But the kernel will not start the system.
I use speakup, so i can not see, what the monitor will display, bevor

Must i do a depmod for the new installed kernel?

Is there a script included in grml, that will upgrade a kernel

[Grml] upgrade from kernel 2.6.23 to 2.6.28

2009-09-23 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello Mika,

thanks for your answer.

I have done a

update-iniramfs -c -t -k 2.6.28-grml

After that i started the kernel with this initrd from dos (i allways start
from dos with linld097.com.

The kernel loads and stand than in the initramfs. I did not hear any
output from my apollo synthesizer (boot-option speakup_synth=apollo).

I have unpacked the initrd.img-2.6.28-grml and looked for the speakup-
modules, but he modules are not in the initrd.img-2.6.28-grml.

On the system the modules are in /lib/modules/2.6.28-grml/extra/speakup/

How can i add this modules?

Unpacking with

gzip -dc initrd.img-2.6.28-grml | cpio -i

copy the extra folder into the 2.6.28-grml directory and then

find . | cpio -o -H newc | gzip -9 >initrd.img-2.6.28-grml

will produce a new initrd, but speakup will not work and the system will
not boot.

How can i do a depmode for the not running kernel 2.6.28-grml?

thanks for your help.

[Grml] Help, hilfe, how can i restore..

2009-07-15 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello, Hallo,
i need some help. I have delete a directory of my /home directory with a
lot of data.

in deutsch beschrieben habe.

[Grml] some questions.

2009-01-18 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,
for a time i have installed the grml 1.1 on two harddisk and onto a usb-
stick (GB). With the commands aptitude update and aptitude safe-upgrade i
look for the newest program-updates.

But now i have some questions:

1.
What is the sudo password for the first User, i mean the user, that tehe
grml2hd-script will create (i have changed the configfile for my needs).

2.
How can i upgrade from grml 1.1 to grml 2008, especielly the kernel and
scripts?

3.
What can i do to become a better performance on my usb-stick, shall i
create a fstab for my needs, so that the temoraryfiles are into the ram
and so. Are there any examples.

4.
After updating/upgrading with aptitude and the end of the procedur im
become an error "update-initramfs can not create/update initrd ..., use -t
switch". Shall i use the command update-initramfs -d -t to fix this or is
there a configfile?

5.
If i log in as user x and start lynx, surf with lynx to an audiostream
(mp3/rm or so) or to an internetradiostream, the mplayer will start, but
nothing is to hear, mplayer will stop and lynx is back.
The sound works and if i start the mplayer with the directlink to the
radiostream, that will work.
Any ideas?

6.
How can i addd old debian packages, especielly i want to use the aqmony
0.6.3, the openhbci and the libchipcard version, which works with the old
aqmoney 0.6.3. I have tryied to compile the programs, but the gcc 4.3.x
will produce a lot of errors and i am not so familiar with c an c++ to fix
this errors.

[Grml] how to upgrade

2008-04-20 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,

i have installed the latest version of grml to harddisk.

If i do the following commands the upgrade of packages will stop with an
error of dpkg, if the gkrellmd package will be upgraded.

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

I have also tested

apt-get upgrade -f

or apt-get dist-upgrade

I have also done apt-get remove gkrellmd*

But i become allways the same error.

I want to use gnome-orca with gnome-desktop and so i have installed

apt-get install gnome-orca
apt-get install gnome-desktop. but the command orca -t produces a lot of
errors, and so i think it is the best to bring all the installed packages
to the newest version.

Or is it better to change the distribution from lenny/sid to edge and if
yes, how can i do that.

Thanks for your help.

Re: [Grml] [grml] config questions

2008-03-27 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello Micka

thanks for your help.
I have added the modules snd-sb16 and parport-pc in the correct order into
/etc/modules and that works.

I have spend a lot of time to become dsl to work. pppoeconf has created a
file dsl-provider in /ettc/ppp/peers/ and pon dsl-provider start the
connection. If i run lynx like: lynx http://www.wdr.de nothing will
happen. If i add a line : nameserver 129.13.64.5 to the two existing lines
of nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf the above lynx-command works.

How can i add a extra dns-server to resolve.conf or must i change
something into the dsl-provider file?

I want to add the aqmoney-0.6.x paket and openhbci, and the aqmoney-
interface, so i have done.

apt-cache search banking

to look how the correct name of the paket is, but there is only the
aqbanking package.
Can i download the package from an other server and install aqmoney?

Another question to start the grml from usb-stick modified for the eeePC,
is:
grml starts from usb-stick, if have added a line options snd-hda-intel
model=3stack-dig in the alsa-base and have created a modified initrd-file.
also i have created a second partition of 300MB (ext2) on that usb-stick.
The label of the second partition is GRMLCONFIG. grml boot from usb-stick
and the df command shows, that the stick is /dev/sdb1. So i added the
myconfig=/dev/sdb2 to the syslinux.cfg, but grml does not mount the the
/dev/sdb2 partition and restore my config.tbz from there.
What can i do or must i use an other bootparameter?

Thanks for your help.

[Grml] config questions.

2008-03-22 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,

to have sound on my pc i must start the sound-module before the paport-
modules (parport, parport-pc).
In the alsa-base i have added the line

options snd-sb16 isapnp=0 irq=7 dma8=1 dma16=5 port=0x2000

If i remove parport-pc, parport and start the sound via modprobe snd-sb16,
the sound works.

what can i do, that the sound will be loaded before the parport-modules?

Also the tulip driver will be loaded automaticly and the dmfe module after
the tulip-module. For my onboard networkcard i only use dmfe. I have added
a line in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist:

blacklist tulip

But the tulip-moudle will be loaded. What can i do, that the tulip-module
will not be loaded?

I have connected a dsl-modem to my ethernetcard. On slackware i start the
dsl-connection with adsl-start. I have run pppoeconf, but pppoeconf did
not create the /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf file. I also have started netcardconf,
but without success.
what are the steps to become a connection over the dsl-modem to the
internet

Thanks for your help.

If have deleted the fat32 partition on the sdhc-card with fdisk and
created a linux partition, set the boot flag. After that i run the grml2hd
script.

But the the eeepc did not boot from this card. If have pressed the eSC-key
and changed to the card-reader line, but nothing happens.
In the menu.lst the default is set to (hd1,0). In the device.map are the
(fd0), (hd0), (hd1) and (hd2) defined.

I am not familiar with grub and will be happy, for becoming some tips.

Regards

Dietmar

[Grml] swspeak, sound shutdown on eeePC

2008-03-08 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,

after spending a lot of time i was able to boot grml 1.1 rC6 from a usb-
stick. The swspeak starts also as brltty, but i do not hear anything.

I also did not hear anything playing a mp3-file with mplayer.

How can i set up the volume or unmute the soundcard, so that i can hear
anything.

If i shutdown the eepc with the command shutdown -h now, the PC did not
shutdown properly. To turn the eeePC off, i must press the button for
POWER.

[Grml] starting grml with loadlin/linld/grub4dos

2008-03-03 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,

last weekend i have installed grml 1.1 with help from my brother onto a
partition of my normal pc, onto a sd-card (4 GB) for my eePc and onto an
usb-stick (2 GB)

a)
On my normal pc i started the live-cd and start speakup, brltty, change
the /etc/grml2hd/config. After that i start grml2hd -i for the
installation. I use /dev/hdc6 for mbr and root-partition.
The vmlinuz and the initrd.img and the menu.lst i copied onto my dos-
partition.

I want to start the grml with linld. So i create a linld.par with the
following options:

speakup_synth=apollo speakup_ser=0 lang=de vga=nrmal blind
brltty=vo,usb,text.de.tbl root=/dev/hdc6 ro

I start linld image=linux26 initrd=initrd.img from the directory, where
the files are in.

But i don't have any success. any ideas.

b)
To install grml onto a 4 GB sd-card on my eeePC, we start grml from an
external usb-dvd-drive, change the config file and start grml2hd -i. The
sd-Card is /dev/sda1, I have insert a new empty card and i do not change
the partitiontyp or so. The installation was successfull, but the eeepc
did not boot from the sd-card. We changed the boot-device so, that at
first is removable medium, then the external devd/cd and then the hd.

My normal card-reader for my pc did not read the 4 GB cards, only the eePc
will read such cards.

Any help will be great.

c)
With the grml2usb i have created a bootable usb-stick. But the stick did
not boot. I have looke with fdisk -l /dev/sda for the boot flag is set.
The boot flag (*) is set correct.

Thanks and regards

[Grml] grml2hd questions

2008-02-27 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,

i have some questions for the use of grml2hd.

I have stopped my tests to boot grml from usb-stick via linld. The grml
1.1 RC6 iso boots very fine on my normal pc. speakup and brltty are
working very good.

I want to install this grml version on

a) a empty harddisk /dev/hdc6 (4 GB) and start from Dos via loadlin, i
don't want to use a boot loader,

and

b) i want to install grml onto a 4 GB SDHC card, so that i can boot my
asus eeepc from this card, because on the inside 4 GB SSD is windows xp
installed.

Is it correct to use the grml2hd as follows:

grml2hd /dev/hdc6

or

grml2hd /dev/sdb

Can i add options, because the brailledisplay shows only the "ok" or
"continue" or "cancel", but not the options in the menues.

Regards

Dietmar.

[Grml] linld boot options

2008-02-23 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,

i want to boot grml with linld. The grml.squashfs, linux26 and initrd.gz
are in /live.

The kernel boots up to the prompt "initramfs".

But i can not do anything , because swspeak and brltty is not on. With
help of a "Gucki" i found out, that the usb-stick ist /dev/sda.

Is there a option, that i can say the grml.squashfs is on /dev/sda?

I have set the live-media-path=live.

Or is there a initrd.gz with brltty, so that i have control over initramfs
or the busybox.

[Grml] Re: starting grml_medium with linld

2008-02-17 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello Mika,

thank your for your answer.

If have add the live-medium-path= in the parameter-file for linld, but it
did not work.

I want to run grml_medium on an asus eeepc.

The usb-stick boots to novell dos (c:). In the directory grml are the
files linld077.com linld.par linux26 initrd.gz and grml.iso (the
grml.squashfs file).

I changes into the grml-direcotory

cd grml

and then i start linld as follows:

linld097.com image=linux26 initrd=initrd.gz cl=linld.par

The linld.par looks as follows:

swspeak
grml_dir=grml
grml_name=grml.iso
apm=power-off
lang=de
vga=normal
quiet
nomce
blind
brltty=vo,usb,text-german.tbl
keyboard=de
toram=grml.iso
scandelay=30
live-media-path=grml
boot=LIVE

The last mesassege is something as waiting for rootfs but no sound and no
braillterminal.

Is the brltty package on the grml_mdeium?

thanks for your help

[Grml] starting grml_medium with linld?

2008-02-14 Thread Dietmar Segbert
Hello,

i want to start the grml_medium with linld or loadlin.
I have copied the grml.squashfs file the linux26 and the initrd.gz to an
usb-stick and on in a direcotory named grml.

The usb-stick boots to novel-dos 7.0 and after that i want to start the
grml_medium with support for my brailledisplay and softwarespeak (blind
brltty=vo,usb,text-german.tbl swspeak).

How must i set the options for grml in an parameter-file for loadlin or
linld?

Thanks for your help.
