[Goanet] May I request a conclusion to the Aspartame debate.
Dears, Personally speaking, I have learned a lot from this debate. Allow me to summarise: 1: Aspartame is not a medication required for the treatment of any disease process (as of yet). 2: Aspartame is not a prescription substance. 3: Certain individuals (i.e. with PKU) should not be using Aspartame. 4: In regular usage, it has been deemed to be safe. 5: Even so, it is a substance of choice. Nobody forces anybody to take it. Some individuals with diabetes or with obesity choose to add Aspartame instead of sugar as a sweetener to (say) their coffee, others do not bother with either. 6: Those who have concerns about Aspartame should not use it. Some have concerns about the about the amount of insecticide on fruits and vegetables. They might well choose to eat chicken replete with antibiotics and hormones or fish from the heavy-metal contaminated waters around. 7: Even Love and Fresh Air have their side-effects especially in places like Karnataka and Bihar. 8: If some doctors believe that they have a duty to advise their clients re: what they (the doctors) believe to be the truth, they should do so. 9: Modern patients are quite savvy. They check and double chec 10: When a semi-layman like me is presented with information like the one I have been reading, I normally turn to Snopes to sift out the Methi from the Myth. http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/aspartame.asp 11: Sometimes, these frenetic claims were true some time ago but no longer are (as the formulations have been changed - but the chain letters have not bothered to update themselves). http://www.snopes.com/medical/drugs/ppa.asp 12: If however, we are interested in discussing the technical side of matters, I suggest that we first (a) familiarise ourselves with the technology (b) decipher how modern science agrees to accept/publish research papers (c) go right to the source of the studies or publicationsand not to some blogs.before we splash ourselves on the www. have a good one jc

Bosco has already pointed out how misinformation regarding aspartame is being spread in this thread through bogus websites. Dr. Gilbert Lawrence wrote : <……. The question to you, with your psychiatric background: What do we do with difficult cases or what in medicine is termed "resistant subset"? But neurosis patients, specially with personality pattern disorders, having distorted self-image can be difficult and resistant. But applying Dilbert's dictum is not the only solution. One can always refer such patients to another crack scientist; like in the scene below: A timid person enters the consulting room of a psychiatrist and says: “Doctor, I have dual personality.” Psychiatrist: “Buck up my child, have your seat; let’s all four sit down and chat.” Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão.

[Goanet] Piracy
Piracy What’s piracy? In simple words, it a theft or robbery Includes unauthorized usage of material from the net, books, DVDs etc etc The rule is, you are a thief if you steal something no matter how small. Even if you take some thing from the leftover (e.g. dinner table) which otherwise would go into the wastage bin Well, you don’t have to be a Pirate of the Caribbean or for that matter Pirate of Somali. As ‘youtuber’ like me, one can be a pirate knowingly or unknowingly, intentionally or unintentionally, with clean mind or with dirty mind etc Youtube has such a programe/software that can almost instantly scan Your uploaded video contents for matching Ids or contents that belongs to third party or simply pirated. When I got a notification from you tube saying that my ‘Utorda Clip’ has a problem, I said to myself ‘what I have done now?’ At one time, I even doubted ‘Uttordd’ddekars’ Why some one will do this to me? Was the programe there owned by someone as in some Goan bands? I was only putting them on the world map.. and off course, providing a bit of entertainment.. Later on, I discovered I was wrong to blame anyone. It was the ‘sound track’ in tune with which the youngster were dancing on stage belongs to the third party (e.g. record Company) Similarly, a clip that I captured in 2006 on board Sunset Cruise too has a problem The most recent one being ‘Lord of Pearls’ Sept.2010 Even if your video contents or the sound track is of just a few second or even if it is of dead low volume eg. music playing in the background which you may not even aware of etc it can still be detected and you are notified instantly. See, one can still be a pirate innocently Talking about the Piracy that reminds me of a VCD promo Title ‘Piracy’ which itself had contents belonging to a third party See, what I mean? Following is a selection and may vanish if the owner complains Utorda http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ooi5e2bZso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5HTNGVmZBc Salsa dance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXNNTmTn2K4 Cashewnuts lord http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X9bZcm4w1E 2010 Lord of Pearl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg54Nib-3OE 2006 dancing onboard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRrPjRXyQjc I have about 14 of such problematic clips Plus 2 were removed (not by me but by a Goan Band Purple Rain, a clip that was captured during carnival panjim market Feb. 2009). Those are not into internet or those are fairly new to internet, there seems to be a trend or a wrong notion amongst them.. If anyone finds out there are some konkani clips on the net pirated directly from Konkani VCD, for them, the pirate is none other than the JoeGoaUk himself. 'JoeGoaUK' reminds them of internet, that's why. JoeGoaUK may be the first to promote Konkani video on the net but he definitely has no dirty mind particulaly when it comes to our own Goa or Konkani. In other words, he is not a hypocrite. 'If Calling a thief a thief really hurts the thief, how much it would hurt someone who is not really a thief? to continue...in Part II

[Goanet] Message 9,dated today, Obama's visit to Mumbai and Shivsenas Fascism.
Respected Editor, This letter by Mr.Jorge Desouza of Mumbai is really detailed summary of the democracy of nation named "INDIA i.e.BHARAT".Acyually it was the mischief played by the former rulers.Partition was not at all favoured even by Mahatma Gandhi. But the cunning nature of the former rulers managed to serve the ends. Results are certainly seen now. The newly formed nation,Pakistan had military rule for most of the time and the main land India continuing still with illiterate voters. Human values are totally lost. The illiterate politicians are expoiting the sentiments of poor voters with any subject.OBAMA perhaps, realises the problems as the Americans have won their independence by fighting against the British rule. INDIA i.e.BHARAT has almost all the world religions and languages. There was no religion for this nation. They followed a particular way of living. So culturally all the states are thoroughly united and the language of culture was the language of "GITA". The 'tolarent' nature of this nation definitely differed from the 'fighter'nature of the American people. OBAMA surely realises that.As he fights still for Human Values. So shall we foresee some changes with OBAMA visit to this nation? With best regards, Shyam V.Bale, East Brunswick,New Jersy,USA.

[Goanet] Of voters, and voting
"83 per cent vote in Valpoi," this was what the newspaper headlines screamed in Goa on Tuesday morning (with some little variation). As a journalist who covered elections in the past, it often struck me as strange as to how so few seem to be casting their votes in the morning, while by late evening, the figures invariably pick up to very impressive totals. For their part, the government agencies do a good job of making sure that media attention gets focussed on the arithmetical issues at the micro level rather than macro questions. Looking at Valpoi, one would think that the politician(s) involved were great statesmen. Or even that it was a very polarised election. Would anyone there have an insight into how such high numbers get reported, after almost every election in Goa? Is this statistically possible, assuming that there will be some percentage of disinterested voters, some who are not present, and others who might not support one or the other alternatives "offered" to the voter? This is not an issue of Valpoi alone, but of most constituencies. (In Valpoi's case, we are told that the Murmune booth recorded 93.3% voting! The "lowest" was at Valpoi itself, with a high "low" of 64.37%). http://oheraldo.in/news/Main%20Page%20News/83-per-cent-vote-in-Valpoi/42079.html Agreed that the poor vote more than the rich in India, a situation quite different from that, say, in the US. But if you looked at the voting percentages in Goa, you could easily come to the conclusion that there is hardly any voter disenchantment or indifference here! Which is hardly the situation... Re: [Goanet] Democracy attains a new low in India
Dear Floriano, These are very salient points and you have my full support in your efforts to bring some semblance of the democratic principals of Government being of the people for the people and by the people. I hope that every Goan who has the well being of Goa at heart turns up and lends their support to the movement by turning up for the gathering on December 19 2010, and that on election day, they all turn up to vote (THIS MUST BE STRESSED AS IMPERATIVE TO OUR SUCCESS) and throw out the corrupt and selfish people who are currently in power in Goa. A movement which engulfs all well meaning Goans surely must prevail against an autocratic and corrupt lot who are bent upon enriching themselves at the expense of Goa and Goans. I humbly suggest that as in the U.S. and Canada, persons who are elected to office declare their Assets and liabilities and those of their closest relatives on assuming office and on relinquishing office in order to achieve transparency. This is important as any discrepancies discovered on relinquishing office must be explained. Any unexplained or fraudulent or wishy washy transactions must be investigated and if necessary the individual must be prosecuted in order to dissuade future electees from indulging in dubious transactions. Wishing you every success on December 19 2010. RegardsManuel (Eddie) Tavares. - Original Message - From: "floriano" To: "Goa's premiere mailing list, estb. 1994!" The MOVEMENT will have to be standing on its own i.e. self- financed, without begging and borrowing from shady mine-owners; industrialists and business people; if it does not want to be burried a 1000 feet underground. 17. If it is the political party that has been considered ok to be supported by the MOVEMENT, then its candidates must be whetted by the MOVMENT. It is however, a forgone conclusion that most political parties will abstain from the CONVENTION of this MOVEMENT; not because of anything, but because they do not possess any sort of presentation to present. The National Parties in Goa are run through telephone hot-lines. And those which are not the National Parties will not know what a presentation is all about, forget about giving one. 18. Coming back to December 19, 2010, let the whole of Goa wear T-Shirts and Caps purchased from the MOVEMENT'S outlets ( for a decent/nominal amount just a little over the cost of providing one) and flood the Panjim's Azad Maidan and trample it like it has never before trampled upon since 1961. Let the people sport a 'sticker' on their vehicles which again will cost a nominal amount to cover the printing plus a little bit left-over for the MOVEMENT'S finances. & last but not the least 19. Let this MOVEMENT be the 'PPS MOVEMENT' - The MOVEMENT of the PEOPLE of Goa FOR POLITICAL SANITY. If this comes about, then there will be no holes left in Goa where the Alibaba and his 40 thieves could ever hide. T

All your points are well taken. Further down allow me to give examples related to art/design--style, etc. But before that there are three points made above: "ignorance, carelessness, or rebelliousness" As the years go by more things are revealed of the processes, learning methodologies, interactions with fellow musicians of our Film Music directors. Again all your points are well taken, and perhaps the language on that site brought to your mind the range you present in comprehending Hindustani music. Yet, in any case there will always be classifications. So although the intent is to shape a tune, others who are often equally good or sometimes even better--are placing the tune in a category. That's all, in my reading. Of course this may be done in a few of ways, including less bluntly/ stridently/ perhaps with less angst (although not in this case). To those who know a lot, and can make distinctions--Its a whole other thing (terms of comprehension as well as identity shaping) than to those who are attempting in pinning things down while develop an understanding of the forms--and they are many. Subsequently variations, subtleties, nuances--will enter their domains. To my attempting an extrapolated analogy, here: My paintings are essentially drawings to me and also within contemporaneity, but many artists balk at me placing them in that category. For them they cannot be drawings. What many see as calligraphy I see as drawing (in my case, and intent) and these are only broad categories. Here too, as in my case--the intent is perhaps not to "concoct"--other than when I illustrate--which more often than not is a painting/drawing/print--although done to illustrate a topic--the subject having been internalized and which externalizes as artistic labor. But I am fine with it being referred to as an illustration. In fact my entire formal training happens in Design. Now could that be the reason for my seeing things the way I do and I mean strictly with the visual arts. When it comes to methodologies of seeking, using and the application of materials its a whole other things. Another example: Years ago while at FIT, I wanted a student to get a better grip on drawing the hand. He said it was his style, the poor drawing to which I responded that he was messing himself up. His work had not developed into a style, it was someways off from getting there, and it would be helpful to him if he did a few studies of the hand (I would help)-- then see if he felt propelled towards the style he thought he was seeing, and whether it was valid (to him). In any case, he could continue attempting to fashion a style (a bane of illustration) and it would become quite automatic (considering the reality of getting ready for the market which was Toy Design), once he had that armature under his belt--in his grasp. Of course this is not true of everyone, including forms of art out of mainstream education. Sometimes Classical singers like Pt. Kumar Gandharva (whom the puritans may > not accept as a strict classicist!) oddly brought in an un-prescribed note > into > the raga. There is a story how once he sang a note that HAD TO BE AVOIDED > (varjit) > while singingthe particular rag
Re: [Goanet] Democracy attains a new low in India
Dear Manuel, Your post has wound me up to do what I promised to do. Therefore, here it is. 1. Goa 'NEEDS' a Political Solution. 2. This Political Solution must be spelt out first so that it is swallowed 'bait-hook & sinker' style by the People of Goa who seem to be fed-up of this MESS. 3. As an alternative to all existing Political Parties, Goa needs to field all 40 candidates who have never been elected before... aka fresh faces. 4. It does not matter if they are Saints or Devils. The Political System which will be spelt out will not allow itself to be bent or marginalized. Therefore, the Devils will fly into outer space leaving Saints and mostly hypocrite Saints to be dealt with. 5. Before too long, Goa needs a massive people's MOVEMENT which can safely swallow their pride and come to terms that Goa requires 'political sanity' like 'yesterday' 6. This massive MOVEMENT of the people must be like the movement we have seen in the past on 18 December, 2006 at Azad Maidan... the GBA Movement. 7. The closest date for this MOVEMENT to take shape is 19 December, 2010 as there is not much time left until the next elections in 2012 or earlier. 8. This MOVEMENT must have a charismatic MASCOT where the people will leave everything and just flock in numbers and nod their heads, a mascot that will remain the mascot until the end of the MOVEMENT, no matter what, and no matter who tries to pull it down. 9.Immediately after the 19 December 2010 , there must be a full-fledged CONVENTION of the people with invited DELEGATES et al. 10. All of Goa's political Parties must be invited for this CONVENTION to give their PARTY PRESENTATIONS, warning them that their survival in Goan Politics henceforth will depend on this PRESENTATION,. 11. The CONVENTION shall deliberate for one or more days (if necessary) and come out with its finding before the CONVENTION is closed as to which political party in Goa it will support OR if it will go ahead and take the job of doing the necessary by itself at the next elections with all 40 candidates. 12. If this be the case, a very very strong signal will have been sent to the people of Goa that they can now expect a real change. That is because one or two well meaning and self-less persons cannot clean the ROT and there are chances that the ROT will engulf them too. With all 40 in the fray, chances are that there could be a chance to get absolute majority, to say good-bye to blackmailing coalition politics which only works for itself and for their kin and friends. 13. Those who get elected shall be controled by this people's MOVEMENT on the basis of the blue-prints which has been accepted by the people --- which by-the-way will be the ' SYSTEM OF FUTURE GOVERNANCE OF GOA'. The recalcitrants shall not only be dropped like hot potatoes but also be shamed and blacklisted for life. 14. The 'No Second Term' which will be enforced with an iron hand shall see to it that vote-bank politics will vanish in thin air for once from the sacred Goan soil. 15. Soon after the Convention - the MOVEMENT shall identify and bring in people who will take the lead (for once) ... who have been long time activist for 'good-effective-governance'. These people should come forward automatically to say 'yes, I am ready to contest' if the MOVEMENT wants and if they do not want to be considered 'hypocrites'. The final choice of candidates shall be made as according to the Wwell laid-down procedures of short-listing and choosing, without hurting anyone. 16. The MOVEMENT will have to be standing on its own i.e. self- financed, without begging and borrowing from shady mine-owners; industrialists and business people; if it does not want to be burried a 1000 feet underground. T

[Goanet] LANDMARK RESOLUTIONS PASSED AT CANSAULIM GRAM SABHA
*LANDMARK RESOLUTIONS PASSED AT CANSAULIM GRAM SABHA* The very well attended Gram Sabha on 17th October 2010 held at the Panchayat Ghar Cansaulim amidst tight police security went off peacefully. It may be recalled that the Gram Sabha held on 22th August was adjourned due to unruly mob scenes and attacks on Gram Sabha members brought in at the behest of a builder floating the controversial Gonsalves-Dias Gates mega-project with the backing of the local MLA and Panchayat members. As soon as the minutes of the previous adjourned Gram Sabha were read out the Sarpanch Jose Manuel Fernandes admitted that the resolution for land acquisition for constructing a road in the vicinity of the controversial housing project at Cottarvaddo was wrongly recorded in the minutes by Secretary Pradeep Tamhankar when in fact such a proposal was never put to vote. Thereafter Gram Sabha member Evans Fernandes highlighted the state of affairs in the village Panchayat office wherein there was no accountability among the administrative staff as regards to office timings and work attitude. The Sarpanch assured him to look into the matter. Next one of the Gram Sabha member’s brought to the notice of the house that vide Panchayat body resolution No 9 of 5th August 08 it was resolved to get the services of one engineer and surveyor as and when needed, to check for illegalities in projects and building files of the village. However if any project file is being passed by the Panchayat in violation of the said resolution the damages if any, claimed by the builder of project which are subsequently proved to be illegal should be recovered from the personal accounts of individual Panch members after fixing responsibilities for being party to licensing such projects. To this Panch member Ferwin Saldanha accused the Gram Sabha member of fabricating evidence of such a resolution to this the member produced the minutes of the VP Body Meeting of 5/8/08 obtained under the RTI Act and the House witnessed a visibly embarrassed Mr Saldanha sheepishly taking his seat. In the din a long time elected Panch Martha Saldanha the self styled iron lady of the village was heard saying that “the Gram Sabha is nobody and has no powers”! She opined that the matter of the controversial mega project is ‘ subjudice” and the matter is pending with the Director of Panchayats. To this a Gram Sabha member countered her by saying that the Director of Panchayat is a quasi-judicial authority and that the elected Panches cannot abdicate their responsibilities and should act and revoke the license given to the builder forthright to uphold the law. The Gram Sabha ended with the final resolution tabled by Sheela Gracias on the doubling of the railway line by the South Western railway. The Cansaulim Gram Sabha rejected and opposed the proposal of the Indian railways to expand the existing rail track and loop it to the Konkan railway track for the following reasons. 1. The existing rail track passes through the area which has the highest population density in the villages. 2. The existing the track is in close vicinity of age old heritage houses and other heritage habitat and the constant movement of rail traffic would cause vibrations which could damage the heritage houses and most of them are or very close to 100 years of age or more. 1. The railway station is in the heart of the village and there is absolutely no space for expansion of the same. 1. The village Panchayat area is a low density heritage fabric area and a scenic coastal zone as acknowledged in the RPG 2021. 1. Parking of goods trains at odd hours near the houses has been causing number of damages and they are continuously in need of undergoing repair jobs. 1. Vibration owing to rail traffic has caused cracks in old heritage homes and further expansion plans would prove catastrophic. 1. The vibration and noise pollution even in the dead of night will cause major physical and mental health problems to the residents of the village. 2. Goods carrying trains which will be carrying mainly mineral ore through the village as the expansion plans are being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd and this Port connectivity project, shall cause atmospheric pollution through heavy dust and pose a major health hazard to the residents of the village giving rise to pulmonary diseases of epidemic proportions. 3. The railway line passes very close to a place of Christian worship the St. Lawrence Chapel at Arossim and further expansion will call for demolition of the century old chapel besides disturbing the tranquility of the village. 4. The Cansaulim–Arossim–Cuelim village boasts of livestock and agricultural land which will be endangered owing to the proposed heavy rail road traffic. 5. It is resolved that the villagers will not permit our beautiful scenic coastal heritage village to be exploited and our people and live

[Goanet] Govt to start Bimbvel land Vasco acquisition for Navy sans urgency clause
It’s down-right shocking how the Government of Goa goes about acquiring huge tracts of land for Tom, Dick and Harry including it’s own Ministers and whoever and his dog that demands it. South Goa district Collector’s grandiose plan to acquire huge land admeasuring 1.15 lakh sq meters in Davorlim village for “multi purpose utility project” has finally landed the in High Court. MLA Mauvin Godinho asks for 1 lakh square metres for allegedly treating garbage from 6 villages and Digambar Kamat nods his head to any con-scheme. Now before one could say ‘for what” the Government of Goa is jumping to acquire land in Bimbvel Beach Vasco for the Navy. Huge tracts of fields and land were acquired by the Navy from Goan Families in Vasco, Dabolim, Chicalim following Liberation and what is the land being used – for holding Navy Balls, Gymnasiums, Health Clubs and Spas for Massages and Jacuzzis and other such con-schemes. This article is from today’s Times of India. *Govt to start Bimbvel land acquisition sans urgency clause* Govind Kamat Maad, TNN, Oct 19, 2010, 04.43am IST MARGAO: Notwithstanding the public outcry against the moves of the Indian Navy to acquire a large stretch of the Bimbvel beach in Vasco, the South Goa district collectorate has forwarded the Navy's proposal to the state government to initiate the land acquisition process. It has also asked the defence estates officer (the acquiring department) to deposit 25% of the value of the land admeasuring 1,08,372 sq m, valued at ` 3.78 crore. However - in what can be seen as some consolation - the district administration has turned down the request of the naval authorities to acquire the land under the urgency clause of the Land Acquisition Act. A sanction for this had already been granted by the ministry of defence of the government of India. Documents obtained by TOI under the RTI Act reveal that the Indian Navy had insisted on the invocation of the urgency clause of the Land Acquisition Act 1894, with the defence estates officer, Panaji, making a formal request to the south Goa district collector to that effect. Invocation of the urgency clause entails dispensing of the procedure of filing objections by interested parties under Section 5 (a) of the Land Acquisition Act. The letter of the defence estates officer stated, "It is intimated that the representative of this office and the representative of INS Hansa, Vasco, has discussed the matter of acquisition of land admeasuring 1,08,372 sq m known as Bimbvel beach, Vasco, with the secretary and under secretary (Rev-I) in his office. During discussion, the under secretary said that the acquisition will be done in normal procedure without invoking the urgency clause u/s 17 of LA Act, 1894, whereas the sanction of government of India, ministry of defence has been accorded for invoking the urgency clause viz Section 17 of LA Act." It further pleaded that recommendation be given to the under secretary (Rev-I) and the land acquisition officer, Mormugao, to follow the procedure for land acquisition under urgency clause of the LA Act. The ministry of defence, in a letter dated June 15, 2010, had conveyed to the chief of naval staff, New Delhi: "The sanction of the President of India for acquisition of state/private land measuring 1,08,372 sq m known as Bimbvel beach located in village Mormugao, Vasco, Goa, for the safety of INS Hansa at a total estimated cost of ` 3.78 cr." It added, "The sanction is also accorded for invoking the provisions of urgency clause viz Section 17 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 for acquisition of private lands involved in this case". Turning down the request, deputy collector (land acquisition), south Goa, Margao, Agnelo Fernandes, informed the defence estates officer in a letter that the proposal has been forwarded to the government "to issue notification under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Code, without invoking the urgency clause". Explaining the reasons for rejecting the navy's demand for invoking the urgency clause, authorities of the district administration expressed apprehensions of finding themselves in legal entanglements if the normal procedure is not followed. "This office has experienced in the past that if the land acquisition is proceeded by invoking urgency clause under section 17 of Land Acquisition Act, 1894, the interested parties approach the high court wherein this office is made party to that writ petition and this office is made answerable to the high court in the said matter," the deputy collector's letter addressed to the defence estates officer states. "It is also observed that many a times, the district court orders to vacate the urgency clause in order to hear the interested parties. Therefore the land acquisition proceedings are forwarded to the government without invoking urgency clause in order to avoid the above difficulties," the letter adds.
[Goanet] JOB INTERVIEWS A FARCE
The interviews held to recruit government staff are a farce. The candidates are in fact chosen and finalized much before even the letters of interviews go out to the aspiring candidates. Merit and competency is all irrelevant with Ministers calling the shots. The Heads of departments have to be blamed for not having the spine to tell the Ministers that all recruitment should be on merit. Even the office of the very high constitutional post of Advocate General has been stuffed with his family and friends. The Advocate General Subodh Kantak has confessed that his personal secretary, a clerk from the Corporation of City of Panaji, has been brought in by him as his Personal Secretary on a gazetted officers pay scale. Amongst other errands he walks the Advocate General’s pack of dogs. The whole system of recruitment of staff seems to have gone to dogs. Re: [Goanet] asain Greetings to Venantius (Venantius J Pinto)
I am willing to be satisfied with that explanation, because a discussion on Hindustani music can go interminably long. Quote: because the Shankar / Jaikishan team just did not quite get it right. Due either to ignorance, carelessness, or rebelliousness, they twisted the rag and threw in so much unrelated stuff that it became unrecognisable." I find it bit absolutist to charge the creative duo,Shankar-Jaikishan with ignorance. There is in the semi-classical or classical based tradition of music, particularly film music and other non classical traditions like Gazhals, bhavageets, etc. a tendency to deliberately mix ragas. The prime object is to 'concoct' a tune just a shade off-tangent.There are any number of compositions in the traditions referred to above where one is let into the mood of certain raga and then deliberately mislead away into a mixed-bag of notes. Pt. Abhisheki has done it in his compositions, Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar does it almost every time he composes. Besides, ragas are based on something called Thaat' Many ragas in one group may resemble, and sometimes they may be from different thaats yet resemble like in the case of Tchaaya-nut,Jayjaywanti,Des, Kedar and the like. Sometimes Classical singers like Pt. Kumar Gandharva (whom the puritans may not accept as a strict classicist!) oddly brought in an un-prescribed note into the raga. There is a story how once he sang a note that HAD TO BE AVOIDED (varjit) while singingthe particular raga he was singing. After the performance a critic is supposed to have asked why he had done that. He replied' "You see, that note was hanging there right above my head imploring me to include her". Re: [Goanet] SELF DEFENCE CATHOLIC ASSOCIATIONS.
Dear readersThe catholic lay people are to be blamed for the mess in the catholic church. I am refering to the assets and finances of the church. We are always over generous while giving to the church. We want to make a big show and many times open our purses to give donations which goes elsewhere. Every sunday we pour money in the basket. I have never seen priests and nuns open their purses. In Goa the church is registered as a society registered under the society act 1860 but till today the church has remain so silent about this society as what is the name of the society, how many ordinary members it has, who are the governing body members, who are the minutes of the general body meeting or governing body meeting. They are afraid that the other catholics may want to get in this society. We are all left in the dark and we think that this church is ours, this property of the church is ours and it is our duty to repair the church etc. That means there is a scam and we are afraid. If tomorrow our churches are closed the assets can be divided between members of that society and we the philantrophist will get nothing. If you are allowed to be burried in the cemetry this society is doing us a favour. Amchem kaim nam. In Goa we are collecting lakhs of rupees towards mission. Do we have any mission in Goa ? our missionaries go to foreign countries and when they come to Goa they boast they are missionaries. it is the duty of Goa church o look after its sheep who are running here and there for the word of God.The church does not have obligation to send priests to Africa. When your own house is in disorder what can you set right your neighbour's house ? Our catholics are loaded with problems which the church has no time to solve. Divorce is increasing, drug absuse by youngsters is also increasing. Alcoholism and poverty is increasing. We have caritas which collects like mission sunday one collection. i have never seen caritas coming to the help of the poor and the downtrodden. we have so many under nourished christian families. We have alcoholic problems in our families. we have unemployment in our families. Does the church feel the heart beat or the low pulse beat of the poor ? No never. They will screw everyone when times come for collections or repairs of the church but they will not spend anything for us. Quo vadis Domino. [Goanet] Smokers to be under police watch at IFFI in Goa
Why only IFFI?. Isn't it necessary to ban it in restaurants all over Goa. The three restaurants I visited during my short stay not only allowed it but brought along astrays for the guests - O Coqueiro - Porvorim, Starlight - Arpora and another popular one on Holiday street Calangute. Why should non-smokers be forced to inhale this toxic polluting stuff just because of the callous, selfish attitude of a section of people who care a damn about their own health and cannot be expected to care about the health of others all around them. I know two close lady friends who suffered from severe fibrosis only because of this one factor - one died, the other one is regularly on oxygen and if you see her terrible condition, you would understand why I detest cigarette smoking.

'Tuzo mog, maka di ga, maka di ga...mozo mog maka di...di maka tuzo mog tuzo maka di maka...Mozo Saiba...oh Mozo SaibaMozo Saiba...oh Mozo Saiba' The Song 'Saiba' from bollywood movie 'Guzaarish' to be released on Nov 19, has Hrithik Roshan as Ethan Mascarenhas, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Sofia D’Souza. The verdant green landscape, the magnetic blue waters and the warm bright sunshine of beautiful Goa is home to one of the greatest magicians of his time, Ethan Mascarenhas. A Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie, and his first as a music director...this movie is set and was shot in Goa in July and August to capture the melody of the monsoons and the romance of the place. It has a Goan touch..the leading actors had to learn Portugese and Konkani for some scenes, though the movie will be dubbed in Hindi... Listen to this beautiful song partly in Konkani and Hindi rendered by Vibhavri Joshi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqp08qIpFlY Edward Verdes http://edskantaram.blogspot.com/

This situation is now being belatedly (and very partially) remedied with Chile finally (yesterday) signing the international convention on miners safety. Afaiac everybody is allowed her/his take regarding which supernatural forces saved the miners. For the Wall Street Journal it was ... capitalism (surprise!): http://bit.ly/d52mSk ("It needs to be said. The rescue of the Chilean miners is a smashing victory for free-market capitalism.") Meanwhile, in China's mines (or in Bihar for that matter...) Cheerio, p+3D!

[Goanet] UGC 35thTournamnet Week 3
Rising Stars Vs United Friends Club UFC begins tournament with 3-0 win over Rising Stars The first match began at 7:10 am where the winners of the last year’s edition United Friends club took on Rising Stars. Rising stars took advantage of early possession and began attacking right away from the word go, but the UFC defense was solid. UFC tried a couple of long balls to shake Rising Stars defense but they were not able to get them through for their attack to take advantage. The game was evenly balanced with both sides maintaining equal amount of possession and no side looked like it was going to give away any goals. UFC were gifted a golden opportunity in the 18thminute with a handball inside the penalty area and Remedio Fernandes picked the left side and send the goal keeper the other way to make the score 1-0. UFC soon afterwards had another chance, but Antony of Rising stars pulled in a great last minute calculated tackle to deny UFC from scoring. UFC maintained their attacking momentum and were rewarded with a defensive mistake from Rising Stars which resulted in an own goal. The second half began with rising stars stepping up their attacks and were looking for their opening goal. They began passing the ball nicely among themselves and creating chances but the UFC defenders were present all the way to stop all attacks. The game began to open up with both teams missing fine chances on either sides of the goal. It was a delight to see attacking football from both the sides, but UFC were the better team on this day and were rewarded a the third goal from Joquiam. The match finished UFC 3 – Rising Stars 0. The match was officiated by Jerry D’mello, Tony, Arnold and Joe. Final Score: UFC 3 – Rising Stars 0 UG Strikers Vs K.G.A K.G.A knock out hosts UG Strikers At the start of the second match, the KIFF president introduced all the club presidents and both the teams to Mr.Ali Melhem, the official from MOH ground. The last time these two teams met where on this ground where UG Strikers had edged KGA 3-1 in the KIFF league match. With the new season underway and players changing teams ever so regularly, KGA would be looking to turn things around. The first goal came in ten minutes when an unmarked Vitorino Menezes scored from a nice shot taken from inside the box. UG tried to counter with some long balls from the midfield but KGA defense stood like a rock. UG Strikers had a chance with a free kick but it was sent just wide over the post. KGA maintained their attack on UG but UG goalkeeper had come out of his line to make some good saves. Shubert of UG had a long range effort from 30 yards out but it was kept out by the fingertips of the KGA goalkeeper. Vico, played a major role in midfield for KGA as he constantly provided some good balls for his attack keeping the UG defenders busy at the back. Vitorino who played exceptionally well beat his marker and another defender to make the score 2-0 at the end of the first half. United Goans started the second half positively and some good passing leaded to some good attacking chances. It was a very dormant second half from both the sides with KGA happy to protect their lead. Vitorino was without doubt the man of the match as he continued displaying his superb individual skills. He had a chance to complete his hat-rick because of a deliberate handball by a UG defender which resulted in him being sent off. This is the second time we have seen a red card in this tournament due to the same reason. There were a lot of offside calls as both teams began to play the offside trap well. Another lapse in defending resulted in an own goal and KGA made sure they would be no late comeback before the match ended with favor to KGA. This match was refereed by Jerry, Joe, Arnold and Nasi. Final Score: KGA 3 – UG Strikers 0 DHL VS RANGERS DHL score in extra time to go through against new comers Rangers The third match began at 10:03 am with both teams playing delighting football and gave the crowd a great show of football. The match referees were Gaspor, Arnold, Joe and Rosario. Both teams were matched equally and no team had control of possession for long periods of time. The game was played at a fast pace and the first good chance was a shot taken by no.19 Vazeel of Rangers from 35 yards out. He had the keeper beaten but the ball flew inches over the post. Kevin Misquita played an instrumental part in midfield as he had helped create a lot of attacking chances for Rangers. DHL then began to get in the game and take advantage of some shots on target. The Rangers keeper was upto mark and was able to deal with shots on target from DHL. DHL had some good chances but the defense of Rangers made sure they would not be any goals in the first half. With the temperature over 40 degree Celsius, the second half began at 10:50 am. Rangers were awarded a free kick, but it was sent to the wall and on the counter DHL managed to score a goal but it was rightly ruled offside.
