It's nice to see Valve finally give some bot lovin' again like they did when the first SDK came out for the original Half-Life. Way to go Valve! You guys and gals truly are the best. :) I may have to get off my butt and get back to some bot coding for Source once again. -- Jeffrey "botman" Broome ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders
Re: [hlcoders] Bots & Server Plugins coming - woot
Seeing as there are already bots supported by TF2 you would think that achievement earning would already be somewhat protected by their presence. Very nice work though guys, although tbh, can't say that I've played a game with bots for quite some time. The IEntityInfo sounds quite nice though, vfunc hooking is generally what you would need to use to get access to that stuff (and is something I am trying to refrain from using for a current TF2 plugin I am working on). There's a column you can enable to show how many bots there are on a server, and they don't add to reported playercounts. A filter would certainly be nice though! Re: [hlcoders] Bots & Server Plugins coming - woot
This is one of my gripes. It would be easy to put in an IsBot() statement to prevent bots being used to get achievements. But that would be a valve side thing wouldn't it? -Original Message- From: Garry Newman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 25, 2008 4:49 AM To: Discussion of Half-Life Programming Subject: Re: [hlcoders] Bots & Server Plugins coming - woot Nice. Congrats Jeremy I know you've been waiting for this for a long time. You've done some great work in those videos. My concern is that I really love playing TF2 and I don't think there's a need for bots in that game. I hope it's pretty clear when you're playing with bots and easy to avoid (ie, in the server browser.) [hlcoders] Bots & Server Plugins coming - woot
So I've been working with Tony on exercising the new bot interface, and I must say it has me pretty excited. I wanted to shamelessly plug my TF2 bot in development at the same time as generally just updating others that at long last, the server plugin bot interface is getting the attention it has needed for oh so long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHHEetn64Vo To summarize, the new bot interface is going into the Orange Box engine, and so will be available for DOD:S, CS:S(when its updated to OB), TF2 of course, and whatever future Orange Box based mods/games pop up(hopefully HL2DM will be updated as well). If you are a fan of DOD:S or CS:S and want to help out at all, there is a discussion at Bots United you can check out to get more detailed info about this stuff. http://forums.bots-united.com/showthread.php?t=3629&page=8 - near the bottom Hopefully once Tony gets the interfaces and stuff solid it won't be too long of a process to go from his hands into a steam update near you. In order to get the interfaces solid for these several games I could use some help. I mention that help in the bots united thread linked above.
