Great. Just wanted to make sure my MOD's folders won't be touched until I actively do something, like apply this path. Thanks for planning to provide the patch BTW. Regards, Thomas - Original Message From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: hlcoders@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Saturday, July 29, 2006 9:40:31 AM Subject: Re: [hlcoders] Upcoming SDK Release You'll need to merge the diffs from the old SDK in if you want those features. In the past, for every SDK update, I performed a recursive 'diff -u' on the previous version and the new version and posted a patch file for modders to be able to apply all the updates to an existing codebase easily. It's been ages since I've done so, since it's been ages since the last release. I'll post such a patch again when the new SDK is out, if Valve doesn't do so. See http://tinyurl.com/z9o7j for an example of what these patches look like and see http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Diff_And_Patch for options on applying them. -bk At 2006/07/29 11:19 AM, Thomas Vollmer wrote: >A n00b question: What happens to my MOD when Valve updates the SDK? Re: [hlcoders] Upcoming SDK Release
You'll need to merge the diffs from the old SDK in if you want those features.
A n00b question: What happens to my MOD when Valve updates the SDK? I know Steam automatically downloads updates, so I'm assuming this will be the case here. So, once Steam has done that, assuming there is a new bug in the new SDK, will my MOD have that bug or will it be left unchanged until I somehow merge the updates into my MOD? Hi All- Just an update on the SDK Release: We are having an issue with getting the new SDK to work as a beta alongside the shipping SDK. Congratulations on your new job, and may you tolerate us the best you can... I feel sorry for you joining on at these tumultuous times :) In other news, that's good to know that an SDK update is actually coming. Working on Forsaken without knowing what is coming in the next update has been a practice in crap shooting what Valve is most likely to change. Will you be able to provide a specific change log of the code in this new SDK update along with what issues they fix? It'll help us a lot when doing code integration with this new update. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mike Durand Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2006 9:13 PM To: hlcoders@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: [hlcoders] Upcoming SDK Release Given the recent traffic on the list, it seems like a good time to introduce myself to everyone here, and talk about what I do at Valve. I started work here in June and have been given the task of working directly with the MOD community.
