GWT 2.4 AutoBean example not working

You need org.json classes in your class path. gwt-servlet-deps.jar contains
them if you need it.

Re: RequestFactory VS Cloud Endpoints (App Engines Java Rest API)

2012-07-15 Thread YatiRaj B
Hi Kevin,

I don't know how you would do that.

After annotating appropriately as explained in Google IO video, when I
right click and do "generate Cloud Endpoints...", I'm getting and error
which doesn't tell anything about the error.
This is even before deploying.

I guess it tries to contact Google for the creation of the libraries (again
as explained in Google IO video). And since I'm not granted Trusted Tester
access yet, it fails. Just my initial conclusion.

If you know how to make it work alternatively, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Raj

Re: Any way to attach arbitrary data to SuggestOracle.Request? Functionality seems limited...

2012-07-15 Thread TimOnGmail
Thanks for the - ahem - Suggestion, Thomas. :-)

I hadn't known about this functionality; the problem with it, in the
codebase I'm working in, is that there is no standard among service calls
(and the actual code doing the database queries within some EJBs) about how
many rows of data are to be returned. We have a requirement for a "Show
more..." suggestion, but also for a "There are too many rows to display,
please refine your query" suggestion. Neither suggestion can be driven by
the server side, it has to be the GUI telling the server "This is a request
for my concept of the base limit of suggestions" and "This is a request for
my concept of the MAX limit of suggestions". The BASE and MAX values will
differ in different locations in the GUI, even though they might be making
the same back-end call.

Thus, the GUI has to tell the server "I want 10 suggestions, and that is
the base request amount"; when "Show more..." is clicked, it has to tell
the server "I want 20 suggestions, and that is the max request amount". It
also needs to tell the server "Actually query for BASE+X, but only return
BASE suggestions".

I have gotten this to work on the GUI side by creating an extended
SuggestBox class that modifies it's own limit, and keeps track of if it
just requested the BASE or MAX amounts. The problem with this, still, is
that the server doesn't know how many extra rows to query for.

So it would be nice to be able to pass some more information along with my
SuggestOracle.Request (as well as the SuggestOracle.Response) that gives
context to the SuggestBox, so our subclass SuggestBox can be used thoughout
the GUI, with just BASE, MAX, and X parameters set.

Perhaps I'm missing something - hey, I've done it before :-) - but I still
feel it would be lovely to be able to pass some more contextual information
back and forth in the Request and Response objects somehow. I've worked on
this by wrapping the SuggestOracle.Request object in another object that
contains this context (intercepted in requestSuggestions()), and subclassed
SuggestOracle.Response to wrap this context on the way back.

If you can think of a better way of passing this extra context back and
forth in a generalized way, however, I'd love to know about it.

Re: Question on Best Startegy to make a table where first row and first column has fixed size cell and then all the other inner cells can have variaty of cell sizes

2012-07-15 Thread Andrei
Something like this. Assuming you want your first column to be 100px wide
and your rows 30px high,

FlowPanel firstColumn = new FlowPanel();
firstColumn.setSize("100px", numberOfRows * 30 + "px");
firstColumn.getElement().getStyle().setFloat("left");

for (int i = 0; i < numberOfRows; i++) {
Label rowLabel = new Label(someText);
rowLabel.setSize("100px", "30px");
firstColumn.add(rowLabel);
}

FlowPanel firstRow = new FlowPanel();
firstRow.setSize((numberOfColumns * 100 - 1) + "px", "30px");

for (i = 0; i < numberOfColumns - 1; i++) {
Label columnLabel = new Label(someText);
columnLabel.setSize("100px", "30px");
columnLabel.getElement().getStyle().setFloat("left");
firstRow.add(columnLabel );
}

FlowPanel tableBody = new FlowPanel();
tableBody.setSize( (numberOfColumns * 100 - 1) + "px" , (numberOfRows - 1)
* 30 + "px");

for (i = 0; i < numberOfItems; i++) {
Label itemLabel = new Label(someText);
itemLabel.setSize(someWidth, "30px");
itemLabel.getElement().getStyle().setFloat("left");
itemLabel.getElement().getStyle().setBackgroundColor(someColor);

tableBody.add(itemLabel );
}

FlowPanel myFancyTable = new FlowPanel();
myFancyTable.setSize(numberOfColumns * 100 + "px", numberOfRows * 30 +
"px");
myFancyTable.add(firstColumn);
myFancyTable.add(firstRow);
myFancyTable.add(tableBody);

You may need to adjust sizes of labels and panels if your CSS (or standard
GWT CSS) introduces some styles (paddings, borders and margins) to make
sure that labels and panels fit into their spots.

You can make it even more elegant with only one FlowPanel filled with
floating labels, if you prefer, but it depends on how your data is
structured. I assumed it's easier for you to create the first column, then
the first row, and then fill the table.

I'm using Ubuntu for a full year and never had any problem with it (Ubuntu
11.04, 11.10 then 12.04; Eclipse 3.6, 3.7 then 4.2).
I'm not using WindowBuilder / GWT Designer though. Have a look at
http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/issues/list?can=2&q=designer+ubuntu
(also
try "designer linux" as search terms, and try search "all issues" too
instead of just "open issues").
BTW, as Joseph said, I'm not sure a 64bit OS would really change anything
here, and I'm pretty sure you'd better use 32bit OS if your host OS is
32bit (I thought it wasn't even possible to use a 64bit OS, probably
depends which virtualization software you use).

The easiest is to use an EditorVisitor; it works with any kind of
EditorDriver, you don't have to build your own.

There are 2 ways to do validation, all based on the Editor framework:

   - editors can do the validation themselves (they'll implement
   HasEditorDelegate and call reportError on the EditorDelegate, generally on
   getValue() –for a LeafValueEditor– or flush() –for a ValueAwareEditor–)
   - validation can be done on the edited value (flush() the widgets into
   the object, then use JSR303 validation) and then violations passed back to
   the EditorDriver with setConstraintViolations for display

To display errors, editors implement HasEditorErrors.

There are only 2 built-in classes that fit into this framework:
ValueBoxEditor (used by any ValueBoxBase widget) will report an error if
the ValueBox's getValueOrThrow throws, and ValueBoxEditorDecorator will
wrap any ValueBoxBase display the error next to it (it's more a
proof-of-concept though, and not really usable as-is).

If you want to e.g. validate some text against a regexp, it's then as easy
as creating a ValueBoxBase (possibly a TextBox subclass) and
overriding getValueOrThrow to validate and throw when appropriate.

Re: import common style rules?

2012-07-15 Thread Ed
Thanks for your answer.
Could you give an example?

I use CSSResources for all my css styles, I don't legacy styles.
I combine CssResources to create new ones, but don't see how I can use it
to solve my problem.

Suppose I have a widget that needs common used style rules and have one
style name, namely bla. So in code:

public interface WidgetStyle extends CssResource {
 @ClassName("Bla")
 String bla(); {
}

Basically I want 3 common style rules of Bla to be easily reuse as they are
used in many places (different css files). How can I realize this?

Re: import common style rules?

2012-07-15 Thread Joseph Lust
Ed,

Have you considered the CSSResource interface in GWT? Since it is an
interface, you could have a base interface with base CSS rules, and then
extend that interface for various widget/module interfaces (CSS files) and
they'd get your desired rules too, while keeping those rules in a single
file.

Joseph

Re: GWT calling java from JS doesn't work with Iframe

2012-07-15 Thread Joseph Lust
One way this error can also be caused is that you did not *publish* that
public method before you called it. You need to ensure you've got a JSNI
method (like the one you posted) that is run onModuleLoad to add your
public JS functions to the window's namespace.

Of course you can use GWT to set the listener on the *input* element and
skip the JSNI bit if you like.

Re: GWT - dev environment ...

2012-07-15 Thread Joseph Lust
Nick,

I feel your corporate pain. I probably spend 30% of my dev time fighting
the company's crippleware.

I've been running GWT on Linux for 7 months now with no issues [at home
only :( ]

   - Ubunutu x64 11.10 (I try to stay away from the latest release)
   - Eclipse Indigo x64 (latest release)
   - Oracle JDK x64 1.6.32 (don't use OpenJDK, gave me trouble)
   - Chrome for debugging, or FF
   - Make sure you use the -vm switch in eclipse.ini to point to the
   desired VM, and set JAVA_HOME for good measure.

However, I don't know how well an x64 processor, running a 32bit OS, and an
x64 VM OS on that works. Might not be the fastest thing.

Hope that helps.

Sincerely,
Joseph

Re: How can GWT war file deployed to sharepoint?

2012-07-15 Thread Joseph Lust
It should not be hard for a static webapp, since GWT just makes some
JS/CSS/HTML files. So if you can access files in this manner on Sharepoint,
it might work.

However if you want RPCs and server side actions, you'll have to see what
kind of code you can run on Sharepoint, which is probably limited to .Net,
if anything. I would not expect a Java backend to work on Sharepoint
without substantial effort.

Joseph

Where to find a simple yet good GWT exemple ?

2012-07-15 Thread Francois Marot
Hi all,

I'm new in the GWT world and I would like to learn the techno.
Does anyone knows a good opensource project that I can import easily in
Eclipse to learn by exemples ? I get the basics but it's quite hard to put
everything in place. I'm specifically looking for a great and clear MVC
implementation that would show me the "state of the art" of GWT programming.
I'm specifically looking for working exemples of communication between
widgets and controllers, controllers calling services then calling the view
etc...
Ideally, it would not use any external library other than real standards
(Guice ? Gin ?)

Any hint ?

GWT Client side validation

2012-07-15 Thread David Lee
I have been researching practices and frameworks for client side GWT
Validation.
The GWT Validation Library using JSR 303 doesn't seem what I am looking for.
The problem with this and similar validation is that you need to put data
into a class and then validate it.
I want to validate data while its still in GWT Widgets and make visual
indications on the GUI when there are problems.
I have run across several implementations that do this but wondering if I
am missing something obvious.
I'm using GWT 2.5 (rc1) and it seems so unbelievable that it
doesnt directly support a type of form validation without having to write
it all from scratch,
but that is what I am discovering.

Suggestions welcome !

GWT - dev environment ...

2012-07-15 Thread Nick Floros
Hi,

 I have been evaluating GWT as a development framework in building a call
handling application; maybe this is nuts idea but this is another story.

 It has been going kind of ok up to the point where my eclipse started
running out of memory ; host os is Windows XP 32 bit. In addition corporate
PC are full of anti-virus software which makes compilation and opening
WindowsBuilder design a bit of a pain.

 So have been considering using 64 bit LINUX; in an attempt to avoid all
the av software.

 Does anybody out there has any recommendations about which version of
LINUX 64 bit and eclipse go together with GWT and WindowBuilder ?

 Been trying (admittedly on a VM)
- Ubuntu 12.04 (32bit + 64bit) + eclipse 3.7 no joy tried also eclipse 4.2
- Mint Linux Cinnamon I get only a working environment but only with
eclipse 3.6
- OpenSuse + eclipse 3.7 works when using standard GWT widgets. Any attempt
to use GWT-EXT results in eclipse death.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

RequestFactory, how to transport a BaseProxy

2012-07-15 Thread simywime
I am trying to use RequestFactory with HibernateSearch. I would like to
have one RequestFactory method that handles all search requests for all
Proxy types which I ideally was hoping would be something like this...

public interface MyFactory extends RequestFactory {

  public interface MyRequestContext extends RequestContext {
*Request doSearch(Class c, String searchTerm);//?? Not
possible - but what can I do here ??*
...

The pseudo code for the actual search would be
BaseProxy result = doHibernateSearch(searchTerm, c).uniqueResult();

If I really have to, I could pass the full path to "Class c" and do a
Class.forName() on the server side, but even so, how do a return the
BaseProxy to the client? If the answer is that its impossible, how do I
work around it?

I dont want to have to have a doSearch(String searchTerm) for every domain
type.

GWT Delevoper Plugin for Chrome must be installed from Web Store

2012-07-15 Thread Peter Nees
I'am not able to run my application anymore in development mode. (I work on
Vista.)
I lost my plugin for Chrome.
1. I open my test url
(http://127.0.0.1:/...),

I get the normal prompt: Development Mode requires the Google Web Toolkit
Developer Plugin.
2. I try to install it from there, but I get the message "extension, apps
and user scripts can only be installed from the Chrome Web Store".
=> No problem with that, but, I don't find the plugin in the WebStore !

Testing a RemoteServiceServlet

2012-07-15 Thread Murray Cumming
My application uses a RemoteServiceServlet so the client can communicate
with the server. I believe this is very common. The actual behavior of
the service depends on a configuration file, and some other files and
databases on the server.

I'd like to test this in a unit test. To do that I need to create the
test conditions (create the files and databases) and tell the service
about those conditions.

But I see no way for my unit test code to tell the service about those
test conditions. I could add a setTestConfiguration() method as a
regular async service method, but that would then be present in regular
releases, offering a massive security hole.

I know that I can abstract some of my service code out into regular
classes and test them instead, and I have already, but I really want to
test the actual async service. For instance, that would test that
serialization is really working.

Does anyone have a better idea, please?

Editors framework edit/view mode question

2012-07-15 Thread Олександр Бежан
I have form with editors for bean fields:
public class EditSampleView extends ViewImpl implements EditView,
Editor {

interface Driver extends SimpleBeanEditorDriver {
}

@UiField
TextFieldEditor country;
@UiField
TextFieldEditor description;
@UiField
DigitFieldEditor digit;
EditorDriver> driver;
@UiField
TextFieldEditor name;
}

Each field editor has edit and view modes.
I also have own driver wrapper. It adds JSR-303 validation automation.
I want to implement this method in my driver:

/**
 Sets edit/view mode of field editors
*/
public void setEditMode(boolean edit) {
 for(FieldEditor field: getFieldEditors()) {
field.setEditMode(edit);
 }
}

Is it possible to access all field editors from driver ?
GWT.create(Driver.class) generates code for each field editor annotated by
@UiField. So it knows about all those fields. It could be great to have
access to them.

Installing GWT on RAD 8.0.4 on intranet

2012-07-15 Thread Guy Passy
When attempting to install GWT on RAD 8.0.4 (which runs on Eclipse 3.6), I
get an error message informing me that:
com.google.gdt.eclipse.suite.e36.feature.group.3.0.1.v201206290133-rel-r36
 is missing necessary the component
org.eclipse.mylyn.commons.ui 0.0.0

I've seen the solution of adding the Eclipse repository to RAD and letting
it update automatically the necessary components.

My problem with that solution is that I am on a company intranet.
Therefore, I cannot access the Eclipse repositories to update Eclipse in
that way.

Is there any other way to do this?
Anywhere that I can download the specific files/components that are needed?

problem installing GWT on RAD8.0.4 in intranet

2012-07-15 Thread Guy Passy
I've seen several people asked about the problem I've encountered when
attempting to install GWT plugin for Eclipse 3.6 (on IBM RAD 8.0.4).
In all of the threads that I saw, the solution given was to add the Eclipse
Repository so that Eclipse would update the necessary files.

*I cannot do this* as I am on a company *intranet*!

Is it possible to update the Eclipse that RAD is installed with/build on?
Where can I get the necessary files for the installation?

Or is there another possible way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

JAR classpath issue

2012-07-15 Thread Ferenc Balogh
Hi All,

I'm developing a tool for GWT which I intend to release as a .jar file. It
involves generating files with a linker. With this, I'm facing a
problem: I'd like the linker inside the .jar file to access a configuration
file from the classpath of the application. Currently I'm passing the file
name to the linker as a configuration property inside the module
configuration XML file.

Can you please suggest a working solution or any developer-friendly
alternative?

Thank you!

all the others inner cells would vary its size on the widths aspect.

Any tips would be very welcomed.

I thank you in advance

Re: RequestFactory VS Cloud Endpoints (App Engines Java Rest API)

2012-07-15 Thread Daryl Bergeron
+1. I signed up two days ago. Thought I might at least get a confirmation
email that my request was received, but have not. Just anxious to get
started on it, and don't want my request to fall thru the cracks. Thanks.

import common style rules?

2012-07-15 Thread Ed
I have a few style rules like for example:
-webkit-user-select: none;
user-select: none;

that occur at more then 1 place in css files.
Is there a way put these styles in a central css file and import/include
them?

I could give them their own Class name, like BLA, and set that on the
widget, but that's not very transparent and L&F independent. For example:
suppose this BLA style will be required to horizontal center the widget,
you don't want the widget to be aware of a centered layout..

Or it would be nice to set this class name BLA everywhere where another
class FOO is used through config. But I don't think this possible?
