Re: [GNC] Can no longer print checks

2018-12-03 Thread HB Sidman via gnucash-user
Thanks Ron for the idea. I had 5 drivers (old) that work with my
printer. None worked. Went online to Dell and found an update to 3 of
them. I tried these, 2 had the printer print blank pages and one did not
work at all. So I guess that is progress?

Thanks,

HB

All other applications could print normally. Other NannyPay2/FilemakerPro

I have a HP CP2025DN printer. There were two work-arounds: either print
documents to .pdf format (print to file) then print the resulting .pdf file
from another application, or change the printer driver from the preferred HP
Postscript for Color LaserJet driver to a PCL3 printer control language
driver.

Curiously, a third driver using the PCL6 printer control language (also
compatible with my hardware) produced the same symptoms as the Postscript
driver.

I hope someone can find a solution for you.

I ran the fix - modified for windows 10 64 and Microsoft Edge/IE11.
Never
had the problem with the reports not showing just not printing. It did
not
work.

When I bring up a report or check to print, I clink on "print". This
opens the print window box. It shows my printer as "ready". In the
Page
Range section the Pages area is blank. This indicates there are no
pages
to
print - I think. If I then go ahead and click on print then the print
icon
shows up in the bottom tray. But it indicates there are no documents
in
the
cue. It then goes away after a couple of minutes.

Thanks,

There is a very old bug report about not being able to print in Windows
which has never been resolved because it cannot be repeated. I don't
remember the bug number. Someone found a work-around that seems to make
the problem go away until a re-install of something, either Windows or

There is no problem printing from other programs. Because of my work I
print from 10 or 15 different programs to printers and pdf. I have tried
to print checks and reports to pdf and it will print. However, the
result is a blank page. HB

This is the modified fix that I ran:

- click on Control Panel via Cortana search

 - Click on Internet Options

 - Select the Programs Tab

 - At the bottom of the tab, select Set Programs

 - Select the bottom option "set program access and computer defaults"

 - You are then asked to choose default apps:

 - I used the Reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults -- It did not
work for me

Never had the problem with the reports not showing just not printing. It

When I bring up a report or check to print, I clink on "print". This
opens the print window box. It shows my printer as "ready". In the Page

 HB,

Windows always calls *.chk files 'Recovered File Fragments'

If the files are in the 'C:\Program Files
(x86)\gnucash\share\gnucash\checks' directory they are not fragments but
the files that you want, at least for 2.6.x releases of GnuCash in
Windows. You can open them (carefully) with Wordpad and see what they
contain. If you made custom check printing formats they may be somewhere
else, I have not tried that.

 Hi,

After using gnucash for several years I decided it was time to upgrade
from 2 to 3 a few months ago. Bad decision. If it is not broken don't
fix it. The upgrade went smoothly with no problem. Every function
 worked
both old and new. Until I tried to print a check. At which point
 nothing
happened with the printer. After a 2 or 3 minutes I got a warning
message that my check file was a fragment. I went into the system to
verify that and found that all the .chk files were fragments. I tried
 to
reload new files but they kept being replaced by the fragments.

Step 2: I went back gnucash 2 last stable version on line. It reloaded
without a problem but still could not print checks. Same problem.

Step 3: Loaded gnucash 2 on a laptop that had never had it on it
 before.
Then took a saved file from 3 months before the problem happened and
loaded it. Once again everything went fine until I tried to print. Then
was presented the same problem of .chk file fragments and not being
 able
 to replace them.

Step 4: Using the laptop as my test bed, I removed everything gnucash
from the hard drive. Search the C drive for any thing left and removed
it as the administrator. Then did a search for .chk and found 4 files
buried on the C drive - all fragments. I could delete them but they

Re: [GNC] Can no longer print checks

2018-12-01 Thread HB Sidman via gnucash-user
I started off looking in the the old reports to see if there was
anything and could not find anything about windows and printing
problems. That may be my inability to search properly. So if anyone
knows the fix that you are referring to I hope they will give me the
location.

Thanks for the help,

HB

There is a very old bug report about not being able to print in
Windows which has never been resolved because it cannot be repeated.
I don't remember the bug number.  Someone found a work-around that
seems to make the problem go away until a re-install of something,
either Windows or GnuCash. That work-around may work for you.

Re: [GNC] Can no longer print checks

2018-12-01 Thread David Carlson

[GNC] Can no longer print checks

2018-12-01 Thread HB Sidman via gnucash-user

Hi,

After using gnucash for several years I decided it was time to upgrade
from 2 to 3 a few months ago. Bad decision. If it is not broken don't
fix it. The upgrade went smoothly with no problem. Every function worked
both old and new. Until I tried to print a check. At which point nothing
happened with the printer. After a 2 or 3 minutes I got a warning
message that my check file was a fragment. I went into the system to
verify that and found that all the .chk files were fragments. I tried to
reload new files but they kept being replaced by the fragments.

Step 2: I went back gnucash 2 last stable version on line. It reloaded
without a problem but still could not print checks. Same problem.

Step 3: Loaded gnucash 2 on a laptop that had never had it on it before.
Then took a saved file from 3 months before the problem happened and
loaded it. Once again everything went fine until I tried to print. Then
was presented the same problem of .chk file fragments and not being able
to replace them.

Step 4: Using the laptop as my test bed, I removed everything gnucash
from the hard drive. Search the C drive for any thing left and removed
it as the administrator. Then did a search for .chk and found 4 files
buried on the C drive - all fragments. I could delete them but they
would come right back as soon as I restarted the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I am getting tired of hand
writing all of my checks.

I am running Windows 10 on all of my computers and they are all
completely up to date.

Thanks,

HB
