[H] Economy PSU ?
recommendations ? Been using Rosewill but had a system comeback with spontaneous reboots. Memory tests ok, HD's test OK. PSU voltages seem ok. Replaced all the case fans and it ran here 48 hours under stress but it did reboot. could be heat, my shop is warm. I always say if it runs here it will run anywhere 8-) cpu is only a 4600 amd x2 with stock fan. fp -- Tallyho ! ]:8) Taglines below ! -- Press any key... NO!... except that one.

I'd say FSP Group / Fortron / Sparkle. Same company. They make solid units, and actually have some at attractive price points. [H] rebuild?
Can I save the IE 'zone info' that is on a current install? I do have my real data files backed up. Now I am up to windows internal stuff that may be worth saving. Getting to format a RAID. Have lots of apps and drivers to reload... Another quiet Saturday! Thank you. Best, Duncan
[H] RAID format
It seems that I have two different ways to reformat my server's RAID. 1. I could just use the Windows CD to clear the RAID and return it to bare NTFS. I assume that the Windows CD talked to my Adaptec RAID card and just says, Format. RAID cleared :) 2. Or, I could boot the existing 'broken' system and use the Adaptec Storage MgrPro app and tell it to go kill itself and everything else on the RAID. I suspect I will end up the same either way... :) Is there a preferred method? Thank you. Best, Duncan
[H] automated back up software
I had posted this before but didn't get any responses. I have a networked external hdd. Myworldbook, 1 TB. I can see the drive and backup to or from it. But I want a good program to do that automatically. The Mionet that came with it is horrible. I tried the trial version of Norton Ghost but can't get it to see the hdd. It keeps asking for a pw, I have tried all I know that would be related to the network, but no go. Any suggestions? I want my laptop backed up each day as I do all my work and billing on it. It would be a big plus if it would back up the entire laptop systems and all so if could be a total restore from the network drive or am I asking to much? Any help appreciated. _ The i’m Talkaton. Re: [H] automated back up software
Using Vista? It has pretty simple built-in whole-system backup capabilities. (supposedly the backup format is to VHD--Microsoft's virtual machine hard disk format, meaning you could bring up the system in a VM if you wanted to) Otherwise, I'd suggest Acronis TrueImage. System Guardian/Standbydisk http://www.duocor.com/xc2k/ http://www.standbydisk.com/ they do have trial versions. win/win really the same, I beta tested for them. I use SG in XP and SD in Vista, both have their plus's and minu's ( few minus's They will backup to a usb external drive and 99% of the time the drive can be installed and booted to. I have not had that fail yet. Easier then doing a restore. Re: [H] automated back up software
Just about any backup program will do what you want. Ghost, Acronis, even windows vista native backup. You need to let Ghost, or Windows scheduler, know the administrative password so it can write to your USB drive. But why not keep it simple. Use Winzip 11, or any other zip program from the command line. Write a simple batch file zipping up the drive or folder, and dropping it in the drive/folder of your your choice. Use Windows scheduler to run it every whenever. Windows scheduler will ask you for the required administrative password so it will have no problem writing it to your USB drive or any where else. You can even do this to a network drive. A zip file using portable compression is universal, so any zip program will be able to open the zip. If you wish to secure the zip file, Winzip 11 will allow you to encrypt with AES 256bit . And Winzip 11 now has a window browser that makes for easy recovery of a single file. This approach doesn't have a fancy UI, and it isn't complicated ,or full of administrative features, but it uses the flagship of compression algorithms, it isn't tied to any one program, and it is simple and bullet proof. Ok, I am going to try some of these suggestions. The problem with Ghost was even when I gave it the administrator pw it would not take it. It would then say some thing to the effect of, can't have 2 people logged in at the same time, even though I was the only one logged in. Weird. Though I did see some people having the same problems that I am having. Will let you all know. PS While I know how to use PKZip, writing a batch file is beyond me. lol Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2008 13:15:17 -0700 To: hardware@hardwaregroup.com From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [H] automated back up software Just about any backup program will do what you want. Re: [H] automated back up software
I love Jungledisk. I think its $20 and it works with Amazon's S3 service. You select the files you want backed up and schedule and it does all the work. They are stored on Amazon's services and so not only does it provide off-site backup but also you have access to them from any internet-connected machine with a copy of Jungledisk. And it works on Windows, OSX, and Linux. Brian On Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 4:15 PM, Winterlight [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Just about any backup program will do what you want. I don't know about your issue, but I have been using Ghost for years and love it. I am currently using 12.0, but I have 14.0 and have not installed it yet. I think the WinZip suggestion is good if you only need to back up data. If you want to be able to restore your system easily in case of an HD crash or some sort of infection, then I would go with Ghost or Acronis myself. From what I researched on Ghost it was the one I wanted. But absolutely could not get it to work. It did not like that network drive. I saw where several people on the discussion beards stated that Norton eventually gave up on trying to get their network backups to work.
