[H] Droid X options
Since I live in Canada, and it looks like we aren't going to get the Droid X, I'm looking for other options. I've read that the HTC Desire is good. Anyone have any suggestions (other than the iPhone, which I think I'll take a pass on?) :) T

Anyone have any suggestions (other than the iPhone, which I think I'll take a pass on?) :) I really like the Droid by Motorola. Has a slide up screen for an actual keyboard and for what I do that is required. Battery life is acceptable, although nothing to write home about, I would keep a charger at work, in car and at home and top it off whenever you can. I saw the Droid X, and it looks good, but I also noticed a lot of junk installed. Doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but still annoying. I do things like ssh into our linux servers and use that to tunnel to our terminal servers or workstations and the keyboard is a must have feature for me. Make sure whichever phone you end up getting has the features you want. GPS isn't on every phone, etc. Christopher Fisk -- Inara: It wasn't entirely a disaster. Mal: I got stabbed! Right here! A decent keyboard would be nice, but looking at my limited options with my carrier, it looks like I can get: HTC Desire (early next month) Motorola Backflip Motorola Milestone HTC Hero. So I'm pretty limited. :) The Desire looks like the one to get, but I'm checking reviews of the backflip. T

If the size of the Droid X is what you are looking for, try the HTC EVO: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/htc-evo-4g-is-sprints-android-powered-knight-in-superphone-armo/ --- Brian Weeden Technical Advisor Secure World Foundation http://www.secureworldfoundation.org +1 (514) 466-2756 Canada +1 (202) 683-8534 US On Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 8:28 AM, Thane Sherrington th...@computerconnectionltd.com wrote: Since I live in Canada, and it looks like we aren't going to get the Droid X, I'm looking for other options. Re: [H] Droid X options
I have an unlocked rooted Nexus One with cyanogen 6 alpha rom (based on froyo 2.2). It's a very good and reliable phone. It's pretty big and I only keep it in my pocket when walking around, but never when sitting. I hear the droidx is pretty large. The Nexus One with this ROM can play divx files flawlessly using RockPlayer (free version), has full adobe flash support, and a decent camera. I'm using it on T-mobile and have no data plan (not necessary because I have wifi at home and at work locations). My primary use is to manage work/staff schedules between 4 facilities, GPS mileage tracking, SIP client makes the phone an extension to my home asterisk system when in wifi range, and I also use the kindle app frequently to read books (most I converted to kindle format from PDF or txt files) lopaka From: Thane Sherrington th...@computerconnectionltd.com To: hardware@hardwaregroup.com Sent: Thu, July 29, 2010 5:28:51 AM Subject: [H] Droid X options Since I live in Canada, and it looks like we aren't going to get the Droid X, I'm looking for other options. [H] Win2K Server OS
Am I correct that MS WinUpdates may have pulled Win2000 Server OS from their support syllabus? Did updates on 07/23/10. W2k Server got bupkis! All the XP clients got updates.. No biggie! I expected this :) Best, Duncan
Re: [H] Win2K Server OS
Yes. Extended-phase support for Windows 2000 (all patch levels) and Windows XP (SP2) ended on 7/13. XP with SP3 is still supported. No further patches, security or otherwise, will be created for these operating system versions unless you have a contract with Microsoft or pay to have the patch created. It truly is time to move on... -Original Message- From: hardware-boun...@hardwaregroup.com [mailto:hardware- boun...@hardwaregroup.com] On Behalf Of DSinc Sent: Thursday, July 29, 2010 1:10 PM To: Hardware Group Subject: [H] Win2K Server OS Am I correct that MS WinUpdates may have pulled Win2000 Server OS from their support syllabus? [H] new system build suggestions or upgrade
It is time for me to upgrade. If I were to piece something up. What is the preferences on MB, CPU, Video, etc. Today? I currently have a core 2 Duo E6300 @1.86 on an Asus P5Q Deluxe, 4GB DDR2 and a Radeon 1600 vid. I know its dinosaur crap from around 2007 before my brain injury. I am recovered enough to start playing some games again, etc. Should I upgrade the proc, and vid on my existing setup which is running fine, or ditch it and start new again. If I start over what is the collectives recommendations? Price and performance are important here. I do some gaming, and video stuff etc. -Anthony aka Tony
Re: [H] new system build suggestions or upgrade
I have been really happy with my Intel Core I7-920 on an Asus P6T mb. I have an Nvidia GTX 285 video card that is pretty nice. Although the latest 4xx series probably blows it away at the same price. I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 with 6GB RAM. I am planning on upping the RAM to 12GB soon. Re: [H] new system build suggestions or upgrade
I have a similar system as Bobby accept I have a Rampage II Extreme mobo and a Nvidia 295 vid card. So far this system has run every game I've thrown at it at high framerates using a monitor running at a 1920x1200 resolution. I've been very happy with this system. I don't really know what to recommend because it's hard to make a recommendation on what you should buy without knowing the maximum amount of money you are willing to spend. Re: [H] Win2K Server OS
Damn!! I missed my last update by only 10 days! Sux 2B me!! ... :) OK. I'll look for another way.now :) I'll shed a tear. Win2K was very good to me. It was completely bullet-proof in my operations. Yes, I most likely used it in a complete dweeb mode and never demanded much of it. My Bad! Hey! Bryan!! Stop laughing LOL!! Best, Duncan On 07/29/2010 14:26, Greg Sevart wrote: Yes. Re: [H] new system build suggestions or upgrade
Tony, First, if you wish to quote a price (minus vid crd and case), I may be interested! Last, I run 3 clients very close to yours. Mine are Asus P5Q3 Intel E8400 2GB DDR3 Nvidia 9600GT The above stack runs so well, I'm thinking of building another one. Re: [H] new system build suggestions or upgrade
Mine's an old(er) Core 2 Duo system too.. Does anyone, have a definitive breakdown or chart of all the Core i3's, i5's, and i7's? I have not looked at a new PC in at least a couple years since I use the iMac most of the time these days.. :) On Jul 29, 2010, at 1:13 PM, Anthony A Riederer wrote: It is time for me to upgrade.
