular, I see that some entries begin with a "C" and others begin
with a "B". What does that mean.

I also see entries in the log file that do not appear in the data file.
I think that they might have been entries that were actually deleted in
the GnuCash.

I looked on the wiki and could not find any answers to my questions. Any
explanations of the the information in the GnuCash *.log files wold be
greatly appreciated.

Best,

Eric
