[h-cost] OT: Book for sale -- Medieval European Jewellery by Lightbown
Hi all, I know some here had expressed interest if I ever decided to sell this book. Well, now's the time, and I can't recall which of you had said you might want it. I'm offering up for closed bidding here first before putting it up on Amazon, so I'll be willing to cut a better deal than if I have to go that route. It's in good condition, having had only me as an owner, and it does include the intact dust cover. I hate to see it go, but unfortunately the economy dictates it right now. If you want to look up the volume online its: Medieval European Jewellery, With a catalogue of the Collection in the Victoria and Albert Museum Ronald W. Lightbown You can see a couple copies up for sale on Amazon, along with editorial reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Mediaeval-European-Jewellery-Catalogue-Collection/dp/0 948107871 I'll be gone for the weekend, so if you email me I may not respond until Sunday night or Monday. --Karen ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

I repair computers for HR Block. Yep, if you used HR Block this year, I probably repaired and/or configured the computer that was used to do your tax returns. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'm a librarian (one of several on this list). I only make costumes to support my hobby of reenactment, and haven't in fact made a garment for some time. I'm just coming to the end of a long period when life has been getting in the way; I hope to move house later this summer, and when that's over I want to start on a 17th century jacket. Re: [h-cost] About Passports Just FYI
Right. I applied about 18 months ago for a passport, and paid for the expedited service. They got it to me in a week under three months, despite assuring me that the expedited service would get it to me in less than two weeks. I missed a free 2-month-long trip to Europe because of it. Yes, I'm still bitter about that one. Talia - Original Message - From: Gail [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Tuesday, June 5, 2007 2:57 pm Subject: [h-cost] About Passports Just FYI To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] The passport agency has not even processed applications from January and February. My son is supposed to leave this Sunday for Ireland and applied for a renewed passport on April 24th with using expedited service. It has not arrived and I had to call the state department task force for passports to see what was going on. It's still there and they have tagged it to be done but they cannot guarantee it will be done and here by the 9th. So, if you need a passport you need to apply at least 6 months in advance if not more than that. [h-cost] 2 costume books for sale
I have a first printing of Millia Davenport's The Book of Costume for sale. It's the two-volume edition in a cardboard sleeve. Printed in 1948. The cardboard sleeve still has the paper cover. The paper covers on the sleeve are worn but intact and the sleeve is solid. The books are also in good condition. I also have a book entitled Costume Patterns and Designs by Max Tilke, 1990 printing. It's in fair condition. Still has the dustcover, though the corners of the dustcover are worn. The paper glued to the inside cover has split on its seam from the first page -- probably someone dropped the book at some time in its life. However, all the pages are intact and have not separated from the spine. If you're interested in either of these books, make me an offer. Not sure what they're worth. Make an offer and we'll go from there. Talia talia at kc.rr.com No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. RE: [h-cost]Authentic fabric widths
As far as I've heard, up to 108 in some places, like Italy... Thanks to both of you for replying. I have an image in one of my books of a church in France where the yard stick is carved into the exterior wall. I do remember that English woolen broadcloth was about 2 yards wide and that various silks and silk velvets were in the range of 2 feet or less. I was hoping that someone already had a list of the variations in width and length online somewhere. Just lazy I guess... another project for my to-do list! ...eventually it will get done, I promise. grin Take care, Beth At 07:19 PM 5/5/2007, you wrote: Date: Sat, 5 May 2007 16:35:52 -0700 (PDT) From: MaggiRos [EMAIL PROTECTED] There's some information in the back of the Elizabethan Patterns of Fashion (Janet Arnold) MaggiRos --- WickedFrau [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'll go look, but as I recall there were various widths available during these times. [h-cost] Book question...
I'm thinking about selling a book I have entitled Medieval European Jewellery by Ronald Lightbown. I know this isn't exactly a costume book, but it's certainly an accessories book. :) It's long out of print, and won't be reprinted as far as the VC Museum is telling me. Anyway, I've tried finding a good asking price for this book, but Alibris and ABE Books and a couple other book-search sites come up with nothing. Last time I saw one for sale was about three years ago, and the bid was more than $950. Anyone have any good idea where I can find the value of this book? It's in very good condition and still has the intact dust cover. Talia ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
