Radio El Mundo 1070 kHz o a Hrvatski Radio 1134 kHz Croacia. (Chiochiu-DDO*QC)

[HCDX] Fishermen set to sail on FM radio wave

2006-04-28 Thread Mukesh Kumar

Fishermen set to sail on FM radio wave

Sanjeev Ramachandran in Thiruvananthapuram | April 27,
2006 04:29 IST

Empowerment of fishermen is all set to tune in to the
airwaves, thanks to an initiative taking shape among
the community in Kerala.
With active participation from a group of
organisations, including the Kerala Swathantra Matsya
Thozhilali Federation, South Indian Federation of
Fishermen Societies, indiadisasters.org, D C School
of Management and Technology and some of those who
work at the Technopark here -- the new initiative is
the launch of a unique FM radio channel that will
cater to the various needs of the fisherfolk.
Christened Radio Alakal (waves), the FM channel will
commence broadcast on an experimental basis on May 1.
Talking to Business Standard, T Peter, president of
the Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation,
said, "Post-tsunami, the fisherfolk have been deprived
of exact information that would help them carry out
their activities unhindered. Moreover, the information
they now get is half-baked and there have been
instances of the info they were fed with turning out
to be negative. This is why we thought of the need for
a medium that would disseminate exact information to
the fishermen."
Radio Alakal has been planned in such a way that
fisheries related news, traditional knowledge relating
to fishing activities, info on the prevailing market
rates of fish, the prices of fishing gear available in
the market, answers to export-related queries and art
forms prevalent among the fishing community and the
like are aired.
The network will run on a low power transmitter
operating at 90.4 MHz.
The recording and editing of the programmes for
broadcast would be done at the Society for Promotion
of Alternative Computing and Employment (SPACE) campus
at Sasthamangalam in the city. SPACE provides the
technical support for the project.
According to Peter, initially the broadcast has been
planned for three-hour duration. The federation is
also establishing radio clubs and will set up radio
kiosks at all the fish landing centres along the
coast. Local volunteers would be in charge of the
programming, he added.
This being the election season in Kerala, the brains
behind the project are waiting for the poll process to
come to an end and plan launch Radio Alakal in a major
way soon afterwards.

[HCDX] Private FMs may not be able to join DTH platforms

2006-04-28 Thread Mukesh Kumar
Private FMs may not be able to join DTH platforms

Ashwini Phadnis
Nithya Subramanian
`They can operate only within a particular
geographical area'
New Delhi , April 27
Direct-to-home (DTH) operators planning to offer FM
radio stations to make their bouquets more attractive
might find the going tough.
Under the present policy, FM radio stations can
operate only within a particular geographical area and
cannot have a pan-India presence. This was pointed out
when the national broadcaster Prasar Bharati planned
to offer space to private FM channels in its free DTH
service, DD Direct Plus.
According to Government source, "Prasar Bharati is
planning to increase the number of FM radio stations
on its DTH platform from 12 to 20 although it has the
capacity to offer 30 channels. However, this capacity
cannot be taken up by the private radio broadcasters
as it would violate the license conditions."
Geographic limitations
The source further added that the FM radio licenses
were granted after a city-wise bidding process. "An
operator can operate only within the geographical
limits of the city where it has been granted the
license. By joining a DTH platform, these limits would
become irrelevant as DTH has an all-India presence,"
he said.
Analysts said that other DTH operators who plan to
offer radio on their platforms could be impacted.
Interestingly, both the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani
Enterprises Group and the Sun Group have won several
FM radio licenses and also have plans for launching
DTH services.
However, DD Direct Plus already offers two FM radio
channels, AIR-FM Rainbow and AIR-FM Gold on its
platform.
ASC Enterprises, which offers DTH under the Dish TV
brand, has 14 radio channels that include 12 AIR
channels and two foreign. "If DTH platforms want to
offer radio they could ask the private FM operators to
put together a special channel. The FM channels cannot
be aired directly," said an official of broadcasting
company eyeing the DTH space.
Talks for more TV channels
Meanwhile, Prasar Bharati is in talks with private
broadcasters to increase the number of television
channels on its DTH platform from 33 to 51. Though it
is planning to charge Rs 1 crore as technical fee for
carriage of the channels, broadcasters are not too
keen to fork out the money.

[HCDX] Status of AFN SW QSL cards???

2006-04-28 Thread Pogue, James T MVM
A month or two ago, there was a flurry of e-mails about AFN Short Wave having
new QSL cards printed and their plans to start verifying their SW
transmissions again. Does anyone know what the status on this is? Has anyone
seen any of these new QSL cards yet?

[HCDX] UNID Chinese on 9410 - Need Help

2006-04-28 Thread J.D. Stephens
I have an UNID Chineses language station logged
yesterday morning on 9410 from 1158 until well past
1230 UTC. Recent logs from other DXers show Fu Hsing
Broadcasting Station, Taiwan here at this time. But,
the HFCC A06 schedule says China Radio International.

Below is a 2 1/2 minute audio clip of top-of-the-hour
announcements. If anyone can listen and help me
identify this, it would be most appreciated:

Thanx and 73,

This one is probably CNR5 Beijing starting from 0955 to 2200. It has two //

CNR5 is audible here in St.Petersburg on 9410 under BBCWS in the local
