Its released with the SDK, see: http://www.valve-erc.com/srcsdk/Code/ServerPlugins.html The "hlds_apps" mailing list has been used as a discussion place for plugin developers, you should subscribe to it also. A quick general question. If you guys can release CS:S without any problems from Vivendi, is it possible for you guys to release the SDK and mod creating tools? Yeah, I see that they are good simulations, but I don't think someone would be dead in the position shown in the second picture in the real world. I don't want to blame Valve or Havok or anything; I just wanted to point out that there is always something to perfectionize.Well ok, except in Ricochet maybe. - Original Message - From: "Jeffrey "botman" Broome" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, October 14, 2004 7:34 PM Subject: Re: [hlcoders] Does HL2 have built-in metamod-like functionality? Re: [hlcoders] Does HL2 have built-in metamod-like functionality?
I agree, though the barrels in cs:source annoy me somewhat. on cs_havana I can't push them over without shooting 'em, which now that I think about it might be because they (possibly) have a larger weight then the dust ones... hrm. Still, I wouldn't envy the valve employees if they went through and tried to code a physics engine like Havok from scratch - that'd be a very tedious job :/ - Bruce "Bahamut" Andrews McCormack, Chris wrote: Havok is the physics engine, Valve used it and incorporated it in their game engine so what :P Why re-invent the VERY complicated wheel when there is one ready made to drop in which performs everything you need. Looks like Valve choice whas to USE phisics for innovative and enhanced gameplay AND toys. Even a weapon is a maximized phisic toy ( these nice tractor beam ). Doing this can be dificult and the result can be: - toy-esque that is not bad, but is a not good as posible. - good, with extra amazing and innovative gameplay - bad (broken) Also for some reason Source screenshots not looks like Quake4, Doom3, and all "doom3" alike games. Is use of 3d cards features is innovative and different from other posible styles. Anyway, others coders are not frezze and also code nice stuff, say S.T.A.L.K.E.R. looks like interesting, and even Unreal 2004 engine whas impresive. Re: [hlcoders] Does HL2 have built-in metamod-like functionality?
:D My faith on Valve is infinite. I feel will code another cool Half-Life alike experience, maybe beeter. I feel will use the phisics for good, and the eyecandy extra features for good. I feel gameplay will be better thanks to the gadgets Valve will code into the game. No like [add another common tittle here] that use eyecandy/braincandy for marketing purposes but gameplay suffer from it. Even Steam is ready for REAL use. RE: [hlcoders] Does HL2 have built-in metamod-like functionality?
Hello! It will be true (just as soon as I write it). Since it is not written yet, then may I make a small request? :) Our modification uses its own modular system and we routed metamod functionality to plugins directly from metamod (we didn't want to do SERVER_COMMAND("meta load ")). It will save us thousands of lines of code and hours of debugging with two functions like this: Meta_LoadPlugin() and Meta_UnloadPlugin().
