[ha-Safran]: Patron seeks androgynous artistic images of Jewish God

2011-11-13 Thread Patricia Fenton
Dear friends,

I need your help with this, please. Our patron is looking for images
of God in art - painting, sculpture, etc., which are either
androgynous or female. The patron isn't looking for goddess images,
but images of the Jewish/Christian/Muslim One God.

Thank you for your help, Pat

Looking to buy Tiv leshon hakodesh

Do you have any other ideas for our patron?

[ha-Safran]: Ostrow Library digital collection ribbon cutting May 6

2009-05-07 Thread Patricia Fenton
Dear Friends,

The Ostrow Library of American Jewish University is thrilled to
invite you all to join us at the ribbon cutting for our digital
collection of nearly 200 photographs. Our collection is part of the
Local History Digital Resources Program under the auspices of the
California Digital Library.

Our special guests will be the Rothschilds, the family of noted
Hollywood photographer Otto Rothschild, who graciously allowed us to
use pictures he took of the AJU campus over the years.

We would also like to acknowledge our library staff and student
volunteers, without whose help this project could not have been completed.

We hope that you will join us for the ribbon cutting and light
refreshments on Wednesday May 6th at 12:30 PM in the Library.

I look forward to seeing many of you at this wonderful event,
Pat

[ha-Safran]: Goldschmidt's Babylonian Talmud

2009-04-20 Thread Patricia Fenton
Friends,

I received a call today from Mr. Hillel Yaari, who would like to
donate a set of Lazarus Goldshmidt's German translation of the
Babylonian Talmud to a library which will pay for shipping and will
put bookplates in the set in honor of his mother. The set is missing
volume 8, and has two of volume 7. My sense is that if you can do
the bookplates, he may be flexible about the shipping.

As we are blessed with two sets of this work, Mr. Yaari gave me his
permission to post his offer to this list. His email is: dyrtp...@aol.com.

Best wishes, Pat

[ha-Safran]: English translation sought

2008-03-10 Thread Patricia Fenton
We are looking for an English translation of Alter Druyanov's 3
volume work, Sefer ha-bedihah veha-hidud. Does anyone know if such a
translation exists, and if so, where we might buy it?

Thank you, Pat

[ha-Safran]: next q: signed books

2007-11-11 Thread Patricia Fenton
Thank you all for your quick and helpful replies to my questions
about foxing and DVDs, and also to those of you who sent memories of
the library here.

My next question: What do you do with books signed by authors? For
example, we have a few books signed by Elie Wiesel, and we are
debating about whether to put them in our rare collection or to put
them out for circulation. We feel that they aren't really rare, as
he signs so many, but we are a bit uncomfortable about circulating them.

Thank you for your help, Pat

DVDs, foxing

2007-11-06 Thread Patricia Fenton
Before I ask my questions, I want to thank you all for the helpful
information found on Hasafran. Your messages make me look forward to
meeting you in person some day.

I have two questions I hope you can help me with:

- Is "foxing" contagious from one book to another? How do you deal
with books in this condition?

- DVDs in academic libraries: How long do you check them out? We
let ours out for 2 days, and some students are requesting that they
be allowed to keep them for 7 days - like Blockbuster.

Thank you, Pat
