Re: [GNC] File Cabinet, 3-Ring Binders, Paper Records?

2024-11-07 Thread ph hermes
like OP i keep paper copies but i sort them some papers you want to
keep for longer (real estate etc) but some like pay stubs you don't
(especially if you get paper copy that shows the whole year. and of
course the amount of paper depends on the complexity of your holdings/
taxes/ business.

i'm in the process of doing another mass purge like you i have 3 piles:
keep, shred, toss. i used to save all my receipts til tax auditing time ran
out i'm not doing that anymore. my grocery receipts aren't relevant to
my tax situation

yes issues like off site for paper matter too, but we all choose our risks.
good luck. it's not an easy process.

Re: [GNC] how to total up all "stock transactions" in a year

if you want to know what is purchase price and what is sell you can also
set up child accounts that contain only that info and if you want a
child account to register the appreciation/ depreciation. it's a bit
complicated but ultimately you can then do the transaction reports for the
info you need quite easily.

Re: [GNC] install 2nd app to start over

thanks phyllis

i'm having a lot of trouble with creating transaction reports. and the
solutions seem to involve going into terminal and getting code to identify
a bug. to do this i'll have to take my laptop to a computer shop or find
someone who can help me. i have not done this as i've been so busy, so i'm
looking for an easier way for me to work around my problem

yesterday i tried to create a transaction report, clicked on options and it
just ignored me. other issues involve not being able to scroll down the
whole list past page 1, etc.

i've been struggling with my transaction reports and can't easily figure
out how to fix things, so i thought i could install gnu cash again and
simply start over (probably a good idea anyway as it's been years on the

start.

can i just install it again? do i need to change the name when downloading/
saving (ie gnucash-2) etc for latest version?

any tips?

thanks.

i don't know where the terminal is or how to use it. i'm assuming it's
something like the old dos screen. i'll look that up.

i clicked on check + repair all, and it blinked off and i have no idea if
it's doing anything. i've clicked on it twice now. i'll try to get a
tracefile.

i tried some other reports. if i just selected a report and left date as
this year it created the report and once up i could scroll. once i selected
the style (ie footer, technicolor) it wouldn't scroll and even when i
clicked back to default it wouldn't scroll. and when i clicked the little x
in the tab it closed down the program. tried this with several reports.

thank you so much.

yes. dragged into applications. yes started from there and from dock. i

today, i started with my file and opened it from there. today i could

i tried to print it flipped me back to the options page.

nothing else seems off on my mac, which is new this year.

does it make any sense to simply start download again?

when i opened the new downloaded gnucash file it opened up my saved file
immediately. is that normal? should i have had to go find the current file?

Re: [GNC] can't create a transaction report

2022-11-27 Thread ph hermes
i installed 4.12 for mac. having same issues. can't create a transaction
report. i can open the initial window, choose options, get to screen to
select options, but whenever i choose an option it blanks off and
eliminates the account tab. and when i click the red close button on the
upper left, the whole app shuts down.

tried a different report while it loaded and was hidden, i could access
it, but i couldn't scroll down to see end of report.

huh.

appreciate any pointers. thanks.

[GNC] can't create a transaction report

2022-11-27 Thread ph hermes
hi all

i'm using gnu cash 4.2 on my mac ventura 13.0, and can't create a
transaction report (which i've done many times before today).

i'm trying to create a report for 2021.

i start the process (reports, transaction reports) then go into options to
select accounts, type of report, date etc.). when i hit any of those
options the transaction blinks out. or it takes 1 selection but not all.
and the general accounts page option disappears too.

i've tried quitting gnucash, starting over (it opens with bad transaction
report options rather than accounts).

i've tried restarting my mac and completing shutting it down and starting
over.

what am i missing? any help appreciated.

thanks.

Re: Sending data to my accountant

2018-04-07 Thread ph hermes
since i have a lot of irrelevant transactions in my account, i prepare
reports that affect my taxes. i have a couple of businesses so i like to
separate them from each other. then i save the reports as pdf files and
send those to my accountant with any cover letter/ extra info.

Re: Printing reports without spliting text across pages

2017-08-09 Thread ph hermes
this happens on my mac too. it's very annoying. i have done the suggestions
others have offered but they are time consuming and a report should break
between lines. i've tried exporting into numbers or excel and then i have
to fiddle with the columns. i've tried shrinking the amount and sometimes
it works and sometimes not.

i haven't loaded the newest version so maybe it's been fixed.if so, many
thanks.
