RE: [Hasafran] Sammy Spider
Dear Safranim, Except for the haggadah, which we publish in paperback only to keep costs down as many families wish to buy multiple copies, all our Sammy Spider books do come out in both hardcover and paperback. However, once the hardcovers are sold out, we reprint paperbacks only as, other than librarians, the general public tends to want paperbacks of these popular titles. We do have hardcovers available for several of the newer Sammy Spider titles. Please check our website at www.karben.com to see which ones are available. Thank you for your interest. [ha-Safran]: RAS Digitization Committee
Hello. The Resarch Libraries, Archives and Special Collections Division of AJL has created a new committee -- the RAS Digitization Committee. The major goal of the committee is to gather and make available information about current and planned digitization projects in all areas of Judaica. The committee will also seek information about available funding. Another important goal is to facilitate and encourage cooperative projects and cooperative grant proposals. The initial meeting of the committee is scheduled for 4PM on Sunday June 22 at the Cleveland convention. All those interested in digitization issues are invited to attend. I will serve as temporary chair, until a permanent chair can be appointed (hopefully by the end of the convention). If you are interested in being a committee member or the chair, please contact me. I encourage those of you who wish to make suggestions about the membership, structure or goals of the committee to contact me. Jim Rosenbloom Vice-president, RAS James P. [ha-Safran]: Retirement
Dear Hevra: After twenty years of being the director of the Cultural and Learning Center here at Beth El, I have decided to retire in June. I wanted to let you all know, even though I will be attending AJL conventions in the near future, and remain one of the co-chairs of the 2009 AJL convention here in Chicago. Life has a way of evolving in interesting ways, and now that I have determined to retire, my daughter has become engaged to a wonderful man in Seattle. So much for actual retirement -- wedding planning beckons! There will be a job posting about the library position here as soon as the synagogue administration decides what the parameters of the job will be. I will let you know as soon as I know. I thank you all for your friendship and collegiality throughout the years. I hope to remain part of the group for many years to come, in an unofficial capacity. A very relevant article not only to the library profession but to the growing trend of anti-Semites using internet truthiness as a propaganda weapon against Israel. That's where this gets scary.
