[Goanet]SAVE CAMPAL SAVE CMPAL GROUNDS

2004-04-17 Thread MARSHALL MENDONCA
Its indeed a shame one of the most remarkable landmarks
in Goa is being sacrificed for the sake of IFFI.
No doubt its a matter of great pride to hold this event annually.
But at what cost !!!
Campal grounds have bred considerable number of FOOTBALLERS who made the
STATE
as well as the Country proud.

Sports is seen as an excellent avenue to chanelize ones energy into
something fruitfull
and worthy but not anymore , parking lots departmental stores cinema halls
these
conumerist structures are taking precedence in its place.

Mr. Parikar an IIT BOMBAY. graduate stooping so low is a disgrace.
I am SURE if sanity prevails and the pros and cons are laid, any RATIONAL
human would
oppose the demolition of this wonderful LANDMARK.

Guess all work and no play has made Mr. CM an anti sports guy.

I hope and pray he realises his folly and GIFT the PANJIMITES a renovated
sophisticated
OLYMPIC stadium.
I think we should alll pray the rosary for our CM which would help him to
make the
RIGHT discissons in the interest of GOA and the GOANS.

AMEN.

Sports lovers were shocked to hear that the only football ground at Campal,
Panjim is going to be demolished so as to pave the way for the parking of
vehicles for the feeble few who will be attending the IFFI.
This ground is there since generations and has nurtured many players who
have
excelled not only at the State, but also at the international level.
Further, a
lot of sentiments are attached to this playground due to its adorning
nature and
demolishing this ground for other purpose is to be likened to a man who
demolished a house so as to bring the rich man’s camel inside the house
through
the narrow door. Let better sense and sanity prevail.

The Campal stadium holds a promising future for sportsperson of this
generation
and also for the generations to come and the government in all seriousness
has
to do a rethought to maintain the status quo. Such type of wanton
destruction is
uncalled for and unwarranted.

The conversion of this playground for other purpose should not take place,
so
feel many sportspersons who have called upon me to air their grievances.
Having
represented the State team at the National level in football, I too firmly
endorse the views of the people that the government instead of demolishing
this
stadium should take measures to develop this ground by providing it with
better
infrastructure for the benefit and development of sports in the State.

MPT to come under MMC's watch
--
In a bid to have better co-ordination with different agencies in tackling
dust pollution in the port town, the Mormugao Municipal Council has
set up a committee to keep a watch on efforts made by the Mormugao
Port Trust to control dust pollution.
The panel, jointly headed by Vasco MLA Rajendra Arlekar and Mormugao
MLA Karl Vaz, will meet shortly to take stock of the issue. The panel has
MMC chairperson Milton Baretto as the ex-officio chairman and include
councillors Deepak Naik, Carlos Almeida, Satish Volvaikar, Tara Kerkar,
Felicity D'Souza, chairman of the Coal Pollution Monitoring Committee
K P Rao, Adv Gluck D'Souza and an official of MPT.
Speaking to reporters, MMC chairperson Baretto stated that the different
agencies were involved in the entire operation to control dust pollution and
the newly set-up committee would meet shortly to suggest further
recommendation to MPT."We take this initiative to solve this issue in
greater interest of everyone involved in this trade," stated Baretto and was
hopeful of receiving adequate support from the Port authorities.
Coal Pollution Monitoring Committee chairman K P Rao, who was invited
by the MMC to discuss the issue on dust pollution, stated that the port
authorities have taken measures to implement the recommendation which
the committee had advised to minimise coal dust pollution."Considerable
improvement will be possible when coal handling shifts to the new facility
being put up on berths 5 A and 6 A by South West Port Ltd. which is
expected to be commissioned later this month," stated Rao and added
that all precautions have been taken to control the generation of coal dust
at all handling points at these berths.
Elaborating on the recommendation of the Coal Pollution Monitoring panel,
Mr Rao stated that seven recommendations made by the committee were
followed by the Port authorities. The recommendations include reduction
in height of coal stacks, stocks be brought to reasonable level, and area
of 100 metres kept clear from IOC compound, water spraying be improved
with different agencies attending separately to discharging points, heaps
and internal road, dedicated concrete roads be constructed and kept
clean by using mechanical suction sweepers. He further explained that the
committee had advised the Port to inspect the trucks carrying the coal
and those found unsuitable to be sent back and at the same time to reduce
dispatch by road so as to minimise spillage on roads.
Other recommendation include two 7.5-metre high masts to spray water
over the heaps over a radius of 40 metres be erected in the coal handling
area and planting of trees and supplementing water supply by the use of
recycled water in an ongoing process.Representative of Mormugao Port
Trust, Engineer Joseph Silveira brought it to the notice of the councillors
the various measures being continuously taken to contain the dust pollution.
He stated that Port authorities held meetings regularly with Coal Pollution
Monitoring panel. "The situation in the Port and its surrounding areas is
substantially controlled and is within the permissible limits," he claimed.
Mr Silveira said the Port has taken measures to contain the coal dust.
Sprinkling of water continuously on coal stacks and on the roads in the
port area while two high mast sprinklers have been installed for sprinkling
of water in coal yard. He further informed the councillors that to maintain
the roads in clean condition, Port had already deployed two road sweepers
and the stack height of the coal is also being maintained at less than
6 metres high and added that coal is stacked away from the compound wall.
Meanwhile, the president of Save Vasco Concerned Citizens Committee
Adv Gluck D'Souza, has strongly objected the inclusion of his name in
the so-called MMC Coal Pollution Monitoring panel in his absence and
without his consent. He said at the joint meeting with MMC councilors,
MPT officials, Goa Pollution Control Board, Govt appointed Coal Pollution
Monitoring Committee & Save Vasco Concerned Citizens Committee,
on April 7, at Municipal Hall, Vasco, called by MMC chairperson only
views were expressed on the fast spreading coal dust pollution. Mr D'Souza
said that their was no formation of the MMC Coal Pollution Monitoring panel.

Stars attend nuptials for a change

by Gerard Fernandes
A galaxy of India's stars arrived in Canacona for a function on Wednesday
and the event had nothing to do with the Lok Sabha elections. Politicians,
business tycoons, media barons, medical specialists, fashion gurus and
sportstars came to attend the wedding of Raghu Marwah and Shradda Suri,
daughter of Lalit Suri, Chairman and Managing Director of The Grand Group,

entertainment was provided by the Vyas brothers, well known musicians

The guest list comprising the cream of Indian society began arriving in the

wedding rituals that took place during the last couple of days.

landings with the high profile guests. Some of the Goa-Mumbai flights
were also directly flown to Delhi with the guests.
Editor of Punjab Kesri, Ashwani Kumar Chopra who is provided with
special Z category security due to terrorist threats was also spotted
out while being closely surrounded by his Black Cat commandos.
Steel baron Laxmi Mittal arrived early this week for the big wedding
and left on April 14. The steel baron, the richest Indian outside India,
Mittal now lives in North London. Ispat has plants in Mexico, Trinidad
and Tobago, Canada, Germany, Ireland and the US. He also has private
steel interests in Kazakhstan and Indonesia. He also has interests in
cable television and launched one of the most popular Asian channels,
B4U in the UK.
Leading journalist Prabhu Chawla, editorial director of the India Today
group and recipient of the Padma Bhushan early this month was also
a known face among the long list. Chawla, considered as one of India's
finest political journalists and known for his sharp political analysis and
investigative reports, left on Thursday afternoon.
Another famed journalist from New Delhi, Star news person Rajat Sharma
formerly with the Star News top-rated Aaj Ki Baat was also present for
the wedding.
According to Anjali Chaterjee, GM marketing promotion, there were
around 600 plus guests from New Delhi, Mumbai other parts of the country

Recipe for MACCHI Tikka Serves 2-3

1/2 pound CHICKEN breast diced

[Goanet]Dear Godfrey Gonsalves Re: Archbishop's Installation, yet again!

Subject: Dear Godfrey Gonsalves Re: Archbishop's Installation, yet again!
  To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

My dear Friend,

At the risk of boring our readers, I feel compelled to return to this forum on
the above subject. The only reason, again, is to safeguard the truth.
Incidentally, safeguarding the truth was the only motive of my initial response
to your Report on the Installation of the new Archbishop of Goa. I had no
reasons to antagonize you, although I admit that the only COMMENT I made
(about your use of the non-existing word "penital") might have been uncalled
for. I apologize for it. The other submissions were only CORRECTIONS of
factually wrong reporting, with some extra pieces of information thrown in . as
a bonus.

For brevity sake, I will tackle only three points dealt with by you in
your "Clarification by Gonsalves," dated 3rd instant. And, this time, please
forgive my language!

1. Godfrey: "Much of what has been clarified in this report by Fr Pereira
ought to have come out by way of proper arrangements viz; a running commentary
or a detailed programme circulated before hand to all not as a post mortem
report." . "There was no commentator ---to narrate either in Konkani or
English ---the sequence of events .. Many did not know what was happening The
brief itenary (sic) was in short supply"

REPLY: First part: A Commentator (Fr. Simon Fernandes) was permanently posted
at a mike stand and he gave an excellent commentary of the whole Liturgy,
specifying WHO was doing WHAT at different points of time. I see now that Fr.
Simon's only fault was that he spoke in Konkani, a language that perhaps Mr.
Gonsalves does not understand. In any case, no reporter would have stated
that "there was no commentator ---to narrate either in Konkani or English ---
the sequence of events" - unless he/she was stone deaf! Second part: A
detailed programme was handed over to all the journalists/media persons who
took care in contacting our Diocesan Communications Centre (Fr. Olavo) well in
advance, and not just before the ceremony, as Gonsalves seems to have done. In
fact, the Centre held a press conference three days before the event. That is
how all the local newspapers that morning (even before the celebration had
begun) specified that the Nuncio (and not Abp. Raul Gonsalves) would lead the
new Archbishop to his chair and that Fr. Jose Remedios Fernandes (and not Fr.
Rodrigues) would read the Papal Bull. If Godfrey had only read the papers that
morning!

2. Godfrey: "One could not decipher whether "presence" near the only celebrant
is different from being main celebrants."

REPLY: The "concelebrated sung High Mass" took place at an altar placed a few
feet away from the vantage point where Mr. Gonsalves says he was posted, behind
the Chief Minister. (By the way, that was not the place allotted to the media
persons!). And the Nuncio was at his seat far behind, near the old altar table.
The Nuncio, therefore, was nowhere "near the only celebrant." Besides, since
the Mass was in Konkani, rendered in the clear and unmistakable voice of the
new Archbishop, even a blind man would not have thought, much less reported,
that the Nuncio - a Spaniard -- was the main celebrant!

3. Godfrey: "Tabernacles as a rule are always at the centre == correct me if I
am wrong -- that this one was on the left is news to me - I have never been on
a guided tour of the Se Cathedral."

REPLY: In a confusing third paragraph of his report, Godfrey states that the
dignitaries were led "to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel." The statement is true.
But, if this was a real eyewitness report, Gonsalves must have seen that the
Tabernacle in the Cathedral is not 'at the centre,' but on the left side of the
nave. (More than once, the thought crossed my mind that Godfrey could have
prepared his Report from the comfort of an easy chair in his living room, while
following a live telecast of the ceremony or with the help of a
brief "itenary," whatever he means by that!)

COMMENTS:

1. It is interesting to note that, in his initial report, dated March 23,
Gonsalves lavishes kudos on Fr. Olavo Velho Pereira when he writes: "Fr. Olav
Velho Pereira (and others) deserve full praise for their flawless organisation
of the three hour function." The same "Fr. Olav" becomes now an easy
scapegoat for Godfrey's sins of omission! Incidentally, I have mailed to Fr.
Olavo a copy of Gonsalves' last posting on the Installation. And I have
arranged that my present posting goes just ahead of the reply Fr. Olavo intends
to send to Goanet, for our readers' easy cross-reference.

2. The seven points I chose to correct in my earlier posting of March 26 are
only 50% of the f

Hi, I have a plan to come to Goa in September and continue with a natural
health project I started a few years ago. Basically I'd like to run a drop-

colloidal silver, ayurvedic herbs, urine therapy etc) and publish a
monthly magazine/newspaper (dealing with healthcare and Indian culture
etc) to be sold around the resorts.
I'd appreciate any tips/links on where I can find more information about
the local laws, obatining a suitable visa etc.

Dr. Josi Colago:
Paraphrasing what der Herr Goebell used to say "If you tell a lie,

NOW.where did we get this business about the Mangalorean Holocaust?
I have to ask myself: IF Mangloreans were persecuted by Catholic
(Portuguese), WOULD they remain Catholics and WOULD they retain
Portuguese
surnames until 1947 - at least?
As far as " SAINT" TIPU SULTAN is concerned, I wonder what the Tiger of

was given to war with the Marathas.

Gilbert's response:
I was wondering when the true scholar Dr. Josi Colago would step in the

[Goanet]Shrine to St. Francis drawing faithful: The Arizona Republic 17 Apr.

Headline: Shrine to St. Francis drawing faithful
By: Angela Cara Pancrazio
Source: The Arizona Republic, Apr. 17, 2004 at

 Excerpts:

They come alone or by the carload. They hear of this holy place tucked away
in south Phoenix through friends and family, a tradition passed from one
grandmother to the next. They zigzag down a dead-end road, dodging potholes.

Once inside the little whitewashed adobe, their pilgrimage is over. Their
ritual begins. They kneel and kiss the forehead and feet of St. Francis
Xavier. All this happens every day at San Francisco Xavier Mission, where a
life-size papier-maché-and-cement replica of the saint is stretched out to
look as if he has been laid to rest here.

This ritual has taken place for nearly a century along South Mountain Avenue
near 24th Street. Rooted in the Catholic religion, the mission is homegrown.
In 1912, Francisco Vasquez, a native of Mexico, a cattle puncher and
rancher, built the tiny chapel in honor of his patron saint.

St. Francis Xavier is revered worldwide, especially in the Southwest and
Mexico. That's because St. Francis Xavier was the patron saint of The Rev.
Francisco Eusebio Kino, the Jesuit priest who, in the late 17th century,
introduced Christianity to the far reaches of the Spanish Empire, what is
now southern Arizona and northern Sonora.

The faithful believe that there's a direct link between Kino and St.
Francis, and that when Kino passed away, St. Francis went with him, even
though St. Francis Xavier died in the 1500s and is buried in Goa, India.

...bouquets of red roses placed on the saint's brown gown show the adoration
of the pilgrims. Dozens of snapshots and handwritten notes are scattered
across his body.

[Goanet]Got fish? cows eat herring for new milk

2004-04-17 Thread Sachin Phadte
Cows are vegeterian animals. The cause of the mad cow disease is strongly
suspected to be the addition to the cattle feed of the internals of sheep,
internals which would otherwise have been a waste. The objective was to
reduce the price of the cattle feed and there was also an expectation that
the growth of the cow would be faster.

I hope similar thing will not happen in this case too.

Sachin Phadte.

Got fish? cows eat herring for new milk
Wed 14 April, 2004 06:24 AM
By Roberta Rampton
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) - Some landlocked Canadian cows are enjoying a
little seafood with their hay and grain so they can produce a new kind of
milk being touted for its benefits for the brain, eyes and nerves. The milk,
produced by herring-fed cows in Ontario, provides a fatty acid also common
in salmon, trout and mackerel to diets of people who don't eat enough fish,
said Larry Milligan, a researcher at the University of Guelph, which
developed the milk.

Thanks for the above statements. The readers of Goan cyberspace can read
Mohan Prabhu's entire article for themselves and other hard facts IF AND
WHEN PROVIDED by any other poster. Let's leave the descriptive opinions
to the linguists and those that enjoy speechifying. :=))

In case cyberGoans want to know what the hullabaloo is all about, here
is the first paragraph copied from the article from the original author.

"CAPTIVITY AND EXILE IN SERINGAPATAM.

IN 1784, THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY WAS ALMOST WIPED OUT FROM THE FACE OF
CANARA, (emphasis mine) the brunt of which was borne by the people of
Mangalore, by Tippu Sultan, Young and old, men, women and children alike
- variously estimated from a low of 30,000 to as high as 80,000 - were
rounded up by Tippu's soldiers, assembled in the town of Mangalore and
other coastal towns, and marched on foot across the Western Ghats - some
unruly ones in chains - to Seringapatam 100 miles away." Mohan Prabhu.

Holocaust Ethnic Cleansing . Reservations Concentration
Camps. To the many individuals (vast majority) and their families who
died during this interment, it is little consolation what 21st century
scholars (cyber-Goans) call their plight and suffering. The same applies
to the native Goans (Hindus, Muslims and Catholics) who care less what
and how we characterize the Portuguese Inquisition in Goa. Some of
today's Goans and Indians tend "to use" history for their vested

[Goanet]Goan Easter in Vashi - Mumbai

2004-04-17 Thread Eddie
Goan Easter in Vashi By: Roopa Raveendran
http://web.mid-day.com/metro/vashi/2004/april/81270.htm

It was Easter Sunday and Goa Feast, the quaint restaurant in Sector 11,
Vashi, was bustling with activity as customers trooped in for their Goan
Food Festival. Reasonably priced at Rs 150 per plate, the gourmands relished
a typical Goan fare. Goan families especially welcomed it.

“Usually it’s the just three of us for Easter. Instead of spending it at
home, we decided to go out and enjoy ourselves,” say the D’souza family,
residents of Sector 4, Vashi.

“This place serves authentic Goan delicacies,” says Colin D’souza. The D’
souza family loved the fare so much that they had their Easter lunch and
dinner at the
restaurant.

A big bunch of youngsters was also bingeing at the food festival. “We are
regulars here and frequent this place at least once every two weeks. When we
learnt of the food festival, we didn’t want to miss it. The chicken xacuti
and surmai are absolutely out of this world,” says Sara R, a Vashi resident.

Another Goan food gourmet Mathew Easo often orders from Goa Feast. “I often
order food from Goa Feast. I especially enjoy their stuffed chicken and love
their curried prawns too,” says this Vashi resident.

As part of Easter celebrations, the menu promised a delectable array of Goan
delicacies. Amar Kumar and Maheshwari Golconda, the proprietors, had charted
out the entire menu in typical Goan style. The customers were welcomed with
sol kadi, made from kokum juice, coconut milk and chopped garlic, which
gives it a somewhat pungent taste.

Served chilled, it was heavenly for parched throats — the main course of
chicken xacuti in a thick gravy, coconut-based curried prawns and golden
fried surmai served with rice and typical Goan pav proved divine.

But vegetarians weren’t disappointed either! The two vegetarian side dishes
comprising dry moong dal and vegetable korma were equally delicious. We
polished the meal with Goan layered cake and vanilla ice cream and all we
could say thereafter was susegad!

promoting "pan-Indian factors" and rewriting history books. Mr Karnad said
that "Goa: A Daughter's Story", a book by Maria Aurora Couto, aptly shows
how societies are able to adjust and also warns in what way the concept of
development could be destroyed for sheer carelessness. Mr Karnad, who

Gilbert,
Sure, stay at home - that's your prerogative and I respect your feelings.
But as for me, I'm off to vote..!

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you that " we are just about fed up of
lame duck choices being offered to us by the Congress and other parties, who
reveal their bankruptcy of ideas, people, and ideology, time and time again
at every election." But then consider - on the other hand, we have another
party who is definitely not bankrupt of ideology, but is systematically and
intelligently putting into place a very dangerous gameplan that could have
serious and far reaching repercussions for the country.

A long time ago, when I got involved in an agitation, someone told me
that I was "rolling with the pigs".
But I believe that only when we step down from our pedestals and are
prepared to be part of the hurly burly of human life with all its ups, downs,
muck, dirt, hopes and betrayals, can we hope to make at least a small impact
in changing the system for the better. After all, just by living in society,
we become part of the system, either by omission or commission. In the
process of course, we may make mistakes and blunders because we are only
human. The only thing is that one's intentions and motives have to be above
board. But of course,
each one must follow his inner guide.

Regards, Diana

Further to Sarabond's posting:
1. In what looks like his impending withdrawal from the horse race, Dr.
Wilfred D'Souza, the North Goa Candidate who was supossed to address a
manmoth rally 4.00 p.m. at Tercene, Aldona and there after at the Moira Club
at 6 p.m.'TODAY' Saturday, the 17th. April, 2004, has developed cold feet.
Nevertheless, never mind if Dr. and his allliance jing-bang develops cold,
hot or numb feet, and never mind Tercene Aldona, the Moidekars are going
ahead with the meeting at 6.00 p.m. with or without Dr. Wilfred D'Souza and
thereafter be entertained with the Tiatro at 7.30 p.m.
All are cordially invited.

It is further believed that the residents of Khorlim, Mapusa had a very
harrowing sleepless nite with tremendous fireworks and cracker bursting all
nite from one so called semi-official residence at Khorlim, probably to
celebrate the Mr. Vajpayee's call to the North and South Goa prime horses.

[Goanet-news]FEATURE: Tiatr -- an unlimited engagement

2004-04-17 Thread Frederick Noronha (FN)

TIATR - AN UNLIMITED ENGAGEMENT

By Cynthia Gomes James

[April 17 is being marked in Goa as *tiatr day*]

Take a hot social issue. Blend it into a plot with fair measures of
romance, harsh injustice, sensational plot twists, sudden illnesses,
shocking deaths, bawdy comedy routines, crime and retribution, and about
15 songs. Remember to include a rousing patriotic song about Goa. Be sure
to throw in a wicked mother-in-law and two daughters-in-law: one devious,
and the other docile, plus a poor virtuous widow, a villainous rich man, a
hilariously dimwitted domestic servant or country cousin, and a pious
parish priest.

Pick a cast of dramatic actors who can carry a tune, and comedians with a
flair for slapstick and credible cross-dressing. Stir in a Konkani script
peppered with flowery metaphors, broad innuendoes and show stopping jokes.
Mix in melodramatic acting, vibrant sets, costumes in the latest fashions,
and a live orchestra. Top with a title that is bold and direct. Voila!
You have a recipe for a tiatr: the medium of folk theatre that is one of
the most savoury and enjoyable tidbits of popular Goan culture.

Konkani tiatr made its debut on April 17, 1892 with the staging of
"Italian Bhurgo" at the New Alfred Theatre (presently the Police
Commissioner's Office) in south Bombay. It was directed by Constancio
Lucasinho Caridade Rebeiro from Assagao, and had an all male cast of five
actors who played nine different roles.

Due to then prevalent social taboos, women did not venture onto the stage,
and male actors did the honours. The first actress to perform in a tiatr
was Regina Fernandes who made her maiden appearance in the year 1904.
Incidentally, Regina Fernandes was the wife of Joao Agostinho Fernandes,
who wrote the first original tiatr script for "Sundori Cavelchi" in 1895,
and is remembered as the father of Goan tiatr. In the 112 years since
"Italian Bhurgo", Konkani tiatr has established itself via amateur
endeavours in the villages of Goa, as well as through professional
presentations by tiatr troupes in packed auditoriums in Goa, Bombay,
Mangalore, the UAE, Kuwait, and the UK.

The word tiatr is one of many Portuguese words imported into Konkani
usage, and literally means theatre or loosely, a play. The art form of
tiatr that was born in Bombay, evolved from the folk art forms of zagor
and khell, which were less developed but popular forms of drama in Goa. A
traditional tiatr consists of six to seven acts known as pordhe
(curtains), each about fifteen to twenty minutes long. These acts contain
songs called cantos, which are related to the story and flow in and out of
the spoken dialogue.

In between the pordhe are inserted two or three songs called cantaras,
performed in front of the main curtain. The cantaras do not always
pertain to the story, but are a means of preventing boredom, providing
comic relief and time for the changing of sets, costumes and makeup. Often
these cantaras are used to deliver social messages or satirical asides on
current events that may not fit into the storyline of the play.

My enjoyment of Konkani tiatr began when I was a little girl growing up
in a nook of south Bombay that had a large Goan population. I remember
many a Sunday evening that my parents, neighbours and I spent in the
auditorium of St. Mary's High School in Mazagaon, being regaled by the
sizzling hit tiatr of the season.

The excitement would begin a few Sundays earlier outside local churches,
when the promoters would distribute colourful playbills to the faithful,
after Mass. In Goa, the pamphlets were, and still are distributed in a
more theatrical fashion.

Pickup trucks armed with loudspeakers clatter through little towns,
blaring popular Konkani music and chotrai (announcements) about the
forthcoming tiatr, while scattering a wake of multi-coloured flyers that
tease the eager hands of the children chasing behind.

After one grabbed a playbill, the ritual of assessing the entertainment
quotient of the promised fare would begin. The first clue would come from
the name of the tiatr: names like "Pangddo" and "Divorce" left one in
little doubt as to the theme of the drama.

Then fans would look for the names of their favourite tiatrists, some as
common place as Remy Colaco and Saby Fernandes, and others as quirky as
Bab (little boy) Peter, who you should know was a grown man then, and
Prince Jacob, whose claims to royalty are entirely self assumed. Other
stage name peculiarities of the Konkani stage included the practice of
abbreviating one's middle name or last name as in Betty Naz, Betty Ferns,
Minguel Rod, Alfred Rose, and Chris Perry, and also the habit of using
one's first initial and a last name, as in C. Alvares and H. Britto
