Does anyone have any experience / horror stories / good revies / etc.? Yes, I got a horror for my Acer Aspire One. If I remember, I'll show it to you. A quite horrific waste of £40. It came from somewhere in the Far East, and the internal connections do not even meet. Desmond suggested that it might be worth prising the thing open and soldering the connections together. I cut my losses, but keep it as an object lesson on the side-effects of parsimony!! Branded batteries for me from now on. ** end quote [hants...@googlemail.com] Yes, this is what worries me about eBay! I always go to eBay for laptop batteries and I know they are not OEM. I always go for sellers that look established with very high feedback rating and (most important) offer 12m warranty. I have had to use a warranty like this once and got a replacement within a week. They are normally Chinese/HK sellers that use (hopefully) branded cells such as Sanyo. As I understand it, matching the cells is a tricky process which these sellers sometimes skip QA on, hence variable quality. The batteries do not last as long as OEM and will prolly drop to 1hr after a year or two of use but for ~£25 it is a good price. Your laptop that lasted 2hrs from new probably had a 6-cell battery. Laptop Batteries are very hit and miss. My corporate HP Elitebook is 5 months old and the battery is knackered. I get barely 15 minutes of power out of it. HP support say that this is normal. The whole lappy is being replaced next month with a 17in screen version. I can only hope that the battery is a whole ot better than the Elitebook. On the otherhand, my 2007 Macbook Pro (17in) is still on its original battery and even with the upgraded RAM(8Gb) and HDD (1Tb) I get 3 hours of life out of it. My old netbook (MSI WInd) battey barely lasted a month. I sent the whole thing back and battled with the supplier to get my money back. My ancient Dell Inspiron 8600 still holds its charge and that is with its original battery. You pays your money and takes your choice. It is easier to go back with a shop. Having said that, even the original batteries are very variable. My original Dell Latitude had two batteries when I bought it and they barely lasted a year before they only got about 20 minutes between them (if that), and Dell told me that was good going!! My current HP Netbook has been on the original lower capacity battery since around September 2008 (iirc) and I can still get around an hour out of it, which is pretty good going when I only got just over 2 hours when it was new! On the other hand the one that came with the Asus 900HD my wife uses, which is about a year newer, drops from 100% to 60% in about 2 minutes, although it has still done much better than the Dell. I found Amazon to be cheapest for my Samsung's battery. About £25. Not Samsung. Been working very well. They seem to do a huge range. The phone only cost £145 when new (now costs £165), after a bit of searching I have been found one for £5.99, have to dismantle the phone to check the battery type. While it may not be a genuine part, I resent being ripped off like that. Last time I needed a new battery for my Dell (big machine, 9-cell large battery) I searched Ebay and found someone selling genuine Dell batteries. It was more than the cheap knock offs but it was about 60% of the price Dell wanted for the same battery. I'm more than happy with it, every bit as good as the original.
