Re: [H] Add to your list of vendors to avoid
Well I guess I have to say it's more their support people, Althon Micro, and to their defense like Asus (useless phone support) they are at the mercy of some asian corporation as reverse-outsourced. Althon/sapphire flat out drags their feet on responding to TS tickets and seems never does any perks like picking up the tab for shipping both ways or allowing a cross-ship. Right now it's mostly their (anyone at Sappire) silence concerning the fan problem the lack of repair solution other than gambling the next card they send won't have same bug. How can they let such a thing be swept aside with oh yeah, just rivatuner to control the fan and we will void your warranty if you remove the HSF install after market cooling. Guess you could call them bare bones? Just the device mam, no frills! =) Thane Sherrington wrote: At 11:32 PM 30/04/2008, j maccraw wrote: Sapphire Technologies has just made my shit list for the issues I am having the HD3870X2 broken fan support. I thought I recognized them too: * Sapphire Technologies is actually the main partner * of ATI in the video card sphere. This company produces * the broadest line on the ATI's processors. Thanks Joe! Chapter one is written, but the story is far from over. I think we all know what kind of an asshole I can be and I'm not conceding loss yet. Biggest sticking point for me is IF (big IF) then have a functional card I want x-ship call tags because I am not paying anymore $$$ for this thing nor being down for weeks. As it is I'm getting burnt for $40 because I ordered less than a week before the price drop rebate kicked in, so I am digging my heels in. Nvidia was a non-starter here and the card is damn fast if the cool just worked the way it's supposed to! There's a lot of flack going around that I did not see before ordering and it's not just Sapphire though they are No. 1 Manufacturer. http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260threadid=92645 Joe User wrote: Hello j, Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 8:32:36 PM, you wrote: snip So folks, spend your funds somewhere else because official unofficial this smells of BS! Re: [H] Add to your list of vendors to avoid
Well well, Newegg get's a +1 today. Seems they will pay for shipping back fro AND issue a next day shipment when UPS shows the package accepted at the UPS store. Not that this was their initial offer mind you, but 2 emails later they agreed to this much but declared we not getting any returns on these. Bunk I assume given how widespread the problem seems to be going back more than a few months. Ah well, so I have to take it into Spokane on monday hope that means new card before Wednesday. Of course I could just end up with the next card on the pallet and the same problem, sigh. Sapphire on the other hand would not even make the explicit statement that a replacement card would not have the same issue even when directly asked that question. Sapphire Technologies has just made my shit list for the issues I am having the HD3870X2 broken fan support. Fraking thing idles @60C due to the fan not ramping up as it gets hot due to some glitch in the BIOS or something. They expect me to deal with Newegg, who offer no refunds now I know why, when it's not just my card it's all of them or least my revision for sure. Now they expect me to pay to send it to them so they can send me another defective (after all there's no fix yet). I told 'em I drag them into small claims court 1st since I got $400 invested! Also add to the list as the worst user support board in the form of the official unofficial Sapphire forums ruled over by GreenGekko and his butt buddy Rubenos. Both must be Europeeons because they've been saying lovely thing about us yanks. Any rate I got banned for posting some findings about the fan issue which were censored without detailed explaination I questioned why. So folks, spend your funds somewhere else because official unofficial this smells of BS! Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Re: [H] Add to your list of vendors to avoid
Yeah, Sapphire's support is awful. I had a problem with a 1950 Pro, they too told me to take it up with Newegg. My brother had a 1900 XT die on him, past the Newegg support period...he sent it in, and they informed him that they couldn't replace it with a 1900 XT because it was OOS, and his only option was to take a 1950 Pro--a slower card--with no other compensation. He had them wait for over a month for an XT to come in before cutting his losses and taking the 1950 Pro. Awful. I've generally preferred Nvidia's GPUs anyway (running the 512MB 8800GT now), and eVGA has absolutely stellar support. They're definitely my first choice for GPU purchases now.
