[Goanet] Press Conference

2023-04-13 Thread Nicholas Dias
Fr. Nicholas Dias here from Delhi Archdiocese & Chaplain for Federation of
All-India Anglo-Indians (FAIAI), originally from Benaulim-Goa.

Kindly send your representative at 4 pm.

PRESS RELEASE for Saturday, April 15, 2023)

The leaders of the Federation of Anglo-Indian Associations (FAIAI) in
India, along with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Dias, Chaplain for Anglo-Indians, who
is originally from Benaulim-Goa, met His Eminence Cardinal Filipe Neri
Ferrao, President of the Council of Catholic Bishops in India (CCBI). The
leaders sought the help and support of the Cardinal in identifying and
reorganising Anglo-Indians in various parishes in the country.

In the circumstances the representations in Parliament and State
Legislatures for Anglo-Indians were snatched away by the unreasonable
attitude of the Central Government on the pretext that 'According to census
report of 2011 the number of Anglo-Indians are only 296 and they are well
off ', the Federation of Anglo-Indian Associations in India is on an effort
to conduct a survey to ascertain the number of Anglo-Indians in the
country.

By the intervention of Rev. Fr. Nicholas Dias, several Anglo-Indians have
been identified in the Archdiocese of Delhi, and the Federation wants the
support of CCBI to extend this into other areas of the country.

Re: [Goanet] Press Conference - 3rd All India Tata Sky Volleyball Championship

2016-04-14 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
Times of India report has all the details, so what is this Press confernce
for? Prakash Dessai?

Cuncolim Union will satiate the thirst of volleyball lovers for top-notch
volleyball action after confirming the third edition of the All India
volleyball tournament which will commence on April 19.

The five-day tournament has attracted top teams from across the country and
will be played at the Cuncolim volleyball court, near the bus stand.
Matches will commence at 8pm and will be preceded by an entertainment
programme with plans afoot to invite Bollywood actor Nana Patekar for the
final to be played on April 23.

On the court, the action could be explosive as defending champions Haryana
State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) gets ready to defend their
title. The defending champions, though, will face stiff resistance from
ONGC Dehradun, who are returning to Goa after missing out on last year's
event due to suspension. They will be joined by Bharat Petroleum
Corporation Ltd (BPCL), who will be favourites for the title, alongside
Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and LIC Mumbai.

"We have a better line-up of teams this year. I am sure that volleyball
fans from across the state will be delighted with what these teams have to
offer," said Cuncolim Union president Elvis Gomes.

International players like Tom Joseph, Jerome Vinith, Ranjit Singh,
Subbarao, Vinit Kumar, Sarang Lal, Kartik and Marshall Thomas are expected
to be part of the tournament. Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai, who have
several international players in their ranks had also confirmed
participation but pulled out after three of their star players picked up
injuries last week.

The Goan interest at the tournament will be kept alive by Cuncolim Union
who have invited outstation players to represent them. Goa's best players
like Rama Dhawaskar (Papu) and Aaron Pereira will be part of the Cuncolim
Union squad and will be joined by outstation players in an attempt to at
least qualify for the semifinals.

[Goanet] Press Conference Launch of Alumni Survey by CII Education, Social Development & CSR Panel - Tuesday, 21st Oct 2014 at 1600 Hrs at Hotel Mandovi, Panaji

2014-10-20 Thread CIIGOA
Dear Members of Press & Electronic Media,

Greetings from CII Goa,

In a first of its kind attempt to obtain feedback from its graduates and
post graduates, CII in association with Goa University, is launching an
Online Survey to obtain feedback from its Alumni. The survey is conducted by
Learning Outcomes, Goa and is designed for easy access on the Android mobile
platform and also on a desktop using the Chrome browser.

In this regard a Press Conference is being scheduled on Tuesday, 21st Oct
2014 at 1600 Hrs at Hotel Mandovi, Panaji which would be addressed by Dr
Satish Shetye, Vice Chancellor, Goa University, Chairman CII Goa Council and
the Mentor, CII Education, Social Development & CSR Panel.

The survey seeks to record the career path of the alumni. It will identify
how many are seeking jobs, or are pursuing higher studies or are holding a
job. Graduates/ post graduates passing after 2010 can opt to provide details
of the first 3 significant jobs in their career. The survey will track the
time to get the first job, the remuneration, responsibilities and
organisation they joined. We seek information on job location, to provide
data to the policy makers about out-migration for jobs.

The alumnus can further provide inputs on the 3 subjects that he learnt,
that helped his career, 3 subjects that should have been covered extensively
and would help in the career and of course 3 subjects that did not benefit
the career and could be dropped. This would give relevant inputs to the
University Board of Studies in framing the syllabus to make it more
relevant.

It needs to be emphasised that the survey is designed to ensure security of
personal information. The database of alumni logging in with their name,
graduation details and email ID will be separate from the database of
graduate data, career feedback and the inputs for curriculum etc. Personal
data and email ID input of the alumnus will generate a link to the database
with an encrypted id which will be emailed to the alumnus. This email
verification ensures data credibility.

May I request you to kindly send in your confirmation for the Press
Conference. I look forward to meeting you at the Hotel Mandovi, Panaji on
Tuesday, 21st Oct 2014.

The location of this alternate site is safer for the environment and all

[Goanet] PRESS CONFERENCE JOINTLY ORGANIZED BY DALGADO KONKNNI AKADEMI, JAGOTIK KONKNNI SONGHOTTON, ROMI LIPI ACTION FRONT AND TIATR ACADEMY GOA

2013-09-25 Thread Jose Fernandes
*PRESS CONFERENCE JOINTLY ORGANIZED BY*

*DALGADO KONKNNI AKADEMI,
JAGOTIK KONKNNI SONGHOTTON, *

*ROMI LIPI ACTION FRONT AND TIATR ACADEMY GOA*

* *

* *

* *

1. This has reference to the Press Conference given by Goa Konkani
Academy (GKA) yesterday (23.09.2013) and to the numerous faulty statements
made by Shri Pundalik Naik, President of GKA.

2. It is unfortunate to observe that a literary institution like
GKA is opposed to giving awards to Konknni in Romi script. This only proves
the selfish attitude of promoting Devnagari script by destroying the Romi
script in Goa. They tried to do so in the past and failed miserably.

3. These four organizations namely, Dalgado Konknni Akademi,
Jagotik Konknni Songhotton *(Global Konknni Organisation)*, Romi Lipi
Action Front and Tiatr Academy Goa strongly support the decision taken by
the Chairman of Kala Academy and Hon’ble MLA of St. Andre Constituency,
Shri Vishnu Surya Wagh for giving separate literary award not only to
Konknni in Romi script but also for books in English and in other regional
languages written by Goans. In fact this decision must be hailed by all the
persons of literature because Shri Vishnu Surya Wagh has recognized the
literary creativity not only in Konknni and Marathi but also in other
languages used by Goans.

4. GKA has not projected factual position of literary awards as
far as Goa Kala Academy is concerned. Goa Kala Academy has been awarding
literary awards to Konknni in Devnagari script as well as to Konknni in
Romi script since the inception of literary awards by Kala Academy. There
are so many writers of Konknni in Romi script who have received such awards
in the past.

5. It was in 1987 that the Official Language Act (OLA) of Goa was
passed and fraudulently it was mentioned in the Act that Konknni in
Devnagari script will be the Official Language. In fact this was the great
betrayal to the protagonists of Konknni in Romi script because of whose
support the Konknni language became the Official Language of Goa.

6. It is after the Act was implemented that some leaders of
Devnagari lobby such as Adv. Uday Bhembre, Pundalik Naik, Naguesh Karmali,
Arvind Bhatikar, Fr. Mousinho Ataide and others worked directly or
indirectly to stop the promotion and development of Konknni in Romi script.
Their selfish actions are :

a) They stopped Kala Academy from giving awards to Konknni in Romi
script as they controlled the committees of Kala Academy. The reason given
was that the OLA recognizes Konknni in Devnagri script only.

b) GKA did not help in any way for the promotion and development of
Konknni in Romi script. It was only in 2005 that the Goa Govt., with a
resolution passed in the Goa Assembly, directed the GKA to provide funds
for the promotion and development of Konknni in Romi script.

c) This lobby has succeeded in manipulating the Konknni movement at
all levels. At the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi their manipulative tactics
have helped them to keep away the protagonists of Konknni in Romi script,
since the recognition of Konknni by Sahitya Akademi in 1976. This is
proved from the facts that the advisory bodies appointed by the Sahitya
Akademi have 10 out of 10 members who are the supporters of Devnagari
script. Their strategy is such that they appoint some Christians to the
advisory bodies to show that they include everyone. However, the Christians
who are appointed are basically the supporters of Devnagari script.

With all these actions, it only proves that Devnagari lobby is all out to
destroy Konknni in Romi script.

7. Because Kala Academy stopped giving Literary Award to Konknni
in Romi script and GKA refusing to support Konknni in Romi script, the
protagonists of Konknni in Romi script agitated. They appealed to the
political leadership of Goa as well as to the lovers of Konknni language to
give justice to Konknni in Romi script. As a result of this, the then Govt.
of Goa, including the Opposition, was compelled to pass resolution in Goa
Assembly to direct GKA to promote and develop Konknni in Romi script also.

8. It is due to the direction of Govt. that GKA were compelled to
support Konknni in Romi script since 2005. It is completely wrong to make
it appear that they supported Konknni in Romi script out of their free
will.

9. It is also wrongly informed by GKA that they supported
Government’s decision to get Govt. grants to Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA)
for the promotion and development of Konknni in Romi script. In fact, they
opposed even at the last moment and tried to stop the then Chief Minister
to give grants to DKA but in vain.

10. Protagonists of Konknni in Romi script continued their fight with
Kala Academy to restore the Literary Award to Konknni in Romi script. The
protagonists of Konknni in Romi script also demanded that Award for Konknni
in Romi script should be given in a separate category. This is needed

[Goanet] PRESS CONFERENCE AT NANUTEL - 17 APRIL 2013 TO DECLARE " ONLY DABOLIM" ... "NO to MOPA" ... "NAVY GET OUT" - A REPORT

2013-04-17 Thread floriano lobo
At the Press Conference held at the Nanutel, Margao, in the presence of
Radharao Gracias and Churchill Alemao, the following press statement has been
released by Floriano Lobo who was part of the Press Conference.

He started by saying that he was not sitting along with the UGDP and the
CONGRESS, but with LIKE-MINDED GOANS who want [Pointing to the back-drop
behind] which read as under:-

ONLY DABOLIM

NO TO MOPA

NAVY GET OUT

When a press photographer, Mr. Arvind Tengse, pick-up an argument with Floriano
Lobo accusing him of promoting 'sedition' and telling him "IF YOU DON'T LIKE
INDIA, YOU MAY LEAVE" , the response that he got for his accusation not only
shut him up completely, to the myrth of the other press persons, but made him
quietly eat the food and leave. He was told that if he desired more, then he
should not run away, that he should be a man and face the oponent, boldly with
an argumentative mind. He was reminded that he was there to listen and
report, not to put words into the mouths of those who were supposed to talk.
If he wanted to be a goat to be lead by the collar rope, it was fine, that
Floriano Lobo will not be and is not a goat to be lead by India to proclaim
that he is INDIAN. "I am a GOAN" he shouted at him. But if I have to call
myself INDIAN, then I must be given that choice to choose my citizenship which
has been denied to me after 1961. Where is the Plebiscite as mandated by the
UN? he asked.

When Arvind Tengse said "YOU MEAN TO SAY THAT OUR FREEDOM FIGHTERS HAVE
SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES FOR NOTHING?" he was told in no uncertain terms that his
beloved freedom fighters have failed to hold Nehru to his flowery promises and
went on the band-wagon of the 'AGD' which was nothing but the mob bankrolled by
INDIA to take GOA into the Indian Union. Shame on your peers, he told him. If
they had been faithful to their GOA, Goa would have gotten the SPECIAL STATUS
UNDER ARTICLE 371 OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION LONG LONG BACK, and we didn't
have to hold our elected MLAs to ransom, cajole and coax them into sitting down
to pass a RESOLUTION in the Goa Legislative Assembly like what they have done
on the 15 of April 2013, 49 long years after Goa got , so called, liberated.

PRESS STATEMENT against MOPA AIRPORT and against the Indian NAVY continuing
at Dabolim.

As the Representative of:

1. Goa Su-Raj Party - GSRP

2. Goemchea Rakhondarancho Awaz - GRA

3. Goa Environmental Action Group - GEAG

4. People for Political Sanity - PPS

I take pride in announcing that all these organizations have taken a stand that:

(1) All further developmental work w.r.t. the proposed MOPA AIRPORT must
cease forthwith. This proposal is not in the interest of Goa and Goans and is
viewed as the back-door MERGER of GOA into Maharashtra, as this airport will
help the State of Maharashtra more than it will help the State of Goa.

(2) That the commissioning of MOPA International Airport, if at all, will
help the NAVY to strengthen it's strangle-hold on Dabolim to digest it as a
Naval Airport, which Goa can ill afford.

(3) That Dabolim Airport is Goa's Civilian Airport which existed as such
since prior to the Indian Invasion and annexation of Goa on December 19, 1961
and which airport has been occupied by the Indian Navy illegally. The Navy must
prepare to move out on immediate basis from Dabolim to hand-over Goa's Civilian
Airport to Goa's Civilian Authorities.

(4) That entire Goa will be increasingly getting into the 'AGITATIONAL
MODE' in days to come until the proposed MOPA Airport is scrapped altogether
and the acquired lands handed-over back to the people/farmers and until the
Indian Navy at Dabolim' which is classified as 'VERY SMALL DEFENCE ENCLAVE' is
dismantled to make room for the setting up of 'Dr. Jack De Sequeira
International Airport' at Dabolim-Goa. Goa positively does not have the
capacity to shoulder the responsibilities of hosting the entire Defence of the
Indian Nation at the very cost of it's own survival. Goans demand that the
promises made by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru before Goa was annexed be fulfilled in
toto, even if it has taken 52 years. A nation like India cannot afford to
forget it's own promises made to the people of Goa and holds it accountable for
those promises.

(5) That the organizations mentioned above will complement and support the
efforts put-in in this direction by the newly formed 'GOANS FOR DABOLIM ONLY'
and all others to make it an ALL GOA MOVEMENT AGAINST MOPA AND THE INDIAN NAVY
CONTINUING AT DABOLIM.

[Goanet] PRESS CONFERENCE REG. CITIZEN CHARTER BILL REPORT

2012-08-29 Thread SHANTARAM NAIK
POINTS MADE BY SHRI SHANTARAM NAIK M.P., CHAIRMAN, STANDING COMMITTEE OF
PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES, LAW AND JUSTICE AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE IN
PARLIAMENT HOUSE TODAY

Standing Committee of Parliament of the Department of Personnel, Public
grievances , Law and Justice, headed by its Chairman Shri Shantaram Naik M.P.
in his report submitted today, in both the Houses of Parliament on The Right
of Citizens for Time Bound Delivery of Goods and Services and Redressal of
their Grievances Bill, 2011 (popularly called as Citizen Charter Bill) has
recommended against providing any appeal against the decision of Central/State
Commissions to Lokpal/Lokayukt, which is provided presently under the bill.

DE-LINK THE BILL FROM LOKPAL/LOKAYUKT

Addressing a press conference in Parliament House on Tuesday, Mr Naik said the
Committee does not find much justification in providing for appeal with the
Lokpal/Lokayukta against the decision of the Central/State Commission. Such a
linkage, in Committee’s view, is unfounded as the institution of Lokpal has
been set up under a different legislation aiming to put in place an anti
corruption institution while the objective of the present Bill is to ensure
timely delivery of goods/services and grievance redressal

Besides, the Bill already provides for three levels of appeal up to the level
of the Commission and , adding another level of appeal above the Commission
level does not seem to be called for and hence has recommended the deletion of
the provisions of the Bill which provide for preference of appeal to the
Lokpal/Lokayukta against the decision of the Central/State Commissions.

SERVICES OF SHORTEST NATURE

Mr Naik said that different kinds of services will require different time-limit
for compliance however rules that will be framed by the Central and State
Governments may suitably provide for the shortest possible time for delivery
of goods and services of common nature.

VIOLATION OF LAW, POLICY, SCHEME WILL BE SUBJECT OF GRIEVANCE

In the Committee’s view, the definition of the term ‘Complaint’ is
comprehensive enough so as to cover not only the cases of failure to deliver
goods or render services in accordance with the Citizens Charter but also cases
where the Public Authority has violated any law, policy, scheme, order, etc.
and it should be possible for the Public Authority to handle the same within
the given parameters.

The Committee is of the firm opinion that issues related to violation of law,
policy, scheme, policy, etc are vital and the same cannot be kept outside the
purview of the grievance redress mechanism. However, in case it is felt that
such matters require some different time schedule for adjudication, the
Ministry may examine the issue and provide appropriately in the Bill, report
says.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO THE STATES TO IMPLEMENT THE LAW

Explaining the contents of the report further , Mr Naik said that the issue of
meeting the financial requirements for the implementation of the Bill in
respect of services in the States have to be addressed by the Central
Government and the State Governments themselves. Services and goods are to be
provided on time by the State Government in their respective departments.

However since we are enacting a loaded legislation for them, it is the duty of
the Central Government to share some financial burden in this regards lest, the
law remains unenforceable, partly or otherwise, Mr Naik added while explaining
Committee’s recommendations on this point.

GOVERNMENT SHOULD CONSIDER GIVING BENEFIT OF THE LAW TO FOREIGN CITIZENS AS
REGARDS SOME LIMITED SERVICES

Mr Naik said that the Committee would like the Ministry to review whether the
coverage of the Bill can be extended to the non citizens also. The Committee
notes the written comments of the Ministry wherein they have said that they are
open to suggestion in this regard. Government can consider notifying a few
limited services and goods as regards non-citizens rather than totally
excluding them. This may also help in establishing goodwill among with
international community, report says.

QUANTUM OF FINE ON ERRING PUBLIC SERVANTS

Mr Naik said that Rs 50,000 is the upper limit of the penalty that can be
imposed on the erring public servant under the bill. This being the maximum
limit of the penalty and the actual penalty being based upon the facts and
circumstances of the case, the Committee is not inclined to interfere in the
quantum of penalty prescribed in the Bill.

PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP IN FACILITATION CENTRES

Mr Naik said that the Committee appreciates the concept of Information and
Facilitation Centers envisaged in Chapter IV of the Bill and recommends to
Government to consider adopting private-public partnership model in the case of
these facilitation centers whereby some value added services could be added on
nominal/moderate payment basis.

Committee recommends that

GS Floriano Lobo addresses the Press

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF THE PRESS AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA

GSRP appreciates you taking time to attend this interaction and at the same
time thank you for the same.

The Main Programme today is the launching of the Party's Youth Wing in real
earnest. We shall hand you the leader of this youth wing Young Jocelyn
Pereira as soon as this brief is completed.

This Party has been in existence since the year 2000. As they say, a sapling
requires time to grow deep roots, this Party has been growing it's roots for
the past 12 years. Content with the below ground growth, so to speak, this
Party now wants to grow sky-wards and the target is the Goa Legislative
Assembly Elections - 2017.

This Party has already started the work of identifying the respective
candidates from various constituencies and intends to field not less than
thirty candidates ( if not more) in Elections-2017. Most of these slots will
be going to the YOUTH of GOA. The 2017 Election Campaign shall be led by me
(God willing) contesting from either Aldona or Porvorim Constituencies.

This Party is seized of multiple issues that are dividing Goans instead of
uniting them. Therefore this party has made it's stand clear with respect to
these various issues as stated in the Party's permanent manifesto, the ROAD
MAP FOR GOA. Governance cannot be on ad-hoc basis. This Party knows exactly
where GOA needs to go in this 21 century.

This Party's Manifesto for Elections- 2017 is contained in the package is
being given to you for reference along with the copy of the Party's ROAD
MAP FOR GOA.

This Party stands thus on the following issues:

1. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTIONS: This Party has a stand on this issue that
will satisfy one and all without endangering the well-being of the people of
Goa. It should not be the LANGUAGE that needs to be protected but the
well-being of the Primary Students of Goa.

2. MOPA - Is totally and completely undesirable and a catastrophe for
Goa. Dabolim is the Civilian Airport of GOA, most centrally located. The
Navy must relinquish it's illegal hold on this airport and move out, the
sooner the better.

3. MINING - Let it lie untouched and undisturbed since mining has not
benefited Goa and Goans and is not benefitting Goa and Goans, until a

4. comprehensive mining policy is brought about, discussed and debated
in the public arena and is accepted by the people of Goa.

5. That Goa needs to acquire SPECIAL STATUS through Special Provisions
of Article 371 of the Indian Constitution [not the economic or monetary
Special Status as is branded by the government], there is not doubt. Goa's
dwindling land and identity needs to be safeguarded and protected.

6. No piece of land must be given to the Central Agencies like MPT,
CISF, BSF, Army and the Navy. Goa is not the military back-yard of India and
Goa's militarization will not be permitted at all costs. Goa, as small that
it is does not have the obligation to cater to the security of this vast
nation at it's own cost.

7. This Party has taken up the issue of the dismissal from service of
the Police Sub-Inspector presently posted at Valpoi for brutally
man-handling this Party's Youth Wing Member Mr. Vincent Fernandes ( who is
present here). The representation made to the CM, Home Minister, Under
Secretary Law and the Governor of Goa is enclosed in the said packet to be
given to you. It is not right that such Police Officers should be extended
political patronage at the cost of the citizens of Goa.

Address of the Youth President

Amchea youth panelar boslele GSRP - youth wingacho General Secretary Bab Meg
Keni, North Goa Vice president bab Ramesh Malgi ani South Goa Vice president
Bai Gemma Noronha.

The primary reason for the GSRP youth wing convening this press conference
are two major youth issues that need immediate attention and action.
The first being the rising unemployment and the second the drug menace that
has begun to haunt Goan youth.

Our Goan youth today transcend religion and languages..There has been a huge
change in the outlook of the youth with the advent of the internet and we
are on the brink of a new order. Yet with all this progress we the Goan
youth are yet not on par with other developed states like ours as far as
employment is concerned.
Jobs by the previous and current government appear to be given on a basis of
familiarity to the political patronage rather than merit or government
procedures that are non-political.
As per the Economic Survey of Goa, the population in the State in the age
group between 10 - 20 is 2,45,000 who have/will enter the job market in next
few years and during the same period around 1,10,000

[Goanet] PRESS CONFERENCE OF SHANTARAM NAIK

2012-02-14 Thread SHANTARAM NAIK

14th Feb 2012

KEY POINTS MADE BY SHRI SHANTARAM NAIK M P AND CHIEF SPOKESPERSON OF GOA
PRADESH CONGRSSS COMMITTEE

Mr Shantaram Naik M P and Secretary AICC said , addressing a press
conference today in Congress House, Panaji ,today, that BJP ,day by
day, is loosing its identity as a political party in the country and is
becoming a nuisance in Indian politics ,and that, Parliamentary
democracy would be in danger if BJP is allowed to play its fascist
games, which the party plays during Parliamentary sessions.

Mr Naik said that BJP adopted a policy of not allowing
Parliament to function which goes to indicate that BJP is marching
towards fascism , in accordance with their fascist bosses, and
therefore, people of Goa, who have achieved the independence after 450
years of Portuguese rule , should keep BJP at a distance in the
interest of democracy and freedom.

BJP's role in stalling Parliament ,for the last one year , has
roughly caused loss of 1000 crores to the exchequer said Mr Naik and
added that such political parties should not have any place in democracy
, he said.

Mr Naik said that on the Lokpal Bill , BJP gave all the
indications to the Government that they would co-operate in getting the
bill passed and, at the end, played their most unethical game.

CITIZENS' CHARTER
Mr Naik said Central Government is proposing to enact a law
to provide for statutory and mandatory Citizens Charter to bring in more
transparency in Government administration.

For this purpose, a bill, entitled, " The Right of Citizens
for Time Bound Delivery Of Goods and Services and Reddressal Of their
Grievances Bill ,2011 has been introduced in the Lok Sabha.

Mr Naik said that within six months from the date of the
commencement of the Act , every public authority has to publicise a
Citizens Charter.

This Citizens Charter will ensure speedy and time bound
delivery of goods and services to the members of public and, each and
every aspect of Citizen Charter will be clearly publicised for the
benefit of the people and that, all the details of the Charter would be
compulsorily will be made available on the website, under the proposed
legislation.

WHISTLE BLOWER ACT

Similarly, Mr Naik said that Whistle blower Act is going
to be another step in the direction of bringing in transparency and
efficacy in the Government administration. Both these bills will be
vigorously implemented in Goa when they become the law.

But Mr Naik said that he was sure that BJP will not allow any of
these legislations passed on some pretext or the other , which is why,
Mr Naik said, that he feels that BJP is posing a danger to the
Parliamentary democracy.

BJP AND THE GARBAGE

Mr Parrikar is promising the electorate that he will solve the
garbage issue within three months but quetion that remains is, when Mr
Parrikar was Chief Minister for five years , why could he not solve
the problem ?

Besides, He always boasts that he can get the work done through
officers , and that , he does not require ministers for doing any of
his works If that be so, why is that Panaji is full of garbage ?

Mr Naik said some BJP MLAs have nursed their constituencies
better than Mr Parrikar.

Mr Naik said that BJP itself is a garbage which is stinking ,
due to its sectarian policies , and that, it should be burnt totally
and disposed of.

BJP' PUT FISHERMEN IN TROUBLE

Mr Naik said LOP Shri Manohar Parrikar ,it is learnt, is blaming
Congress on CRZ but, it is due to a petition by Shri Francisco Dsouza
,BJP MLA in the High Court that the fishermen of Goa came into deep
trouble.

It is the at the instance of Congress Party , that UPA Government
has given relief to the bonafide fishermen residing in coastal areas by
protecting their houses, Mr Naik said.

Dear Peter,
Thanks for the intro.
Yes, I have always remembered you for running the NCC cross-country at St.

Dear Floriano
Thanks a lot for your clarifications.  I recollect meeting you and
saying just "Hi" near the HDFC bank on my way to the present
"Fish Market" of Mapusa.  Rest of my experience in the fish
market I have explained to all in my last e-mail.

When I was a kid I remember visiting on my own the newly built Mapusa
Market when it was built somewhere in late 1950s on my bicycle just to see
the new wonder in Mapusa.  Now when I have crossed my 60s, I see the
sorry state of this market.  I wish the MNE the best of luck in the
forthcoming elections as you all have laid down openly what you intend
doing in Mapusa if you come in power, but I would also like to request
your team or anyone coming to power in Mapusa to please see that we the
older generation get a chance to see during our life time an improvement
of this facility which is in a very pathetic state at present.

Dear Peter,

Further to my response to your post below, I did say Portuguese built Mapusa
Municipal Market. However, I meant to say " Mapusa Municipal Market built
during the Portuguese era." There is a marked difference between the two.
The Portuguese did not build the Market for Mapusa per se. Goans in
authority did. Goans like the then President of the MMC Pinto Rosario, the
Architect/Engineer Armando Fonseca and the overall incharge at PWD Panjim
Mr. Vitorino Pinto who is presently in Switzerland heading WHO [if I am not
mistaken]. At my request to help us to design a modern Goa, he has responded
positively. Needless to say that Goans of yester years are still very much
concerned about what is happening to Goa and Mapusa.

I love the manifesto of the MNE as detailed by Floriano on the
Goanet.  They have covered most of the immediate requirements of our
lovely Mapusa. The most important item which has not received their
attention is the improvement in the Mapusa Fish Market as there in no
mention of it anywhere.  Can this market be demolished/rebuilt to
bring it up to some quality and sanitation standards?  During the past
rainy season one had to walk in the fish market with umbrellas or raincoats
because the market was open to the sky from the top as it did not have a
covered roof   Whilst walking you had to almost swim to check
which fish to buy and from whom to buy as the floor was in such a terrible
condition with broken tiles and puddles.  The state of this market is
so pathetic with the water puddles, open to sky, broken flooring, rotten
fish on the floor,  spitting around, etc.

Dear Peter,

Thank you for your observations.

Yes, The fish market has been left out as also the other sections of the
market.

We talked about the Mapusa Market in General and its overall management.
We believe that new fish Market is being built soon.

As far as MNE is concerned, the existing Portuguese built Mapusa Market has
out-grown its need. We need to put up a modern market maintaining the the
ground floor spread , improving on it drastically and go vertical even to
accomodate parking floors. We have privately put our architect friends to
work on this model and every input is being looked at.

Rest assured even if MNE gets 2 councillors in, that would be satisfying,
though people of Mapusa must vote for MNE Panel enmasse this time as this is
the only time we have Mapusa Centric Manifesto, under a serious, no-nonsense
organization.

BTW MNE shall be filing nominations to all 15 wards on Saturday, 9th.
October, 2010 - morning. Conscious Mapxemkars are requested to be present at
the Office of the Deputy Collector. Timing shall be made known. The MNE
nomination filing shall be covered by press and Cable TV Channels.

I would request the new MNE to kindly come up with a plan for a decent
place for the fish vendors and vegetable vendors so that the general
public can use these clean facilities in our Mapusa Market . I had an
opportunity to visit the Panjim vegetable market.  The place seems to
be quite clean now with all the vendors sitting on raised level and doing
their daily business, although the fish market in Panjim still needs a lot
of improvement.  Compared to Panjim market, the fish and vegetable
markets in Mapusa are in a pathetic condition at the moment.  The
roads around and to the markets are also in same pathetic
conditions.  Our only request to the new MNE or whosoever wins the
coming Municipal elections, PLEASE for the sake of all Mapsenkars,
Bardezkars and Goans in general who visit Mapusa market, improve the basic
necessities in the Mapusa Market and God will shower his blessings on you

Press Conference at the Embassy of India, Kuwait

Sunday, 05 April 2009 17:06

Press Meet convened by H.E. the Ambassador of India, Mr. Ajai Malhotra in the
context of the upcoming visit of Hon'ble Vice President of India Mr. M Hamid
Ansari to Kuwait from April 6 - 8, 2009

A Press Conference was convened by H.E. the Ambassador of India, Mr. Ajai
Malhotra in the context of the visit of Hon'ble Vice President of India Mr. M.
Hamid Ansari to Kuwait from April 6 - 8, 2009, on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 1200
hours in the Indian Embassy premises. At the outset H.E Ajai Malhotra welcomed
the members of Press and various media and briefed about the profile of Hon.
Mohammad Hamid Ansari the Vice President of India, who will be visiting at the
invitation of H.H. Crown Prince, only to Kuwait and this being the first visit
after he assumed office as Vice president of India in 2007.

Hon’ble Shri. Ansari is being accompanied by a group of delegates, Minister of
State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Shri G.K.Vasan, Mr. Ravi,
Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and a number of other senior officials
and also his wife Mrs. Salma Ansari. H.E Ajai Malhotra said that this is the
first high level delegation visiting Kuwait after many years. He added an
interesting info that Kuwait has the special distinction that it will be the
first country to be visited by Hon’ble Vice President.

Talking about the profile of Hon’ble Shri. M.H.Ansari , he said that he has a
versatile portfolio with wide expertise and held very senior level positions
including Ambassador to the UAE, High commissioner to Australia, Ambassador to
Iran, and Ambassador to the Saudi Arabia. On his visit to Kuwait, the Hon’ble
Vice President shall be received by H.H. the Crown Prince to the State of
Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. In this visit he is expected
to meet the acting Prime Minister and a number of senior ministers of Kuwait
Government.  He will also meet some prominent members of the Indian community.

Answering to various questions on the purpose and agenda of the minister’s
visit, H.E. Ambassador mentioned that this visit is to strengthen the centuries
old friendship between India and Kuwait, and to take this relationship to a new
level. The visit is expected to contribute to the have a positive impact on the
relationship in many ways at various levels. He said that presently India is at
the 10th position as trading partner for imports and is at number 3 rd trading
partner for exports with a figure of 8.4 million dollars trade in 2007-2008. He
added that ” India would like to be in the first position“, in the coming year.

H.E.Ajai Malhotra said that India is expected to sign some key documents,
predominantly in 2- 3 sectors, with the Kuwait Government during this visit,
and said more details will be divulged after the meetings and when documents
are signed up in the next 2-3 days. He said that he is very happy to act as a
“catalyst” to accelerate the level of friendship between the countries. The
atmosphere of visit is expected to be one of warmth and positivity, friendship
and mutually beneficial to strengthen the relationships though this is not
expected to be a visit to sign commercial contracts. The visiting delegation is
expected to meet the acting Prime Minister, and also interact with the Kuwait
Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

It cannot be overemphasized that the largest and rapidly growing Indian
community in Kuwait will be witnessing a very important event and would go a
long way in promoting the relationship between the two countries. A visit of
such level is taking place after many years, after almost 3 decades, the last
being the visit of Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1981.

[Goanet] Press Conference to oppose Badminton Coach Roshanlal Nahar's extension

2008-03-28 Thread Sandeep Heble
Panjim Badminton Club in association with other badminton Players/
sports lovers have called for a Press Conference, objecting to the
Sports Authority of Goa's arbitrary decision to grant another one-year
extension to the retired Badminton Coach Roshanlal Nahar.

Mr Roshanlal Nahar has been enjoying an un-interupted stint at the
Indoor Stadium in Panaji for the last more than 30 years and his
continuation as the Coach even after his retirement has more to do
with his well-established and well-nurtured political contacts than
his coaching abilities.

The Press Conference shall be addressed by Goa State Player and the
President of Panjim Badminton Club and Evening Badminton Group
Shashant M. Naik, Goa's State Badminton Champion Govind Navelkar,
Joint Secretary of PBC and EBG Sandeep Heble and other State Badminton
Players.

The Conference will be held on 29th March, in the Journalist's Hall,
Shrama Shakti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji, from 11.00 am onwards.

Badminton Players, sports enthusiasts are cordially invited.
