Re: [Hardhats-members] CPRS client MS XP sp2 Incompatibility
Unfortunately we did not reverse experiment as our intention that day was to give the demo to a surgeon (from a hospital an hour's drive away) who owns the SP2 machine. He seemed to understand the problem as he had encountered other problems with other applications soon after he patched his machine with the SP2. Was it IBM or somebody who had sent out a warning about encountering errors if patching is done with SP2? I'll see if I can get to do this experiment this week Molly Lloyd Milligan wrote: Right. The value '3040908.151442' is a FileMan date.time (Wednesday at 3:14:42 PM). This can hardly be a coincidence. To have retrieved a FileMan date the client must have connected. RE: [Hardhats-members] CPRS client MS XP sp2 Incompatibility
The key to my response is the fact that you said "running locally". I'm taking that as "I have a local copy of Cache and I'm pointing CPRS to it". If so - here's my experience with that scenario. If you have Cache looking for an incoming RPC call on 9200, then it needs to be changed to something else. The reason has to do with RPC Broker and CPRS. I don't know where specifically it's stated or why, but CPRS uses 9200 as well for communication with the server. If the server and client are on the same machine, then the hard-coded CPRS is given 9200 and my server is given something else (9210). Once you add an application to the Windows Firewall exclusion list, it will have full access to any ports it wants. (period) So if you add in the CPRSChart.exe (or allow it when it pops up), you should have no problems. There's also a built-in Windows Firewall maximum outbound port limit. But once an application has opened a complete connection to the destination, this limit (per application) is removed. Another thing to test is just turn off the firewall. Switch it off, does that help? Also, there is a problem with non-networked PCs, SP2, and use of the loopback address. Try using the locally named box instead of "localhost". And if you do add something new to the exclusion list, it helps to reboot if that application is service based. In the instance of Cache - it may help. And you may also want to check with Intersystems if you are using Cache. The way I have my local machines setup, is to actually block everything and they still work. The port restrictions are just for traffic leaving and entering your system. If everything is truly local (so that it'll work after you disconnect the network cable), then the firewall with no exclusions and it should still work. /David. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dr Molly Cheah Sent: Friday, September 10, 2004 6:39 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Hardhats-members] CPRS client MS XP sp2 Incompatibility But if you define 9200 as your port, how do you justify using another port number... Re: [Hardhats-members] CPRS client MS XP sp2 Incompatibility
If I may reply on behalf of Joseph for now... we were using OR_30_187 and doing the usual install of the VA demo and CPRS on the same machine which (this time) was running XP SP2. The error message reads '3040908.151442' is not a valid floating point value. I noticed that the numbers change when we tried to reconnect. There was no error when we use CPRS from another machine connecting to the same server. So far we had only come across this problem on one machine which is already running XP's SP2. Molly Link, Chuck M wrote: Joseph, I've gone ahead and passed this along to the group in the VA that is looking to do the SP2 install. They'd like more details: what exactly is problem you're having, what version of CPRS is it, etc. Maybe we can get one fixed at the source. Thanks! Chuck If anyone else is having trouble with CPRS and XP's SP2, I'm sure the group would like to know about it. --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: YOU BE THE JUDGE.
