[Goanet] Another Record for Vasudeo ohGaitonde and Goan Art (Times of India)

2015-12-20 Thread V M
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Another-Record-for-Vasudeo-Gaitonde-and-Goan-Art/articleshow/50260116.cms

Another auction, another world record passed anew between Francis
Newton Souza and Vasudeo Gaitonde. The two lifelong friends from Goa
passed away at the cusp of the 21st century. But riches that eluded
them in their lives rapidly accrued to those who hold their paintings.
Earlier this week, an untitled abstract masterpiece by Gaitonde sold
at a Christies auction in Mumbai for $4.4 million dollars, beating the
$4.1 million benchmark set in New York a few months earlier by Souza's
1955 oil-on-board, 'Birth'.

There is something incalculably powerful about the Souza-Gaitonde bond
which is now heading inexorably towards a century of connection. Both
artists were born in 1924, and were deeply attached to ancestral
villages in Bardez, where each spent lastingly influential years of
childhood. They kick-started the Progressive Artists Group in Bombay
in the 1940's - an unruly clump of hungry-eyed artists barely out of
their teens - which is now recognized as the most important moment in
the history of modern Indian art. Husain, Raza, Ram Kumar, Akbar
Padamsee, Tyeb Mehta, Krishen Khanna, an incredible roster.

Both turned their relentless eyes to the world - Paris, London, New
York. Gaitonde became influenced by Zen meditation, his work simmered
abstract cool. Souza burned ever-brighter, his paintings exploded
ebullient and bombastic. Both artists were grudgingly admired, but
never widely appreciated. A few works went into important collections
(Gaitonde into the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Souza into the
Tate Gallery in London) but the unavoidable truth is both men died
almost penniless, in near-solitary circumstances, almost totally
ignored by the same Indian art "establishment" that now feeds greedily
off their corpuses.

Souza and Gaitonde died less than 15 years ago, and in their own
lifetimes neither sold a painting for even $10,000 (a shockingly short
period elapsed before their work breached $1 million). India's highly
blinkered art mafia was eventually blindsided by the marketplace that
developed for the two Goans after their death - in a depressingly
familiar pattern, it was acclaim from the West that made the
difference. The Tate Modern started displaying its Souza masterpiece
'The Crucifixion' in the same room as Matisse and Picasso, and a
series of auctions in New York and London (powered by non-resident
Indian money) established the friends as consistent record-setters.

Today, every variety of instant art expert will babble in your ear
about the merits of Souza and Gaitonde. But why did it take these
chumps so long to figure out what was always true, what both Souza and
Gaitonde were never in doubt about even through the most humiliating
travails? It's hard to avoid the conclusion a big reason the
self-appointed, self-important Indian "cognoscenti" overlooked our two
greatest modern artists right into the 21st century is because of
their very Goan artistic sensibilities.

In his masterly curatorial essay for 'Aparanta' (the enduringly
important 2007 art exhibition in Panaji) Ranjit Hoskote noted
"meteorically brilliant" Goan artists have fed the Indian art world
like "an invisible river". However, he wrote, "geographical continuity
does not mean Goa and mainland India share the same universe of
meaning. Goa's special historic evolution...its pride in its ancient
internationalism avant la lettre, sets it at a tangent to the
self-image of an India that has been formed with the experience of
British colonialism as its basis. The relationship between Goa's
artists and mainland India has, not surprisingly, been ambiguous and
erratic, even unstable."

That instability and lopsidedness lingers today. Souza and Gaitonde's
younger peers Laxman Pai and Vamona Navelcar are alive, but just as
ignored and overlooked as today's record breakers were just 15 years
ago. Perhaps even more egregious is the case of Goa's utterly
brilliant young artists: Viraj Naik, Loretti Pinto, Pradeep Naik,
Shilpa Mayenkar Naik, Santosh Morajkar, Karishma D'Souza, Kedar
Dhondu, Siddarth Gosavi, Kalidas Mhamai and others. This is a
flowering of artistic talent that is second to no other place in the
subcontinent. If they were Bengali, or from Bandra or Bengaluru, many
of them would be mightily feted on the national stage.

But they are Goans, and so they are talked down to and patronized,
routinely treated as window dressing to "the main show" even at
exhibitions in their own home state. Still. the artists of Goa can
take quiet satisfaction from this week's auction result. It is a
timely reminder that the flimsy whims of the fashionable set mean
nothing at all in the long term. Conventional wisdom lasts but a
minute or two. Make no mistake, Gaitonde and Souza and history itself
is on the side of Goan art.

[Goanet] Goanet: REMO SUPER STAR MUSICIAN ISSUE WAS BLOWN UP OUT OF PROPORTION?

2015-12-20 Thread Stephen Dias
REMO WAS UNNECESSARY TARGETED

Look! My version is not political let me confirm this first to people of
Goa because Remo may be member from Goa AAP party or not.

Remo who is 61 years old, I knew him when he was a kid of 10 years old
and I was 10 years exactly older than him. His father Benferds was a great
person coming from a decent family, who wanted his son to be a great
musician. I used to go to his house near Old Kala Academy and listen to his
first steps of music.

I had a first pop group called RINGERS and my specialty was on BASS DRUM
made of MUDIS TEA on those days and the leader of this group was Emercio
Rodrigues who is now of international repute and having a band in Canada.
He is at the level of Remo and presently is in Goa for Christmas vacations.
Our group played on ALL INDIA RADIO GOA, at Altinho several times. My
intention is not to tell people what I did before but to tell all the
people of Goa that Remo was not only a talented musician but coming from a
respectable family. Some people may say that he has now developed an
attitude which I disagree. I was surprised why such accusations are being
made against him and blown up out of proportions, which will be known only
after his return from Europe trip. He informs that he had purchased his
ticket much in advance of the accident and therefore let us waits for the
Court verdict, if any.

I am also with the victim who is convalescing in GMC Hospital. She comes
from a poor family surely she needs help whether monetary or personal.
Aires lawyer in profession and Fr. Savio Barreto Rector of Basilica Old Goa
and others who came to her rescue and given comforts etc all is fine.

My point of expressing and intention that why only this victim issue is
blown up? Is it that because she has no father? Is it that she is a NON
Goan and that Goans must help such victims? There exist much such type of
victims even worse than her not only in the same Hospital and elsewhere,
and nobody bothers to look after them.

The Chief Minister Relief fund provision could have sort for, in addition
to the call for Goans to come to GMC Hospital and deposit on her bank
account as suggested etc and who knows where this money will slip off,
whether for her own injuries and restoration/ recovery of health?

I am sure that our CM would be kind enough to extend help from his
provisions of Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, if he find reasonable and
acceptable.

I am really surprised why this great Remo had to be answerable for all his
blown up mischief. He might have insulted this victim or not, but it is an
accident case committed by his son who was on the wheels, and that angle
was suppressed but why Remo needs to be targeted for his sudden verbal
behavior, if it is true.

[Goanet] Love song of Lorna Cordeiro (Reena Martins, The Telegraph Kolkata)

2015-12-20 Thread Goanet News
A Konkani film on a Goan singer is vying for nomination in
the original musical score category at the Oscars. The film’s
director and composer talk to Reena Martins about the musical

[PHOTO A still from Nachom-ia Kumpasar]

Bardroy Barretto, Mumbai ad filmmaker-turned-feature film
director, was having breakfast with a friend on Wednesday
when an unexpected email popped up on his phone. It was from
the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los
Angeles -- better known as the Oscar folks.

Barretto learnt that his Konkani film Nachom-ia Kumpasar
(Let's Dance to the Rythm) was one of 112 films shortlisted
for this year's Oscars - the 88th Academy Awards - for its
music, or the "original score" category.

The film, about a Goan singer, has been getting
rave reviews as it crosses 300 screenings in Goa
and travels the film festival circuit from Paris to
West Asia. The film won four awards at this year's
international film festival in Milan, three in
  Romania and another in London.

"My biggest gift is when people -- some even in wheelchairs
-- come up and thank me for making the film," director
Barretto says.

[PHOTO On song: Music composer Ronnie Monsorate]

A musical, Nachom-ia Kumpasar is based on the high-voltage
love story between the Mumbai-based Goan musical genius and
composer, Chris Perry, and his Goan muse, singer Lorna
Cordeiro. Together the couple performed at nightclubs,
weddings and concerts across Mumbai, Delhi and Calcutta, and
soon became the stuff of legend, till Chris left Lorna after
a nine-year-long partnership in the mid-Seventies, to start a
music school in the Gulf.

The film's music, originally composed by Chris, was written
out by the film's music director, Ronnie Monsorate - the
Oscar nominee - who had performed with Lorna and Chris as a
young musician. It tells the (slightly fictionalised) story
of Lorna and Chris (Donna and Lawry in the film) as they
flirt, fall in love and crash into despair, before she rises
from the ashes, defying his 20-year contract which forbids
her from singing with any other musician.

The real-life Lorna did not succeed in beating this contract
and remained crushed under its weight until she was
resurrected by many valiant attempts of Monsorate in the
Nineties. "I only had a voice; it was Chris who moulded me,"
she told The Telegraph in a rare interview in January this year.

Monsorate recounts how he scored the music for the film. "It
took me two months to write the background music and another
two weeks to record it," he says. "The sound tracks of the 18
songs took one-and-a-half months to write and a week to
record. The sound quality is far superior than the original
since the recording facilities back then were not half as
good."

But if the music is what has the audience coming back for
more, fitting it to the original was certainly no cakewalk.
"The film is shot using the original tracks, making it a hard
bargain when it came to synchronising the music (played by 40
musicians on strings, brass, keys and drums) with the
original which was recorded not in a studio but at live
shows, making the tempo highly inconsistent," says Monsorate
who is thrilled about the prospect of making it to the
longlist. (The award nominations will be announced on January
14, 2016, and the final ceremony will be held in Hollywood on
February 28.)

But the path to the golden statuette calls for a
large scale of luck and funds. "Sending out DVDs to
the 6,000-plus members of the Academy whose votes
will decide the film's fate will cost us a few
crores of rupees," says the low-profile Barretto,
who set sights on his filmmaking journey in Class
IX of Goa's Loyola High School, when his brother
  gifted him an SLR camera.

"I'd joke with my friends that I'd make one film and stand
for elections," he says.

The words may not have turned out exactly prophetic, but they
did present a sense of deja vu for folks who lived in Goa in
the Sixties and Seventies, which the film embraces.

Barretto celebrates everyday village life in
Nachom-ia Kumpasar. People amble down red mud paths
or take short cuts through fields, shoes in hand.
As a young boy in his village of Galjibaga in Goa's
far south, it was common to see neighbours
returning home from the feast Mass, shoes dangling
by the laces and shoebites on the feet.

The film also reflects Goa's all-pervasive caste system
through its dress and colours -- muted shades for the upper
castes and bolder ones for the hoi polloi. And through the
same kaleidoscope, you see village fixtures from the Sixties
and Seventies come to life: the resident matchmaker pairing
off eligible singles at open-air wedding luncheons celebrated
in the courtyard; and young boys gossiping about the village
belles and their l

ENJOY THE GIFT OF GIVING

The Christmas is perhaps the best moment to be generous and magnanimous.
“Give and you shall receive”. Not everyone is bestowed upon with the gift
of sharing. You share because you believe in it and gives one immense
pleasure, joy and happiness and to the receiver too. Sharing is not only
with material, but ones time, concerns, feelings and words of consolations
The prison ministries, visit to old age homes, hospitals, literacy
campaigns, adult education tap your time and is more demanding than merely
offering money. Giving without expectations is very exceptional thought.
“Let your left hand not know what your right hand does”, Publicty in
sharing is seeking ones own reward and has its own merits Politicians,
businessman, philanthropists, and advertisers form this category. Public
display of charity touches the self respect and resent public display of
poverty and humiliations. It can also inspire others and motivate to do
likewise. The recipient may always not be in need of benevolence, but in
its acceptance, accentuates the feelings of joy, happiness of the donor.
There is not much to comment upon in sharing with what is extra, not of
use, left over after celebrations, about to be discarded anyway, like old
clothes, unused medicines, toys, books , magazines , news papers,
periodicals and other materials (jumble sales) or parting with only gifts
received from others. Special donations of various types, cooked food on
special occasions, food materials , bed linen, school uniforms, stationery
can be provided to orphans, old aged homes, destitute, widows needy and
deserving. Some religious orders have mandatory provisions of certain
percentage of income as compulsory donations annually and regularly Blood
donations of 350 ml out of 7 litres Is the most noble act of charity and
life giving, The inherent joy of giving enables the donor to grow in noble
ideas and uplift his spirit, The economic conditions of general public in
India, caste system, position of girl child, beliefs and cultural
traditions, provide ocean of opportunity to be succor the needy .The art
of giving is best directed towards charitable, organized NGO`S for
equitable distribution and accountability In times of natural disasters
like floods, earthquakes. These occasions provide avenues for those
emotionally touched to respond. to such situations .Govt too maintains
such funds under C.M. President, P.M, when donations receive incentive
deductions in income under 80G. Many a religious order have arrangements to
channelize such gifts in kind and money at old gage homes, orphanages,
abandoned children. neglected widows, suffering incurable diseases and
terminal illness, those incarcerated in hospitals , jails.

Everyone can give in relations to one has, which means all of us must
cultivate the sense of belongings towards less unfortunate People grudge,
grumble , and focus on self pity, creating greater selfish demands for
their own needs. Remember that the richest people are those who have fewer
wants The reluctance to part with is ingrained by nature and seen even in
toddlers

The inherent joy of giving is articulated by JOY OF GIVING FOUNDATIONS,
Giving is gracious act of self denial, attitude with a purpose of ensuring
the welfare of less unfortunate with whom you may not even be directly
connected

COMMENTS:
Lies and more lies have continued to dog Goans about the so called
Liberation of Goa on 19 December, 1961 and has continued for the past 54
years without being challenged. The Goa Su-Raj Party challenges this so
called Liberation on the grounds of the following arguments.

1. The Goa Su-Raj Party as taen full responsibility for the event that took
place at the Liberation Day parade at the Campal Parade Grounds, Panjim, 19
December, 2015. The Party affirms that the two Party members were present
for the function as invited guests through an official invite to the Party
from the Government of Goa. The least that the Government could have done
was to question the YOUTHS on their motives for this silent unprecedented
protest if it wanted to clear the air. Detaining the Party members like
common criminals shows that the Government of Goa has no stomach to redress
serious grievances of the youth of Goa.

2. If Goa was liberated as they are given to understand, then the
Government must tell them as to why Martial Law was imposed on Goans after
taking-over Goa from the Portuguese, using military force.

3. If Goa was liberated, then the youth of Goa wants to know as to why
our Governeor's Palace at Cabo, Panjim was looted of all antic furnitures
and prized paintings by the conquering forces, more specifically by K.P.
Candeth, in truckloads when he left Goa.

4. If Goa was liberated, then why is a FAKE leading Goa's Freedom Fighters
as the President of the Goa's Freedom Fighter's Association. Sham Sunder
Nagvekar from Moira is a Fake Freedom Fighter. His antecedants to prove
his involvement in the liberation struggle must be made public.

5. Why were Goan women raped if Goa was liberated.

6. Why were shops in Panjim , Margao and other cities and towns looted of
foreign good? Does this come under the scope of liberating indegenous
people of a country?

7. Why was the plebiscite as directed by the UN norms not conducted when
liberating indegenous people? What happened to the promises so profusely
given by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru that Goa's indentity shall be protected?
Is India not behaving like Portuguese Indians after dispatching the
Portuguese humiliatingly? Is what is happening to Goa not re-colonization
through fake agendas. I fact the Portuguese Indians were worst than the
Portuguese themselves.

8. Why is Special Status to Goa impossible under article 371 of the Indian
Constitution when the present Prime Minister of India had specifically
promised the same to Goans in Goa if he was elected the PM? Kam zalem Voiz
Melo??

9. Why is another airport at MOPA being promoted when the Navy is occupying
Goa's Civilian Airport at Dabolim illegally? Is it because India thinks
that it has digested Goa and now want to digest Goa's youths who were not
born at the time Goa was conquered and annexed to India (as per the Supreme
Court of India's ruling)?

10. Why is Goa being increasingly militarized? Is it on the enemy country's
borders?

11.Why did India not occupy present Bangladesh, then East Pakistan [1971]
when it liberated East Pakistan from Pakistan? Why did India pull back when
it had the right to stay there?. But did India have the right to stay in
Goa after driving away the Portuguese? Was Goa a part of India, when India
had its own Consulate in Goa during the Portuguese regime? Was Goa the
India's Constituent Assemble when India's Constitution was framed? Is Goa
in India's national anthem? If not why not, if Goa is and integral part of
India?

12. There are many countries and many languages in the African Continent,
but the people cannot be distinguished from one country and the other. So
why is the entire continent not called as the country AFRICA? Why Nigeria,
Why Ghana,Why Mozambique, Why Angola etc??? Was Goa not a part of the
Indian Sub-Continent? Who says Goa belongs to India? When did the country
called India come into existence?

13. By saying all this we are not amorous towards the Portuguese except
them giving us a reliable and much loved RULE OF LAW. Most of the guys who
go as Freedom Fighters were criminals lodged by the Portuguese in Aguada
Jail, who came out on 19 December, 1961 flyng India's Tri-Colours to
become Goa's Freedom Fighters. The Youth of Goa wants to know why
the immaculately kept files of Goa's Criminal elements that were maintained
at the Panjim's Police Head Quarters with front and lateral mug shots
burnt by Vishwanath Lawande and his accoplices in a born fire in the garden
court of the HQs?? Who allowed him to burn those files? And who allowed him

A year ahead of Liberation, Dominic Lacerda, in 1962 joined Her Majesty Ship
(HMS) Jauffair, the British Royal Navy at Bahrain but a year later in 1961,
India took over Goa and asked Britain how their subjects can be in a rival Navy
and whose side they take in case Britain and India go to war. Hence, Dominic
who hails from Utorda, had a choice to make and it was to either accept British
nationality or return to India. He immediately let go of the offer for British
nationality and returned his then Portuguese passport and opted for Indian
nationality.

“I wanted to be Indian and return to Goa to serve my land but I was blessed by
the Lord. I was allowed to work for the British Royal Navy for another ten
years right up to 1971. Until then, I visited 82 countries, got a medal from
the Queen for my services in the Yemen war and I went patrolling and exploring
Gibraltar, Mexico, Venezuela, the Mediterranean, the entire Gulf coast,
England, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Florida, Seattle, Bay of Bisque, Rome, Portugal
and most other parts of the world,” recollects Dominic who sits outside his
cold storage beef unit at Margao and talks of his adventures.

He remembers how he had to go from Bahrain to Iraq to visit the Indian high
commission to get his Indian passport - a decision he doesn’t regret.

Dominic who spent years writing for Vadreaddacho Ixtt in the 60s from his
global locations, returned to Goa to get into literature, writing, journalism,
theatre and drama. He did all that after his stint with the Sultanate of Oman
Navy for three years.

After his stint in 2 Navies, 87 countries, and a NATO Naval display and working
closely with submarines, Dominic still has a sharp memory and remembers his
Navy registration number (G/056934) where he feels honored that the Queen
presented him with a medal recognizing Goa as his hometown.

Dominic’s time in the USA, and being there when Richard Nixon was President and
his time at the Kenedy memorial and various parts of America is a distinct
memory. He also remembers watching Neil Armstrong live on a big screen while he
set foot on the moon.

At 77, ready to celebrate his Golden Wedding Anniversary, he continues to come
to his store and interact with customers, he continues to be the store that
brings in the intricate supplies of foods from the Gulf and he continues to
sell beef despite the difficulties.

“If I had crores of rupees, I probably wouldn’t travel the sea globally, search
waters, catch smugglers, have adventures in Aden and the rest of the world and
in no way would I would travel to 87 countr

Ask not what a (liberated) Goa can do for you.  Ask what you can do for
Goa.(Modified from John F Kennedy's Presidential inauguration speech)
Suggestions:
Actively work to throw out the corrupt politicians that Goans keep electing.(I
will actively be working for the (USA) Presidential candidate who is least
likely to take us to war).
Participate in the representative government with more volunteer work and less
speeches and writings.
Grow 6 fruit trees in your compound. Your children will not have to complain
about the lack-of and  high cost of native fruits (because the best Goan fruits
are exported).
Start some volunteer groups like Diabetes Association or Goa Cancer Society.
BE  THE  CHANGE  ONE  IS  SEEKING!
I had the pleasure of watching the newly started daily double-decker Goa-Mumbai
train.  I remember 20 years ago making the same trip fighting to get into the
train at Margoa and to my reserved seat; with my family and luggage.  And of
course 60 years ago it was even more difficult with train, bus, boat.
MERRY  CHRISTMAS!

[Goanet] THE LONG BROOM OF THE LAW WILL NOT SPARE REMO FERNANDES

2015-12-20 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The 17 year old accident victim Helen D’Souza who was recklessly knocked
down by the speeding car driven by Remo Fernandes’s son Jonah is so
overwhelmed by the number of so kind people visiting her at the Goa Medical
College and helping her and the family in one way or the other in their
days of distress.

Helen D’Souza who is in Ward No 105 at the Goa Medical College in Bambolim
has undergone another surgery and is hoping that all will be well as she
braces the nightmare of being bedridden for around six months.

Let us thank Rev. Fr Savio Barreto, the very proactive Director of Basilica
of Bom Jesus at Old Goa who has been a pillar of strength and hope to this
poverty stricken victim and her family. Fr Barreto is arranging to open a
bank account in the name of Helen D’Souza so that people around the world
desiring to help can directly pitch in. Shall share her bank account
details as soon as I receive it from Fr. Savio Barreto.

I have nothing personal against Remo Fernandes but his insensitive and
outrageous misconduct on 1st December at the scene of that accident and
thereafter needs to be strongly condemned by any sensible person. There can
be no room for any Celebrity arrogance. Am looking forward to that
defamation case Remo Fernandes has threatened to file against me. Will take
the Rock star bull by the horn. It should set an example to anyone else who
dares behave like Remo Fernandes did. Nobody can be above the law.

By the way, I do not need a character certificate from the likes of Remo
Fernandes. The families of his very own four musicians who were killed in a
road accident at Kanpur on 18th September 2000 are witness to the real and
sordid side of Remo Fernandes. If he had the audacity to fail and abdicate
his responsibility towards his own team of musicians nothing more could be
expected from Remo Fernandes who ironically in 2014 embracing that broom
was eyeing the Aam Aadmi Party ticket to be Goa’s Member of Parliament from
South Goa. God saved Goa from a looming disaster.

Let us continue to keep this grievously injured accident victim Helen
D’Souza in our thoughts and prayers while we continue to help her in
whichever way we can. Let us be there for her as she has been abandoned and
more so abused by the renowned pop singer Luis Remo de Maria Bernardo
Fernandes alias Remo Fernandes who has lost all moral authority to continue
holding the title of Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award
conferred on him by the President of India in 2007.

[Goanet] intellectual pride and arrogance

2015-12-20 Thread Nelson Lopes
Intellectual pride and arrogance

The outbursts of both Arvind Batikar and Uday Bembre smack of intellectual
pride and arrogance . An IAS officers post is and administrative positions
and not that of an Educationists. The love and concern for regional
languages have not made Model school to promote regional languages up to
Std X, The progress and prominence and calling in life of these stalwarts
and there children is due to proficiency in English. It is an old mentality
and apprehension of rise of common people through the vehicle of Education
and the so called illiterate parents have internalized the advantages of
such a decision. If Uday has no control and influence at home., Why does
he force his unsolicited Educational advice, theories of wisdom on others?
The flourishing of unabated private English medium schools with a large
strength are an affront to the cultural identity syndrome espoused. Are the
so called intellectuals can be presumed to be acting on their behalf and
not opposing the islands of privileged educational opportunities for the
rich,?. The rich have a choice. For 450 years of suppressed regional
language of cooks . buttlers did not obliterate Kon and Marathi as used
regional languages and non is accused of being a cultural misfit of the
time. It is the common people who have preserved the language in use
without script controversy and not Uday or Batikar or likes, Goans have
large presence in Maharashtra and sizeable population in Karnataka, where
reciprocal arrangements of learning regional language are not place nor
requested. It does not behoove intellectuals to denigrate Mr Lopes with
assumed Educational background and experience, without proper check. It
was expected that issues would be debated and not persons with knit
picking, background of the leader as incompetent. It is a shame and
disgrace not to bewell informed about educational, professional and
without doing a reality check of maligning Mr Lopes and that is
intellectual integrity, character at best. The DSE and authorities need no
front to represent their aspirations and the organization is well capable
of looking about its own interests. In fact in can be safely presumed that
both these intellectuals are doing the bidding of someone else without
locus standi on their own volition and without parents involvement., The
grants to primary education come from all tax payers .Anyway the Marathi
and Kanada, Urdu medium schools are not denied grants, then what is the
case for acting like dog in the manger attitudes of a motley few .? The
parents have right to decide the future of their children like Batikar and
Uday, and Court has pronounced that medium of instructions cannot be
forced. The compulsory subject of Kon is sufficient to meet all oppositions
.many of the successful individuals to day have neither studied Kon or
Marathi and that has been no hindrance to their careers. The script is
also a hindrance for so called National integration, when compulsory Hindi
as the subject can meet the requirements .Force is not contesting the
spread of Marathi et al, but the fact of their diminishing status is
worrying the protagonists.

Mr Lopes has the whole hearted support of all concerned and is
successfully leading the movement from the front admirably and must be
emphasized is not an arm chair specialist, ensconced in some archives., The
willingness to discuss with Smiti Irani, is ludicrous for similar reasons,
if at all as an Central education Minister, whose qualifications for the
post are a controversy in public domain. The first CM of Goa gave a push
to education after liberation and is a wise educationist without
qualifications, but with the vision of experience, Other Ministers of
Education did not boast of formal College degrees and yet they have
contributed humbly to the spread and quality of education .We may ask who
is the educationist conferred with the privilege to be called so ?

The elected Govt, assurances must be allowed to prevail and decisions
cannot be selectively questioned to cast aspersions and to intimidate.
Intellectuals with legal mind must better understand at forcing under
pressure cabinet decisions

The running down of person of Force leader is uncharitable, demeaning and
unbecoming of so called intellectual giants and have received condemnation,
where the opinions are printed .Great minds only discuss ideas and which
unfortunately Uday and Arvind have arrogantly refused to do publicly
,citing differences of so called intellectuals levels.

The parents with their varied experiences, practical wisdom and without any
formal education, degrees at times have gathered around the leader,
reposing faith in his sincerity for the future of their children Imputing
motives are undesirable and cowardice acts

The attempt to divide people on religious, communal. Language issues is
fraught with dangerous consequences and can ignite passions badly

*AIFF MEETS FOR ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING IN GOA*

*AIFF Media Team*

*MARGAO:* Mr. Praful Patel, President, All India Football Federation
Chaired AIFF’s Annual General Body Meeting which was held at Hotel Ramada,
Goa on Sunday (December 20, 2015).

Besides Mr. Patel, AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das, Vice-Presidents
Mr. Subrata Dutta, Mr. Subhash Chopra, Mr. Shrinivas Dempo, AIFF Executive
Committee Members and members from Member Associations (except Haryana and
Nagaland) also attended the Meeting, as did the two affiliated units – SSCB
and RSPB.

Speaking on the occasion, the AIFF President mentioned that it is time for
all the State Associations to become “more accountable.”

“I feel many States are not doing enough. If Indian Football as a whole has
to grow, we need more wholehearted support and participation,” he added.
“We will soon be going to rank the States much like the Licensing criteria
which is in existence for the I-League Clubs. There has to be
accountability from all the State Associations,” he informed.

“AIFF is the custodian of Football in India and we are here to give a
direction to Indian Football. For that, all the States need to move in
sync,” he stated.

Mentioning that the idea is to take the game to all corners of the Country,
Mr. Patel lauded the support and supply line of Players from the North East
Region of the Country.

“North East is the backbone of Indian Football at the moment. Furthermore,
if you look at Kashmir, there were around 18000 people cheering for
LoneStar FC when they played their Home matches in the 2nd Division League.
The diversification of Football is so positive,” he opined.

“One of the primary reasons for bidding for the 2017 U-17 World Cup was to
start a new Footballing Culture in the Country. We have made a beginning
and hope it will usher in a new era and give a new dimension to the sport
in the Country.”

Mr. Patel also stressed on developing an “ecosystem for Football.”

“We have introduced an U-15 League and the response has been so
encouraging. The idea is to develop an entire ecosystem of Football. Indian
Football is not long away; it’s on the horizon,” Mr. Patel pronounced.

AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das highlighted that the AIFF is
addressing the “transition phase” to produce better Players.

“The kids who have been identified at the GR level need to be engaged in
the YDP and we are working on that,” he said.

Mr. Das also stressed on AIFF’s “zero tolerance policy on corruption
related to the Sport.”

“The AIFF has maintained a zero tolerance on corruption. We have conducted
Workshops with FIFA and even have an Integrity Officer on board.
Maintaining integrity is not just about fighting match fixing. It
percolates down to all the Administrators who run the State FA, Clubs and
the AIFF. In fact, we at AIFF have signed a code of ethics to address the
issue,” Mr. Das echoed.

Meanwhile, Mr. Patel also announced the recipients of the eight 2015 AIFF
Awards. A detailed report on the Award winners can be found on

*BALA DEVI IS 2015 AIFF WOMAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR*

*By Joseph Solomon,*

*AIFF Media Team*

*NEW DELHI: *After she scored 16 goals in 5 matches in the SAFF Women’s
Championship in Pakistan in 2014 to propel India to the Gold Medal, they
said that Bala Devi can score goals with her eyes closed. You mention it to
her and the lanky striker laughs it off.

All India Football Federation had lauded the current Indian Captain with
the AIFF Women’s Player of the Year Award in 2014, a feat which she
“cherishes” so much.

But she has followed it up by winning the 2015 AIFF Woman Footballer of the
Year. “Winning the first Award in 2014 was so satisfying. Retaining it was
a challenge and more satisfying,” she tells www.the-aiff.com.

“I thank the AIFF for their constant support and help. I revere the Awards
lauded to me by the AIFF a lot and these are the things which matter the
most to you as a Player,” she adds.

“They are an indication that the hard work you put in throughout the course
of the Year was in the right direction. At the same time, they inspire and
motivate you a thousand-folds to play your heart out on
