Re: [Goanet] Cross Pollination
Dear GoaNetters, I am glad to report to you all that I took out one target this morning. This target had been bothering me on an external list for some time. I had been requesting these people to remove me from their list for weeks, but they wouldn't. After the action I took earlier today, I have been given to understand that I would not be bothered again. Good job. I appreciate that. I'd like to state once again, that a debate that starts on GoaNet (at least where my response is concerned) would stay on GoaNet. Do not ever try to drag me elsewhere - my retaliation when I respond back, would be catastrophic. Now, coming to Senhor Helekar, I am not about done with you just yet. We have finally come full circle :) The initial debate on GoaNet started with the thread wherein you claimed how great India is and how great scientific material India has contributed to the rest of the world. I disagreed with that assertion, which is when you decided to forward my response to your own little private list. The members of this list, then went on to SPAM me endlessly. Now that you admit that you got dole from the US federal government agency (National Science Foundation) to run your little birdie experiment, I'd like to request you to return the grant back to the agency. If India is so great, what are you doing here in the US? Why are you using my money (my taxpayer money) to further your knowledge? Why don't you go back to India and beg with the Indian government for the grant? Let me repeat this once again, I have set you in my cross-wires as the next target. You are messing with the wrong guy. [Goanet] FOUR-LANE ROAD AT CURCHOREM FOR MINING
a delegation of locals met churchill and explained the problems and submitted following memorandum. he said: cm is interested in this widening. he is under pressure from mine owners. cm told him that this is infrastructure and he is not involved. he asked people to talk to cm. he questioned when all mlas are with their subjects why curchorem mla is deserting voters. ** *GANV RAKHON JAGRUT MANCH, **CURCHOREM* House No. 104/2, Bansai, Curchorem, Goa 403706 Phone No. 0832-2652808 19th July, 2010 Shri Churchill Alemao Hon. Minister for PWD Government of Goa Panaji, Goa SUB: Withdrawal of notification for land acquisition No. 23/2/2010/RD dated 22/6/2010 for widening Tilamol-Cotarli road Dear Sir, We were surprised as well as disappointed to learn about the subject notification in newspapers. Surprised because our MLA has always been assuring us that the widening of the said road is not on cards and disappointed because of the blatant disregard shown by the government to the local opposition to the widening - Village committee constituted for finalizing the Regional plan had rejected it. It was opposed in the Xeldem gram sabha on 8/11/2009. It was also rejected by Cacora-Curchorem Municipal council vide resolution 165 dated 5/4/2010. We oppose the said widening because of following: 1)PWD has not done any traffic survey. Our survey shows that 4-wheeler traffic (non-mining) on this section is 30-50 vehicles/hour against the two-lane road capacity of 150 vehicles/hour. Thus the existing road can suffice for next 15 years. The government has provided for Rs 500 cr in the budget for dedicated mining roads. 2)Since the widening is for mining, it is not public purpose. As such acquiring land under the guise of public purpose is illegal. 3)Spending public money for projects meant for mining is unjust. 4)Curchorem is 5th most populated municipality of Goa with a population of 30,000. Kakoda health centre and other two major hospitals (Dr. Sonu Kamat and Dr. Satish Kudchadkar) are right on this road. Twelve schools with 6000 secondary and 3000 primary students commute on this road. No where in world, dirty cargo like iron ore is hauled through the heart of such a town; not even in Bihar and Jharkand. The government is well aware of the air and noise pollution and traffic hazards mining trucks cause. 5)The land losers will be subjected to immense losses in many ways. Many people would lose houses, shops, compounds, trees, Crosses, Tulsi-vrindavans, and parking spaces. In some cases the plots become too less in width - set-off requirement as per development regulations makes it un-developable. Housing societies, at the time of re-construction will get reduced FAR leading to many internal problems and fights. Making poor people lose for the benefit of wealthy miners is injustice. 6)The widening is not between two towns of Sanguem and Quepem. Widening of Tilamol-Cotarli stretch is like a bottle with two necks. At both ends at Quepem and Sanguem there will be 3 km 2-lane roads with single-lane bridges. This is retrograde planning on part of PWD engineers. 7)The road being widened is not the main road connecting Curchorem to Margao/Panaji/Vasco. The road via Chandor is the main road being 5 km shorter compared to the road via Tilamol. The widening of Tilamol-Cotarli road is thus also a case of misplaced priority. Road via Chandor would also save country of precious fuel and foreign exchange due to lesser distance. 8)Agricultural lands being acquired are tenanted and are under Command Area Development Authority (irrigated by Salaulim) and such lands can not be acquired. 9)Mining transport is already affecting public health, sanitation, agriculture and horticulture. The effect is seen 2 to 5 km on both sides of the road. Widening will lead to increased ore movement and consequentially more pollution (both air and noise) leading to grave consequences to public health and horticulture of 3 people residing on both the sides of this road. 10) Though this is mining oriented project and that too in thickly populated town, comprehensive (four-season) EIA-EMP has not been conducted. This is necessary considering the revelations in the Economic Survey of Goa 2009-10. During the three years between 2006 and 2009, Paddy output reduced 20% from 221K tons to 177K tons. Vegetable produce reduced 32% from 83K tons to 58K tons. Mango yield reduced 56% from 27K tons to 7.5K tons. Cashew nut crop reduced 52% from 27K tons to 13K tons. 11) The widening is beneficial for a miniscule section of miners whereas the nuisance will be to the account of 3 people along the road and another 2 residing away from the road but where the fugitive dust flies due to wind and turbulence. We therefore request you to shelve the widening project and de-notify the subject land acquisition. Thanking you Yours faithfully For Ganv Rakho

Hinduism, someone wrote a while back on Goanet, is by and large a theistic religion. He is right. And, I might add, so is Christianity. They are both dualistic. God and You, I and God, and so on. You can also add Islam and Judaism to this list. Prayer, of course, is an expression of this belief in duality. Buddhism says there is no God separate from us. Or there is no God, period. Tao says the same, too. Just an observation, a small point. Celebrate life! * * * IS YOURS one of the stories of Goans on board the S.S. Re: [Goanet] All Religions for Human Integral Development
From: "U. G. Barad" I fully agree with the essential force of the Vatican message to the Hindus on Diwali. Under the circumstances, I wonder if there is any need for the Vatican to continue with a programme of conversion that they are undertaking. **Dr.U.G.Barad, It is a pleasure to have a dialogue with you again. For some reasons it was interrupted, but the Church has to be in dialogue with the world religions and with the atheists and agnostics. 1.Christian religion is a missionary religion, therefore nobody can stop it. "Go into the whole world and proclaim the good news to all nations" (cf.Mk 16:15; Mt 28:16-20), commands the Founder of Christian movement. It is the Call to Universal Mission. It is the duty of every Christian to witness to the Person of Jesus, to Truth. Conversion is the work of God in human hearts as well as that of human freedom. Christianity means transformation of hearts, of the society, it is human integral development. Christianity is behind the civilization of love, civilization today. While all work for the welfare of the world, for a better world, it is the right of each and every human being to choose the religion of preference. It is the duty and right of each one to witness to the values and to proclaim them to others, it is the right of each one to opt for what one prefers. Nobody should object. Everyone should be open to research and reflection. 2.Christianity can become incarnate in any culture. As Paul VI puts it: "In the mind of the Lord (Jesus of Nazareth), the Church is universal by vocation and mission, but when she puts down her roots in a variety of cultural, social and human terrains, she takes on different external expressions and appearances in each part of the world" (Evangelii Nuntiandi n.62). The ideal of a genuine synthesis of Christianity and Hindu religion was most vigorously pursued by Brahmabandhab Upadhyaya (1861-1907), a disciple of Keshab C.Sen. Upadhyaya joined the Catholic Church and remained proud of being a Hindu. He and his companions proclaimed: "We are Hindu Catholics". He also supplied a rational basis for the claim by pointing out that the Hindu dharma has two branches: -samaj dharma and -sadhana dharma. The samaj dharma is concerned with social rules like the daily bath, abstaining from eating beef and drinking liquor. The sadhana dharma is concerned with attaining salvation. Hindus, he maintained, are bound by the samaj dharma, but as far as the sadhana dharma is concerned, a Hindu can follow any religion. He found that the more strictly he practised the Catholic faith, the better he grew as a Hindu. 3.Not a few Reformers in India adopted some Christian principles. Thus, Ram Mohan Roy was impressed by Christ's insistence that the love of God must find expression in service of one's fellowmen; Mahatma Phule declared Christ's teaching on the equal dignity of all men as the truth on which society must be built; Pandita Ramabai saw in Christ's attitude towards women the hope and salvation of Indian womanhood; Mahatma Gandhi pointed to Jesus as the Prince of Satyagrahis and wrote: "I shall tell the Hindus; your lives will be incomplete unless you reverently study the teaching of Jesus" (M.K.Gandhi: The Message of Christ, Bombay, 1963, p.42). Swami Akhilananda stated: "The teachings of Jesus are applicable in our daily lives; we still further to say: "When they are not applied, life is not worth living" (Swami Akhilananda: Hindu View of Christ, New York, 1049, p.139). It is, therefore, not surprising that some great Hindus saw the best hope of India's greatness and prosperity in the total acceptance of the Christian Religion. They were convinced that Jesus helps Hindus to become better Hindus and shows the way to make India a better place to live in. Regards. [Goanet] Goa govt can declare subsidy of 10 lakh rupees per family per year!
Every Goan family to receive 10 lakh rupees every year! Based on Sesa’s recent profits, few mining families in Goa earn 2 crore rupees. There are 2 lakh families in Goa. If mining profit is distributed to all Goans, every Goan family will receive 10 lakh rupees every year. It is revealing that what social services the mine owners are doing and getting big report in news papers is eye wash. It is like 100 rupees for a common man. Seby This is in response to - On 22nd July, Rajendra Kakodkar wrote: Roshni Rego died because Digu and his team of 5 strong government employees could not take corrective action to prevent flooding of road-under-bridge, which gets flooded every monsoon. When small infrastructure needs of thousands of students cannot be satisfied, what moral authority/right does Digu have to even talk of Sea-Links, 4-Lanes and 6-Lanes? Government in this year’s budget has provided Rs 1200 crore as salaries, pensions and perks to government servents. Considering that there are 2 lakh households in Goa, each family bears a cost of Rs 60,000/- a year for services government gives us. Do we get services from them commensurate with what we bear? Has not the time come for citizens to rise and dictate what Digu must do and what Digu must get done from ministers, bureaucrats and babus? Last time it was Goa Bachao Abhiyan that shook the foundations of the goons. But this time around it is going to be different. Too much Mining money is floating around. The windfall comes without commensurate pain or sweat and therefore flows liberally to buy politicians, media, editors, reporters, pseudo-activists/NGOs, lawyers etc. Incidentally, yesterday Sesa declared Rs 1300 crore net profits for April-June 2010 quarter. Since there is negligible export in June, it is effectively 2-month profit. Extrapolate and you will arrive at Rs 6000 crore as profits for full year on 9-month operation basis. Sesa is one-third of the legal Goan mining sector. This gives Rs 18,000 crore as profits of legal mining sector. Illegal mining could be Rs 2000 crore more. Compare this with Goa’s budgeted revenue, which is mere Rs 2700 crore for this year. Rs 500 crore required for bypasses is mere 10 days profit. Why can’t Digu (mines minister for 11 years continuosly) force bypasses on miners? Mineral Foundation is hogging media space claiming CSR expenditure of Rs 20 crore - a profit they earn in mere SIX HOURS! * * * IS YOURS one of the stories of Goans on board the S.S. [Goanet] A THINKER TRANSLATED: Noted son of Goa made available to its people
Passionate and Unrestrained Author: José Inácio Candido de Loyola alias Fanchu Loyola A THINKER TRANSLATED: Noted son of Goa made available to its people By Dale Luis Menezes Writings on Goa – in any language English, Konknni or Portuguese – are seldom popular and discussed or debated. They are published, they adorn the bookshelves of Goa’s scant bookstores for a while and eventually they are forgotten and if Goa’s history is recorded in Portuguese then we should consider it lost owing to the meager translations and the lack of command of Goans in that language. The reasons for such misfortune are many and varied; this however, is not the place for their enumeration or discussion. The fact that I am reviewing a book published in 2007 should be a case in point. ON FANCHU LOYOLA’S WRITINGS It was a few months ago that while in Panjim, I picked up a copy of José Inácio Candido de Loyola alias Fanchu Loyola’s essays titled Passionate and Unrestrained translated by journalist Alexandre Moniz Barbosa. Personally, I had heard of Fanchu Loyola as someone associated with Goa’s freedom struggle but anything more; I was blissfully unaware. Fanchu Loyola wrote in Portuguese – a language in which he had mastery and fluency. He was an outspoken and fierce critic of the Portuguese government – the one under Salazar especially. He was arrested and incarcerated in Fort Peniche jail in Portugal for fifteen years. The writings of Loyola reflect problems society faced such as alcoholism, casteism and corruption. Reading through his essays, one gets the impression that what really bothered Fanchu Loyola – apart from the corruption in the administration – was alcoholism and casteism: evils that still plague the Goan society. The essays are divided in two parts: Socio-Religious and Socio-Political. In the former section, Fanchu Loyola’s essays are deeply rooted in Catholic teaching. However, he was not communal but rather advocated the universal principles of love and brotherhood (enshrined in Christianity as well as other religions). It was also interesting to read his musings about the Universe – its origin and purpose. I should particularly mention one of his essays on the New Year’s Eve where he personifies the “Old Year” as an old man who walks into his office and when the clock strikes twelve (the New Year) the old year vanishes into thin air. The old man is a gentleman (of British temperament, to borrow Fanchu Loyola’s words) and cordial; he makes Loyola realize the importance of Time. In this essay Loyola displays innovation and imagination. He also shows a deep understanding of such abstract concepts like happiness and renunciation, humility and charity and the like. He was a seeker of truth; he wanted to know the mysteries of the universe. He had a deep love and compassion for the poor. More than anything, Fanchu Loyola has to be singled out as a social reformer. In the Socio-Political section Loyola is as eloquent as in the Socio-Religious one. He never hesitated to take sides in the elections of October 1926, as he asked the people to elect Mr. Mariano Martins over Mr. Prazeres da Costa. Fanchu Loyola also expresses some terse and stern views on the Press Laws and the colonial politics. He minces no words in pointing out the flaws and short-comings of the Portuguese administration. ON BARBOSA AND THE TRANSLATION I must confess that my first impulse in picking the book off the bookshelf was not so much due to the indomitable personality of Loyola but because it was a translation of a potential supplement to the history of Goa. As a person interested in Goa’s past (and a student of archaeology also), I regret for not being able to read the voluminous records left by Portuguese, who were arguably the best record keepers in this country. Many a time, a (present day) historian of Goa is left at the mercy of an English translation of a Portuguese record. The reason why Alexandre Moniz Barbosa should deserve our praises and approval is because he has used his fluency in Portuguese and English to make available certain writings that otherwise would have gathered dust for posterity! Not many Goans know Portuguese and under such circumstances we just hope that the tribe of the likes of Barbosa grows and prospers. I too had the experience of finding a long lost writer and writings (in this case it was my uncle) and the joy is exhilarating when the task is completed! (See my article Destiny’s Book, GT dated 28.08.2008) May I suggest to you Mr. Barbosa, to take up translation as a full-time hobby with a book to your credit every year? I hope that it is not too much to ask! Another thing that I liked about the book is the retention of the original essays in Portuguese along with their English translation. In my opinion it would reduce the lacunae caused due to arbitrary interpretations as very often happens unwittingly in translations. However, in

To Goanet - These are views of Chorão, Divar and Ribandar that were not possible until now - unless you shot them from a helicopter or an aeroplane. They were taken from the topmost (8th) floor of the latest atrocity taking shape in Ribandar. So egregious is this concrete turd, it can be seen from almost everywhere. From Panjim, from Mandovi bridge, from Old Goa, from Chorão, from Divar, from Britona, from St. Estevem. Each apartment here comes in at 85 lakhs a pop. That is, it is aimed not at Goans, but at some uncouth Delhi pissant armed with ill-gotten moolah or a pan-chewing Marwari. The next time you hear anything about the Regional Plan or about 'saving' Goa from any GBA rat, feel free to vomit on him (or her). I staked the place the past 7 days, but was thwarted by the prevailing hazy conditions. Today the skies partially opened up and the haze subsided. By no means were conditions ideal for photography, but you have to make lemonade with the lemons you've got (especially if you are leaving Goa tomorrow). I am reluctant to make a post out of this shoot on my photo blog because although the views were fantastic, it was a terrible feeling standing atop this filthy concrete pile. [Goanet] World Konkani Cultural Festival
World Konkani Cultural Festival “Vovllik” extended to Goans The curtain raiser, “Vovllik” meaning invitation, of the ‘Vixv Konkani Sankrutik Mahamell’ or World Konkani Cultural Festival organized by Mandd Sobhann Mangalore, was held at the Conference Hall of Ravindra Bhavan Margao yesterday, (18th July 2010, at 7.30 p.m.) with an impressive ceremony in the presence of Digamber Kamat, Chief Minister, Francisco Sardinha, MP South Goa, Damu Naik, MLA Fatorda constituency, Luizinho Faleiro, former Chief Minister and host of dignitaries from Goa as well as from Mangalore. In his speech Shri. Digamnber Kamat congratulated Eric Ozario and his team for organizing such a massive cultural festival of 25 days in the months of November/December 2010 in Mangalore. Stating that such an exercise can forge unity among Konkani people scattered in different states of India, he assured all possible help from the Goa Government in making the festival a great success. Shri, Kamat who is also the Chief Patron of the World Konkani Cultural Festival hoped that along with Konkani culture the festival will highlight Goa and its culture too. Shri. Francisco Sardinha, MP stated that such festivals involving the youth will definitely go a long way in inculcating Goan and Indian culture among the new generation. Damodar Naik MLA appreciated the efforts of Mandd Sobhann for organizing such massive cultural programme in Mangalore and wondered whether the Konkani cultural centre is shifted from Goa to Mangalore. Shri. Luizinho Faleiro recalling his association with Eric Ozario and Mandd Sobhann stated that Goans irrespective of any differences should support such a massive cultural fest whole-heartedly. On behalf of Mandd Sobhann Mangalore, Digamber Kamat, CM and the Chief Patron of the Festival extended the “Vovllik” of the World Konkani Cultural Festival to 28 participating groups from Goa and to the people of Goa in the true Indian tradition. Earlier Shri. Eric Ozario welcomed the audience and outlined the aim in organizing such a massive 25 days Konkani cultural Festival. Later Tomazinho Cardozo, while proposing the vote of thanks stated that only Konkani song, dance and music has the potential to bring about the much needed unity among the Konkani people. Navnath Khandeparkar and Melita Pinto compeered the function. Cultural programme of music, songs and modern & folk dances staged by Nach Sobhann from Mangalore, Kharvi Dance Troupe from Bhatkal and Mother Theresa Musical Band from Honnavar mesmerized the audience with their excellent performance. * * * IS YOURS one of the stories of Goans on board the S.S. [Goanet] Sidhanath Buyao bags prestigious GULAB AWARD as Best Singer 2009
Sidhanath Buyao bags prestigious GULAB AWARD as Best Singer 2009 Goa-world.com Team congratulates you ! To wish Sidhanath Buyoa, visit http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=605948&id=1659425819#!/photo.php?pid=605948&id=1659425819 After the death of Ulhas Buyao, his only son Sidhanath Buyao, has stepped into his big boots quite effortlessly. Having inherited his father’s musical talent and having imbibed the love and passion for Konkani from his childhood, it was quite natural for Sidhanath to take over the reigns of Buyao Theatres Goem and he took to it life fish takes to water. That he is the worthy successor of the legend Ulhas Buyao was established when Sidhanath Buyao was honoured by the Home Minister Ravi Naik at the grand Goa Police function for creating music for Goa Police Band for the first time since Goa’s liberation and had its own police force in 1961. Mandd Sobann has also appreciated Sidhanath Buyao’s albums. Sidhanath Buyao also bagged Best Music Composer Award 2009 given by Goa Tiatra Academy for his Album Valley of Colorz . The Goan Tableau at Republic Day Parade 2010 won 2nd Prize for which foot tapping Music was composed by Sidhanath Buyao . Being proficient in different musical instruments, blessed with a mellifluous voice and having kept abreast of the technological advancement like computer software, sound technology, Sidhanath has a definite advantage while preparing his albums which are truly futuristic – rooted in the soil but soaring towards the universe! Without doubt, Sidhanath is poised to scale great heights as he has everything going for him and he is bound to be a shinning star given his passion for music. That he has carved out the right path for himself and Buyao Theatres Goem is clear from his body of work at the moment. While continuing with the tradition of Buyao Theatres Goem of having stage shows, Sidhanath has also ventured into the new available avenues. He has created the music for many a jingle aired on the airwaves of various FM channels and also on television. The signature music for Margao Utsav Festival, Rangotsav, Hai Hai Lokshai for Prudent Media was prepared by Sidhanath. Sidhanath Buyao has also produced music for Konkani movies like Jaagor by Damu Naik (MLA Fatorda) Zhuzari by Suhas Sawardekar, Prince Jacob’s Rodonaka, besides providing the background music for Shakshi, Rodonaka, Moneak Zaap Suttli . http://www.buyao.in/sidhanath-buyao.htm http://www.buyao.in/buyao-videos.htm http://www.buyao.in/buyao-video4.htm * * * IS YOURS one of the stories of Goans on board the S.S. [Goanet] Cityzen's humble request to MLAs.
Respected Editor, This is w.r.t.letter by shri Rajendra Kakodker. Somehow there is no limit to selfish ends of all MLAs without any exception. It's like their business to fool the man on the street and accumulate wealth for the next elections. In fact GOA is a state that can set an example of "ideal" state of Bharat. But since independence in 1961 things have been deteriorating as the elected MLAs are goans and their secretaries and the bureaucratic set up makes them helpless. There are Goans, both in Christian & Hindu communities who feel that they were better off during Portuguese rule. If the goans were assisted by ,goan officials and secretaries, perhaps things would have changed. It is better to be late than never.Centre could definitely give a try. With best wishes, Damodar Bale, 11-Winton Road,East Brunswick, NJ,08816, USA. * * * IS YOURS one of the stories of Goans on board the S.S. I have not copyrighted or copylefted the term "GOAJITO", so feel free to forward to other Goan forums or post on the Herald or Times of India online editions. If Gilbert does not like SPAM, that is understandable but he should not shout as that could lead to high blood pressure, hence the urgent need for "GOAJITO". In the "old days" SPAM and KRAFT cheese was highly sought after, but is now readily available in Goa. However, for religious and dietary reasons, SPAM may be considered unwanted. In which case, consider sending BHINDI. Not just vegetarians, but others will appreciate it - if cooked in a tasty manner. Of course, some will say 'DO NOT BHINDI ME' since the vegetable does have an odd texture and taste. In Cecil Pinto's Facebook in South Goa, the phrase "DO NOT BHINDI ME' may catch on as something unwanted. You never know. But you read it here first. [Goanet] Ghatis protecting the Protector!
To Goanet - This morning I was at Tadmad in St Inez, paying my customary visit. This is where I grew up from virtually day 1. Tadmad itself refers to an old coconut tree - long gone - that arced horizontally over the road. The area now is defined by the banyan tree and the small idol of Shankar in its shadow. This has been a sacred space for decades, inspiring devotion from both Hindus as well as Catholics. To us in the erstwhile Cacule Chawl and surrounds, Tadmad was part of our DNA. Our ground (where the Fire Brigade Station now stands) was the Tadmad Ground, our club was Tadmad Sports Club, our Narkasur Nite was hosted under the aegis of Tadmad Sanskritic Mandal, our address included "Tadmad" (that was all that was needed for the post office), and so on. The shadow of Tadmad loomed large in our lives and the lives of most St Inez-kars. Every occasion, every event, would be preceded by a 'gaaraane' to Tadmad. Tadmad was our Protector-in-Chief. So this morning I was surprised to find this fellow loitering at Tadmad. He said he was from Assam. I asked him what he was doing here. He said he was "security." My father was with me, and when we heard this we didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Tadmad, our Protector, now needs a ghati from Assam as security? On further questioning, it turned out that the "security" bit was a lie. The fellow has been loitering there collecting money deposited by passers-by. This is what has become of our villages and our towns now. Ghati grifters have taken over. These guys have no business being in Goa (the excuse is that they are citizens of India blah blah blah). They provide negative value to Goa - sucking up space and contributing to paan spit on our pavements not to mention morning sh*t to our shoreline. But the fault lies squarely with us Goans. We have become callous to our surroundings, and have left our doors unsecured. Other than JoeGoaUk there was not a single response to assisting me on the Panjim URL. Rest easy guys, for the garbage will one day pile up at your own doorstep, and it will be too late to do anything about it. r * * * IS YOURS one of the stories of Goans on board the S.S. [Goanet] Pacheco arrested in forgery case
Can it be called arrested when he is already under police custody? And if the arrest is related to January 2009 what was Goa Police due for over 18 months? Is this not misuse to power to settle political scores? Just as tourism minister is now charged with abetment to suicide and forgery we have a new case against Goa PWD & Chief Minister. There is case of financial mis-management and faulty planning of the underpass which is forcing the children to risk their lives resultant, Young Roshni lost her life. I see there is case to arrest those ministers who had planned this tragedy. Goa PWD & Chief Minister are both responsible for this tragic death. Congress is after Reddy bothers for Illegal mining, what about Digu as Mining Minister? He too is indulging in illegal mining by encourage illegal mining as the result Goa is losing huge revenues and natural resources. What about Monster Ravi's? Will they be arrested? Re: [Goanet] Pacheco arrested in forgery case
Rico, You have raised a very pertinent question. When the person dies, every one is in a hurry to put the person six feet underground, with love and over too much of added affection. Because no one wants to bear the stench of death. So it is with Mickky, unfortunately. It is another thing altogether in 'putting the 'cart' before the 'horse' or the 'horse' before the 'cart'. :-) Cheers floriano goasuraj 9890470896 www.goasu-raj.org for expanded scroll-up party presentation on the home page. - Original Message - From: "Frederick Noronha" To: "Goa's premiere mailing list, estb. 1994!" Re: [Goanet] Reworking the script - Dr Oscar Rebello (Herald)
Dr. Oscar Rebello, with due respect and salutes to him, we, at Goa Su-Raj Party must say that he is a novice at talking about Goa's politics and Goa's politicians, especially the new generation type such as the GSRP. And therefore he should refrain from making a full blown 'apolitical joker' of himself If he wants a political 'super script' in these 'easy to get anything at all' internet Google days, what he has to do is to hit www.goasu-raj.org and this 'super script' of the to be 'block-buster' and the 'box office hit' will scroll-up in front of his eyes. All he has to do is, put on the reading glasses, if he must, and let it sink into him. Goa Su-Raj is offended by his likening it to the BJP or the UGDP. It is because of these and other nincompoops, that it has become it's raison d'être in the first place. For his good information, Goa Su-Raj does not associate with the likes of G7 AHs . Never has. On the contrary there was a time when GSRP forced the electoral process to go ahead in Taleigao, not allowing the King of the ' Loan Sharks' to be the politically unopposed King of Taleigao in 2005 and make a travestry of Democracy in full view. And BTW this GSRP cannot give entry to this breed into the Party. Ten solid years is the proof of this resolve. If Dr. Oscar Rebello must poke fun at GSRP, he is best advised to first do his homework well, or poke fun elsewhere where the field is much too open for him to do so. The GSRP demands a full and proper apology from Dr. Oscar Rebello in the same spirit that he has written this article. He must understand that we. at GSRP, are not in the 'political business' to be slighted by 'apolitical jokers' who have publicly confessed of having been taken for 'jolly good rides' by these same politicians he is poking fun at. [Goanet] I think therefore I bees
I think therefore I bees Aunties chatting on Saxtibook By Cecil Pinto The Beta Version of Saxtibook, a special version of Facebook for South Goans, is going through its trial phases. Typical potential users, three aunties from Salcete - Felcy, Rosy and Joaquina - are learning the intricacies of Saxtibook with a hands-on approach. Here is an excerpt from their chat sessions, with Facebook’s software developer Flavia Lobo playing guide. Rosy: What means “BM :-) :-)”? Flavia: That’s an example of an emoticon. Rosy: Moti konn? Who bees fat? Flavia: No! No! By using symbols on your keyboard you can convey moods or emotions. For example “:-)” means happy and “:-(” means sad. Or for example “:-o” could convey surprise and “:-D” could convey laughter. Most emoticons have to be looked at by tilting your head sideways to the left. Felcy: Ya! BM Rosy: Again she’s doing for it. What means BM? Flavia: Felcy has ‘coined’ a new shortcut acronym. BM stands for “Best Murre!”. Some common Internet slang acronyms used while chatting are, FYI – For Your Information, BTW – By The Way, IMHO – In My Humble Opinion and LOL – Lots Of Laughter. Joaquina: You knows what we call somebody who does LOL all the while? Flavia: No, tell me. Joaquina: Lollo! Flavia: That’s cool. BRB. Rosy: Bee arr bee ? What means that? Felcy: She means she Bees Right Back. She bees busy with some other work. Rosy: Ok tell me Joaquina have you heard about the Mickey case? Felcy: It makes me ROFWL Rosy: I thought it was Ratol? Felcy: No men. Roll On The Floor With Laughter Rosy: That woman is dead and you are laughing? Felcy: I am laughing at the people of Benaulim. They votes for criminals every time. Rosy: Do you know Lydia joined the Mickey Support Group on Saxtibook. Joaquina: How much you have to pay? Rosy: You are not paying. They pay for you. Felcy: This I likes! BM :-) Rosy: Have you seen Mickey’s Profile. His Relationship Status changes every day. Married, Single, In a Relationship, Dating, Engaged, It’s complicated… Joaquina: How he can change his profile if he is in hiding? Flavia: I’m back girls. Doesn’t matter where anyone is hiding. You can access Sashtibook even from a cellphone. Rosy: What hiding? Mickey came to notary office in Margao, no? Joaquina: I heard he’s roaming around openly in Margao wearing a burqa. Rosy: I saw two women in burqas in Benaulim yesterday. Joaquina: Was one short and the other tall? Rosy: Yes! Yes! Joaquina: It is them. Mickey and Lyndon! Joaquina: S! Don’t talk about Lyndon. He’s online Rosy: So what happens? Joaquina: He can’t see what we are chatting? Flavia: Of course not! Felcy: You know so many people wants to be my friends! Rosy: Really? Felcy: Ya! Everyday I am getting six to eight Friends Requests. Joaquina: You are knowing these people? Felcy: No. Joaquina: Maybe they wants to be your friend because you put a photo of Aishwarya Rai as your profile photo. Felcy: And so many people are inviting me to Events. Flavia: Do you have to pay to enter those events? Felcy: I don’t think so. Flavia: Do you have to pay for food and drinks? Felcy: I suppose so Flavia: Then those are not invitations. They are advertisements. Those are not friends they are marketing people. Joaquina: What is all this about Mafia Wars and Farmville? Flavia: Those are third party games developed for Facebook that you can play in Saxtibook too. It’s very easy to understand. Did you see the news report about Churchill and Valanka distributing fertilizers to farmers in Benaulim, which is Mickey’s constituency? Felcy: Ya! BM! Flavia: That’s Mafia Wars and Farmville. Two for the price of one! Joaquina: All these shortcuts like ROFWL and ASAP are strange to us. Can we make our own shortcuts using Konkani? Flavia: Sure. Why ever not? Felcy: PBH Rosy: Kitem? Felcy: Pot Bhor Hansta Flavia: That’s the spirit! Joaquina: How about ANB – Amka Naka Bangoddi Flavia: Cool! Felcy: I likes this! Words cannot describe the deep loss of Adv. Leo Velho who was a thorough gentleman, with an incredible drive. His excellence lay in his kindness, honesty and dedication. His deep rooted smile with soothing words relaxed his clients who thronged his office with their troubles and anxieties, seeking his advice, trusting him knowing very well he will do the needful. A family friend who has always been there for us through thick and thin, advising and guiding us in our difficult moments. Its been two years since I last met him and am very greatly shocked at his demise. He will always be remembered by one and all in Chinchinim as someone who has engraved his wonderful smile and humble words into the hearts of us all. " I don't know...some say life is too short, others say it is too long, but I know that nothing that we do makes sense if we don't touch the hearts of others." My heartfelt condolences to his wife Rica and his family, may the Lord give them the courage and strength to bear the loss. May his soul rest in peace. Gr8 and hats off to you M D for exposing the malpractices of the Clergy and the Parishioners in Mumbai who for a fist full of dollars have lost their self respect and integrity. I say this coz I was deeply wounded by one of the Parish Priest of Mumbai, when I approached him for the mortal remains of my beloved Mother.their approach towards the weak and helpless is very disgracefultheir basic knowledge of love, truth and humanity has forgone and lost in concrete jungles of Mumbai, one can only see their nefarious activities soaring and escalating in recent years...they need a little or a huge shake up from concerned Parishioners to bring them down from their high pedestal. God have mercy and come to our Aid. Gina Ferns - Original Message From: M D Sent: Fri, 23 July, 2010 11:10:32 AM Subject: [Goanet] SUNDAY CATHOLIC'S & MUSLIM BOMB's... The Muslims are a very brave people they will not rest till they have taken revenge for the vandalization of mosques and attacks on muslims. To take revenge for the Babri Masjid Demolition, the 92/93 anti-muslim riots in bombay and 2002 anti-muslim riots in Gujarat the Muslims with the military/logistical/explosive support from Pakistan Army/ISI have March-1993 onwards carried out many bomb blasts in different cities of India especially the financial capital of India i.e. Bombay due to which the right wing hindu groups have STOPPED vandalizing mosques and stopped attacking muslims. This does not mean that Christians should also take the help of Pakistan Army/ISI to carry out attacks and bombings in Indian cities to take revenge for attacks on Christians, vandalization of Churches & graveyards & desecration of mother mary & jesus christ statues in various parts of India. It is the responsibility of the Indian Govt. to protect the human rights, civic rights, job rights, land rights & religious places of Christians in India. Christianity is dying in Europe and the people in Vatican are too old and secular to revive Christianity in Europe. It would be advisable for christian missionaries operating in India to go to Europe and revive Christianity there instead of indulging in fraudulent conversion activites in India which has created communal Disharmony between Christians and Hindus in India. Here in Bombay many Catholics regularly attend Sunday Mass and also do novenas but nothing seems to change. The family problems remain, ancestral property disputes remain, financial problems remains, jealousy in neighbourhood remains, health problems remain, Alcoholic problems remain. So what is going wrong ? Maybe Catholics in Bombay are not living a life based on what the Bible teaches infact a vast majority of the catholics in bombay have never read the Bible. There are some catholics in bombay who are only seen in the church during Christmas, easter, ashwednesday, allsoulsday, weddings, baptisms, funerals. These catholics have no interest in going sunday after sunday to church to attend Sunday mass. Have you ever read in the Bible that if you skip next week’s church service, or revival meeting you have denied the Christian faith? No, the Bible nowhere says such a thing. However it does say that if you do not take care of your household financially you HAVE denied the Christian faith. A few decades back poor catholics in bombay had tremendous respect for Catholic Missionaries & Clergy that respect does not exist anymore because the catholic missionaries are helping poor non-catholics instead of poor catholics and the clergy have stopped using church assets/resources/properties for the benefit of poor catholics. Had it not been for the greed of the Catholic Clergy – Parishes in Bombay would have had a sizable Catholic population. There are some catholic activists in bombay who in order to remain in good books of the clergy are opposing the 30% reservation for catholics in catholic schools. Most of our catholics have to beg and plead with the clergy to get their children admitted in catholic schools if the 30% reservation is implemented there won’t be any need for our catholics to beg and plead with the parish priests. But since the policy of the clergy has always been to educate the rich and the influentials especially the upper/middle class Hindus due to which the clergy and some of the traitors in the catholic community are opposing tooth and nail the 30% reservations for catholics. Catholic schools in bombay are filled with upper/middle class hindu students there are very few catholic students. Millions of upper/middle class hindus who were educated in catholic schools have prospered in life and they should be grateful to the catholic clergy. Every week there is news about clergy getting involved in child abuse, clergy misusing church funds, clergy siphoning off money received from sale of church properties. Due to fear of being ex-communicated from the church most lay Catholics prefer to remain silent and ignore the corrupt activities of the clerg

[Goanet] Does Goa need a mani pulite?
Mani pulite (Italian for clean hands) was a nationwide Italian judicial investigation into political corruption held in the 1990s. Mani pulite led to the demise of the so-called First Republic, resulting in the disappearance of many parties. Some politicians and industry leaders committed suicide after their crimes were exposed. The corruption system that was uncovered by these investigations was usually referred to as Tangentopoli, or "bribeville". [Goanet] Pacheco arrested in forgery case
Goa's former tourism minister Fransisco Mickey Pacheco was on Friday arrested by Margao police in connection with a forgery case filed against him by his estranged wife Sara. Sara, had filed four different cases of forgery against him in January 2009 in which she had accused him of selling her properties by forging her signature. Pacheco, whose police custody expired on Friday, was handed over to Margao police by JMFC. The court had remanded him to 14-day judicial custody in Nadia Torrado death case. The court had remanded him to 14 days Judicial custody in Nadia Torrado death case. The former minister was taken to JMFC by Crime Branch to extend the police custody, which was refused by the court. Instead, the court admitting the petition in forgery case transferred his custody to Margao police. "We will produce him before the court by evening and seek his remand," Police Inspector Santosh Desai said. Anacleto Viegas, lawyer representing Pacheco, has moved three more anticipatory bail applications before the district and sessions court in Margao. All applications are related to different cases filed by Sara including selling of a car by forging her signature. Meanwhile, Pacheco has moved two bail petitions before District court in Nadia death case and forgery case, which would be heard later in the day by Judge B P Deshpande. The former minister was arrested on July 7 in connection with death of his close friend Nadia Torrado. Her mother Sonia and Pacheco's close aide Lyndon Monteiro are also booked in the case. _ Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection. https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?id=60969 * * * Don't miss Selma Carvalho's INTO THE DIASPORA WILDERNESS. [Goanet] Reworking the script - Dr Oscar Rebello (Herald)
*This makes for some interesting comments. The hour of the need is to throw away the corrupt and the trash. Anyone listening and willing to do this for Goa? Please read Dr. Oscar Rebello's article in the Herald. * ** * * ** *Reworking the Script * ** The people of Goa are desperately looking for a brand new script, not recycled superstars, says *Dr OSCAR REBELLO* ** Some of the most successful Hollywood/ Bollywood producers and directors will tell you that there is only one salient magic mantra that makes a movie a blockbuster: “It’s the script, honey.” Actors, stars, music, special effects, publicity, all play their role. But if you have a bad script, the movie just won’t click. Stephen Spielberg, Raj Kapoor, Satyajit Ray and Shyam Benegal are the best protagonists of this theory. They are firm in the conviction that the script was the bedrock of their careers. So watch a ‘Jurassic Park’ or an ‘ET’, a ‘Pather Panchali’, a ‘Bobby’ or even ‘Prem Rog’. The music and the FX was there, but the stars at the time of release were no big names. What made these movies legendary was their script and substance. Then check our very own ‘Satya’ or ‘Ardh Satya’, ‘Manthan’ or ‘Mirch Masala’, ‘A Wednesday’ or ‘Love, Sex aur Dhoka’. Small budget films, unknown actors, no special effects… but the script was king. There could be one valid argument against this theory. How was it that trash scripts churned out by, say, Manmohan Desai or Prakash Mehra, or often Karan Johar, became such resounding hits? A filmsy ‘Laawaris’ or a falsetto ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ or the sickly ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ or the legendary lost-and-found rubbish from Manmohan Desai flicks like ‘Suhaag’ or ‘Parvarish’, ‘Aa Gale Lag Ja’ or ‘Mard’. These were bonafide hits despite shoddy scripts, and the reason for their success was the presence of larger-than-life superstars like Amitabh or Shah Rukh Khan, who could sell this gibberish to the gullible masses only on the power of their performances and undeniable charisma. Therefore, the movie-going public in Goa will forever watch movies and convert them into hits for two reasons: (1) Because the script / screenplay is awesome. (2) Because the superstars have strutted their stuff. And thereby lies another important strategy lesson for our political parties in Goa. Let me elucidate further. In Goa we have the ruling Cong-NCP-MGP combine, which is playing out its script at a feverish pace This script includes rampant mining, crazy-as-a-shark real estate development, a drug / casino / sex-based economy, a pliable police force and, of course, the all-pervasive stench of corruption. Despite this shoddy script that most Goans abhor, their movie features huge superstars in the eyes of the starry-eyed voting public. So with their humungous budgets, their flashy cars, designer bandanas and glitzy ad spends, the Babushes, Vishwajeets, Churchills and Mickkys can sway the public easily, and have them eating out of their hands by liberally signing their autographs on cheques and handing them out. The stars rule, even if the script is a sham. This then brings me to our combined opposition in Goa, principally the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) and the Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP). They don’t have the superstars from the other army and that is why they keep wooing them [the Group of Seven (G7) or whatever], thinking that otherwise they can never get their magnum opus to be a hit. The catch, however, is that the G7 types will join hands with, say, the BJP, if and only if the script were to remain the same. Imagine Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead role in ‘Ardh Satya’…! So the combined opposition’s major dichotomy all these years is that they have been wooing the same maverick, untrustworthy, self-serving superstars, when what they really needed to do was to go back to the drawing board and come up with a BRAND NEW SCRIPT. That is what the people of Goa – whether they lean towards the Congress or the BJP – are desperately looking for: A sparkling, crackling, brand new script, not the palpably nauseating shenanigans of the faux superstars newly bottled up in the same old script! This brand new script must talk and pursue aggressively the issues of sustainable development and environment protection, address the issues of land grabbing and incarcerate illegal slumdog millionaires, tackle head-on the Godzilla of corruption, and defend human rights. If you have a script like this, even without big-budget superstars there are good chances that you could be sitting on a jackpot – a really big one. There are two caveats to this however: (1) There can be no compromises on the script. If tomorrow we have a BJP government in power with some Congress superstar, we can’t be fed garbage that the BJP has now discovered that all the tonnes of drugs they were fighting against was actually talcum powder, or that

[Goanet] SUNDAY CATHOLIC'S & MUSLIM BOMB's...
Due to fear of being ex-communicated from the church most lay Catholics prefer to remain silent and ignore the corrupt activities of the clergy. A few rogue elements who have infiltrated the Catholic religious orders have destroyed centuries of sweat, tears, sacrifice and blood by hundreds of thousands of Catholic priests and nuns. South Indian women, wearing the 9 yard sari to church, covering their head with their 'sari pallu' to maintain the sanctity of the house of God and the sacredness of the liturgical celebration. Here in Bombay women & teenage girls go to church wearing frocks, tight fitting clothes, t-shirts, jeans, skirts there is no dress code here and the parish priests here are also very secular and very jolly good fellows. Catholic Churches, Catholic Schools, Parish Buildings, Parish Halls have been constructed on the lands donated by catholic parishioners as well as money donated by catholic parishioners for construction purpose. Hence it is not the clergy but the parishoners who should be c
