[H] audio codec not working

2006-09-12 Thread Winterlight
I downloaded a bit torrent TV show that is DivX AC32. When I tried to play
it I had audio, but no video. So I installed the latest DivX codec 1.1.0-30
and then had video, but now I lost the audio.

OK, I installed Divx Player 6.1 in the hopes it would sort things out. But
still no audio. However, it gave me this message

The file contains a track in the Dolby AC3 Audio (code "8192") format.
You may need to install a DirectShow decoder for this audio format in order
to hear the soundtrack of the file

I went looking for directshow decoder and found a free codec = GPL MPEG 1/2
DirectShow Decoder Filter 8.1.2 but that didn't work either. How can I make
this work.

All I really want to do is getting it working so I can encode it in to a
standard DVD mpeg-2 file.

thanks

2006-09-12 Thread Jeff Lane
On rare occasion I have had to play them on the VLC Player
(http://www.vlc.com) which is freeware and plays a lot of things that Media
Player will not. I have then used NeroVision Express to burn to DVD and it
worked fine. I don't know what the exception is here other than they pop up
once in awhile. I'm certain other on the list will have the technical
reason.

[H] Best Home Wireless router?

2006-09-12 Thread JRS
Been using a Linksys WRT-54G, was wondering what the collective thought was
best these days for a home router, Linksys? D-Link? Netgear? others?

Do any of them have real SPI built-in these days?

BTW, by "best" I mean fast and reliable.

I went thru a couple Linksys and a D-Link in a couple years, so reliable is
probably number one.

But don't know if it's reasonable to expect a 49 dollar consumer-grade
router to be super-reliable. :)

I've had my wrt54gs with first the linksys firmware then sveasoft and
will give dd-wrt a try when I get a chance, but I bought it when it
first came out - what's that - at least 3 years, apart from updating
the firmware it has never been down or off and it pretty cover my
whole house front porch, back deck, i would recomend it, i think their
current comparable model is the L designation

Re: [H] Torrent Client

2006-09-12 Thread Zulfiqar Naushad
utorrent is the best client. Azureus is good beccause
of the plugins, but other than that utorrent is much
more lighter on the resources.

The trick to any torrent based download is the
configuration of the router/firewall, torrent client
and the computer itself.

It's all very confusing at first, but if you need help
drop me a line and I can help you configure
everything.

By the way, the router/firewall config is the one
people don't do properly and that really screws up the
download by giving you slow speeds.

I am right now on vacation in ireland and the place
where I am staying at has 8 Mb DSL. Maxing out that
connection is a piece of cake if properly configured.

Cheerz!!!

BTW, Ireland is very very very beautiful

I got a really good deal on a 3Com officeconnect
gateway (i.e. DSL Modem with Router) and I really like
it so far. It does not have all the 3rd party
firmwares like the linksys, but it does the job really
well.

I've had good luck with Netgear for range and reliability. Bad luck
with DLink.

[H] Tivo Series 3 High Def

2006-09-12 Thread Anthony Q. Martin
Have you guys seen these? You'd have to be a real couch potato to shell out
$800 for one. I got tempted when they said I could trade in the lifetime
sub on my series 1 for a lifetime sub on a series 3 HD for $200. But that
"extra" $800 kicked my butt.
