Launch game, Preparing to launch, hl2.exe at task manager, dissappears, nothing. If you dont have any Orange Box games you will have trouble running a mod let alone running the SDK (at the moment anyhow). To run the OB code you need an OB engine, currently that is either HL2:EP2 hl2.exe or TF2 hl2.exe. and their respective AppID's. The dlls will crash on the older engine (ConCommand changes, etc).
