[ha-Safran]: Need help with Hebrew Translation of this quote

2010-12-06 Thread Beth Grafman
Dear Colleagues,

We are trying to find the Hebrew version of a quote from Hai Gaon:

"Three possessions should you prize: a field, a friend and a book"

Your help is greatly appreciated. Feel free to forward, too.

[ha-Safran]: Rabbi and Cantor Book Recommendation

2009-12-21 Thread Beth Grafman
We have a Rabbi/Cantor couple coming in as guest readers for the
Chanukah season. They're a lively pair and I'm looking for the
perfect book for them to read to 3rd graders at Schechter. Any
suggestions? It doesn't have to be Chanukah necessarily. It could
be heroes, spirituality, community. Perhaps something that has an
element of connecting with Gd through song, or about using singing to
lift one's spirits. I'm open to anything!

Thanks for your suggestions!

[ha-Safran]: Library Standards and Benchmarks

2009-03-24 Thread Beth Grafman
Dear Colleagues,

We are a Jewish Day School and have begun the Herculean task of
setting official standards and benchmarks for all curricular areas
both general and Judaic. We are looking for examples of such
standards for the Library program. Do you have any codified library
curriculum standards and benchmarks that you could share with
us? Our focus is primarily the K-5 campus but we do go through grade 12.

Thank you in advance for your help.

[ha-Safran]: New Library Automation System

2008-10-24 Thread Beth Grafman
We are a K-5 Jewish Day School and are looking for a new computer
management system for our library. We currently use Mandarin but a
broken server has presented the opportunity to investigate purchasing
an entirely new system. Any suggestions on which ones to
evaluate? Which ones to not bother investigating? We would love to
have our Hebrew language books included in the automation as
well. What do you like/not like about your system?

Thanks so much for your help!

[ha-Safran]: Jewish Community Books

I'm looking to supplement the Second Grade classroom curriculum
studying the China, Italy, Mexico and Ghana with insights into the
Jewish communities in those countries. Any book recommendations?

[ha-Safran]: Library volunteers

2005-02-08 Thread Beth Grafman
Dear Experienced Friends,
For budgetary considerations, our school library will be shifting from two
full-time librarians to just one. The Administration proposes using parent
volunters to cover the clerical aspect of checking books in and out and,
depending on the level of capability, processing new acquisitions.

What advice and experience do you have that will help us implement this new
way of conducting business in the library? Do's and don'ts for the
Librarian, volunteers and administration would be so helpful.

Thank you in advance for sharing your expertise.

Sincerely,
Beth Grafman
