[Goanet] Great Musical Tribute to Goa's great Music Legends - Chris Perry and Alfred Rose
http://joegoauk.blogspot.com/2011/11/musical-tribute-to-chris-perry-and.html A musical tribute to Chris Perry and Alfred Rose A beautiful Konkani Musical show presented by A Ferns Music to pay tribute to Goa's great music legends - Chris Perry and Alfred Rose Chris Perry and Alfred Rose – A musical Tribute What a show it was! A fitting tribute to Goa’s two great Music Legends - Chris Perry and the Melody King Alfred Rose. Thanks to A Ferns Music (Agustine Fernandes, the producer of this show). It started with little Deeksha who sang so beautifully and with confidence the popular Rita Rose song –‘ Tin Kallzam' then again ‘Gagreachem Mana' (Rita Rose). or go here http://joegoauk.blogspot.com/2011/11/musical-tribute-to-chris-perry-and.html Then comes a Melody Princess – Nephie Rod with sweet voice. This is the first time I watched Nephie singing Live, although I heard or read about her a lot in the past. I always wanted to meet this young lady even if I had to go to Bombay to watch her singing live. (..and I even said that on Facebook) and within weeks time, there she is performing Live in Goa at Kala Academy. Her first song ‘ANKVARPONN’ (Chris Perry/Lorna) nearly 8 minutes long, sung so beautifully that it really made my day. Other songs were ‘Sorga Rajeant’, ‘Calangute’, ‘Red Rose’, ‘Pisso’ besides, a duet with Minino Mario 'Goem Euchinam'(Alfred Rose/Rita Rose). There comes O’Luv- Goa’s Pop Sensation. Finally, I met this young guy at Panjim show. Heard or read a lot about him too but never seen performing live. Yes, Olavo did rock the show and I am sure he can do even lot more better than that(Rocking potentials, I mean) as he is young and energetic. He says Chris Perry was his Guru and sung mostly Chris Perry’s songs some of which we never heard before. Poilo Kiss, Amig, O Goa, Carolina (Portuguese), Rock Rock, Cucurucu etc Thenthere was a young Hindu duo – Rituja and Siddesh who sung a duet of Alfred Rose/Krishna Kalle/Luiza – 'Vokol Koxi Dista Ayi (Logn Zatam)- which reminded me the time I used to spend infront of Akashwani (All India Radio, Panjim). Elvis and his brother Francis Marcarenhas sang Alfy’s song ‘Apreciacao’ or ‘Vakanni’ the song we never heard of before. It was a lovely song. Elvis again sung very beautifully 'Fottoun Gelem'(Alfred Rose) A Ferns or Agustine Fernandes, the producer of the show himself sang a Alfred Rose song ‘Kochreache Dobeant’. I must mention here that Mr. Agustine is a physically handicapped person with both his legs affected by Polio since birth. He uses his hands to walk (legs are not even touching the ground - sorry if I shouldn't have mentioned this here) something I never seen before, yet very energetic in the field of Music which, I am sure, made him to come out with this beautiful show. He has his own Music Academy where he trains others on Keyboards etc. Infact, young Caine who handled the show almost single handedly is his one of the trained students. Agustine also produced an Audio CD entitled “Baby, You’re My love” under the banner of A Ferns Music, artistes include Sudesh Bhosle, Sadhana Sargam, Olavo Rodriguez (O’luv) etc. He also sang in the album. Other artistes who sang in the show.. Young Sharon sang ‘Kalliz Ostorechem’ (Rita Rose), Minino Mario ‘Pornem Volter' (Alfred Rose), George Gonsalves ‘Gozali’ (Alfred Rose), Bushan Lajja ‘Zolmacho Gaun Goa’ (jivit Goenkaramchem) and ‘Fottkire Agent’ (Alfred Rose/Rita Rose), Elick ‘Sukh ailem lotton’ (Alfred Rose/Boglantt), Clarissa d/o Anthony San beautifully sang ‘Bhuerantlo Munis’ (Asha Bhosle). Young 13 year old Caine provided music to most of the songs on his Keyboards as said, he is trained by A Ferns. Where as for Olavo and Nephie Rod, Live Music provided by Joaquim d’Souza (Clarinet/Sax), Victor on Guitar, Mark on Bass, Sancho on Keyboards and Carlos on Drums. In-between, there were some comedy skits provided by Com. Ambe, Aurelio and Master Win s/o of Minino Mario It was a memorable evening with good selection of artistes and musicians who performed to the satisfactions of all. Sadly, I am told that the show did not get any govt support nor any politicians sponsorships. Hats off to Mr. Agustne, the show was excellent and will be remembered in the years to come. [Goanet] Save Every Village In Goa
Save Every Village In Goa The isle of Vaxim, one could say God own abode, I was on that island just once and it was an amazing feeling, green all round, small houses narrow winding roads, high lands and low plains, vast paddy fields, coconut plantations, mangoes, jackfruits all over the isle and most of all water water every where. Isle of Vaxim is also blessed with mangroves that attracted a lot of birds, as it makes an ideal nesting place, a natural habitat. It is also rich in flower, fauna and water life, crabs and fishes a plenty. That was a long time ago and I would have visited that island paradise more often during my younger days but for the three course road transport (bus) and a ferry crossing. The journey from my place to the isle had taken me around four hours of start-stop-break journey but even though the journey was agonizing, once there, it was soothing. It is one of the most beautiful places in Goa and the people there were very accommodating and helpful. Even though my own village is a paradise on earth I envied them. Today the beauty of the isle of Vaxim has become the cause of a lot of heartburns and anguish for it's residents, as land mercenaries in the form of builders are all set to gore and desecrate this beautiful virgin island, with the help of our very own ever greedy, corrupt politicians and Authorities. Last few weeks the isle of Vaxim has been in the news on a daily basis, as the faithful residents have set out in unity to stop the rape of their land. A people committed to the cause of their land for the sake of their own future and the future of the generations to come. I salute these brave hearts for their sense of loyalty and determination to save their land from being devoured by selfish, heartless and conceited commercialists. The residents of the isle of Vaxim have shown Goans why unity is important and what it can do, just like the residents of Nuem, Khola, a tiny village on Goa's west coast who fought together in unity and saved their land from miners and a five star consortium, residents of Caverm too in unity closed down an illegal mine, if these three tiny villages showed willingness and commitment to save their respective villages from land mercenaries who are helped by our very own traitors, the corrupt and greedy authorities, why cannot the rest of Goa ? No doubt all over Goa people have been fighting against land atrocities but still it's just a few people here and a few people there, even though the whole of Goa is affected by these atrocities. We Goans have always been termed susegad because of our way of life and our inability to react to an atrocity in any form till it comes knocking at our own doors but by then it becomes too late for any effective and concrete action and we are forced to accept our fate in a susegad manner. The RP 2021 that our Authorities are trying to force down our gullet has been a clear indication that they will stop at nothing in their quest to destroy Goa and Goans and be assured that benevolence is not a virtue that our Authorities are known to be embedded with or possess. They only succumb to mass movements, that threatens their chairs and not good will or dialogue and we have history to prove that. Goans if we do not wake up now and join the fight we will be run over and out of our own lands and then we will have nothing to fight for or call our own. Let today be the day that we take a firm decision for our own welfare and that of our generations to come. Today it is Vaxim tomorrow it could be our very own backyard, Goans unite and fight to protect our land from the land mafia and their cohorts. Save not just Vaxim but every village in Goa. Jai Goa ! [Goanet] WACI of Bombay (Calling Bombay gurus)
Hi Selma and all Goans, I would like to address one point since it appears to suggest that wife battery does not/could not/may not happen in posh areas, upon reading these the last two sentences: And if you can describe the area around Hira building mid-century, I would be very grateful. Was it a rough neighbourhood? were there brothels in that area? Hard-drinking men? Men given to violence and battering their wives. Or was it a posh area?? IF SUCH WAS NOT the case/conjecture. then ignore and accept my apologies. I am also not being Mumbai specific. A highly motivating sense of space and place, with all attendant luxuries, as also the esteem that comes with living in high-end/posh neighborhoods, does not/appears not to, in any way exclude the reality and existence of wife battery. The sad reality as we know, is that no lived environment is immune to males who are given to beating their wives, girlfriend, lovers, etc. It is just that over time certain individuals decide what they stand to loose by displaying such behavior. Others carry it on in other ways minus the beatings. In contemporaneity, this is also true also of young men, as also older school going children who do the same to their girl friends. I can believe that such is happening in India. We are no different. Although this addition extended what I pointed above, the point is that posh areas are not immune to domestic violence (DV). This we learnt is a huge fallacy among women. Cecilia's dissertation was on the following topic. Cecilia Castelino, City University of New York, Battered Women's Relationship to the Housing in Which They Were Battered: Institutional Programs and Noninstitutional Strategies Some Battered Women Use To Stay Put in Their Housing and Get Their Batterers To Move Out. [Goanet] Stretching and Flexibility - How to Stretch
Hi Freddy, Appreciate your post. I truly like posts where the writer introspects and offers examples from lived existence. What I appreciated about your thoughts is that they could be applied to so many things, besides physical fitness and . Over the years it became clear to me that we in India are often cocksure of too many things. This was/is still perhaps on account of an unwillingness to spend time finessing a form/understanding technique; lack of facilities, the idea of sharing particularly techniques and good practices, access to advice and mentorship intransigent mindsets; faulty beliefs, developing meaningful relationships, etc. I am now out of India, but this was foremost on my mind even while a student at JJ Applied and earlier at Khalsa, At Khals, I did everything right regards long distance training, but my nutrition was woefully inadequate. Although I did not study Painting at JJ, and my training is largely didactic, it was on account of intense and correct methodologies (for lack of a better word) by which I covered/and continue to cover immense ground over the years. Coming closer to my point: The ability to mold the body to function in certain ways towards specific tasks is very crucial to the artist and I dare say dictates what he/she does over time. To draw as I do requires immense focus, the ability to breathe a certain way, not have the body go down on you and cause pain. Recently in Japan, I had to draw in the seiza position at a intense ritual which I would not have been earlier able to do for the length of time I had to hold that position if not for the buildup towards developing that ability. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150262234812370set=a.10150262232132370.346704.605552369type=3theater You post brought these thoughts to mind. venantius j pinto Message: 9 Date: Thu, 24 Nov 2011 05:58:10 + From: Freddy Fernandes ffernandes@emaar.ae To: goanet@lists.goanet.org goanet@lists.goanet.org (Fom Con) Aging makes one physically inflexible. Re: [Goanet] THE PRIORITIES TO SALVAGE GOA
Dear Mr. Aires Rodriques, On reading your message of date I was saddened to read the sorry state of Affairs in my home state and I am deeply moved by its several plights in Toto. What needs to be done practically as the need of the hour, mobilize like minded people and campaign signature on door-to-door basis; so that one will get to know who is interested and who is not to 'Save Goa Movement'. This will give a clear picture of the masses whether they have a real concern among themselves to Save Goa from Gullible Sharks of every dimension or it is just a rhetoric exercise? As you have rightly pointed out 'If immediate remedial steps are not taken we will lose the battle to Save this once Paradise of the east now in a state of decay, disarray and grave concern'. So Wake You People of Goa and you all Goans. Put all your differences aside, caste, credo and religion and fight to your last breath for the common welfare of all Goans. 'Right is Might' or it may be too late before the Realization Dawns on each individual Goan and that tomorrow may never come, just to see / watch Goa Gone Bye! Faded into the thin air or into smithereens. Sam Furtado Khargahar, Navi Mumbai On Thu, Nov 24, 2011 at 5:55 AM, Aires Rodrigues airesrodrigu...@gmail.comwrote: Goa lies in a critical state so very wounded and brazenly defaced. Being a small beautiful State blessed with abundant resources and a very picturesque landscape it should have been India’s best State in all respects. If immediate remedial steps are not taken we will lose the battle to Save this once Paradise of the east now in a state of decay, disarray and grave concern. Goa needs to have a planned development with an environmental vision by first improving Goa's crumbling basic infrastructure while also tackling serious issues like garbage and vehicle parking in cities on a top priority. Every citizen has a right to good roads, proper power and water supply. The Planning and Development authorities (PDA’s) must be scrapped and planning work must be facilitated by assigning a Town Planner at every Municipality. There is an urgent need to enact necessary amendments to the Town and Country Planning Act to ensure that land use is not manipulated at the whims and fancies of those in power. There has to be a check on rampant corruption, gross indiscipline and rank abuse of authority currently prevalent in Government offices. With corruption having peaked, Goa urgently needs the setting up of a Lokayukta” to ensure public accountability of Ministers including the Chief Minister, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Municipal Councilors and Panchayat members, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Managing Director and Members of all the Corporations under the control of the Government. The working of all the NGO’s also needs to be made transparent and accountable. Independence of the police force is a must. Ministers and MLA’s should stop controlling and manipulating police stations. The power to transfer and promote police personnel should vest only with the Director General of Police, IGP and DIG. To promote the interests of Goa’s educated unemployed the Government should revert the retirement age of government employees to 58 if not 55 and stop the extensions in service and contract appointments being given to retired government officers. We need to ensure transparency in recruitment of all government staff by entrusting the entire selection process to a properly constituted Goa Public Service Commission. Selection to all posts should be strictly on merit. All government jobs should go only to people of Goan origin and 80% jobs in private and other organizations must be reserved for those who are domiciled in Goa for at least 25 years. Many of the unnecessary Government Corporations which are operating as white elephants burdening the tax payer should be wound up. The rest should be headed not by politicians but experts in the field related to the subject matter of the Corporation. Information sought under the Right of Information Act has to be made more accessible to the public by having a centralized call centre in the State to handle all applications for information under the Act as has been done in the State of Bihar. We must seriously look into the illegal migrant vote banks set up in most constituencies by certain politicians. All bogus voters on the electoral rolls of Goa need to be deleted as most of them are existing as voters in their home state too. There is need for a law to regulate sale of land to persons not of Goan origin. Communidade land has to be protected for the purpose it was envisaged by taking deterrent action against large-scale encroachment and land use violation. Everything possible needs to be done to keep Goa alive and healthy for generations to come. Posterity will not forgive us if we do not thwart the vested designs of those selfish and ever so greedy

[Goanet] OHeraldo edits
Found today's edit in OHeraldo a bit amusing. The opening line, It's a logic thatf defies logic, is something that defies meaning. The edit's asks, Does the CM know what a cultural capital is? I ask, Does the editorial writer knows what's a logic is? Further into the para, it says, The venue of the inauguration of an international film festival, triggers of cataclysmic changes in the towns’ socio cultural ethos, leapfrogging it from just another town to a cultural capital. First, instead of off it is written as of. Second, instead of town's it is towns. Third, socio cultural should have been hpernated, socil-cultural. Fourth, from cataclysmic changes the town is leapfrogging. How come the inauguration of IFFI start such great changes in a matter of seconds or a day? Margao has a right to call itself the cultural capital. It has been a centre of many cultural shows and events. It is here that more tiatrs are held than anywhere else in Goa. Panaji had its own special cultural flavour but it has evaporated now. It's another matter that Margoa is rendered ugly now, as other cities of Goa. I wish the editorial had focussed fully on the merits or demerits of IFFI, as the edit does in the last para. While the edit says hosting IFFI is a matter of pride for Goa, it questions (without the question mark) the government why it has failed to put permanent infrastructures into place. Yesterday's editorial too hit out at the CM in an editorial that mixed-up the issue of the strike by mining truck owners and IFFI. Trying to play on the acronym IFFI, the editorial falls flat when it tries to relate it to the hopeless indecision of the CM on take a firm stand on the agitation. Tbe previous day's (Nov 22) also targetted Digamber Kamat for his failure to find solution to the truck owners' problems. The heading of the edit is, When Trouble comes home for CM The CM is in trouble and we would be great if he is spared the trouble if the voters sent him packing home at election time. eugene --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---

[Goanet] Railway line inserted in RP to eliminate trucks - Clause Alvares - www.nizgoenkar.net
CLAUDE ALVARES: RAILWAY LINE INSERTED IN RP TO ELIMINATE TRUCKSThursday - Nov 24, 2011 PANJIM: Though the mining companies in Goa used mining truckers for their pro-mining agitation in Panjim on Tuesday, the companies are planning the truckers' demise in the state, Goa Foundation director Claude Alvares said on Wednesday. Addressing mediapersons, Alvares said a railway line was inserted into the Goa Regional Plan 2021 (RP 2021) just 15 days prior to its notification without consulting any authorities like the railway board, the Indian Bureau of Mines, etc. Alvares said the railway line of about 20 km is proposed from Codli mines to Santona (Kalem) jetty in order to eliminate 7,500 truck trips per day. The railway line will cater to the two biggest mining companies in Goa - Sesa Goa and Fomento, he said. Alvares said although mining companies knew the production limits and permissions they had to adhere to, greed induced them to violate mining and environmental regulations, while government sat by, watched and did nothing. Estimating that mining companies have done illegal mining in Goa to the tune of 25,000 crore in the past decade, Goa Foundation stated it is legally and morally binding on the companies and lease owners to comply with a few proposals from the NGO he heads. The first is that companies should employ for at least one year in the mandatory rehabilitation work required on the mining sites, all those who may be thrown out of work due to mining shutdown. The second is to reimburse the bank installments (balance EMIs) of persons who took loans for the purchase of trucks, barges and other mining equipment for at least the next one year. The third is for the mining companies to rehabilitate the environment that has been destroyed due to the large-scale illegal mining.Alvares said that since the mining companies have not invested any money in mining trucks and equipment, they can just shut shop and leave Goans who invested fortunes in trucks, barges and other mining equipment to fend for themselves and their bank loans. Alvares cited the example of Vedanta Resources. He said that this company owns Sesa Goa but is registered in London. Its chairman Anil Agarwal lives in London and has no responsibility to Goans or the Goan environment, Alvares said. Giving an example of the extent of profits by mining companies, Alvares said, Sesa Goa India's annual report states that it sold 20.4 million tonnes of ore in 2010-11 for 8,387 crore. In other words, nearly one third of the total iron ore export from Goa belonged to Sesa Goa. Net profit after tax as declared by the company for the same year is a whopping 4,222 crore. The income of the Goa government for the same year from all sources was 4,290 crore and the total budget of the Goa government in 2010-11 was 6,000 crore, Alvares said. – TNN --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
[Goanet] Goa's Director of Education - Opportunity for Selma
I read that Dr. Celsa Pinto is retiring as Director of Education at the end of the month. Here's a chance for Selma to apply and, with little help from the NRI department, she could get the post. She could then improve the teaching of English in schools and colleges. Selma could also double up as as NRI adviser to the Ministry of Housing in dealing with the proposed tax on second homes. [Goanet] Press Note RP2021
*Goa Bachao Abhiyan* 77, Defence Colony, Alto Porvorim-Goa goabachaoabhi...@gmail.com www.savegoa.com Phone: 707083 GBA/2011/62 24 November, 2011** Press Release The GBA has through its meeting with the Chief Minister and the TCP Department received extension of time till 5th December for Village Level groups/bodies/ individuals to seek appointment with the TCP and place all errors on Eco Zones, road widths and suspect insertions of settlements, etc for correction with supporting arguments. However the GBA has noted that the TCP Department has not issued clear guidelines for how these are to be presented and if they will issue dates for hearing the aggrieved groups. The GBA demands that the same be made public immediately to avoid confusion. Politically motivated misinformation The GBA notes that there is a concerted effort being made to whip up peoples emotions through misinformation. If the MLA’s are serious in supporting the wishes of the people they should call for a special assembly session to Amend the TCP Act for inclusion of peoples participation in future planning as per the 73rd and 74th Amendment and repeal Amendment 16/16A of the TCP Act. Amendment 16/16A to the TCP Act which was passed unopposed in 2008, allows development permissions in the name of PPP to bypass people without being shown on the Regional Plan. As you read this, as many as 17 mega projects are seeking permission through the Tourism Master Plan as PPP with a view to exploit the loophole that Amendment 16/16A has provided. The GBA urges people to question their MLA’s in this regard to come out clearly with a statement on this. Road Width Issues Public notices have been printed reassuring people that existing houses will not be demolished, compulsory set backs being valid only for new constructions. Gazette notification of 4th August 2011 clause 32, states clearly at the time of approval of the development plan, minimum 6m wide right of way should be available on the site, in line with the High Court order. The 25m wide MDR’s ( Main District Roads ) and 15m MPR’s ( Main Panchayat Roads ) have been part of the RP2001 unopposed, and are not unique to the RP2021. Details of right-of-way alignment and width including internal roads, lie with the concerned department, the PWD. In the absence of the RP2021, the RP2001 will be in force, including the roads, as per PWD record. The people should concur and make informed decisions on internal road widths based on ground realities and current day requirements at the Gram Sabhas. While 6m right-of-ways allow for development, newly introduced VP2 status allows for a lower built up area of 60% instead of blanket 80% as per RP2001. Perspectives not discussed have also emerged regarding roads, such as the need to allow for access of agricultural machinery such as tractors and harvesters to the farmers fields. These have in fact not been marked in some village plans and have been subject matter of discussion at Taluka level meetings conducted by the Directorate of Agriculture. Paths need to be minimum 2.5m width as 1.5m access do not permit movement of machinery. Yet another perspective is public transport does not reach interior areas due to narrow roads below 6m ( Carpet width 4m ) and require people to walk long distances. This has been a complaint for working people who return from work after dark. Insertions or Errors The GBA urges people to bring forward clear errors or insertions that work against the principle of Eco-Zones as laid out in the policy of the RP2021. Survey number 78 and 84 in Pilerne/Marra for example, where overlays of Google maps, ODP’s and the draft RP2021, show large areas converted from Eco-Zone to Settlement including a 10m proposed road to feed it. Naroa Panchayat also shows a shipyard on a mangrove zone of Survey no.8, clearly an insertion where there is nothing on ground to support this. The GBA demands that the TCP Department corrects such obvious insertions and will understand it to be fraud if ignored. The GBA offers assistance on Monday, 28th November, from 10.30am to 4pm, to any party who wishes for study or clarifications regarding such issues, as well as for presentation to the TCP office before 5th December. Those seeking to do this may inform their intention on 707083. [Goanet] God and You
Dear Goanetters. While the Bible teaches us one thing we are given another type of religion and hope God will save us when we go to Him. I wonder what God will do with those who have forcebly given us alternate gods leaving the almighty God the Father of Jesus without glory and worship. Exodus chapter 20 verse 4 clearly teaches us that God the father is the Almighty God and we cannot make any other gods before Him. I request each and every goa netter who wishes to read to go through this passage. Is the Roman Catholic Church believes that God the Father is the only God and that we have no other gods before him ? If this commandment that was given to Moses by the Almighty Lord is not observed and respected than we may not see God at all.We might say then woe to us wished we were not born as human beings. what is the use of our religion if we cannot reach Heaven the place all desire to be ! Could some one tell me if Rosary is a prayer and if statues forms a part of our religio n. If ours is the true religion and founded by Christ through his sacrifice then we should do away with the statues of all kind as Lord does not like it. Read the bible feel the power of the holy spirit and do not recite insipid prayers. Hope the holy Spirit enlighten all those whose brains have become coroded with paganism. albert --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---

lino dourado wrote: If you sees an immodestly dressed woman in the church just remember this: “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). . COMMENT: There is a solution to this narrow-minded stuff emanating from Mangalore: 1: Women should be mandatorily dressed in a head to toe ḥijāb. Goans can call it Kapod. Mangaloreans may term it Dosa. 2: All those who go to church to be distracted and to be lustful (including the priests), should be charged a special entrance fee. 3: Mangalorean priests should be compulsorily 'married off'. They are getting to miserable. Lete us see if marriage makes them 'better or worse'. (:-) ps: I hope that Catholic priests spend more time in church talking about how the congregation can be good to one another, look after the poorer and older folks who are in need, and be courteous and helpful to one another, instead of this foolishness. And yes, while it is good to see the young come to church, they would do well to note that beachwear is for the beach. jc --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
[Goanet] WACI of Bombay - Victor is correct.
It was officially WAC(I). Anyone watch 'Francis the talking mule meets the WACs' : In the US, they were 'army,' unlike 'auxiliary' as in Britain and India. eric. Probably a World War II acronym, Selma. WACs was used to describe those who belonged to the Women's Auxiliary Corps. The I might have stood for India. Just a wild guess; Eric might be better informed.
