Ah. That came from an ssh konsole session from this laptop. Even in
Alaska the server room can get warm so I avoid it. (mostly it is the
noise I don't like)

No, I have not created tunnel for the connection. But your
observations and advice are, as usual, very, very helpful. Thank you.

I suspect that it is time to try to setup the xinetd on Debian/Sarge.
I don't recall but I am pretty sure it is not part of their default

I was able to install Windows 2000 Professional on two of the
workstations here for testing (I am told that MS Service Pack 4 -
which I understand is sort of like a newer kernel and a bunch of fixes
and enhancements - should be fairly secure, but I will need to read up
on Windows security) The network here has 96 (units of 4) RJ-45 jacks
leading to a wiring confluence in the server room. Right now I have
all of our devices (including the Asterisk VOIP server and phones) all
connected through one D-Link DGS-1024D (unmanaged) gig switch all
behind the firewall. (no services directly on the Internet)

OK - thank you! That explains what I was seeing! No doubt it is in the
documentation, or teaching material, I just haven't gone through all of it.

No, unfortunately. I am sorry about that but I just learned how to
turn on the RPC logging items today. (I had figured it was somehow on
by default)

Ismet, for some reason it is reverting back to the original Broker, so it
won't be able to use a single port. I don't know how you are trying to
connect. If it is all on the same network and all of the PCs are trusted, it
shouldn't be a problem.

The way you can tell which Broker is that first it has [XWB] and then it tries
again when it fails with the new Broker and goes to {XWB}. (Note the
brackets vs. curly braces.) It will try the new Broker first and fall back to
the old one if it fails.

Do you happen to have any logs from before this all happened? Maybe you were
never using the new Broker anyway.

Re: [Hardhats-members] CPRS 1.0.25.42 hangs at splash screen

2006-06-25 Thread Ismet Kursunoglu
I forgot to include some information. I am just wondering how else can I debug
such issues?

giant:~# netstat -anp|grep mumps|grep tcp
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:92000.0.0.0:* LISTEN
3977/mumps
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:92100.0.0.0:* LISTEN
3819/mumps

(I tried with just one process/port on 9200 then just 9100 and finally both)

[Hardhats-members] CPRS 1.0.25.42 hangs at splash screen

2006-06-25 Thread Ismet Kursunoglu
I have been configuring and evaluating HOV4 for the last two weeks,
following along with the clues and experiences from others on this
list.

Last evening I turned on auditing for the console from the Kernel
Site Parameter edit screen. I also added one test vendor. All seemed
well until I tried to login from a CPRS gui client - it just hangs.
(was working well prior to the changes)

I tried with CPRS 1.0.25.42 that comes with the HUI distribution with
that nice splash screen as well as the FOIA - both exhibit the same
behavior.

There are some errors from the system as noted below. The tetheral dump
didn't show much.

Are the ZSTATUS or IO errors noted below related?

Thank you.
