That sounds more like what my buddy in NJ described about his FIOS setup. The all
coax way sounds like the lazy installer method.

My FIOS is DHCP on the WAN. I doubt they will give you a static ip, but if they
do rock on!

Gross yeah I'd not be letting them do that ;)

I'll read up on DNS Relay.

Yes, I expect that the new ISP may supply me with 'local' settings for
my "PC", but do not divulge ATM. Actually, they mention the Install Tech
using a USB FlashDrive to 'install' my device to their service. That's a
bit creepy. This I need to run down.

Thank you for your suggestions.

No.

Depends, make sure only one device on your lan is doing this
function.

WAN Mode: Static/DHCP/PPPoE/PPTP/L2TP ? UName: n/a PW: n/a Adress
Mode: Dynamic IP/Static IP ? Reconnect Mode: On-Demand/Always
On/Manual

Settings from your ISP, should be ethernet/DHCP to obtain a WAN ip.

Max Idle Time: 0=infinite/???

Infinite.

Pri DNS Server: ??? (208.67.222.222 planned?) Sec DNS Server: ???
(208.67.220.220 planned?) MTU: ??? (currently 1492 (default=1492))
Link Drop Delay: ??? (currently 120sec.(0=infinite))

Thats fine.

MAC Cloning Enabled: ??? (currently YES!!... ;)

Should not be needed in your setup, this is used if you have a wifi
AP or something hooked up to your ONT, and you switch it out but want
to make the ONT think the device is the same as to not disrupt
service.

I told the installer he had to use the RJ45 output from the ONT, and after
some convincing he did it. If you're still using the MOCA bs, that sucks :)

Rick,
Understand some of this. But, I have a mature wired LAN and do not plan
to implement wireless.

Yes, there is some fuzzy, off-hand mention of, "...a wireless router is
necessary for full "mobility." Sadly, this service is new and there is
little info via their website's support links. But, I continue to study.

All I have been told so far is that there will be only a single box
(ONT) outside. The output of this box will be "ethernet." Not further
defined. LOL!

Duncan

THEIR WiFi router runs a DHCP server with a dynamic IP

I can set it to use OpenDNS servers. (The company.)
The rest will be Company specific. VERIZON set up the configuration

I insisted on better security (NOT WEP) and changed it after they left.
They had to change my WiFi router once to a better model that actually
supported that. WPA-PSK2

Good luck.

I am not fully up to this level yet.
I've gotten alot of offline suggistions (mostly about tangential
wiring my home AND selecting FI-TV). Fine. FI-TV is not my focus ATM.

I accept that I may get an RJ45 interface (ethernet) to a future ONT.
ATM, I have no idea WHAT comes out of this RJ45 interface.

IS it acceptable for me to question my 'pending future' ISP about
THIS, AND, things like:

(YES, all below is stuff from my Router set for xDSL! I understand
much of this may NOT apply in the FIOS future!)

That's a bummer IMHO since it limits your control & your ability to log what's
happening on your connection. This was what I faced with when I moved out here & took
over control of my girlfriends DSL connection. At least I was eventually able to get
a better deal from the small local cable co. for 3x the speed & I control everything
after the modem. Would NEVER have it any other way.

If it was me I'd be looking for a way to get their router to simply pass the live IP
to my routers WAN port. Even if their firewall is disabled the resulting packets are
useless for determining origin since you're double NAT'd.
