Re: [H] Printer heads dry out update
If you don't like screwing with cartridges, and don't care about color, then try a lightscribe burner. I have a R200 that I bought a year ago, and I am at the last 25 percent of the cartridges they give you. I don't print anything on it, but photo paper prints, or CD/DVDs, and I don't do one of those very often. I turn it off, and on only as needed, and I ordered one of those Epson head cleaner kits somebody posted just in case. However, I only paid fifty bucks for it, after CompUSA sale and rebates... and since I use it so little, and a set of print cartridges cost 75 bucks, which will probably dry out before I get a chance to use them up ( Epson says to replace them every six months) I don't mind getting a new on sale printer every year or so, rather then screwing around with refills! amen to that I am on my second set of cartridges and as of yet no dried out nozzles, too bad they can not be easily removed for cleaning. B$ this r200 I just did paper lables but the print on cd is pretty cool and looks better IMO fp At 01:49 PM 9/23/2006, Winterlight Poked the stick with: I don't mind getting a new on sale printer every year or so, rather then screwing around with refills! -- Tallyho ! ]:8) Taglines below ! -- Please return stewardess to original upright position.

B$ this r200 I just did paper lables but the print on cd is pretty cool and looks better IMO fp Oh yeah, it does, what it does really well! The only thing I don't like is that it is too much hassle to get the CD holder aligned correctly. I don't understand why they can't have this lock into place. Why should the user have to align it... all CD/DVDs are the same size. I am hoping they solve this before my cartridges run out so I get get a new one without this annoyance!
Re: [H] Printer heads dry out update
that is sometimes a PITA, usually ( but not always ) I just push it in till it stops ( arrows not alligned) and it goes on the first time. But not always. Watching for that next sale myself. Re: [H] Printer heads dry out update
Tried the windex on photo paper trick today but it did not help. I ended up calling tech support at Epson and they determined that the black print head was clogged and needed repair. This is the second time this has happenned with this CX4600 and it is only 1 1/2 yrs old. Of course it is out of warranty now but Epson would be glad to let me access their customer loyalty web page and order a new printer at a discount. Not gonna happen. I am looking at a Samsung laser printer for my father in law. Anyone ever use a low end samsung laser? The model is a Samsung ML-2010. $49.99 after rebate at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16828112035 or this Brother HL-2040: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16828113160 Any recommendations between these two? My father-in-law has a CX4600 all-in-one that gets sporadic use and more often than not is clogged when he wants to use it. He knows to turn off the printer with it's on/off switch when it is not being used, yet it still clogs. It stopped working last week and after running the cleaning cycle a couple of times without success, the cartridges were showing as empty. Put in all new carts and the black does not print at all. Run a cleaning again, and still no black, but color works. Carts are now showing about 1/8 depleted. Grrr! Going to try the Windex on the photo page tomorrow. If that does not work then may try ordering the Maxpatchink.com cleaning kit. He said to spray a piece of photo paper with Windex and print a multi colored image to clean the heads. It sounds like it has potential. If anyone tries it, please let us know how it worked out. al (who's glad to have anything to offer this elite group)

I have heard good things about that Samsung laser. Brother -- ugh. Never had good luck with anything except their fax machines. Too late, mine hit the garbage heap when I moved! :-( Less than 200 pages over 5 years and it was just eating ink each time I fired it up.
