Translating etc/news.scm via Weblate adds delay but reaches more
translators. Now delay is not so important when reading old news from
--list-generations or when one hasn’t upgraded in a while, but I would
prefer if those who make news, continue to request translations on some
mailing list (I forgot the name of the list alias; where is it?). Even

We could have both, I think?  After a new news entry, directly update
the .po in the Guix repo, then after the patch is sent to guix-patches@
other people can open their favourite .po editor and add translations
for their language and send that. No need to wait for Weblate, though
late contributors can still translate with Weblate.

Maxime.

Hi Julien; sorry for the late answer.

Translating etc/news.scm via Weblate adds delay but reaches more
translators. Now delay is not so important when reading old news from
--list-generations or when one hasn’t upgraded in a while, but I would

mailing list (I forgot the name of the list alias; where is it?). Even

Also, Weblate has lazy commits
,
i.e., it only commits new changes to your (Julien’s) repository after a
while, which adds slightly more delay when it comes to news, unless the
uploader or a news download script logs in and uses the Web API’s File
Download button. Or maybe the hypothetical Fedora Weblate component for
Guix news can be configured to push changes to your repo right away.

Thank you Julien for your maintenance of translations! There’s not much
to say about your nice script.

Regards,
Florian

I agree with what others said: it’s a great idea!

I was wondering whether we could just use xgettext to get a .pot file,
but maybe it doesn’t matter.

Given that these are news, I guess we’ll have to merge translations more
frequently than usual.

Nitpick: You can (and should :-)) avoid this one.

Anyway, thumbs up, let’s do that!

Thanks,

I think this is a great idea! Even if I can prepare and post a patch
with the pt_BR news translation and someone else can commit it for me,
doing it via Weblate is quicker for me and spares a committer from
having to review and commit it. Thank you for implementing it!

Would be nice if we could translate at Weblate.
Weblate allows people who have never contributed to Guix before to do
so.
We do not have any Japanese entries yet, but we would like to cooperate
as much as possible.
