Re: [Goanet] ELECTION PROMISES CANNOT BE ALIKE CHINA MADE GOODS WITHOUT A GUARANTEE OR WARRANTY

2020-09-26 Thread Roland Francis
Promises, honour, character, good intentions and credibility are all alien
words to Goan politicians.

They don’t keep their own promises and you expect them to heed the promises
made by a now-dead man?

Just beat them where it hurts them - their pockets.

[Goanet] ELECTION PROMISES CANNOT BE ALIKE CHINA MADE GOODS WITHOUT A GUARANTEE OR WARRANTY

2020-09-26 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Keep every promise you make and only make promises you can keep. It is only
people with good intentions that make promises but only people with good
character that keep them.

This government must fulfill that solemn promise made in August 2017 by the
then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to the residents of Ribandar that he
would ensure that within three months full Medical care services and
facilities would be restored at the old Goa Medical College Hospital at
Ribandar.

[Goanet] INDIA's RAPE CULTURE THRIVING

2020-09-26 Thread Eddie
In the latest episode, a 20-year-old woman from western Uttar Pradesh is
fighting for her life in the intensive care unit of a government hospital
after she was gang-raped and brutally assaulted by four men from her
village. The girl belongs to the Scheduled Castes community, while all four
accused are from a so-called upper caste. The incident allegedly happened on
September 14.
Doctors say the woman has multiple fractures all over her body and her
tongue was cut too. Her condition in critical.

The victim and her mother had gone to a field for some grass. 4 or 5 men
came from behind, threw my sister's dupatta around her neck and dragged her
and raped her.
The police acted only after four-five days, her brother said. The police
claim they have arrested all the four accused, charged them with gang-rape
and murder, and sent them to jail.

But the police are known to lie.
SOURCE: NDTV news

UP, with a population of 220 million (more than three times that of
Britain) is the most rape prone State.
It is ruled by a semi-literate anti-Muslim CM called Adityanath Yogi,
appointed by Modi's BJP regime.

A FEW EXAMPLES:
June 2014: two teen sisters were abducted by three men, taken to the woods
and gang-raped. The incident happened in the Etah district of western UP.
May 2014: LACK OF TOILET FACILITIES forces girls out to open fields,
inviting rape
Badaun: On the night of May 28, two girls, aged 14 and 15 years, stepped
out of their house in Katra village, in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, to
relieve themselves.
They were allegedly abducted and raped by some men from the same village;
their bodies were found hanging from a tree the next day.
In rural India, the acute shortage of basic facilities like bathrooms forces
women and girls to venture out to the open fields - also makes them
vulnerable to horrific sexual violence.
Nearly two months ago, four girls from Bhagana in Haryana, who had stepped
out to answer nature's call, were picked up from right outside their
residence. They were raped and then dumped at the Bhatinda railway station
in Punjab. Over 80% of rural population defecate in the open.

June 2014: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped, forced to drink
acid and later strangled to death in Baheri area in Bareilly in Uttar
Pradesh.

Her face was mutilated to hide her identity and later strangled.

In Oct 2017 ( NEWSCLICK), two minors were raped in Baghpat and Shahjahanpur
(UP). The cases were reported to the police but no action taken. That led
the culprits to rape again. The victims committed suicide .

Over 95 rapes are believed to be committed each day in India.

[Goanet] The Jesuits are completing 480 years on 27th September 2020

2020-09-26 Thread Tony de Sa
Oh dear, the Reverend has omitted two Jesuits in his list of prominent
Jesuits. These two I am referring to had a profound influence on the lives
of a generation of Xavierites of Mapusa.

Fr. Edward D'Cruz founded St. Xavier;s College in Bastora - Goa's premier
college. Without it, many of us would not be what we are today.

Fr. Joseph Pallithanam, who was a scientist, ruled the Botany department of
St. Xavier's college with an iron hand. He also was a guardian of the
morals of the students and was famous for his little pamphlets on various
aspects of behaviour and morals. He was pretty good at cartooning too and
would often embellish his notices with cartoons. Some of the lessons he
taught us while maintaining our botany journals can never be forgotten. His
insistence on clean lines in drawing, horizontally placed labels, no over
writing and no ugly erasures. He was a stickler for work being submitted on
time. These things in later life became a way of life - not to mention that
people (your truly included) who couldn't draw for nuts became fairly
skilled at drawing.

[Goanet] The Jesuits are completing 480 years on 27th September 2020

2020-09-26 Thread Pratap Naik
The Jesuits from 27.09.1540 to 27.09.2020 are completing 480 years

We are the Society of Jesus, a Roman Catholic order of priests and brothers
founded by the soldier-turned-mystic Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556) from
Basque region of Spain, with six of his early companions, namely, Francis
Xavier, Peter Faber, Alfonso Salmeron, Diego Lainez, Nicolas Bobadilla, and
Simão Rodrigues in 1539 and officially approved on 27th September 1540 by
Pope Paul III. But most people call us “the Jesuits.”
In the vision of our founder, we seek to “find God in all things.” We
dedicate ourselves to the “greater glory of God” and the good of all
humanity. And we do so gratefully in collaboration with others who share
our values, including laypersons. They have become part of the “we,” the
extended Jesuit family.
With 16,000-plus priests, brothers, scholastics, and novices worldwide, we
are the largest male religious order in the Catholic Church. We are
pastors, retreat directors, counsellors, and chaplains. We are also
teachers, doctors, lawyers, writers, poets, artists, researchers,
scientists, media persons, and astronomers, among many other roles in
Church and society. In our varied ministries, we care for the whole person:
body, mind, and soul. And especially in our education ministries, we seek
to nurture “men and women for others.”
Jesuits draw on the rich tradition of Ignatian spirituality and reflection.
In our retreat centres, parishes, campus ministries, and other settings, we
offer these resources to all who want to discern God’s presence in their
lives. At the same time, we also aim to be “contemplatives in action,”
people who bring this spirituality into the wide world. That includes our
work on behalf of global justice, care for our planet, peace, and dialogue.
Our Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAP) for 2019-2029 are 1. Showing the
way to God. Show the way to God through the spiritual Exercises and
discernment. 2. Walking with the Excluded. Walk with the poor, the outcasts
of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of
reconciliation and justice. 3. Journeying with Youth. Accompany young
people in the creation of a hope-filled future. 4. Caring for our Common
Home. Collaborate, with gospel depth, for the protection and renewal of
God’s creation. We accept these UAP as a mission of the Church through Pope
Francis, who has approved them.

Four Vows
As members of a religious order, Jesuits take three vows — of poverty,
chastity, and obedience — and a fourth vow of obedience specifically in
regard to worldwide mission. In other words, Jesuits must be ready to
accept whatever mission the Pope requires, a vow that is reflective of our
broader dedication to the universal Church, and to the greater good of all
people from all faiths and cultures.
Our collaboration with the laity flows from our personal relationships with
Christ. We see ourselves as companions of Jesus, and we invite others to
join with us, as friends in the Lord. Together we build up the body of
Christ.
With our friends and partners, we also reach out to a broadly diverse world
because that’s where God is. From experience and reflection, we know that
meaning, value, and divine purpose can be discovered “in all things.”
So far, I am the only Jesuit from my father’s and mother’s household.
Others are diocesan clergy and one Dominican priest. My parents gave me the
baptismal name Stanislaus of a Jesuit saint Stanislaus Kostka
(28.10.1550-15.08.1568), from Poland. From their wedding day they prayed
everyday that God may call all or at least one of their children to serve
Him and His people. Probably they never thought that one day I would join
the Jesuits!!! I studied from second standard to B.Sc. in Hindu management
school and college. Hence, I did not have any personal contact with
Jesuits. I received my vocation in 1967 through the Jesuit Konknni monthly
“Jezu Rai” (“Soldiers of God” English monthly in colours published by Fr.
Wenisch, S. J. of Madurai Jesuit Province and it was translated into many
Indian languages). Then, I began to read the lives of Jesuit saints and
blessed in Konknni in Kannada script from my daddy’s collection of books.
Jesuit Blessed and Mexican martyr Fr. Miguel Pro’s life made deep
impression on me. From day one, my decision was to join the Jesuits, though
I had great respect and excellent relationship with diocesan priests and
Capuchin priests.
As we complete 480 years, kindly pray for us Jesuits and myself. We are
sinners and weak persons. We rely on your continuous prayers and support to
become the effective instrument in the hands of God. May God bless us all.
Some of the well-known Jesuit scientists are Christopher Clavius
(1538-1612), Hieroymus Fabricius (1537-1619), José de Acosta (1540-1600),
Christopher Scheiner (1575-1650), Pierre Gassendi (1592-1655), giovanni
riccioli (1598-1671), Johann Adam S. von Bell (1592-1666), Athanasicus
Kircher (1602-1680), Francesco Grimaldi (1618-1663), Ferdinand

[Goanet] GOA’S POLITICAL CRAP STINKS

2020-09-26 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Highly condemnable is the so outrageous manner in which Justice P.K. Misra
was ill treated after relinquishing office as Goa Lokayukta on September
17. The very next day his official car was withdrawn so was his security
cover and staff at his official bungalow. The outstanding 73 year old
former Chief Justice of the Patna High Court should have been treated
courteously especially after the yeoman service he rendered to the State as
Lokayukta and earlier as Chairman of Goa Human Rights Commission. The
manner in which Justice Misra was humiliated is very revengeful but comes
as no surprise being an act of ruthless politicians who cannot deal with
the truth.

In 1999 we saw how then Chief Secretary S.R.Sharma was so unceremoniously
suddenly moved out of Goa. His office at the Secretariat was locked by the
political masters while he was left stranded with his vehicle and even the
staff at his official bungalow withdrawn.

Very sad memories also still linger of yet another very
upright DGP R.S.Sahaye who was suddenly and very rudely shunted out of Goa
in 2000. An extremely heartbroken 55 year old R.S.Sahaye returned to Delhi
and soon breathed his last after a massive heart attack. I met him just
before he left Goa and after a long chat with that refined officer, I could
sense how bitter he was over the very shabby treatment meted out to him for
refusing to toe the line and bow to the whims and fancies of the political
masters.

Justice P.K.Misra will leave Goa with similar bitter memories on how he was
awfully ill treated after his retirement by a State which is otherwise
known worldwide for its hospitality.

Tiny acts of kindness can yield big results. Vengeful acts can only come to
haunt the wrongdoers. It’s called Karma! Sylvester Stallone, the famous
actor observed ‘There’s a natural law of karma that vindictive people, who
go out of their way to hurt others, will end up broke and alone’.
