Re: [HCP-Users] Having problems with installing aspera, upgrade chromium, download data for doing tutorials with workbench....
I don't want to keep this thread running forever, but another fantastic way to get access to the data is Amazon's aws command line interface https://aws.amazon.com/cli/ It's an official amazon product for windows, linux, and mac, and it allows you to automate any downloads from the server. For instance, if you only want to download the unprocessed MEG data, you can write a script using the aws-cli and regular expressions to find all subjects with MEG data, and then download them. That way you only grab the data you need, and you don't manually have to dig through all the folders. On Wed, Dec 16, 2015 at 3:49 PM, Timothy B. Re: [HCP-Users] Having problems with installing aspera, upgrade chromium, download data for doing tutorials with workbench....
Hi Rosalia, How to create a folder that is shared between the host and guest (VM) would depend on what tool you are using to run your VM in the first place. If you are using VMware (Player or Workstation) I would suggest you have a look at the document *VMware Workstation 5.0 Using Shared Folders *at https://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_running_shared_folders.html This is written for VMware Workstation 5.0, but it seems to be valid for VMware Player and later versions of VMware Workstation. If you are using Oracle VirtualBox, I would suggest you have a look at the document *VirtualBox Shared Folders *at http://virtuatopia.com/index.php/VirtualBox_Shared_Folders. If you are using some other program to run your VM, you'll need to check the documentation or do a web search for documentation that will guide you. Please reply to the HCP-Users list so that others who have the same question can also benefit. Re: [HCP-Users] Having problems with installing aspera, upgrade chromium, download data for doing tutorials with workbench....
Tim and Greg's suggestions are good ones (using Amazon S3 or Aspera via Windows). I believe the Aspera plugin for Linux is still the older NPAPI style plugin, which Chrome no longer supports. The Windows plugin is a PPAPI style plugin which is supported. You might have some success with Firefox, which will still run NPAPI plugins, however it's crashing on my vm when it tries to download. I usually do my downloads on Windows as well. When I navigate to the Aspera download site http://downloads.asperasoft.com/connect2/ via Chrome in Ubuntu, I'm told Aspera Connect is not supported by my version of Chrome. Firefox, on my vm, says Aspera is installed, and ConnectomeDB also shows it as installed, but it is crashing on download. With a .sh file, you don't use "apt-get install", it is a script that you run directly in a terminal: tim@timsdev:~/Downloads$ ./aspera-connect-3.6.0.106805-linux-64.sh Installing Aspera Connect Deploying Aspera Connect (/home/tim/.aspera/connect) for the current user only. Re: [HCP-Users] Having problems with installing aspera, upgrade chromium, download data for doing tutorials with workbench....
Hi Rosalia, I hope someone can help with the Aspera issue -- sounds hard! If you do need both workbench AND caret, then you should not need Aspera to download tutorial data for caret; those are typically zip files available directly on brainvis.wustl.edu or on sumsdb.wustl.edu. Which tutorial do you need for caret? The workbench tutorial data probably does require Aspera, however.
