Hi Bryce,

For the initial release we are not planning to include faceting,
however it's certainly on our minds for subsequent releases.

Thanks,

Hi,

I would recommend this walkthrough (

[google-appengine] Regarding questions about Mail API quotas

2012-04-18 Thread Christina Ilvento
*Hi All,

We’ve been seeing a lot of questions on the groups about the new quota
elevation procedure for the Mail API and I wanted to take a moment to
clarify what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.

As of 1.6.2, applications with billing enabled must clear at least one
charge before the Mail API quota is raised beyond the free quota of 100
messages sent per day. Once the first charge is cleared, messages beyond
the first 100 sent are charged at the normal rate. You do not need to
pre-pay the Mail API or set your budget any differently than you normally
would.

As I’m sure you can imagine, a mail service with a free quota is a
potential gold mine for spammers. In the past few months we’ve been taking
many steps to improve the experience for our Mail API users by adding DKIM
and including better spam detection so as to improve the overall domain
reputation for all apps sending mail using the Mail API. Another part of
these changes is to require applications to successfully clear a charge in
order to send mail over the free quota, as noted above. As a result of
these changes, we’ve seen definite improvements which benefit all of our
mail senders through improved domain reputation.

We recognize that this change has caught some developers off-guard and we
apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We’ve added a
section to the Mail API overview
page<https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/python/mail/overview#Quotas_and_Limits>,
as well as the existing documentation on the Quotas and Limits
page,<https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/quotas#Mail>to more
clearly explain the quota increase process.

We appreciate your patience and continued support of App Engine, if you
have any comments about the Mail API, please let us know by filling
out our Mail
API feedback
survey<https://docs.google.com/a/google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHFXM0tlNlAwQ0JueTRCR1RhcDZWcEE6MQ>
.

failing as sockets are not available in the runtime. Please consider using

Re: [google-appengine] Re: full text search API is experimental, ready for a test drive

2012-05-15 Thread Christina Ilvento
Hi All,

Let me provide a bit more background on our thinking for pricing for the
Search API. We use the experimental phase for many APIs to test the API's
stability, get developer feedback and to fine-tune our pricing. It's
important to us that we only publish pricing when we are confident that it
won't change drastically in a short time frame, so that our developers will
have a better sense of what to expect going forward.

That being said, here's the general idea of what we're thinking
pricing-wise for the Search API. We are planning to charge for the Search
API based on three metrics: indexing, searches and storage. Indexing will
likely be charged per GB indexed (or re-indexed) and searches per query.
This will allow our developers to pay for what they use while still being
able to predict their usage (we expect that it's easier to estimate the
number of searches your app will make per day than how many front-end
instances you might need to run a search stack). As noted in our
docs,
we expect our free quotas to cover about 1000 searches per day on a 250MB
index once we graduate from experimental -- so that should give you an
indication of whether you will be able to keep your usage under the free
quota.

Thanks,
Christina

Re: [google-appengine] Re: 10mb deploy size limit

2012-08-02 Thread Christina Ilvento
Hi All,

This is likely due to the 1GB of code and static files quota for all
versions -- try
deleting an older version of your app if you are hitting this limit
consistently to free up some space. In a future release, we plan to allow
applications to pay for additional code and static files storage beyond the
current 1GB limit. If you're still having a problem, please contact me
directly with your app-id.

[google-appengine] Notice: Google App Engine Conversion API to be decommissioned in November 2012

2012-08-21 Thread Christina Ilvento
In November, 2012, we will be decommissioning the Experimental Conversion
API <https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/python/conversion/>. In
the 1.7.1 release, the API will be marked as “decommissioned” in our
documentation, and starting the first release after November 1, the
Conversion API will no longer be supported in the App Engine SDK or
runtimes.

One of the great things about App Engine is our ability to quickly release
and iterate on new Experimental features. But sometimes a feature doesn’t
get the developer adoption and momentum needed to justify providing it as a
fully supported feature with a continued maintenance commitment. The
Conversion API is one of those features.

We are committed to providing a well-maintained, fully-supported platform
and we will continue to focus on providing high value features for our
developers. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to
contact us at *google-app-engine-conversion-api-decommission-questions**@
google.com*.

Thank you for your continued support of App Engine.

Christina Ilvento, Product Manager for the App Engine Conversion API

Re: [google-appengine] Text Search api not working on my production app

2012-09-07 Thread Christina Ilvento
Hi,
You don't need any special permissions to start using the experimental
Search API. Could you provide your app-id or sample code?

Thanks,

[google-appengine] seeking early testers for outbound sockets

2012-09-10 Thread Christina Ilvento
Hi All,

We are looking for a small number of trusted testers to get early access to
outbound socket functionality in App Engine. This will allow you to use the
standard language socket modules to make outbound socket connections to
external services. We are accepting only Python testers for now, but we
will be adding Java shortly so Java developers are welcome to sign up now.
Please fill out this
form<https://docs.google.com/a/google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dF9QR3pnQ2pNa0dqalViSTZoenVkcHc6MQ>with
more details about your use cases if you're interested.

Thanks,
Christina Ilvento, App Engine PM

Re: [google-appengine] Re: APP DOWN: App suddenly no longer starts, no code changes

2012-09-12 Thread Christina Ilvento
*Hi All,

Beginning yesterday, September 11, Google App Engine experienced two
periods of serving degradation for a subset of Java applications due to a
gradual roll-out of a new version of the Java runtime. Affected
applications would have seen errors related to class loading. We have
resolved the first issue by fixing the underlying bug. We are still
investigating the cause of the second issue but have rolled back the
problematic update and all affected applications should now be returned to
normal serving behavior.

No changes to your code or application configuration are needed at this
time. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused, and we’ll
follow up with more details on the underlying incident and resolution soon.

Regards,
Christina Ilvento, App Engine PM*

Re: [google-appengine] Re: APP DOWN: App suddenly no longer starts, no code changes

2012-09-13 Thread Christina Ilvento
Hi All,

First, thanks for all of the feedback, it's very helpful for us to hear
directly from customers about how issues affect them and what would make
them feel more confident using the platform. Please feel free to reach out
to me directly (cilvento@) if you have anything that you'd like to discuss
without an audience.

For this issue in particular, we are investigating the duration and
severity of the incident on our side. No one can promise a 100% bug-free
environment, but we do try to be as transparent as possible about these
issues, and we'll be posting a more detailed report soon.

Thanks,
Christina

The issue should be resolved, and you should be able to deploy normally
now. If you are still having problems deploying, please file a production
issue.

[google-appengine] some applications experiencing problems with backends

2012-11-06 Thread Christina Ilvento
We are aware of an ongoing issue, beginning around 7 PM US/Pacific time,
with backend instances not starting up. Affected applications would see 503
server errors from backend instances.

The App Engine team is investigating the issue and working on rolling out a
fix as soon as possible.

[google-appengine] Sunsetting double wildcard SSL certificate support for applications serving from appspot.com

2013-01-10 Thread Christina Ilvento
*Hi All,*
*
*
*As part of our continued commitment to security and a standard platform,
Google App Engine will soon stop publishing double wildcard SSL
certificates for *.*.appspot.com, (e.g.,
https://version.application.appspot.com <https://foo.bar.appspot.com/> or
https://www.application.appspot.com<https://www.version.application.appspot.com/>).
This change will take effect no later than April, 2013. Please note that
this only affects applications serving from appspot.com, and that any
applications serving from custom domains will continue using their existing
certificates. Furthermore, this only affects HTTPS access to your
application and non-secure HTTP traffic will not be affected.

If you rely on HTTPS access to such URLs for your application, please
change any application logic to use “-dot-” instead of “.”. For example, to
access version “1” of application “myapp” use “
https://1-dot-myapp.appspot.com<https://1-dot-funwithcertificates.appspot.com/>”
instead of “https://1.myapp.appspot.com”.

Developers for applications using this pattern as of 1/7/2013 have already
received a notification email with instructions for identifying this
pattern in their application.

Based on our analysis, fewer than 2,000 App Engine applications are
currently using double wildcard SSL certificates on appspot.com and the
majority of them are using the pattern of https://www.appid.appspot.com,
which can safely be replaced with https://appid.appspot.com.

Thank you for your continued support of App Engine. If you have any
questions or concerns about these changes, please feel free to email us at
appengine-ssl-certificate-wildcard-questi...@google.com with your
application-id and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Regards,
Christina Ilvento on behalf of the Google App Engine Team
